It would be nice if 08:15 was in-focus so we could actually see the filament in the tubing.

I think the boden tube cutter might work better than scissors, its a print on thingyverse that takes a Stanley like blade, you may even have one already.

If this came out earlier this year, I would've snatched one up. But now that all my printers have a MMU3, AMS, or AMS Lite, all of which can switch to a different spool when one runs out, I don't have a use for this.

Awesome video. I'm definitely picking up one of these as a result. Even though the AMS can switch spools of the same filament when one runs out, there are scenarios where this would be better to fuze multiple filament pieces together.
I really like the multi-filament print as well. That is super cool!
Thanks for the temp tweak suggestions.

Had a £20 Sunlu voucher sent over yesterday so figured for the grand total of £8 I'd pre-order one. I was looking at my filament racks this morning and noticing how many nearly dead rolls I had. Im also dreaming up my own ideas for cool colour combos I can make .

    2 questions
1 - if you connect a full spool to existing installed spool how do you remove sleeve? Can it be cut
2 - can the sleeves be reused?
    Thank you for your answers

theres a little cutting tool integrated in the transparent lid

      1. You cut the sleeve after the filament has cooled and therefore is 2. NOT reusable. 3. You ONLY need the sleeve and a heat source, you don't really need the device.

@@brianlofton2489 True, I have used a soldering iron to do this, and I bought a large roll of the tubing. But I also just bought this to help make it more precise and easier. $35 is a super price for this device. So many other sellers sell joiners that are not reliable. But you can also use a 3D pen or a nice 3D printer. Your choice. But yes, there is also a cutter to take off the sleeve, which is a pain using a blade. Enjoy

Could be really useful to weld bottle pet filaments !

Kool little product. The one issue I see is that sleeve that goes over the connection. You have to remove it. If you have let's say a 1/4 roll you have to slide it down or put a razor to it. Nice informative video Len.

It actually comes with a section that cuts the filament I'm not sure if he showed it in this video

Their instructions tell you to push the ends in gently while it heats. I noticed you were not doing this. Was there a reason?

Would have loved to sign up for this, would save me a lot of filament, but they do not ship to my country GG.

Is this just to be able to use the last 2 feet(?) of a roll? For creative purposes, I get it, but not to save a bit of filament.

seems that it is made for 1,75 mm fimlament. Why not add a second deck for 3 mm?

Looks nice, a bit more usable then the average hack for welding filmanet you find on youtube.
I kind of was hoping that this weld wouldn’t need a consumable part. So this looks like the sleeves are single use. What if I have 2 long strands of filament, imagine 2 half rolls, now what? Do I need to use a knife to remove the sleeve?

The welder has a built-in cutter. He didn't understand how the thing works. It slices the sleeve along the axis of the filament in a second position. The tubes are simply short lengths of silicone tubing. I would think 1/16 ID X 1/8 OD. Another way would be to simply slice the sleeve with an exacto knife.

Seeing how he was able to slide the sleeve down the filament, I'd say you'd be able to reuse the sleeves if welding together short pieces of filament. I'd imagine you could just slide the sleeve down to the next spot ya want to stick together and repeat. Also looks like you could probably cut those sleeves in half and double your numbers.

    Tried it without PETG cover?

    • @falxonPSN
      @falxonPSN 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

It's not PETG. It's PTFE - Teflon. Trying without it would be a very messy process.

You don't answer the question how to remove the PETG tube between two 6 km spools ;)

  • @marcobassini3576

The only thing the video should have shown and failed: how to remove the tube guide in a real case scenario of joining two spools. Where to buy the guides and how much they cost. Clearly the author did not use the product other than making this ad.
