what i've learned from classic, is that things actually die, characters can get punished, you actually get to play the game as long as they don't have widow, that season 9 made me worse at the game and playing classic for a few days automatically made me better at the main game, that the game doesn't feel lonely anymore with 12 players in the match, 6v6 for the win
As clunky as it is, I've been having a lot of fun with it, definitely more than 5v5! what I've learned is that it's great when things you shoot at actually die. Effort and impact feel more proportional. A tank dying isn't the end of a fight. Much more individual player agency when you can meaningfully interact with 100% of a team compared to 80% in 5v5.
My husband watches your channel and it was randomly suggested on my for you page, so happy I found you! subscribed! Also, my name is abby and i love OW so that's how I remembered you!
Impact… BOTH teams can make impact and you can’t just turn your brain off… Less bail out, more team comp, less pressure on just one tank. TANKS ARE KILLABLE. You can literally have 4k damage and have over 20 kills easily and the fights STILL go strong. There’s a reason why tanks were less fun to play back then because when tanks first came out, most tanks were CLUNKY. When we play the actually 6v6 beta with 2-2-2 format, tanks will be A LOT more fun because we’ve gained more tanks that are fun PLUS older tanks have developed a lot more since then too!

I even didn’t know certain heroes had slower animations since I guess I’m so used to modern ow2. Feels too clunky but at the same time it was the same game I pre ordered and got me hooked to play with my cousin. What I do see is that I can kill tanks and everything easily without dealing with supports saving everyone. Oh how I love it but I hope we go through every other patch like nano beyblade or just Ana release with her crazy nano speed. Just so everyone sees what many old school ow players went through
I haven't actually played OW since 2017-2018. I think I quit a few months after brigitte came out. Playing classic felt just like it did, for the most part. I felt like people played differently because of years of knowing OW as a known quantity and OW2 did change how people approach it. But one thing that GLARINGLY stood out after going from OW classic to OW2 for the first time... and playing tank because I like junker queens design. In OW classic no matter what role I played, I felt like I was part of the team. I was a focus, yeah but even as a solo tank there were people everywhere to shoot. In OW2 as a tank I felt like I WAS the team. Everything focused on me, I had to wait for all their cooldowns to finish because they'd try to cancel every carnage. And it would take ages for me to die too. Not as much as barriers holding a choke point sure, but me and the other tank would just soak up so much damage that I very quickly realized it's just not worth engaging in shooting the damn tank. Ignoring the major threat in front of me wasn't fun. I didn't not have fun, and I'm sure I had some bias because I never liked the concept of 5v5 despite not playing OW for years at that point. But after a few hours I put the game down and will come back when 6v6 playtests come out. OW2 is a big improvement, but the format is not for me long term.
I think your read on Widow is off. Yes the actual time to bring up the scope is slower, but once scoped, the shot charges incredibly fast. Not only that, but with lower health pools of 200, no tank passives for headshot reduction, AND better scaling on charge/damage (remember a full body shot is 150) Widow is anything but clunky. She can take more shots and pump more damage than OW2 Widow. And with less healing to go around, that damage is much more permanent.
I love this OW Classic mode! breath of fresh air especially for dps players,,, you know why? BECAUSE NOW I FEEL I HAVE AN IMPACT IN THE GAME AND NOT SHOOTING 03882367 SHOTS AND HAVE 3048348 DMG BUT ONLY 1, 1 ELIM!!!!!
Facts, the much higher TTK can make the game feel exhausting to play at times. Even for every role in the game not just DPS. It feels like a battle of attrition nowadays rather than fast paced tactical plays and being rewarded for smart positioning / flanking. Nothing dies I hate it. They need to bring back 20% healing reduction for DPS
I think, in the Spilo interview, they said this event is just day 1 patch with and without hero limits. They can do Moth meta and other patches in future OW Classic events if people like this one. I learned that I was wrong about super tanks. I actually suggested in the forums that tanks should feel tankier to make the role more popular in OW1. I'm not sure if that factored into the 5v5 balance, but 6v6 tanks feel better to play. When everyone can die in 1v1s, including the tank, making smart plays feels much more satisfying. The same applies to reducing the AoE healing. When you misplay, you should die for it and learn to do better mid-match. OW2 is harder to learn because mistakes are hidden behind so many second-chance escapes and over stat'ed tanks. It makes you feel more helpless despite all the power creep. There's no clear win strategy because the winning enemy has access to the same bailouts to cover their mistakes.
I think, the obvious things ow2 does better is the feel and smoothness of characters kits, and the upside is that classic feels so much more relaxed and its partly due to 6v6 and partly due to the sluggish kits compared to ow2, showing how harsh the speed creep has gotten, which is mostly good but at a certain point it dimishes the fun in my opinion when the game gets too fast. Them going through each major meta is a very good idea if they pursue a true 6v6 test because we get to have a fresh set of eyes (new players) as well as vets to see what went wrong for each patch and give feedback on how it could be avoided for the 6v6 ow2 test. Its like a chance on using that "hindsight is always 20/20" and get rid of the "rose tinted glasses".
I prefer the clunkiness and less mobility strangely enough, even though I'm masters in the DPS role, I love how weaknesses and strengths are much more pronounced and easy to exploit. Like rein not being able to cancel charge, hog having to stand still to heal etc. Tracer and Genji also feel much more unique as mobility heroes compared to the other characters. It feels like there's more skill expression due to the faster TTK and less room for error or you're dead. Though not everything is better and some characters are very weak compared to others, I actually prefer it to OW2 in this respect
@YoWasupImADude-xv6hi same, except for some things like i think the rein charge def needs the better turn speed, mercy benefits so much from the super jump since its more accessable for the average player even if it has less range of motion than the bug version. Also YOU CAN ACTUALLY KILL THINGS ESPECIALLY TANKS.
I've learned that in classic 5v5 vs 6v6 is trading control for chaos in 5v5 i have more control over the output on of a match on any role based on who i play. But 6v6 if you dont get the right comp things are un winnable it just appears more winnable becuase things die more often. 6v6 is also less stressful and you can afford to make misplays. 6v6 is chaotic fun where as 5v5 is controlled stress. I think 5v5 is the better mode for a competitive player like myself. I also think everyones tune is gonna change on the 6v6 test when every game is a doom hog mirror match up.
I've learned that even though 1.0 kinda smells bad, it was actually enjoyable for a week of playing & witnessing heroes actually perish without exhausting every ability.
It's crazy they are skipping past Anna's speed boosted Nano version. 🤔 I don't even play Genji but I was thinking something they could do ontop of buffing the shurkins is give him a speed boost while he uses his ult. That would make him like he was in the first version of Anna meta 🤷
I learned that ledge dash should’ve stayed in the game (and from a balanced perspective it’s super high risk cuz you kinda just get sent somewhere in their backline lol and it uses your dash cooldown. So it wouldn’t be something that’s optimal to do except for a few scenarios like getting out of spawn and flying at a widow, and even then the risk is wasting your dash cooldown if you mess it up)
I like the idea you mentioned for bastion having 2 options to choose from for the ultimate, i think that would be awesome for all the characters actually. it doesn't have to be anything too complex like a talent or skill tree, but rather 2 different options for abilities and ultimate's. I don't think it would make the game too complex than it already is, they can show what your team mates picked in the scoreboard too to help decide what works best or what type of playstyle they are going for. Example like Ana can choose either anti-nade or maybe a grapple hook like widow or a dodge roll like cass. Or a different ultimate for genji could be cool, instead of the regular blade, they can add a different variant of blade like they showed in one of the old trailers at some point where he was swinging and sending down projectiles i think they called it Dragon's breathe, take some of those ow2 PVE talents they were cooking and add them into the pvp as alternate options. they can also do that for sym, torb, sombra, bring some of their reworked abilities and have them as options for different playstyles. i think that would really be cool and interesting to have in the game.
Also recently, there was a dev who talked about the time before Jeff left, and Jeff was kinda the reason stuff went so bad. He kept pushing the team for things they couldn't do, deadlines that made no sense, etc. I love how he worked on OW1 at the beginning but he definitely went full Icarus and caused the issues I used to assume happened when he left.
The first thing classic Overwatch taught me was that if you have a character that relies on healing, they need to be able to walk! Man, I shudder to think about how this version of Hoga could play against Mauga. When you look at Lucio and other characters you realize that some changes have benefited the characters and their modern versions are better. As for the limit on the number of identical heroes, I’m not against both options, I like chaos but I don’t mind giving it up for the sake of other players, I understand that not everyone likes 6 dps. I would like to note that it was nice not to have to deal with Ana, Mauga, etc. And yes, the widow is annoying even in this mode, I think all meta characters will be annoying until there is a ban system. Although I think they better pay attention to matchmaking if they don’t want to lose their player base.
I only played so many games of 1.0 just to do the challenges, it was fun for the first few games but playing against a billion widows was really insufferable
As a Mercy main i forgot how weak old mercy was. I guardian Angel was super weak back in the day. Not being able to super jump or bunny hop with GA made Mercy feel so sluggish to play and very easy to get yourself killed. It was nice being able to mass rez again.
What I learned from the 1.0 patch is genji is ACTUALLY GOOD. Shuriken dmg is 28 or 29, health pools isnt blown out of proportion, and his blade isn't a wet noodle.
I saw a KarQ video and he said Widow is kept on 2.5x crit multiplier by mistake and it should be 2.0 while having 150 dmg. Also I heard that these 3 weeks will just be launch Overwatch and later it will change weekly
Didn't Keller said 5v5 is to stay regardless, I believe in interview with Spilo. Than I feel like, if that's death set, what are we doing? Besides that, there is already so much data for them on 2-2-2, so are we trying 3-1-2(not sure this is the right order but you know what I mean) for the sake of doing everything but give in to 2-2-2 or what? Classic is anything but balanced but seeing you can kill stuff and be killed easier it still makes it feel more breathable and more Overwatch-y to me. What's your initial take on the coming tests regarding the format(s)?
This guess is gonna be a bit of a big stretch for one of the potential reasons of why 1 min max 3 was first then 2 2 2. The marvel rivals release might have been a factor. I might be wrong but the season 14 release is gonna happen a couple days or a week after marvel rivals releases.
they arent doing all of those patches like moth meta in this event, idk why they even mentioned it because they meant if this event comes back then it will be those metas
Like i said before their slightly sabotaging this classic game mode and their going to do the same with the 6v6 test so that ppl won't ask for it because they don't want their 5v5 to be known as a bad format
I was very happy with them bringing back the classic. I do missed playing those eras. I didn't have problems with bug and clunky because it was just how it used to be back then. I'm glad they didn't fix any bug or clunky, or it won't feel it's the og. I played a lot of Mercy, Sym, Dva, Zarya, Bastion, Lucio, Winston, and the rest I play from time to time. I agreed with the Bastion, I got 4k and 5K a lot more common than his current ultimate. Also, I don't really think Massive Rez is that op because everything still dies very quickly, especially a freaking tanks, so I'm glad things can die. I want 222 roles, not 5v5, because I don't like 1 tank and counterswap. I'm just tired of it and feel way too much pressure. Even worse when you only have one tank that can go afk or throw, then you have no tank. If 2 tanks, you still have a better chance if the other tank isn't doing anything or leaves the match. Anyway, about 5v5, no one's dying like Mauga stand off or something like that. You get a lot of damage but very low elims compared to old Ow1 where you get a few thousand damage and a lots of elims. I honestly think they should just go back because it really feels so good. 5v5 formation feels ass and unhealthy. Another thing I prefer 222 roles is have synergies. Those moments feel so good, I hope you agree with that. I forgot what else to say, but yeah, this takes me back, and I'm having a blast!
What I also realize playing the overwatch classic and then seeing other comments in other youtubers comment section is that many people after playing overwatch classic say that they hate 5v5 even more only because they played the overwatch classic, do you think this is a fair assessment?
Absolutely yes because most of the things that make this game as unfun as it is right now, are caused by the 5v5 format, tanks and most other heroes taking forever to kill? 5v5 issue, widowmaker being dominant? also a 5v5 issue, supports being powercrept into oblivion? also a result of 5v5, yes supports were always considered broken, but in comparison to todays supports? they were actually balanced pretty damn well, the only issue really was brig and bap, the game feels much more alive and playable than current day overwatch
I don`t think people really get that original overwatch had 2 enabler supports who had healing but not really _protective_ healing, 1 single healer and 1 info/builder support (with a slower and more powerful version of it in the defense category). EVERY SINGLE SUPPORT CHARACTER RELEASED SINCE THEN HAS BEEN A HEALER AND PRIMARILY A HEALER. The stupid ult inversion where they made supports have enabling ultimates as power plays and brought defensive reactive sustain into long ass cooldows has been the absolute worst and I hate playing both as and against every single one of those characters.
I LOVE OW CLASSIC, you can punish people for mistakes and they don't get bailed out by broken supports, there's actual tank exchange, and it doesn't take a million damage to get an elim. Would rather play this unbalanced mess that actually allows me to do things than play 5v5 role lock. It has it's problems (Widow and no limits) but it doesn't feel nearly as bad as the issues 5v5 role lock has.
This patch was fun for a few days and im already getting bored of no limits, 5 widows, 6 winstons. I think its a mistake to stay on day 1 OW for an entire 3 weeks. More support players would play it if ana was here and a better feeling version of lucio
Watch GreedEU video....The devs are purposely trying to sabotage 6v6....they have 0 intention of making it a thing. They're trying to use it as a gotcha moment like "See told you it was bad".🤬 If there's no 6v6 the game is finished.
What did you learn from OW classic that can be kept to better OW2? Be it for 5v5 or 6v6?
Sym long range attack is hilarious
That support is the role who actually ruined the game, and the game feels better when character like brig, moira or kiri dont exist
keep the 6v6
I will never complain about mercy rezing one enemy after seeing a 5man rez.

I learned that we took all of this for granted and jeff too and we lost it all
Jeff is the one who wanted to move away from this, mind you..
Learnt Genji classic better than whole ow2 existence even with the clunky dash
I saw a KarQ video and he said Widow is kept on 2.5x crit multiplier by mistake and it should be 2.0 while having 150 dmg. Also I heard that these 3 weeks will just be launch Overwatch and later it will change weekly
So is classic mode going to be permanent?
Didn't Keller said 5v5 is to stay regardless, I believe in interview with Spilo. Than I feel like, if that's death set, what are we doing? Besides that, there is already so much data for them on 2-2-2, so are we trying 3-1-2(not sure this is the right order but you know what I mean) for the sake of doing everything but give in to 2-2-2 or what? Classic is anything but balanced but seeing you can kill stuff and be killed easier it still makes it feel more breathable and more Overwatch-y to me. What's your initial take on the coming tests regarding the format(s)?
Yeah he did say that 5v5 will not be removed
Make overwatch fans happy for more than one day: Challenge Impossible
Haven’t played since Wifeleaver was added. Reinstalled for Classic. I’m totally addicted again. Haven’t even looked at 5v5, but I’ll give 6v6 a shot.
Its because negativity is louder than being content or even happy, so clearly people are enjoying it but the people who dont will complain about it.
I learned that I want everyone to call Mcree by his name. Cassidy is not what I will ever call him.
the demand is actually all me im demanding it so much it looks like the rest of the playerbase wants it (real)
I learned that (most) dps is ridiculously OP in classic
I LOVE OW CLASSIC, you can punish people for mistakes and they don't get bailed out by broken supports, there's actual tank exchange, and it doesn't take a million damage to get an elim. Would rather play this unbalanced mess that actually allows me to do things than play 5v5 role lock. It has it's problems (Widow and no limits) but it doesn't feel nearly as bad as the issues 5v5 role lock has.
it’s ruined by widowmaker. Istg every game there is at least 1 widow who can body shot 150 hp soooo cringe
Wait are you saying current torb needs nerfs?
Is it just me or has audio been a little low recently
This patch was fun for a few days and im already getting bored of no limits, 5 widows, 6 winstons. I think its a mistake to stay on day 1 OW for an entire 3 weeks. More support players would play it if ana was here and a better feeling version of lucio
only the widow mains wanted no limits...
Ow classic is amazing and the only thing I have learned is that the health regen passive was the best thing the OW2 team did.
Tbf the health regen made me play carefree and when I realized that the health regen wasn't in the classic mod it made me play more carefully
ow forum is wildly out of touch with the general playerbase
i’m just waiting for doomfist. that’s all i care about just gimme old doomfist.
I learned the game is funnier when things actually die
Classic is infinitely better than current ow version
Watch GreedEU video....The devs are purposely trying to sabotage 6v6....they have 0 intention of making it a thing.
They're trying to use it as a gotcha moment like "See told you it was bad".🤬
If there's no 6v6 the game is finished.
I learnt that ow 2 was a massive waste of time and ow was just better even in a state like launch
What I learned is that widow is easy as shit to play
Bro I feel patch 1.0 is moth meta as well
No moth meta happened very much later on, by season 6-8 of OW1, after ana's beyblade meta and the initial season 3 multitank meta
Widow is op
Ngl, OW classic has felt so terrible I truly don't understand the hype
It was broken
