Motherboards don't always have enough headers to allow you to connect all the fans that are in modern PC cases, so what can you do?
Fan splitters or hubs are a great way to add more fans and control them from a single motherboard header.
A simple twin port split will allow two fans to be connected to a single fan header on the motherboard. These are a great way to connect AIO or radiator fans and have them in sync with each other as the rpm or pwm signal will be the same on both fans.
A similar option is the four port version of this allowing up to four fans to be controlled from a single header or motherboard output, although be careful with powerful fans as you don't want to overload the motherboard fan header.
The best option for larger numbers of fans is a fan hub such as the arctic 10 port fan hub. this uses the PWM or RPM signal from a motherboard fan header but powers the fan or fans from a SATA style power connector, so make sure you have a SATA power connector spare in you PC.
These are frequently asked questions in the Discord chat and also on the videos we produce so don't be surprised if an expert or moderator from any of our social medias point you in this direction.

This video is great! Thank you! Did my first build last night and realized I only had one fan header after buying a 3 pack of fans 😅
Glad it helped!
What is the solution?

Hey Mike, so i recently bought myself 5 new precious case fans, and even rubber-pins, all the works. Now i discovered that my new mobo is severely understaffed and watched your video in return. I have to say, never seen such a compact, and well explained topic on just the things someone wants when looking up the topic. You did a great job, i left you a follow.👍
That is awesome! And welcome to the Channel :-)
Thank you so much. My B450 Aorus M only has 2 fan slots and most PC gamers are definitely gonna want more than 2 fans in their build.
Hope it helped :-)
Finally, straight on point clear explanation.
Thank you.
Don'tDoDrugsButCrackIsOk Thanks for the feedback! Please consider sharing the video and information on your social media, it really helps to get the message out there.
Very timely, Mike. Thanks so much for this. That's even the exact fan hub I bought. Just waiting for my mobo. That's the last part to come in, hopefully this week. This'll be my first build. Can't wait!
Glad I could help! If you need any advise or help feel free to join our discord: discord.gg/gaeeDPw
What a great idea, Mike! Your Discord Experts and Moderators thank you! :)
And we thank you for all the hard work and effort to help others
Your videos are straight to the point and easy to digest. You've helped me considerably, thank you!
thanks taylor appreciate it
While searching this topic for a PC upgrade, all the videos were about fan geometry abd position. You are the one talking about the less obvious thing that is how to manage power and speed control in a perfect format. Thanks !
Cool, thanks! hope you figure out what you need and get good results
yoooo this is exactly what i needed man. i purchased a prebuilt with 6 fans, 3 of them werent running even though their rgb was running, and this was the fix. i'll be using the arctic solution, thanks.
Glad it helped you! Thanks for watching
So which way did you do, splitter or hub?
Just what I was looking for. Thank you!!
You are welcome!
Great video! Often times, not-so-experienced system builders compare motherboards' capabilities and their price points, but something like fan headers can be overlooked! And then, you're stuck with a motherboard that meets your needs but has only one case fan header. So this video helps out! Good advice here.
Glad it helped :-)
Finally a good video about fan headers, thank you so much!
Glad to help!
Amazing! Thanks for this! No nonsense, 3 cool and different solutions to the dilemma.
CHEERS!

Great guide.
You explain and show everything clearly.

This is such a great video, Mike! Thanks once agian for the help. I changed my chassis yesterday and thought everything was gonma be fine only to find out that my previous case fans were powered differently (connects to a molex, hope I got that right lol)
Glad it helped!
Nice simple video straight to the point, Great video Mike.
Personal preference is a external hub block that has its own power.
yep space permitting that is a good choice
Last item is exactly what I've been looking for, thank you very much!
Glad I could help!
Did it work
Very informative! Straight on point and clear Explanation! Thank you my good sir! I will subscribe and follow you for more future contents.

Thank you Mike! A short and practical video. Due to high costs and incompatibility with my MOBO I had to buy a couple 3-pin fan splitters for my TT fans (I was thinking of Arctic F12 PWM but... surprise! it was 4-pin, a shame). It was about 2 years ago. I'm having in mind that HUB and some Arctic P12 PWM PST Value Pack (great CFM).
i need a case that can use 10 fans now to test out the arctic hub :-)
@@mikesunboxing a Cooler master wouldn't be bad idea, I mean.
@@mikesunboxing talius cronos fits a maximum of 10 fans :D 3 top 3 front 3 bottom 1 back

Thank you for the hub thing. I was so baffled by wanting to have 4pin fans everywhere, but cable splitters were not the right way to go. Bought two hubs as I have a 360mm and a 240 radiators in push/pull and needed a controllable 10 fan config. THANKS!
Glad it helped :-)
That fan hub is what i was looking for. Ordered it. Thnx and subscribed.

Sound stupid but i didn't realise the hub that came with my new cooler could take more fans. Probably not how you were expecting to help anyone but this was SUPER helpful for me
Best vid ever thanks

You rock dude
Thanks very much! Hope it helped you :-)
Just got myself four 20cm TT pure fans. This was helpful, I've never bothered much with making a pc pretty before. 👌
Lol, just looked up my motherboards specs... 7x fan headers and 2x rgb headers. 🤣
Glad I could help!
thanks for the vid. i was looking for a solution to this problem with my motherboard and wanted a solution but not a sketchy one. the arctic case fan hub is a great solution for the problem as it draws power from the PSU and doesnt strain the motherboard.
Glad I could help
i love this vid good details

@@mikesunboxing just bought one too so i can add more fans
Thank you
You're welcome
Excellent. I just bought one. My motherboard has PWM supposedly at all fan headers, but I'm still concerned about power load on the mobo and also I like how you can program all of these fans, whereas the powerhub included would only be able to program 1 fan.
the fans will all share the PWM signal so really they need to all be the same spec, and don't worry about the current draw that is what the SATA power is for
Good one Mike 👍😊 I always say if there's a problem then gotta be a solution 😊 I find my tool box always has a good selection of cable adaptors. I like the cable unit you've illustrated here re having some bios control {PWM 4 pin fans) GAMEMASTER cases with ARGB have built in controllers that can manage easily up to 8 fans from that control board as it has SATA power direct to it. I always have at least 3 fans in the case that are PWM bios controlled and the others free flowing. My temp figures are always really good so must be doing something right 😎 Oh and one build I had a card reader setup with separate usb and guess what! Oh yes not enough USB headers ! problem solved online with 1 to 3 USB adaptor. Stay safe ! As the Bee Gees remind us all 'staying alive, staying alive ..I can hear my mrs 'ooo ooo ooo ' 🤣🤣🤣 Ah those were the good ole disco days..🤣🤣😎
lol arthur you seem to be in fine form today - keep it up
Holy omg this helped so much :) I had 3 fans only 2 headers lol your the best thx, later
No problem 👍
Thanks Mike, You are a genius! Making this clearer, one more question
On a 6 fan hub like artic or deepcool, I could add the 3 way splitter to two of the slots of the hub potentially giving me 10 fans, would that be to much powered Sata draw for the hub to handle?
Yes you can! and it should be okay for the SATA
Thanks
Welcome 😀
thanks mate
You're welcome!
I'm going to install some fans for better airflow in my system, and only had 3 headers, while I want to install 4 fans. Not to say the headers are placed weirdly. I bought a fan hub, and hopefully this will keep my system neat!
yes all the wiring can be routed to a less cluttered area
Loved the video.....was actually hoping to see if you could educate us on how to install fans into the motherboard headers....where do I plug an aio cable( cpu header/ cpu optional)....some aio coolers come with multiple cables....which ones do I need to use
This is maybe easier to fix or at least advise if we can ask more questions and get direct answers, so feel free to join our Discord chat and we can go over it in more detail discord.gg/gaeeDPw
Hi Mike,
great video! One question, would you go with the "case fan hub" to avoid putting too much strain onto the motherboard? In my case I have 4 fan connections onboard and I need just two 2 more. That's not much, but I just want to take as much weight off the board possible. Thanks alot. Love your channel!
Yes, absolutely that is the way to go
thanks buddy
You're welcome :-)
Great, straight forward video, but i have a real quick question. Ill be doing my first pc build soon, and is the sata cable included with the PSU? If so do i literally just plug it into the hub? Thanks
Yes it is included with the psu
tell me if im wrong: the motherboard will take all the fans connected on the power supply of artic as if it was one fan right? I mean that if you want to raise the speed of one fan all the fans that are connected there will raise their speed as well right?
yes the box is a repeater so it takes a single signal from the motherboard header and sends that same signal to all the 10 ports regardless of what is plugged in to them
Would you mount the 10 fan connection somewhere on the case or have it stored under everything with the power supplies? Looking to build my first pc and NEED all the help I can get please.
depends on the case and cable lengths, but anywhere you can really
Hi , that fan cheap fan hub mentioned at 1:51 would it allow me to control fan speeds on my motherboard.
no it won't it just replicates what the motherboard signal is outputting
i have question. I am planning on doing the last method and buying the artic hub.But i will be using nzxt rgb fans so can i just normally connect them on the rgb controller?
yes use the nzxt hub for lighting
Thanks for the informative video. I wonder if I use one of those splitters on the CPU Fan header (main one), will the cpu still be able to control fan speed to avoid overheating.
Yes it will
@Mike's unboxing, reviews and how to I truly appreciate your help. Thanks
hi Mike thank you very much for your videos! I have a question , if I use a 4pin fan splitter connected to the motherboard 4pin sistem fan header then connect two 3 pin fans to the splitter cable what happens? will I still have some control over the fan rpm on the motherboard bios or not? will they run at full speed all the time or can I get a fixed RPM for the fans on the bios?
Thanks in advance from the UK also ;)
if you tell the motherboard that the connected devices are 3 pin or VDC rather than PWM that should work as intended
Hello I'm late I know.. does using a pen hub have any pros or cons over using a 1 to 2 own splitter?? I need to add 2 case fans and can't decide on just using the splitter or going ahead and using a hub..tia
hubs really are best for three or more fans, a splitter is fine for 2
Hi, I have an a320 motherboard which has just the 1 system fan header, if i use the arctic hub will i be able to use rgb fans and if so is any extra wires needed for the rgb
no you won't be able to use rgb fans you need something like the gamemax hub i reviewed a while back
