@@NiklasMJ Jedi Order rose their younglings in lies is indoctrination. Jedi's were made fanatics from their youngest age. Jedi were to be stupid and obedient to their council, not thinking by themselves. They were supposed to work like hive that has it's mind located in the council. There are only few mentions of Jedi Librarian's, because there were few of them. Isolated in their libraries, not making much of appearance, who most of time isolated "dungerous" knowledge from jedi both young and old. It was obvious to me that Jedi where not going to ever listen to sith or ex-sith. As we can see in this scene, Jedi were not thought to listen, but to despise everything that stands in opposition to them. As we see by Ashoka's behaviour, she was listening until the one part she simply dissaproved with. The moment he mentions Anakin, she breaks the negotiations and pulls out her weapon. Jedi were certainly much more pure in believes but in practice, no better than most Sith Orders, but just using the light Side. All of these precautions for Jedi to never open their eyes to anything not approved by the council, is as we see what stopped them from fully defeating Sidious. I love the fact how when he says “it already has and you just can’t see it!” Is literally because throughout the series you see Palpatine deregulating the banks, militarizing the republic, producing more clones, and extending his power all in the background and also the gradual shift from the republic style architecture to imperial style and all this can go unnoticed if you aren’t paying attention.
    To add to this:
All of this highlights the deconstruction of Democracy and how it doesn’t happen all at once but slowly and gradually over time and you don’t realize it in the moment but only in hindsight after the fact

VERY true. In Season 3, there is an arc where the Senate is voting for a bill. This bill would be used to fund more Clone Troopers. Padme is making a speech about how the health and education of their citizens is being neglected because of the war.
That is how they were being treated in the Empire. That is why they rebelled. Yet those problems were there before the Empire was even born.
The Empire essentially was born out of a false sense of security and protection from another Clone War, but the only thing that changed was the replacement of Jedi.

And it would be so interesting to see Maul actually try to change for the better, realize his mistakes and try to become better for the sake of his brother's memory and create a new future, finally make a choice about himself that was denied to him when Sidious took him under his wing. Two previous pupils to their masters who each represented each side of the Force, both bringing balance to the Force by first bringing balance to themselves. Then you had books like Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter which expanded his character quite a bit, and later Maul: Lockdown. And lastly, without the fans thinking Darth Maul was a cool character, they probably would have never brought him back at all. What’s sad is, in a normal story, Maul would’ve been lying about Anakin going to the dark side to trick Ahsoka, which is exactly what she thinks he’s doing. But it’s clear that he’s telling the truth, and while killing Anakin is still a very dark and terrible in nature, (which Maul’s connection to the Dark Side would probably lead him towards) Maul justifies it by “depriving Sidious of his prized pupil.” He’s trying to prevent Darth Vader existing and plunging the galaxy even more into Sidious’ control.

@@filmnationstudios389 In a straight duel? Almost certainly. Anakin was likely the single most powerful Jedi at this point in time, even considering that he does lose to Obi-wan in Revenge of the Sith. He lost there because of his emotions taking control of him. Even then he's at the very least Kenobi's equal. But on the other hand even though we see Maul fall to his own pride time and again, I think this is the one time things would have been different. He knows that Anakin has been groomed by Sidious, he knows his power, he sees what he'll go on to do. For once I think that Maul wouldn't have underestimated him, and besides that I think he would have considered what needed to be done far more important.
Maul probably wouldn't have given Anakin a chance at a fair fight like he did with Ahsoka. He didn't want Anakin on his side like he did with her, he just wanted to make sure that he couldn't possibly get in the way of taking down Sidious, so he'd have no reason to give him a chance.

I love how desperate Maul is in this moment. Right from the start, when he reminds Ahsoka of how she was cast out of the Jedi Order, she objects by noting that she resigned of her own volition, and Maul visibly scrambles to pull together an argument about how her motivations for doing so in an effort to highlight their similarities as Force wielders rejected by their respective orders. He nearly screams at her for not realizing that the Republic is only days away from falling and Sidious getting his empire, trying to make her understand the stakes of this situation before it's too late to meaningfully act.
And despite his panic, he does actually convince her to join him, which is another aspect of the writing I like. If Maul hadn't mentioned his goal to kill Anakin, Ahsoka might have joined in him against Sidious, an allegiance of two individuals, neither Jedi nor Sith, deciding to take action against the one man who plotted to fulfill his desires for galactic domination. It's a brilliant way to deconstruct the morality of Star Wars by succinctly summarizing the failings of the Order and the importance of cooperating with those of the dark side in order to stop an even greater evil, honestly up there with KOTOR 2. And it's also shown in how the two of them ultimately differ on the issue of Anakin: Maul has no attachments to individuals anymore, while Ahsoka does, an inverse of the teachings of both organizations. Therein lies the tragedy of this scene: if Ahsoka lacked such an attachment to Anakin, then maybe history would have turned out differently, but unfortunately, she believed too strongly in the infallibility of the man who would go on to damn the galaxy.

Darth Maul has an amazing development as character and this scene shows it 200%.

Maul: "He is the key to everything..." (deep breath in between, lowering his hand towards Ashoka, emphasizing in the word "everything") and "To destroy..." (with a small pause showing again emphasis to the word). Ashoka is still not aware of this even if she left the Jedi order. I can see Maul's confusion, I guess he would expect Ashoka to be aware of this being more "open-minded".

Perhaps the best written, best acted, best directed scene in all of Star Wars.
First things first, aside from Ashley's performance, which is among her very best in the show (not quite the best, that goes to the tunnel scene in S5), Sam Witwer delivers what may very well be not only the best acting in this entire saga (yes, that includes James Earl Jones, Ian McDiarmid and Adam Driver), but the best voice acting I've ever seen period, and this episode alone is emmy-worthy for the actor at play.
Furthermore, the conflict is excellent, and the fact that they manage to write some of the most compelling dialogue in Star Wars between two characters that hadn't even met prior to this arc is more than noteworthy, and that's because of the focus being entirely on Sidious and Anakin, who are the true main players of this entire event that's about to shock the galaxy to its core. It's so beyond terrifying and hard to accept that Maul is and will be right about Anakin, and it's so touching to see Ahsoka defending her master, her brother's honor, even when there's a part of her that knows his enemy is right, and it's so interesting to see how she, for the briefest moment, actually accepts Maul's request, in the slight hope that he could be the Jedi's own key to everything. And God, the last line is such an instantly iconic statement.
"I see the padawan needs one last lesson" (I love you Sam)
Moreover we can call attention to the long shots that eerily linger on the characters and the locations, especially the wide shot of the window. There's also little details like the big explosion at 2:20 in Ahsoka's side, highlighting her indecision, as well as the glass breaking afterwards in order to represent the tension being broken by her answer (mainly because it looks cool as shit I suppose), and also the breaking of the 30 degree rule at 3:25 with the means to tell us to go fuck ourselves by showing that they don't need fluidity to make this moment impactful (also the cut is somehow impactful in its own right).
In essence, this is it. This is, in my opinion, the best scene to come out of Star Wars since... ever. There is not a single scene in this saga as flawless as this one, at least in my eyes. The acting, cinematography, directing and writing is at all times impeccable, and it's my personal favorite scene, from my personal favorite episode, of one of my favorite shows of all time. Thank you Dave Filoni, Ashley Eckstein, Sam Witwer, Ray Park, Lauren Mary Kim, and all the other talented people that made this finale and this show the best thing to come out of the Star Wars franchise.

Maul and Fives are two of the most tragic characters in all Star Wars. They came SO CLOSE to exposing Palpatine’s masterplan and saving the whole damn galaxy. Maul especially was the last gasp chance for the Jedi to survive and even managed to get Ashoka to agree for a moment but then her blindness to Anakin’s fate ruined it all.

At 1:24, With that brief rising in his octave and the way his voice gets rougher at times with this little monologue, a stark contrast to how smooth, calculated and almost Dulcet his voice normally is when he speaks, you can tell that Ahsoka's statement and the fact that she honestly meant every word of it kinda unnerved and annoyed him. Like, it's honestly gotta be pretty frustrating for Maul that legit nobody else can see the corruption and manipulation of Sideous in the Republic as clearly as he can. For Maul, it's obvious, but it's easy for us to understand how it wouldn't be for the Jedi and even one who's left the order and formed her own opinions of it like Ahsoka. She might not trust in the Jedi Order anymore... But she DOES trust in the Republic. Unfortunately though, the both of them are one in the same, which is why in the events of RoTS and order 66, it wouldn't be wrong to say that Both the Order and the Republic died Violent deaths together.
Maul saw it all coming. It's hard to say in this scene if he was doing what he did and saying all of this stuff to Manipulate Ahsoka or if he Genuinely wanted her to Join him. He speaks softly to her at points, he holds out his hand to her and seemed almost relieved when she said she would but only had one question. Dude wants just *somebody* on his side so badly...

Kenobi: “Before you and I finish what we started on Naboo years ago, answer me one question.”
Maul: “Feel free to ask, my old foe.”
Kenobi: “What do you want with my former Padawan, Anakin Skywalker?”
Maul: “You don’t know? Skywalker was your student for ten years, and you never learned the truth? He is the key...to everything.”
Kenobi: “So you know of the prophecy. That Anakin is the Chosen One destined to bring balance to the Force.”
Maul: “To destroy that balance. He has long been groomed for his role as my master’s new apprentice.”
    Kenobi: “You lie.”
Maul: “Many things I have done to hurt you, Kenobi, but never have I lied to you. In fact, I was so certain of his fate that I orchestrated this war to lure both you and Skywalker here. So that I could kill your Jedi companion. Thus, depriving Sidious of his prized pupil.”

I really hope one day someone will make alternate timeline series where Maul and Ahsoka team up along with Rex and they go on wacky adventures around the galaxy in order to bring down the Empire. It could also provide some interesting character development for both Ahsoka and Maul and both of them could start learning from each other. Ahsoka filled with anger and frustration over Anakin's betrayal could start to tap into the Dark Side, but at the same time wouldn't lose herself in it, while Maul would find in this mission a new purpose and maybe even he would start to open up to the light side, possibly being filled with regret over his brother's death who died for his endless ambition and need for revenge, making him at some point want to change for the better. That way both Ahsoka and Maul would reach perfect balance, learning from both Light and Dark, eventually leading to them possibly together bringing back balance to the force itself. Two students of great masters who left their respective order and learned the true balance. This is PERFECT.

It was probably too late already, but if only Ahsoka would have listened to Maul and joined forces, they might have stood a chance. A disgraced Jedi and disgraced Sith could have made the difference. When Jedi and Sith unite against a certain evil, they are generally unstoppable. Light & Dark meshed together is SO powerful. We'll never know.
