I don't know why TH-cam recommended your channel, but I was so excited to hear from Americans who also moved to Puerto Vallarta. I moved there in 1993 following a vacation, and I just knew I had to go back. I got a job as an OPC at the Villa del Palmar, which is where I stayed on vacation. At first I lived in a charming, gated apartment building near the marina. Then, after having my apartment broken into twice, I moved to the whole other side of town near the Zona Romantica on a street called Calle Jacarandas off of Basilio Badillo. It was the most fantastic apartment, high up on a hill, backing up to the jungle with a full view of the entire bay, including the Sleeping Lady mountain to the north. It was HUGE, and every unit except the owner's penthouse (which I was just below) has a small swimming pool on a private balcony. If you haven't gone over that way and tried Marisma's street tacos, you simply must. It's on Naranjo at Venustiano Carranza. You will not be sorry, I promise you. I live in Redondo Beach, California, now, which I chose because it reminds me so much of Vallarta. I would so love to go back someday to visit and bring my husband so he can see where I lived, but I'm really afraid of how it will feel to me compared to how rustic and genuinely Mexican it was 20+ years ago. @@RetiredLifeMexico Hola! Well since you live near the beach anyway, I would probably check out Plazuela Machado. There are great food options and cool little ice cream shops ect. But you could do that going over to Stone island as well! Its a beautiful beach on the other side of Mazatlan and from the port and wouldn't take long to get there. I'm having difficulty not saying that you are being over charged however prices are subjective. So as long as you are satisfied, comfortable and safe that is all that should matter. I will be following your channel. I really enjoyed this video.
Hola! Thanks for watching and commenting! It's ok for you to say you think we are overpaying and being overcharged. But like you stated, price is subjective and we do feel safe and comfortable here. We hear stories of others who pay a lot less than we do and they also give up some of our comforts, ie. air-conditioning, washer-dryer, and a decent kitchen. Also, location, location, location. We are paying for that as well. We're planning on doing some videos of other rentals in the different neighborhoods. Stay tuned! Enjoy your day :)
Thank you so much for posting this. I learned a lot. You gave me hope i maybe able to retire in one of the States in Mexico. You both are awesome couple. Looking forward to watching future video.
Frankly, $2,500 rent for an apartment is just silly money in Mexico. A talented neuro-surgeon could not afford it, so it's clearly aimed at wealthy expats only. $1,500 for a 1-bedroom without much character is still expensive, but if YOU guys like it and it perfectly fits into your budget, more power to you. There are expats who live off $1,500 per month, and that includes rent. I personally like a house, a garden, a roof terrace, and privacy, but we all have different taste and priorities. What matters is that you are happy with your life and your choices and your videos help many in giving a view into the world of Mexico seen with expat eyes. Do you consider buying a home in Mexico eventually?
Hola, thanks for watching and commenting. Refresh my memory, do you live in Mexico? I've been responding to a lot of comments lately. I appreciate your candidness and you are right. We all have our individual tastes and priorities. We may buy a house in the future...probably a condo though where we can lock it up and travel. We are past doing the upkeep for a house. We are enjoying sharing our view of Mexico through our expat eyes. There are the only eyes we have. Plus, we are still learning so much about Mexico and the wonderful people here. See you next time!
I rented an apartment by the River Cuales there that had a "Suicide Shower" with absolutely NO water pressure! It also had one of those long keys that are more like a screwdriver than a key, half the time I had to leave that door unlocked because didn't want to spend the night outside on the street! LOL I lied and gave the place a decent review on Airbnb. After that I was like just spend the extra money and treat yourself to nice living arrangements. I like your apartment but I kind of agree with some of the viewers that $1500 seems a little high. But what matters is that the two of you are happy not what other people think. When I move to Mexico permanently and if I decide to live in Puerto Vallarta, I will look up your realtor. Thanks
Isn't it interesting the different places one can rent? I think we've decided to spend a little more and be comfortable. Also, there are so many youtubers who like to point out the really inexpensive places you can find, if you are willing to give up some things, ie. air conditioning, washer-dryer, mosquito screening, etc. We're past living like we can't afford a little better. And, yes, our realtor is the best! Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy your day!

Rents in PV are definitely going up. It is kond of funny you mentioned Temecula, I used to live there as well. I liked Temecula, but it was too expensive for me so I moved north to Riverside.
Hi! The year-round temperature here in Puerto Vallarta is warm enough that we don't need any heating system. Other parts of Mexico do require it in the winter. I have an Air Fryer that substitutes for an oven...takes some getting used to, but I don't bake anything huge, so not a problem. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thank you for this video 😊 New subscriber and appreciate your honesty. I have only beennin Yucatan, but dobplan on exploring more of Mexico. I prefer to live and stay away from tourists in local neighborhoods 😊

Great information, always enjoy your videos, we have been to PV many times but this coming January we decided to go to Playa del Carmen, and was wondering if there is any good vegan restaurants to try. We have tried your recommendations in PV and appreciate any insight.
Hola! Happy to see you here! We have not been to Playa del Carmen yet. They say it is really hot during hurricane season so we stayed away and then to travel there during the winter is a little bit difficult as we so enjoy Vallarta at that time. Don't know about any vegan restaurants there, but remember, the Happy Cow app is your friend! Maybe there is a vegan/vegetarian facebook page for Playa del Carmen? Let us know what you find :) Enjoy your day!
A big reason for not overpaying on rent and helping to gentrify the neighborhood is the devastating effect it has on the indigenous community living on $6 a day. It’s driving prices up so high that they can’t afford to live in their own town(s). ✨ Please avoid contributing to the problem if you can ✨
Thanks for watching and commenting. It is a big issue here for sure. I think there is a fine line between the good and the bad aspects of us foreigners coming to Mexico and spending our money here. We spend more money on rent and spend more money in the local economy as well. Enjoy your day!

@@RetiredLifeMexico we retired 2 years ago n planned on SNOWBIRDING (2-3 months) to get away from the cold( we are in suburb outside of Chicago, Il). I went to PV many years ago. Wanted to return, but as you mentioned it is so hard to find an an Airbnb that’s decent n also in a walkable and safe neighborhood, as we can’t afford a car rental for 2-3 months. This year we are planning to go to Baja California Mexico n staying in La Paz. My husband n I are Spanish speaking, from Puerto Rico, but he’s been listening to the news showing crime in n is afraid of going to Mexico. So maybe we’ll try PV in 2026( Jan, Feb, n March).
That will be nice to visit La Paz. Lots of opportunity for swimming there according to our friends who visited last year. It's great that you speak Spanish, it's so fun to be able to talk to the people who live here. The news does focus on the bad stuff in Mexico...but that's like focusing on the bad stuff in Chicago. Our sons attended med school in Chicago and we visited them often. I never felt scared there, as long as I didn't walk around at night, etc. Same goes for our neighborhood in Puerto Vallarta. I hope you enjoy your time in La Paz. I would be interested in hearing how it goes! Enjoy :)

Hi. Anyone can give me advice on how to find a place to rent in P.V. ? Never been to Mexico before and I have no idea how go about finding a place once I'm there.
Hi, thanks for watching and commenting. You could start by emailing our friend and rental agent: Fred Peters: rentalpropertiespv@outlook.com. Good luck!
It doesn't seem to be too difficult to find a place that will accept pets. We have several friends with pets; and even in our apartment building there are several small dogs.
When choosing an Airbnb stay do you look for rock bottom nightly prices ? If so, you get what you are paying for . As an Airbnb owner in PV , my listing is rather lux yet very price competitive. . You just need to look at the listing pages better .
Hola, thanks for watching and commenting. We have since learned to read the listing pages better, that's for sure. We also rely heavily on the comments from past visitors, however, they tend to be overstated due to the Airbnb rules. Pictures are important as well. We don't look for the cheapest rental because we really need a kitchen and the location is important. I would love to see your Airbnb if you'd be willing to show it to us. We can do a video tour!
Vallarta that is now considered the most expensive place for rents in Latin America. We live 1/2 & 1/2 in Canada and PV. Many things are now more expensive in PV then Québec city. I know of many who will not return
Hola. Thanks for watching and commenting. That's an interesting statistic. Which part of Puerto Vallarta do you live in? We sure see a lot of Canadians and other snow birds around and about. Where might the others go instead of Puerto Vallarta?
Never been there but it must be nice . Obviously living in one country for six months and then six months in another will end up being expensive as every six months you are buying plane tickets and are maintaining 2 different homes all year long . The math will never work with the six months here six months there routine but maybe worth it for some to avoid the brutal winters
Yes, there are trade-offs for everything. I hear those winters can be brutal. The math may not make sense but some people are certainly doing it. We have met several who are only paying for the six months they are here, not all year. They worked it out years ago. Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy your day!
Hola! I am referencing the Emiliano Zapata market...which has La California fresh fruits/vegeys and Norma's across the street is called Baca. There are also fresh meats/poultry, etc in the market. Two tortillerias and another fresh fruit/vegey store on the corner! It is a wonderful place...all of it right there!
Sounds like you guys have been really, REALLY gringo-priced, even for PV. This is bad, because this raises the prices for everyone else in PV, even the locals who most certainly could not afford USD$1500-2500/month. I really do wish people haggle more and insist on local prices for that reason. On the positive side, I just stumbled on your channel and quite liked it, so far. Subscribing
Hola. Thanks for watching and commenting. Do you live here in PV? Or do you visit often? We have plans to show other neighborhoods around town so people can see how some of the local people have benefited from our presence here. Thanks for subscribing. Happy to have you here.
Hola, thanks for watching and commenting. Yes, the 1500 includes internet, water, gas and building maintenance. We pay extra for electricity averaging $20 usd a month. It gets charged every two months, so we will see how it has changed with our use of air conditioning this past month. No need for ac come November though! It really depends on the neighborhood so we are going to do some neighborhood tours in the future to check them out! Have you been to PV before?
@@RetiredLifeMexico Thanks for the info. Since it can be really hot and humid, approximately how much does your electricity run you per month? I only ask because we are also considering Merida Mexico and I know it is extremely hot there as well and I heard that your electricity bill can go pretty high. Just trying to create our budget for living in Mexico. Thanks again for the video.
It's really like comparing apples and oranges and we have not been to Merida in yet as we also have heard that it is really hot in the summer. Yes, it is hot and humid here in the summer but it really depends on the neighborhood you live in because they charge the electricity rate based on usage and zones. For example, we understand that in the hotel zone it can be very expensive. We have been paying less than 20 usd a month before the summer heat. We have been back in Vallarta since September 5 and it has been really hot and humid so we've been using ac every day and night. When we get our bill we will see how much it has gone up! They say it is based on an average amount of usage over the year to determine your rate. We'll let you know!
Hola. Thanks for watching and commenting. Here's Fred's info: Fred and Dave's PV Property WhatsApp: (52) 322 151 2235 Email: rentalpropertiespv@outlook.com Are you coming to Puerto Vallarta soon?
$2,500 USD for a Puerto Vallarta one-bedroom???? Darn! That’s crazy expensive. $1,500 USD? That’s gringo pricing. You are contributing to raising the prices in the whole area. I doubt the locals will like that and eventually you’ll start to experience a different attitude from them.
Hola. Thanks for watching and commenting. Are you living here in Puerto Vallarta? You are probably correct in saying that we are contributing to the rising prices. However, on the flip side, we are also contributing to the local economy by spending a lot of money in local stores, restaurants, and charities. I hope the locals don't change their attitudes towards us because at the moment they are very welcoming. Enjoy your day!
electrical wires in the shower? How do you make sure you don't get an Airbnb with that? Oh my goodness Puerto Vallarta does not sound as easy as some other places is it because it is such a touristy area maybe?
Yes, we have stayed at a lot of Airbnbs and some are nicer than others. You can see pictures of the places on the Airbnb website. I don't think Puerto Vallarta is any different than most places. One just has to be sure to do your due diligence when searching for accommodations.
Hello…coincidentally, I live in Temecula and I’m considering moving to Mexico. Is it possible for you to DM Fred’s contact info to me? Also, how difficult do you think it would be to find lodging with my 2 cats?
Hi! Here's Fred's info: Fred & Dave's PV Property WhatsApp: 322 151 2235 Email: rentalpropertiespv@outlook.com I don't think it is too difficult to find a place that accepts pets. Good luck with the search. We love it here! Thanks for watching and commenting :)
I wonder if anyone that retireds in Mexico . Do anyone move to small towns ? Not Your regular places where people go . I know rent can be way cheaper is smaller towns .
Yes, I am sure they do live in smaller towns. They speak more Spanish than a lot of people who move here. It's very possible to pay a lot less for sure. Thanks for watching and commenting!
There is a rather large expat community in a little town called Ajijic that's near Lake Chapala. It's not far from Guadalajara, which is a fantastic city.
Have you ever considered Bucerias? I don’t live there but have visited several times. It’s just as beautiful, quieter, and is way less touristy with a much more community feel and, the streets are way safer to navigate.
We have visited Bucerias and have a different take. When you visit do you stay on the beach side or the mountain side? We stayed on the beach side and rarely heard any Spanish due to all of the tourists. It is pretty and the sidewalks are easier to navigate, but too many tourists for our taste. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate your perspective. Enjoy your day!
@@RetiredLifeMexico we stay with friends who have a house on the beach side but have explored the upper east side as well. This year we are staying across the highway. Yes, it can be touristy (usually only the ocean side and Centro though) but I think that can be said for a lot of places during high season.
You are right about that. We don't go to the touristy spots much here during the high season either. So far we are enjoying the community we are building here in Vallarta, but who knows. Maybe in the future we will look more into Bucerias. What do you do during your stay when in Bucerias?

Thanks for watching and commenting. That's a really nice thing to say. There is hope for all of us to live in Mexico. Have a great day!
Wow 🤩 what a nice apartment.
Thanks! And thanks for watching :)
I’m also from Cali. Beautiful new rental n glad U both like it, but for me, it’s a lil costly. If given the opportunity, I’d probably go for the lower cost place. Ty for sharing.🥰Enjoyed it subscribed.💕Btw, love that the market is 2 blocks away U have a beautiful view n it’s also a 15 minute walk away to the beach.🏝️🏖️
Hola! Thanks for watching and commenting. We love the location and you are right, there are several that are less expensive. We are going to do some videos showing them in the future. What part of Cali are you in? Enjoy your day!
Southern California
Somehow came across your video. Very informative. I’m Puerto Rican and love Mexico. I haven’t been there in quite awhile though. I’d love to take my kids. I’d need a 2 bedroom or 3 bedroom though. 😊 Any information on your agent would be awesome.

@@RetiredLifeMexico Just got my Winter plane ticket for Central Mexico... Looking forward to it.
Yay! That's exciting!
Really interesting video, love the apartment, so nice to see other areas of P.V. :)
Hola! Nice to see you here! Thanks for watching and commenting. Glad you like the apartment. Remind me of where you have been in Puerto Vallarta?
@@RetiredLifeMexico We only visited the Romantic Zone and the Marina, so much more to explore!
Rents in PV are definitely going up. It is kond of funny you mentioned Temecula, I used to live there as well. I liked Temecula, but it was too expensive for me so I moved north to Riverside.
Rents are going up in a lot of places! Riverside is a nice area Thanks for being here! Enjoy your day!
Hi just watching your video. I am from the UK London. Our do you manage without a oven. Dose it get very cold there. What about heating.
Thanks for the info!
Thanks for watching and commenting. Glad you enjoyed the information. Happy day!
Nice place. Enjoy!
Thank you for this video 😊 New subscriber and appreciate your honesty. I have only beennin Yucatan, but dobplan on exploring more of Mexico. I prefer to live and stay away from tourists in local neighborhoods 😊
Hola, thanks for watching and subscribing! You sound like someone who lives as we do...near the beautiful areas, but not so much in the tourist zones. Enjoy your day!
Do you have an RV or a car in Puerto Vallarta? Thanks for your video!
Hi! We do not have a car anymore, and we sold the RV, too! It is so freeing not to have to worry about all things a car entails. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Good job! Thank you.

Are you coming to Puerto Vallarta any time soon?
Enjoy :)
Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Glad you enjoyed the video. Buen día!
If you are not just wanting to live on the west coast, you should look into the Bahias de Huatulco area.
Hola! We did check it out for one day on our cruise stop. Looks like a nice quiet area and we may have to visit again to see more. Do you live there? Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy your day!
Nice place! Would be 3-4K in SD
Does the church have hourly chimes?
Nice view
Exactly! Thanks for watching :) Qué tengas un buen día amiga!

Good luck!
Is it hard to find a place with PETS. Cause it is hard to rent with pets here in the states.
It doesn't seem to be too difficult to find a place that will accept pets. We have several friends with pets; and even in our apartment building there are several small dogs.
Is there a site where there are photos of the Airbnb or no? I am brand new to learning everything. Sorry for all the questions.
Yes, on the Airbnb website and/or the app. Lots of information to sift through there. Be sure to read the reviews from other visitors.
Welcome to the world of.. Drum Roll 🥁 “Everyone Has an Opinion” 👏👏🤣🤣
Hahaha! You are so right about that ;)
Vallarta that is now considered the most expensive place for rents in Latin America.
I would love to know what market you referenced.
Subscribing

@@RetiredLifeMexico I own a condo there and I'm coming down in November for a week and then 3 months starting late December through March.
Great! Maybe we will see you in town! Buen día :)
@@RetiredLifeMexico Would be nice. I'll keep my eyes open.
Thanks for this video. We r considering PV for retirement. Question, does the $1500 include utilities and/or internet?
Thanks again for the video.
lol just saw I had to hit the “read more” button to read your entire response. Thanks for the info 😃

Please be safe

It’s just as beautiful, quieter,
and is way less touristy with a much more community feel and, the streets are way safer to navigate.
@@RetiredLifeMexico we are farmers in Saskatchewan Canada so only go for a 2 week holiday. We’ve been on walking food tours, go to markets, take the local bus to La Cruz and Sayulita, go on hikes, walk the beach and look for seaglass.
That's wonderful! It is so fun to be able to visit for a couple of weeks and be on holiday. As people who are living here, we are not on holiday so we have really worked on finding friends and community to bond with. It's a different take on enjoying Mexico. Thanks again for commenting. Have you visited Puerto Vallarta? We finally were able to get our relatives who love Bucerias to come visit us last time they were here! They said they enjoyed it. :)
