    I used a noise gate for a while because it was on a blue yeti sound profile :)) It was such hard work because I think there is a delay until the microphone starts picking up the voice again, so I had to keep speaking and then start my line on the script.

      Ohhh yeah that can be a problem :(

    If they had a good noise/room supressor like the one UAD has this would be perfect

    Totally agree with the pointlessness of a noise gate.

    I think the Duo looks great but like most of Rode products its about $100 too high. I will see about snagging a used one or wait until a competitor releases their alternative. Again,....it looks and sounds like a solid project. Thanks James for the review.
    Oh,..and THANK YOU for making me feel like I'm not alone on an island with my position on Noise Gates! I HATE THEM! The use case for a noise gate is VERY rare and to my ears,..it's just so unnatural and IMMEDIATELY obvious when someone has used it. I would rather try and physically address the noise issue around me BEFORE recording (if possible) or just live with it otherwise and try to lessen it a bit in post.

    Great video, to the point and clear to follow along with. I am glad I found your channel. It must be me, but my Rodecaster DUO output into ECAMM seems really low compared with other interfaces. Any ideas what I may be missing? My mic is the Rode PROCASTER

    • @JamesYounger
      @JamesYounger  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Unfortunately I have no experience with ECAMM so if that's somehow the issue I'll have no idea. All I can think of is make sure the gain inside the duo is up high enough (Though I'm sure you have). Maybe factory reset your DUO? Just reset it to it's default setting and see if the issue goes away?

    A properly configured noise gate is great for an already noise free setup to cut out unwanted breaths and mouth noises in recordings.

    • @JamesYounger
      @JamesYounger  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I get where you're coming from but A De-Clicker is for mouth noise. A gate will do absolutely nothing for mouth noise when speaking and that's typically when mouth noise occurs. And like I said, they have their time and place. A properly configured De-Noise tool will give you way better results than a gate will in this application.

    • @CreativeExcusesGaming

      @@JamesYounger Denoise plugins are great, but I do use a gate to manage breaths and mild mouth noises because the difference in volume is plenty for the gate threshold to catch while still letting through all of my speech. What makes a de-clicker better than a gate for mouth noises? Ive never looked into them, and assumed they were focused on mechanical sounds like clicking, keyboards, etc.

    • @JamesYounger
      @JamesYounger  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@CreativeExcusesGaming No no I understand. If it works it works, but a De-Clicker like (izotope mouth de-click) was specifically made for mouth noise. It's a life saver. I use it on every video (minus mic reviews). You usually don't hear mouth noise in conversations, but microphones are so much more sensitive than our ears and we are usually really close to a mic when recording so it picks up EVERYTHING 😵

      @@JamesYounger Interesting, Ill have to look up that declicker. Thanks for the tip

      It needs a downward expander. It needs to attenuate moderate to quiet background noise even further with some kind of thresold and ratio so when the gate opens, the sound is even more clean. It's beyond me why this hasnt another layer of sound suppression/removal.

    Ho acquistato RCP 2. Prodotto orribile pieno di difetti. Ha 4 mesi di vita,ho fatto 10 reset. Il panello frontale si stacca. Tenuto sempre sul tavolo senza mai spistarlo. Anche Rodecaster Duo. Una porcata totale.

    Awesome James is back woot woot you go big bro. O.k. two questions for you, would this be a good tool for Voice Over and does this work with non Rode microphone?

    • @milesian1
      @milesian1 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes and yes, although only Rode brand USB mics work with it. Also, you could easily get by with a good interface like an Audient or Focusrite Scarlet and record to a DAW like Audacity or Adobe Audition.

      I think Tom Buck commented in one of his videos that the Gigcaster was better for instruments. He had a short test with a guitar. Unsure in what video, probably in one of the podcaster pro 2 videos.

    i bought one of these on sale for 321 including tax USD i am going to try and replace my goxlr with it hopefully its up to the task because the software for rode compared to goxlr seems lack luster maybe it will get better.
