In America, same food chains are everywhere. In Asia, so many choices to eat. Each food vendor cooks/sells different dishes.
Yes true
Are there any favorites for you ?
Very well explained! SEA is the paradise!
It’s really true
It’s a change in society
The culture
Peace, happiness
Less stress
I enjoyed watching your vlogs and followed your investment advice. So far, so good! Thank you!
I hope I can be of some help and inspiration
I wish you the best
I could not agree more. I am a Hawaii guy (Big Island). Retired on Jan 1. Now, I am living in Asia (presently Taiwan). Don't see myself moving back to the islands; the cost of living is just nuts. One thing you did not mention is the service received. It seems almost everybody takes pride in what they do. I have never had a bad experience or substandard service (an everyday experience back in the islands).
Very interesting
I totally understand
How are you liking Taiwan and why Taiwan?
You have good insights
hawaii has become so so expensive. i am orig from wahiawa and it is not not the same any more
I understand
I am dealing with the same thing
The costs, higher property crime rates, homeless, no answers from government about any of these
Higher taxes, fees, licenses, insurance, property taxes, all of it
I’m not going fight against it any more
I’m out haha
In Asia now
you should go see a few countries this year and check them out ok?
I hear you. The Aloha spirit, one of the core gifts of the Hawaiian people to the rest of us, has taken a back seat to developers and expensive shiny condos and the values they now bring to "paradise."
Sadly, much of the world is heading in the same direction... The big money cartels are ruling out futures in many ways...
It is really frustrating about how much we pay, the inefficiency, and the erosion of our freedom.
True
They want to tax me more , but decrease my safety, rights , ability to defend myself ?
No thanks
😂😂 So true! Turn your life around. Live internationally and make America your annual vacation spot to visit family and friends.
Ba-Le, used to go there frequently for the excellent Bahn Mi sandwiches! So good!
Yes for sure
Oh yeah, they make great food
Hi R&G, lived in East Hon. (Kaimuki) from 1975-2005 after relocating from California. Union constr. tradesman worked all the islands, made a good living, earned a decent pension. Having visited SEA for years, knew that was the right place for my retirement years for all the reasons you've explained. For me Hawaii was the perfect place to raise my son and make a living but couldn't afford to retire there comfortably- it really lost the magic for me starting in the mid 1990s. So, been happy here in Thailand since 2005- remarried, have another son 30 yrs. younger than my first boy. most years a visit to family on West Coast US. Here -a house & condo, vehicles paid for in cash, no debt, except for the usual affordable living and traveling expenses able to bank most investment & pension income.
I really enjoyed reading this
Thank you
You have an amazing experience!
I enjoy your videos. Thank you. Never been to Hawaii and wouldn’t want to go. Except, I would loved to have seen it before the colonization.
Check out Kauai some time
You will be amazed
I have Kauai vids up
@@RetireandGo will do, thanks
Watching this from Tarija Bolivia drooling over the curry dish, man, I miss a good curry.
I do too
In Malaysia I find some darn good curry’s
Beautiful Hawaii! 🎉❤
I can't wait for your upcoming Asian travels! 🎉
I’m ready to go!
A great year ahead
Travel plans this year for you ?
@@RetireandGo that's wonderful!
I can't wait to see your next adventure! 🎉
Actually yes, ...in the next two to three months I plan to travel. 🙏🛫
You are so accurate. In Asia I don’t need a car
Yes for sure
A one dollar ride across town and walking , those are all I need haha
Thumbs up 👍
Thank you !
I appreciate it :-)
A very interesting perspective. I’m in my early 30s and have lived in Hawaii Kai most of my life. Just used to your complaints as part of just how life is. I went to college in the states but for the most part I know no other way of living. I live in kaimuki now and it’s a lot better transit to work than HK. My favorite restaurant is Repittis they got some good pasta. Semi affordable too.
Thank you for this suggestion!
Amen brother Amen
And an Amen right back to you !
Keep up the great videos. I also live in Hawaii Kai (you passed by my house in one of your videos😂), and I share your frustration. Your meal at Ba-le looked great, but was probably over $50. It would have been half as much in Asia. The quality of life is significantly better and less expensive in Asia. Hawaii is one of the best places in the world, but its quality of life is declining.
I agree David
I will rent my home for ten years and make an assessment then
Aloha sir
Nice video
Thank you
Have a great week :-)
Goma Tei near Ala Moana and Olive Tree in Kahala were my favorites. Have you been there?
Goma tei yes, that’s a really good one
I've lived in Oahu and the Big Island, I am ready to retire in Thailand...in about 1 year!
Thailand is a great choice
Have you spent a few months there searching around ?
@@RetireandGo My mom retired there 20 years ago. She used to live in Bangkok but now, prefers Pattaya. Being from Hawaii, I have that need too, to be close to the Ocean.
All that you said about America I could say about the UK, and that is why we travel and spend time in the East Asian countries.
Yes probably true
I hope you find a place of peace where you can thrive ok?
Check out a few countries this year and explore
You are comparing the suburbs in the US to inner cities in SEA. In NYC, you can also get anything you want within 5-10 minutes walking distance.
New York is a very cool town
Do you live there ?
You should start social media from there
Check out cash Jordan
Where exactly is this Ba-le Vietnamese restaurant located?
This one is near the airport
@@RetireandGo Sorry, no Ba-le Vietnamese Restaurant found, are you giving us the correct name?
I ❤ massaman gai. Yum!
Yes! Yum
I do too haha
I’m
Ready for some great foods this year
Was in Hawaii once back in 2002, only saw Maui and Kauai. Would love to go back and see more. Don't think I would want to live there because it's so expensive and because of the politics, will leave it at that. Do love that there are no snakes! Thought Guam would be a pretty cool place to be because I'm married to a Filipina, it's a US territory, but a hop skip and a jump from the Philippines and many Filipinos living there. But quite the military target and also expensive (and snakes now, haha). Would love to see you do more in the Philippines but enjoying seeing all of the content. Interesting comments on Asian vs American ways of doing things. I kind of look at owning a personal vehicle and being able to go wherever you want as a big freedom. Seems to me they want to force us into electric vehicles or do away with it all and make us have to use trains and other forms of mass transit. I'm just very skeptical of any push to control freedom of movement. Interesting that you look at it as a freer state of being. Vehicle prices are insane these days to be sure. Both of ours are paid off and I will drive them until the wheels fall off. Personally where I am everything I need is close by and I really don't have to range out of a small area around my home for most things, although I wouldn't say it's really walkable. My problem is I work a long way from home. I ran across a car that was converted to run on propane, which I guess is a bigger thing in Europe, and I still pay under $2 a gallon and get within one MPG of the same range out of a gallon of propane versus gasoline. But I'm lucky to have a place where I can get it for that, and a lot of places are charging highway robbery for propane. Obviously the infrastructure isn't really there so much for it. I all for making things simpler. Am increasingly finding that more stuff and clutter really stresses me out. Becoming much more of an experiences over possessions kind of guy now. Having everything so close by would be nice. I also like this suburbs where I am and having a little personal space and being able to have a decent sized lot, although it's getting carved up and harder and harder to find stuff like that. I don't really like being in a super densely populated area and practically being able to smell my neighbor's bad breath. And at least in the west it seems that the more crammed into a place people are, the less civil they are, and that is wearing on me. Have seriously considered trying to retire in the Philippines, although I have a few reservations. Things like the ability to defend yourself, the way they locked down In the past few years (although it sure beat being stuck in Australia), and the China threat. Other problem is I'm increasingly becoming someone who really wants my peace and quiet and I think I would be perfectly happy living in the middle of nowhere and not being able to see my neighbors. Much of Asia probably isn't too good for that. The other problem is you want to be close to some things, like good healthcare. Just can't have it all I suppose.
You are feeling the same way as many.
We want peace
We are tired of fighting and getting less and less , for more in taxes
We need a break and some silence
Great!😅
Thank you :-)
I hope your week is going well
Remember that old Honolulu was designed more like Asia, especially Chinatown. Chinatown used to be a major residential area. There used to be a trolley that went from the harbor to Waikiki in 15 minutes. Check out The House Without a Key, the first Charlie Chan book published in 1925.
But if you think SEA is convenient, you should check out China. Don't believe the lies in Western media.
True
Good point
I will have to read that one thank you !
What beach is this? Mahalo!
That is in Hawaii kai
Near port lock
It’s not even a cost effective decision, it’s a lifestyle choice.
True
Well said !
South East Asia any day of week...
I totally agree
I’m heading back ! Let’s do this !
