I like zhang, first noticed him during the rome tourney, seems to be an attack minded, aggressive player whos good on both fore and backhand plus very strong and fast. I still think there's something missing from his game though, but can't really say what it is , I'm not an expert at all. Maybe it's consistency, especially with dropshots. sometimes he hits those really well, other times he completely bottles them in a way the likes of alcaraz wouldn't, at least that's what I noticed watching highlights
Medvedev is just not built for playing on natural surfaces like clay and grass. His style cannot allow stability from over-slipping on the surfaces whilst making stop-start movements with his "octopus" like coverage of the court, and plus not reacting well to bad/uneven bounces due to his long takeback preparation on his shots. It's just a disaster and I bet he's wishing we're back on hardcourts again soon. Hardcourts are unilaterally smooth with some grip which gives him more time to defend well without slipping over and execute his game properly.
We no longer travel in horse-drawn carriages, and we no longer play tennis with wooden rackets, but strangely enough some tennis tournaments are still held on clay and grass, which are surfaces from the 19th century. Personally I never play on something else than modern, synthetic surfaces appropriate for the game.
Give him the benefit of the doubt; he barely ever does this anymore and he’s much more mature. Complaints for rublev I understand but for Daniil its very rare to see him like this. Plus he’s going through what’s probably a really difficult shoulder injury as well; must be infuriating for him because he knows that if he was healthy he would absolutely delete Zhang
Boohoo... snowflake time! It's his racquet, he can use it as he pleases.Daniil was frustrated with himself, the racquet had to suffer. By the time he got to the net, he had calmed down and treated his opponent with respect.
I believe he's trying to change his playstyle to suit his height better. He said in RG in a post match interview that he was always taught to play the "spanish way" running after everyball but he was a 2m tall fella who can serve 230 km/h. Maybe he's trying to accentuate more on power and precision, playing flatter shots makes you better on grass I guess.
