I found out that the freesync range of this monitor starts at 60hz so for me it's useless, I was supremely interested until that.. Just a heads up for anyone else if that matters to them, and if they also play retro games on their monitor where VRR is a game changer especially if the screen refresh rate can go down to 40 hz or so. Also really with most people having a 3070, you're going to be under 60 FPS at 1440P with ultra settings in some games, so again, you won't have freesync there. A real shame as this ticks every box for me otherwise but I don't have the space to add another monitor just dedicated to retro LOL.. I'd rather just spend on a proper g-sync monitor in that case, but I am trying to save money.
That's a good looking monitor. Also thank you for explaining what the 1000R meant. I've seen it advertised a bit and never looked into it. I have the flat version of this monitor 1440/165hz and was thinking of upgrading! Good video as always!
Thanks for the review. Agreed, I think 27" 1440p gives you a good size and resolution for gaming. This HP looks like a solid contender if you can grab it on special.
The fact that my local non "Craigslist" is has 5 acer nitro 5(the 3060/70 models) at about 1k€ should tell people how important the screen is. Man did they put a terrible one in those. I'm sure you could upgrade it but how many people are ever aware you can do that?
Its because of that motion setting, where HP inserts black bars between the frames to reduce ghosting. You cannot see them with the naked eye. I would leave that setting off, its not needed.
Awesome review thanks now I have a question : what do you recommend when it comes to gaming if you have a stacked screen desk mount, would you want the gaming screen on the top or bottom. Maybe you could do a review on this.
Thanks! I would imagine it would be best at the bottom so you don't get tired looking up. In my studio I have a similar set up when I'm streaming and its quite tiring looking up for long periods.
Hey Stephen, sorry this isn't related to the monitor, but is an Aorus 15 with a 130W RTX 3070, i7 12700h, 16 GB DDR4, 144hz 1080p for $1275 a pretty good deal? I'm thinking of grabbing an open box new one from Best Buy... I saw you reviewed the 17 in one. I hate there's no MUX but I feel for $1275, it will still perform well. Most 3060s with the i7 12700h seem to start at $1500 and most 3070s with that CPU are like $1800-$2200..
For 335€ is this a good deal? I would like to pair with my 4070 ti, since i only have a 1080p 144hz monitor. I tried to get a 1440p IPS, but i would also like to step up on HZ. For the price do you think it is a good deal, or would you recommend other options. Just trying to not kill my budget xD
So I’ve been debating on getting this or the AOC 27 inch curved 165hz, but heard both had pretty bad ghosting issues. Does every 1440p monitor having ghosting issues or which would you recommend
This has inverse ghosting when the overdrive is high, so best not use that. I can't say I notice it in game but I do in the test ufo ghosting test. I was able to overclock it to 270Hz. I test lots of laptops with 240hz 1440p and they are fine. I think its the overdrive is the culprit

Thanks for the input Teddy!
Freesync and gsync for idiots. Absolutely useless shit.

I agree Etienne, I think at $430 which it is at today that's a good price. Cheers!

5:00 why do those black bars happen on the camera?

Hi Stephen!! You did a solid job reviewing every aspect of this monitor, nice work!
Next time, invite me to that Battlefront 2 session 😂
Very good review, every year that technology continues to advance and the question is, will there be a limit? Greetings
Hey Luis! Thanks for stopping by. Yes, its amazing how fast technology advances. Doesn't seem 5 minutes ago when I was playing on a CRT monitor...

Hey Jonathan! Yeah, that is a great deal. Prices are up everywhere right now and I don't see things getting cheaper...

Yeah, I think at that price it is good. I overclocked mine to 270 Hz. Just don't use too much overdrive otherwise you get lots of inverse ghosting.

@@OWNORDISOWN ooooh ok thank you, so dont Run overdrive?

@@OWNORDISOWN but in the OSD settings i dont see anything for overdrive

Hey Steve !
Gold middle, between quality and price.
