The amount of Mario stuffs that the Illumination team had gave us in the Mario movie is really great. The human characters were stylized just as it should : Mario-esque artstyle, no off-putting/clashing artstyle like the random Odyssey human NPCs. The world-building was also great since a lot of Mario IPs were culminated into one world, and they also included Brooklyn for Mario's homeworld. I think this easily belongs to Top 10 animated movies of 2023.

Was VERY apprehensive at first that Illumination was chosen but I also knew that Nintendo wouldn't allow their most valuable IP to be tarnished with a below-average movie. Not to mention, going with a smaller newer studio (and not Disney, Dreamworks or Pixar) avoids the issue of Nintendo having to put with extensive executive meddling - the bigger the studio, the more heads you answer to.
