Just pulled the trigger on one - I ride an XSR700, love it, but want to keep it for best, and so the Duke will take on the winter commuting duties. Cheap to run/insure, I like singles, and smaller/lighter bikes for through London traffic. Great review Yammie, thanks.
how do you compare the riding dynamics and performance? Obviously, the XSR700 is a bigger bike, faster, etc. Do you feel wanting for more while on the 390? I suspect for inner city riding, it's plenty enough...thanks much
hey! I'm interested in the same thing. Actually these two are on my list too, but will only buy one. I'll never go over 130, but we have some great mountain twisties around and that's why I want one. Love the XSR700 look, but the 390 feels like a better choice for the tight corners

I have a rapidbike Evo and their quickshifter on my Duke 390 with a 14 tooth front sprocket. It really wakes up the motor. Surprisingly so far it's only really lean in the low to midrange (looking at the autotune results on the laptop). I haven't put a ton of miles on the bike yet with the rapidbike so that may change. 👍✊
I tried to recommend the duke 390 to a female beginner biker friend of me. It'll be to slow she said. It's to small she said. haahha. But my gf got one and loves it. I love the 390 too, although I can ride anything. Best regards from Germany.
I have 2019 model for 2 months now. This is an awesome bike for this price range. One thing I will mention that it vibrates because it is single cylinder bike. My friend got mt03. If youbare a commuter and don't wanna try stunning, get mt03. It is more comfortable and refined.

Hey dood they updated a few things for MY 2017+ Front brake rotor increased from 300 to 320mm, LED headlight with 'split' design and rewire, ride by wire throttle, larger gas tank, and clutch and brake levers are now manually adjustable
I'm 6'4" (194cm) tall and I'm comfortable on this bike. If I ride for like 2+ hours then I might start to cramp in my leg but overall it's fine. Not ideal but certainly good enough.

Hi mam, love your content! I was wondering if have You heard about Benelli Leoncino Trail 500? If you had a chance to lay your hands on one of these i would love to hear your opinion!
Still MAF about my Duke 390. I bought a brand new 2016 Duke 390 in 2016 and it lasted me about 8 months before critical failure. I had about 8k miles on it and had followed the break in maint schedule. When I was coming back from a Hill country trip, I noticed the bike was overheating very badly, and I lost most of my power. I limped the bike home, which took forever, and then I had it delivered to the shop that I bought it at. I asked them to put on a new rear tire, perform the next maintenance, and see what was going on with the engine. I told them the symptoms and whatnot and they said they'd check it out. I came back 2 weeks later, after they said that they had finished working on the bike. I think I paid just over 400 bucks which didn't sound too bad at the time. I asked them about the overheating issue, and they said that they took care of it, and it wasn't a big deal. When I took it out on the road, the overheat light came on in less than 2 miles. I took the bike back to the dealer, and they basically told me they can work on it for a higher than usual rate, but that this was not going to be covered under warranty. I wound up trading to get out of it.
I'm wondering if the blinking tachometer is due to the bike not having hit its first service at 600 miles. I remember my 2018 doing something similar, once the service was done, it didn't flash at me anymore.
@@inova24 Yes it's the shift indicator, but it does come on early (@ 6500 rpm) during the bike's first 1,000 km/600 miles. After that you can set however you want.
Hi Yammie. I've just purchased the same bike and waiting for delivery. Crazy as i ride a bmw k1200rs 😆 too but wanted a small cool bike. Great vlog mate
God I want to get a duke or rc so bad but I just can't really justify with the looming fear of engine problems/failure. I'm not one that bashes or has an opinion about things unless I've owned them, but it seems that it's a flip of the coin of "the bike has been running for 15,000 miles and no problems" or "I drove it out of the dealer and the whole bike exploded".
I haven't heard of any major engine issues with the newer 390 dukes. I think they used to overheat but KTM stuck a loud fan beneath the radiator. Seems to do the trick.
yeah the older small engined dukes and rc's (200, 250 and 390) had lots of issues. there were a lot more problems than just overheating, i hope ktm fixed everything in the new models

@@MrMarcee , I've go the Svartpilen 401 (same engine and frame as KTM Duke 390) and love it! so good for inner city riding as it's so light and flickable. The power to weight ratio on this little single is insane. I can get up to 80kph in blink of eye....any faster, I'd be risking my licence in inner city riding.
If 390 cc is small then my 150cc is just a speck of dust XF
150 is alot better than a grom.
Love the Duke and your channel... But you don't do giveaways outside the US :(
Kartik Kesharwani I wish it was to Canada as well

@IdahotoPI thank india that ktm is alive and thriving.

watch Twist of the Wirst 2
it makes one understand Riding efficient and Safety too at some parts. Yammie always recommends it
Definitely worth the wait
Oh man, I can't believe I have to wait another year to get this little thing! It's absolutely killing me..
I was so sad when you first revealed that you're giving away this thing, since you don't get them out to Canada. But I will get it, one day, one day...
Something i learned after a while of riding the 390 duke is that dropping a gear is almost always the answer, not pulling at 60 in 5th, drop to 4th. Revs go high but it will pull
I love my 390 duke more as each day passes 😍
I bought this Bike today..!!! I hope I’ll have a good time with it!
Well?
howd it go
Idk if u will respond but are you still using/enjoying it?
@@LordOfWaffles32 Yeah I already made 6000km on this bike and I love this bike only what this bike need is small mirrors plate bracket levers and exhaust
This is a begginer bike? Here in my country you are bad ass if you are riding those. Lols
Yup🤣🤣🤣
I tried to recommend the duke 390 to a female beginner biker friend of me. It'll be to slow she said. It's to small she said. haahha. But my gf got one and loves it. I love the 390 too, although I can ride anything. Best regards from Germany.
you ever been on a 600 or 1000cc supersport? If you do you will see this as a begginer ;D
@@nikolodj i dont even have a bike lols. But i love watching these vids

I have 2019 model for 2 months now. This is an awesome bike for this price range. One thing I will mention that it vibrates because it is single cylinder bike. My friend got mt03. If youbare a commuter and don't wanna try stunning, get mt03. It is more comfortable and refined.
I started rolling out a bunch of content on my channel for my Duke 390. Just cant stop ordering mods for it. Such an excellent bike.
Everytime he says the duke is tiny.. Always hurts coz im a short guy 😂 and in our country this motorcycle is considered a big bike hahaha
More power yammsterman!
I'm a euro bro and an A1 rider. I got the 125 version of that bike and I think its great, really stoked to upgrade to a bigger engine bike like the 390 :)
Sebbe Difrakhsh Me too
I wish we could get 125s in the US, especially the Aprilia
This is what I’m after as my work run around and funbike .
Papa Yam answered my request!!! Now we need more 390 Duke!! I would like to know upgrades if you plan on keeping more than 2 years. Also the Yoshimura vs Akrapovic slip ons for this would be great too. Thank you Papa Yam!!
Akrapovič is the best
The bike I'd use to get all my friends into bikes...so they all buy bikes!
the previous generation was my first bike. Great beginner bike tops out at around 112 mph and can do 75 all day.
My dream bike for sure, I’m a new rider and bought a grom clone and 190 swapped it. I absolutely love the duke. It’s by far my favorite bike. I’d enter to win but I never win anything. I’ll own one of these someday for sure. I don’t need to go 160 mph plus now a days.
A long awaited one... thanks a lot man...!
Praise the lord, Rossi of busas 🙏🏻

Hey dood they updated a few things for MY 2017+
Front brake rotor increased from 300 to 320mm, LED headlight with 'split' design and rewire, ride by wire throttle, larger gas tank, and clutch and brake levers are now manually adjustable

I'm 6'4" (194cm) tall and I'm comfortable on this bike. If I ride for like 2+ hours then I might start to cramp in my leg but overall it's fine. Not ideal but certainly good enough.
I've been saying it all along! This bike is badass!
If turning the abs off is what you want in a small displacement, this is your bike.. if you dont care about turning the abs off, the z400 is a way better package
Just got that bike about a month ago love it 👍🇺🇸
Had it for two months! I absolutely love my 2022 duke and no i have not ourgrown it yet and i dont think i will!
gonna buy the 2020 duke 390 in may 😃
that version even comes with a bi-directional quick shifter with a more refined engine
The quickshifter does not work properly bro. No physical sensor. Don't know how they managed it. But it don't work as expected
@@YT_SOURAV. yeah i had a talk with a friend who owns the adv390, he said the same thing about his quickshifter but he also said that he had an update to his software yesterday and now its working smoother then ever
so fingers crossed !
It needs a tail tidy and bar end mirrors.
Naw, would spoil it
The stock mirrors look like bug antennae. Was the first thing I changed on mine
It totally gives it a cleaner look. The rear fender is hideous and mirrors do look like antennas.
@@bhaddock9277 That "rear fender" looks fucking hideous. @Jimmy Torello is 100% correct.
@@DenvarShay rok bagaros out of Austria makes the best tail tidy available for this bike. For about $160 you get a really well designed tidy that leaves no wires exposed to get dirty or damaged.
I learned on a 94' CBR 600 F2. Wish the 390 Duke was my first bike, because it's a lot more manageable for a beinner when it comes to power/weight/handling...etc. It's scary to push a 27-year-old CBR 600 to it's limits when you are new. Don't get me wrong, it's an excellent sports bike, but it demands its share of respect in return when it comes to throttle input...
In India, if you have KTM Duke 390 you are the boss. This ain't a beginner bike here 🤣🤣🤣
wait did yammie do a wheelie intentionally ? I must be dreaming, someone slap me
of course he can its gonna be give away bike so why would he risk doing unnecessary stuff like that, not to mention even pros fallsalll the time smh!
This is the bike I'm looking at as my first street bike! I love the look of it, its just so sexy. The exposed frame is just so good looking, the only thing I dislike is the MASSIVE tail on it, but that will be my first mod I'll be putting one of those tail eliminators on there.
Get the rok bagaros one
What about over heating Issues im on the fence on this ktm duke because of that issue ..i dont know if they’d fix it on the newer version
Papa Yam, I'm taking possession of a 2020 Duke 390 this Wednesday. Do you have any particular way you break in your bikes, or just avoid full ripping on them for first 500 miles?
Ride it. Let it see all ranges. My 17 has 11k with no issues. Thats what my shop said
Did...did I just witness our papa yam pop an ittie bittie wheelie? OMG let me mark this day in my calendar for I have witnessed history being made.
The more experience you got riding the more you understand it's not the power that makes a rewarding ride, it's more fun ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow 😊
You should ride the older Duke 390, the power on the older one is insane, new one lost its grunt after the new emission norms
I was getting grown up Grom feels from this lol
i got one in 2017, then got a 1290sdr a year later with the intention of selling the little one. when i saw the sheer amount of power and what a waste it was in my hands, how much it cost me to insure, maintaijn ad fill up... i kept them both for a year (one as a commuter and the other as a toy) then sold the 1290 and i'm still having fun the little thing. i even got side bags for it and took it for weekends like 300km out of town. amazing bike. thinking about getting a 690 duke used cause i like the single and the ergo so much
omg upshift already, that shift light constantly flashing is bugging me so much
its not really like that its the LED and camera not working together.
I've been looking at a light naked style bike. (200-300cc) And I have been drooling at a KTM Duke 390 for about a week now. 😭
I really need to get going with my license.. I'm definitely getting myself a used Duke! Especially after what you've said about it now.
I'm 5' 9", and I tried a 24 KTM Duke 390 and felt like I was so crunched up that even at my short height, I thought there was no way anyone that was taller than me would enjoy this bike at all.
I am a long time subscriber of Yammie and I really love watching his contents, I love bikes but unfortunately I don't own one. I hope I could own one of this great bikes in the philippines someday.
Same
320 mm front disc , 300 is the old 390 ...
Don't know about your country but here in India it's 320 mm front with Brembo sintered front disc pad
Great review, thanks Yamm! Finished my MSF at the end of February, and am looking to buy a Husqvarna Svartpilen or Vitpilen 401 (The dressed up Duke 390). Can't find one in DFW to sit on to solidify my decision. Any thoughts on those bikes? Maybe that will be the mystery bike for comparison 🤓
Hi mam, love your content!
I was wondering if have You heard about Benelli Leoncino Trail 500? If you had a chance to lay your hands on one of these i would love to hear your opinion!
I test rode one a few weeks ago, only the crap trade in price stopped me buying it🤣🤣🤣
I love this bike. First thing i would change are the mirrors. Those fat rods look ridiculous
In my opinion this is the best 300 to 400 cc bike but so many people are reporting over heating or loud fan noise issues...
That Hayabusa song had me 😆😆😆
That silver Hyundai had some serious dings in the boot lid
*Pro* *tip* : Swap mirrors with Bajaj Dominar 400 mirrors for better and good looking .
The last generation 390 dukes were plagued by that overheating issue it seems.
Perfect, small commuter bike. You do not need 100 horsepower.
I like the looks on the duke 390 sooo much, but 390cc is just not enough for me 😪😪
Looks way better then the 690 and 790 imo
not enough what
@@sketch1775 his tiny pp means that 100 mph isn't good enough
It’s not beginner bike bro, it should be 2nd or 3rd bike in lower cc
It pulls like hell, king of hills
Looks like such a fun bike
like just for 'don't ever push on a road you don't know', great review! This bike and huskies seems like what BMW's should be like but they aren't!
I'm wondering if the blinking tachometer is due to the bike not having hit its first service at 600 miles. I remember my 2018 doing something similar, once the service was done, it didn't flash at me anymore.
It's actually the shift indicator

Had to recolour my chasis as it started fading away.
Changed the whole ride by wire and accelerator kit twice.

Just bought this bike today. Doing my endorsement next week
Maybe this is a dumb question but, why doesnt KTM have different color options?
4 colours in my country.
I actually love the look of those bikes, my first bike which is my current is a csc mustang, it’s a small bike only 150cc but one dash would love to have a super moto.
In India we get a 320mm front disc and quick shifter with auto blipper for both upshift and down shift
ohh boi the bike im aimming for finally being reviewed
What would you rather have. A new Duke 390 or a 2015 MT 07?
