This may be the biggest miscalculation in enthusiast vehicle engine selection in history. How in the world did they sign off a car dropping 4 cylinders and gaining 350kg? And then they decided to raise the price! There is a reason that literally no one wants these immediately after launch, spectacular failure.
Mercedes-AMG Australia reckons orders has been no different from previous V8 generations, but time will tell if demand drops off once the early adopters have taken their fill.
@@carsales Can't be true, or facts have been spinned - I have a friend that works for Merc and he was given a C63SE prior to launch to show to as many family and friends as possible as sales were supremely lacking at his dealership.
Think of it this way, as a four door saloon, it makes sense. What they SHOULD have done is kept the c63 coupe for a while with the v8. You're not exactly carving corners in a four door sedan, at least, the VAST majority of people do not. So it makes more sense in the sedan version to go for pure speed. What MERC should have done is what they did in 2015 when the w205 came out and kept the m156 6.2 liter in the coupe. They could have done this at least for a few years. The CLE53/63 kind of bridge the gap in my opinion. The new c63 makes more sense knowing the CLE will have a "better" engine for the car.
In the beginning I was like hell to the no... But in the real world where we have traffic, speed cameras and humps and never really taking the car to the track... It an undoubtable yes. This is a better car. The only reason why I'd buy the E63s over this is because the E class is cheaper
My friend, let me remind you. The whole point of buying an expensive sports car is to enjoy all that compromise. The C63 was a good car, with all of those problems it was a good car. Didn't deserve to die, not like this.
I also don't understand how people don't realize that Mercedes is being forced by regulations to downsize their engines and since they aren't going to go after their top models that make them TONS of money and also are sold in fewer quantity, it makes sense to go after models that will actually effect their numbers. I think this is a great car, just a bad c63. What they should have done was kept the v8 in the c63 coupes for a while but it would have competed against their CLE AMG's.
C class badging aside, honestly get over the 4 cylinders. This car is so fast and FUN to drive. Read all the hate reviews but until you are behind the wheel, it’s a different story. There are also no vs. race of this car against anything on other cars the web I can really find. Just reviews like this, only hatchback. At 2.9 0-60 not that bad.
All that extra power and all that extra weight only to have an identical 0-100kph time to a significantly less powerful M4 comp, and only 1 tenth of a second faster than the m4 in a quarter mile
Have always disliked the way M-B now use misleading model designations. Who ever heard of an C63 with 4-cylinders... or an E-63 with only 6, both at a greater price than the old V8! Also, at the normal end of the market, the old E350 used a 3.5L V6, with an output close to 300 bhp, no turbo (let alone twin-turbos) and buyers could opt for a medium capacity motor, highly sophisticated, but equally under stressed... a sad state of affairs in the recent model ranges.
Local AMG salesman tells me these are not selling (neither is the C43 AMG at rrp). Does Caresales have any sales figures on these? I have had 3 x C63s in the past (a 507 204 and a 205 coupe and sedan) and there is not a chance I will be buying this. If I am a representation of the typical buyer (and surely with three of them I should be) then AMG are in big trouble. I would opt for the lovely CLE53 instead. If I wanted a 4 cylinder performance car I would simply get a CLA45s.
Mercedes Motto: The best or nothing... well this is nothing (as an AMG goes). Transitioning to just another EV and has lost it's identity, character and everything that is a C63
Mate their is a reason mercedes badge the c63 and it goes way back, and this is nothing to do with it, this is like a hairdressers version of the c63, I hope someone buys one and puts the v8 up front with the elec motor at rear then we might have a proper car, Cause this is not what a c63 is more like a c23
Merc paid advert? Or did they promise special treatment … They all keep saying all these radical tech and changes are worth it because of all the extra power/performance on offer … .. yet BMW ///M & to our surprise the new AUDI RS4/RS5 competition, both deliver near identical acceleration times etc… and in BMWs case they m3/4 outperform this new c63s on track easily ..,
If this was a paid advertisement we would have no integrity. The idea that car company's can pay off our journalists is insulting. At several times Sam makes criticisms. Happy to provide more details of what are charter is if you want.

The old V8s just became collectibles
You could be right!
Especially the coupes. I'm trying to find one and can't find anything under $60,000 with decent miles.
Rest in peace V8 C63.
If they had called it the C53SE they probably would have reduced the damage.
Good point.
Or the C663. And just said their horsepower was 663 hp lol.
Get the M3 comp. BMW are killing it at the moment
Probably faster round corners, not in a straight line. This AMG is a rocket.
I switched from AMG to M after a 4 AMGs in the last 10 years.
@@CorvusHyperion Which AMG's? E55? E63?
A 1.0 VW polo also has a similar exhaust note. I know because my Granny drives one.
Burn!
finally a real review!! the car is really really good.
Stupid EU rules….
Another nice review, Sam. Thank you.
No replacement for displacement, sorry but so true.
Have you driven this car yet? Maybe you should go test drive and then comment. This AMG is a rocket.
Wrong badge and timing to bring this out Mercedes.

@@Logicandemotions the 4.0 V8 biturbo is actually cheaper but I don't know about the upcoming E63 or the or the current E53
And it's a complete sales BOMB nobody wants them dealers can't get rid of them.
Saw one in Mercedes brisbane
The question might be- How does this compare to a Civic Type R? Engines kinda similiar and does the extra speed bring better satisfaction?
Great idea for a comparison. We'll pass along this suggestion.
Excuse me, one car is 400% the price of another. Terrible comparison.
I've taken delivery of the wagon version and am really enjoying the car.

Who TF buys a C63s for efficient fuel consumption? We demand the V8 back & stop d* riding.
the most hilarious thing about this car is that when the battery is recharting it actually cost more fuel than a 3.0 M3

Side by side the AMG would blitz the M4 Comp. That's our feeling anyway. We're conniving for a comparison. Stay tuned.

Mercedes is BAT SHIT CRAZY for axing the V8 AND increasing the price. Why would anybody buy this over an M3 or even a used 911?! $187k is THEFT🤣🤣
