This is quite interesting. I used to handle audio for outdoor venues (concerts, stadiums, football fields, etc.), and its super interesting to see how far the industry has progress for indoor talk-centric audio.
The stadium-wide wireless iPad-centered systems that allowed you to change the mastering across the field in real-time was incredibly cool stuff at the time, and this new tech is getting me the same excitement as those times in the yester-years.

The Duo looks amazing and makes much more sense than the Pro 2 for many people. I’m still not sure if I would be able to replace the GoXLR in my setup though. It doesn’t do virtual audio routing does it?

  • @ArbaLestos

How would you compare the DAC/headphone amp of the RCD to the GoXLR?
I currently have this chain: GoXLR line-out > Headphone amp (ifi Zen Can) > 450ohms headphones (Audio Technica r70x). This gives excellent sound quality for me.
Would the RCD be able to drive these high impedance headphones noise/hiss-free without needing the external amp?
If not, does the RCD have a line-out that can be connected to the line-in of the GoXLR? (may sound silly, but I want to keep the routing/recording/voice-effect functionality of the goxlr, while having a few more mic inputs with better EQ)

I bought the streamer x too, day 1.
It’s great! The only all in one solution on the market right now below 500 euros!
Usually rode hides some hardware that is not announced on day one.
It would be great if they added a video signal circuit used to apply LUTs, or something like that

I've had the Rodecaster Duo for two days now and can't get the audio from my Steam deck into the mixer without loud hiss.
The only way I can get the audio in at the moment is using a 3.5mm Female TRS to Mono 1/4" Male TS Adapter and plugged that into the XLR port. Then plugged in a 3.5mm cable to 3.5mm cable into that adapter and connected it to the steam deck audio jack.
I finally get audio but it hisses. Don't know why. Do I have a faulty XLR port?

Appreciate you talking about the DAC, with the type of headphones you pointed out that you use (Sennheiser HD800 ?) I'm not surprised you think the DAC is weak, aren't those headphones top of the line?, I wouldnt expect an "all-in-one" device for a reasonable price to be able to run those without noise. Surely the DAC in the Rodecasters cant be worse than the DAC in the GoXLR, I'm currently using a GoXLR with a Beyerdynamic MMX 300 2nd gen headset and I dont hear any noise, so if I decided to side-grade to a Rodecaster I should be fine. As a note: I could hear the hiss on the Steelseries Arctis Pro Wireless headset due to the built-in amp

  • @WiaderkoPiasku
    @WiaderkoPiasku 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

Is the hissing issue actually the DAC or the headphone amp? If it's just the amp, you could circumvent it in many cases by just running the speaker line input through an external headphone amp

I still would argue that the GoXLR isn't 'dead' as these rode devices still doesn't have some features that the GoXLR has:
-Virtual Audio routing via the routing table is A+ with the GoXLR, being able to filter music out of my stream mix is a MUST
-the sample pad on the GoXLR is another feature I personally use all the time, holding down the sample pad to get some snippets from youtube and being able to play it back in that moment is something the Rode Caster Pro 2 doesn't have.
(I have had the Rode Caster Pro 2 for around 5 days before it started to peel top right where the headphone knobs are, not impressed by that at all)
I will say that the preamps on the Rode Casters are A+ though, with the GoXLR I get a hissing sound from the mic whenever i turn on my camera for a stream - it's only heard by myself but it is still frustrating - that wasn't an issue with the Rode Casters.
overall Rode has done an amazing job with these devices BUT they've missed the mark with some of these features that the GoXLR has that would make them the perfect device.

Don’t know if this was your issue but this is a notice to anyone using this or RCP2. When I originally got the RCP2, I moved my 4th XLR to the virtual faders because I didn’t need it. While there was nothing fed into it and the virtual fader was up at unity, I was getting a tremendous amount of preamp noise despite all physical faders being down or muted. Took me a minute until I noticed what it was. I made sure to turn input gain and the virtual fader all the way down on mic 4. Poof, sound was gone. If anyone does that on Duo with Mic 2, be sure the virtual fader is down and the gain is also turned down on unused port.

Ok the audio is a major issue, and a major selling point!
I was so excited for this and honestly this was going to be my vocaster replacement, but now i think i'm going to pass, so i need a second device just to confirm that the audio is not noisy, and also when i'm not creating or streaming all i do is listen to music while working, 50% headphones and 50% on monitor speakers... What a let down.
It's an audio device! it has to be near perfect! Forget about the buttons, the one thing you expect is the audio to be on point... AH!!!

Thats the reason I will wait till mit 2024 maybe 2025 for streamer x 2.0. we need a tablet app to control, big downside and Lewitt hast same problem. the streamer x and Duo are like the most powerful race car standing at the start line, engine roaring make noise and... and... run like a slug

I wished there was a real review dedicated to the Duo. Your review was so far the best from 4 videos i have seen. Everyone just kept saying it was "like the Pro 2" blah blah blah which to me was pretty annoying. Thanks for pointing out the negative stuff.
