Wonderful conductor and brilliant musician a natural talent
Thank you for posting a time-corrected version of this. Only w/ perfect synchronicity can we see the perfect incision of his pulse, and how CK would move 'ahead of the beat' from time to time. It allowed room for rubato of every sort, and music-making of a sort hardly ever seen anywhere. This was the first concert I ever saw him conduct. It changed forever my notion of what great conductors could do. I suspect it was the same for thousands of others.
The greatest Conductor of all time by a long way.
There’s no “greatest conductor of all time”, period. There have been, and there will be, precious Great Conductors. Kleiber was definitely one of them but he wasn’t “better” than Fürtwangler, Mahler, Mitropoulos, Walter, etc etc
@@AB-vd8rt You are wrong
Carlos Kleiber was a phenomenon. He is so beautiful to watch. Like no other conductor, with his expressions and gestures he literally becomes the music. I have his legendary DG recording of Beethoven's 5th and 7th. They are both as if you are hearing the works for the first time.
It's nice to a conductor smile and enjoy himself.
Rerhaps Carlos contagious friendliness is because his youth was in Buenos Aires. The best interpretation of the 4th of Beethoven
CK was very special. He enjoyed gardening more than conducting, and performed less than 100 concerts during his whole career. His father Erich Kleiber was a genius too.
Yes but he conducted almost triple the amount of opera performances
Carlos Kleiber is a joy to watch. A consummate artist who brings out the best of the orchestra and the music. Greatest left hand in the business. Amazing!!!
Honestly, this is one of the most impressive and impeccable orchestral performances I've ever seen. Music just lives with Kleiber. And of course the Concertgebouw is absolutely fantastic.
Agree!!!
I wish, Carlos was still here. He left us in July 2004. Carlos Luis Bonifacio Kleiber (3 July 1930 - 13 July 2004) Not a too long life in our time.
Consummate genius to get them to play exactly what he shows them! Such exuberant playing and musicianship!
Kleiber may be the best I’ve ever seen. His Beethoven 5&7 recording is the GOAT
One of the orchestra members once told me this anecdote: "We never played Beethoven with double woodwinds in those days, that was already deemed old-fashioned. But when Kleiber came to conduct us, everybody wanted to be there. So we just doubled again. When Mariss Jansons, our chief conductor in a later period, saw our Beethoven-Kleiber video, he asked: "but why the double winds?" And we answered: "Because...Kleiber!" And he understood"
If you watch Beethoven's 7th, from later that night, you'll notice that the woodwind principals have switched. They 'divided the loot', so to speak ("You do the 4th, I do the 7th")

Great anecdote, Thank you! I know that Jansons held Kleiber in very high esteem. Jansons said he wrote to CK, and explained that his father played under Erich Kleiber's baton. They they met in 2003 after a rehearsal when he was chief conductor of the Bavarian Radio Symphony, and spoke for several hours about many topics. Jansons was reportedly very happy and in awe about the encounter
I absolutely LOVE to watch Carlos Kleiber conducting!❤🎀 It is a delight!
I've been watching this record for the last 13y, and i'm still in love with!
What a privilege that we have this beautiful document.
what a conductor amazing and Amstadam orch terrific
Sublime, merci. ❤️
The execution of 10:01-10:08 is super extraordinary.
In my youth, this and the 7th were my favorite Beethoven Symphonies. Excellent performance! Cute parody of Haydn.
Just one word..... HAPPINESS
Magnifique, quelle leçon de musique !
I. Adagio - Allegro vivace 1:00
II. Adagio 12:50
III. Scherzo-trio: Allegro vivace 22:38
IV. Allegro ma non troppo 28:11
Thanks a lot!
Thank you for the synchronised upload. Finally ❤
SPEECHLESS, SPECTACULAR!
pity he only accepted offers when his fridge was empty. His repertoire was tiny, but, holy mother of Christ, what a Beethoven, what a Rosenkavalier!
Kleiber is unmatched in precision. Watch in real-time--watch his left hand: 12:10 to. 12:24
Tremendous
Nhạc trưởng giỏi và tuyệt vời.❤. Cảm ơn
Genial.
Kleiber is a freak - one of the GOATS
Simplesmente o fenômeno da regência.
❤
Voted by his peer conductors as the best 20th century conductor. Bernstein came in at No2.
01:00 __ I. Adagio - Allegro vivace
12:50 __ II. Adagio
22:37 __ III. Menuetto Allegro vivace -Trio - Un poco meno allegro
28:10 __ IV. Allegro ma non troppo
Great! What is this concert hall’s name?
It's called the "Concertgebouw", which is Dutch for "Concert Hall".
@@OE1FEU Thanks! I guess so. But I was surprised it’s very long stair .
No wonder he did so few performances ...
Why

17:12-17:26 it's interesting how the first and second violins are zigzaggingly executing down bows and up bows!
Yes, Kleiber insisted on split bowing with the orchestras he worked with, the idea being to get a more seamless legato.
ESSA SINFONIA No. 4 DE BEETHOVEN, FICA MAIS INEXPRESSIVA AINDA, QUANDO É INTERPRETADA POR UM MAESTRO PEDANTE, GROSSEIRO E DE PÉSSIOMO RELACIONAMENTO COM OS MÚSICOS DA ORQUESTRA EM QUE ELE ESTÁ REGENDO. CARLOS KLEIBER, SUBTRAI MUITO MAIS, O VALOR DA OBRA QUE INFELIZMENTE ELE REGE. ELE NÃO TINHA EMPATIA COM AS OBRAS QUE ELE REGIA. OS MÚSICOS QUE ESTIVESSEM SOB SUA REGÊNCIA NUNCA ESTAVAM À VONTADE, PORQUE ELE TOLHIA A INDIVIDUALIDADE DE CADA UM COM SEU JEITO TIRÂNICO E MAU HUMORADO.

The members of the orchestra don't even look at him: why should they? He doesn't do anything. He just performs this little ballet on the podium occasionally waving his arms. What his few gestures communicate to the players is anyone's guess. This guy was so over rated.
It’s all done in rehearsal. They play very energetically and with intensity for him. His movements are reminders not directions.
Why is Carlos loosing his time to conduct these frozen protestants ?
For God's sake, stay in München or in Wien !!!
(same thing with Bernstein trying to play Mahler in Wien, with an antisemitic and hostile orchestra)
Well, he never conducted the Concertgebouw again after this. Kleiber considered the orchestra “stolid and uninterested.” He didn’t like the resistance he got from several of the members even though most liked him.
Thank you for your comment. Poor Kleiber, he is suffering all the time ..............@@MrTann2010
