Fun Fact: Despite Pokémon only saying their name in the anime, Pikachu exclusively says "Pika Pi" when specifically referring to Ash.

Watching the pokemon movies is an experience. Most of the ones from gen 1-4 are widely cherished. Its also nice seeing someone react to pokemon in general, feels like people stray away from it compared to other animes
Pikachu crying is one of the most emotional moments of cinematography, gets me every god damn time xD I recommend you to watch "Lucario and the mystery of Mew" as its probably my favourite of all the other movies and since you love Mew I am sure you would love it too :D

Yes that was Gary. That was from the scene where Gary lost his first gym battle and Ash step in but instead of that mob boss guy, it was Team Rocket.

Context on the whole tears bringing ash back to life thing:
So when this movie was being dubbed in English they cut a whole part of mewtwos's backstory. It's pretty much the same as the movie u just watched except mewtwo meets a girl name amber. she explains how pokemon's tears bring people back to life. Pretty out there explanation but i gues it works

Such a good film, the emotions, the nostalgia
I love how Mewtwo get inspired by HR Giger for the new design of the island’s building.
This movie used to be even darker but got cut. The scientist who created Mewtwo was acutally trying to clone his dead daughter, if I remember correctly. (one of the writers actually lost his daughter)
This film is unironically better than it had any right to be. The soundtrack is absolutely _unbelievable_ and there's a great story and lesson here.
You know theres a whole bit cut from the start of this movie, that features mewtwo as a young clone, in a shared dream with a young girl, and the clones of charmander, bulbasaur and squirtle
The same cloned pokemon we see later in the movie with the weird spots
Jesse and james having a good disguise that not even don realised it was at first
When I was around 3 years old I got the VHS tape for this movie.
It was the only tape I had for years, I must have seen the movie over 100 times

I saw this movie in theaters and it was a moment from my childhood I will never forget. It was for a friend’s birthday and then we all went to BK and got the toys (I got the Nidoking keychain).
As for what Pokémon I would have from Gen 1. Bulbasaur is my favorite starter, both powerful and viable. For my other favorites; Jolteon, Poliwrath, and Snorlax. Too many to name but those are a few of my favorites. Gen 1 Jolteon was the most busted Electric Type after Zapdos in Red Version.

The part of the movie that explains why the tears saved ash got cut in the English release of the movie because the English producers didn’t want kids to sympathize with the villain . In the Japanese one I believe, they have a backstory as to why tears were super important in this

It has nothing to do with the English producers. The cinema's didn't want to show the beghining.
Also instead of Mew being a hero, it was just a turbo racist that basically said the clones had 0 rights to life.
It's available in English too, it was put back in with releases of the special "Mewtwo Returns" DVD.
It's called, "The Uncut Story of Mewtwo's Origin" and most of the time it's added to all the versions of the original movie you see online. People definitely need to watch it.
8 months late lol but to your point at 9:45, Team Rocket actually did successfully steal other Pokémon off screen. I remember an episode where at the very beginning they crashed a semi truck filled with Pokémon they’d stolen. For some reason they’re looked at as losers but they seemingly pull off some successful heists.

The Minnesota thing was a reference to the sports team, the Minnesota Vikings. It took me ages to get that one too.
This movie has a prequel and sequel. The former is a short called The birth of Mewtwo. The latter is a special episode called Mewtwo returns. They are pretty good.
''Pika-Pi'' is how Pikachu says Ash's name, so when Ash turned into stone, Pikachu was just saying his name
this movie is set towards the end of the "Indigo Arc" back when Chariizard didn't listen to Ash
You know it's funny I hear two voices from the same actor but yet from two very different shows and now that I put it all together years later. I cannot believe that Brock is also Seto Kiba from original Yugioh series. It's just so funny because there such opposite from each other's true personalities and goals and even in a character.

I looove this movie too! So much so that I have shiny hunted both Mewtwo (in Fire Red version) and Mew (in Pokemon GO). Both are now chilling in Pokemon HOME. :-D
I nicknamed my Mewtwo Weapon A, seeing as he was created as a weapon, and I would nickname Mew (if in HOME you could nickname your mons) Blue Moon, since shiny Mew is basicaly available once in a blue moon, as the saying goes.

I love this movie, but for me personally, Pokemon2000 and Pokemon4Ever are the best ones. The older movies just touch the heartstrings in a way the newer ones don’t 😅
Yes, that was Gary and his Nidoking and Arcanine. This is in the anime as well, since Ash got to the gym just after Gary did and had to wait. Gary gets wiped by Giovanni's mewtwo, then has to leave, leaving Jessie, James, and Meowth in charge if the gym for Ash's battle.
Ash has the badge for a gym Gary couldnt beat.

They didn’t retcon anything. That was another mewtwo. The mewtwo from this movie appeared again in Journeys at one point, eith the male voice

No joke...Mewtwo is one of the best villains ever written
This is a staple of the classic Pokémon franchise, but I found that a lot of the 4th generation movies (The ones about the Diamond, Pearl and Platinum games/TV seasons) went way harder and were a lot cooler.
Still, you can deny this one was great.
Mewtwo made the robot arms out of the scientists bones
It didnt make sense to me as a kid how mewtwo caught ash's pokeballs but as im now older it makes alot more sense. In the pokemon universe we know that pokeballs can be digitized because pokemon are sent to the boxes in pokeballs so mewtwo being a super genius would be more than capable of tweaking the code to allow for capturing the balls themselves
Jessie, James and Meowth do occasionally try to do other things than capture Ash's Pikachu, but they always happen across Ash and Pikachu anyway by sheer chance and can't resist the opportunity, and then they just keep trying again.
They think it'll improve their standing with the boss, who largely considers them useless.
This is what happens when people keep pausing the video every 10 seconds "Why did the Pokémon tears heal him?!" When the story was explained before everyone left for the island lmao😂

I think there is an extended version where you get a little more of mewtwo's background before the beginning of the movie

I love this movie!!!!! Mewtwo is such a BA in a good way. My favorite Pokémon of all time. I actually got to go to collect a con in my hometown I got Jason Paige’s autograph, Along with Eric Stewart and the OG Mario voice actor. I saw Dan Green the voice of mewtwo there but had already spent a lot of money I aim to get his next time if he comes next year

Emerald rogue is a romhack of emerald that turns emerald into a replayable roguelike experience. You basically start fresh every run and try to do a little better every time
The other is pokemon infinite fusion. Its a game where you can fuse pokemon together and theres TONS of incredible unique sprites

2:14 tbf i got an unpopular opinion with this, Squirtle is my go to, purely because its the one with the least weaknesses, its less weak to grass than charmander is to water and bulbasaur is to fire, and its attacks are more effective against charmander than charmander's are to bulbasaur and bulbasaur's are to squirtle, imo its got the most solid defence and attack of the three when referring to the three main pokemon types

It still drives me crazy that match of mewtwo vs arcanine and nidoking (gary) actually is canon. There's an episode where Ash visits Giovanni's Gym and it's closed, but Ash meets with Gary who tells him that it was impossible to get that gym badge. The gym was probably also closed because of the time that Mewtwo escaped, because Ash never fought Giovanni in that gym, but Team Rocket as a substitute. Gary even used his pokedex and Mewtwo wasn't detected because he's.. human made and ' new ' in the existence of pokemon (back then).
I'm currently working on a Fire Red nuzlock myself. Was playing it while watching your vid. I'm currently working with a Blastoise named Bubba, a Snorlax named Donut, a Hypno name Yo-Yo and a Nidoking named King George. lol
