    My usp 9 fell in the dirt and debris got into the control lever( safety/decocker) and it caused the lever not to work, when I called HK the rep asked " how do you know that its broken" and I replied that the lever goes all the way around and doesn't do anything. I sent it in and in a short two to three weeks it was back. The cool thing was HK replaced the night sights and repaired the broken control lever and sent the usp back all at no charge...

    When I was first sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff nearly 20 years ago I was issued a H&K USP 45. I have never been much of a fan of the DA/SA auto pistols, but I was impressed by this gun. Though I switched to a 1911 handgun for a while, when my department made the transition from the H&K to Glock, I bought my USP (with the nickel finish that is no longer available.) Once I switched to the LEM trigger in my USP it became about a perfect pistol and is often found with me when I'm traveling.

    This is one a lot of us wanted to see, thanks MAC. I was expecting a flawless performance from the USP. Didn't quite get it but it fared very well, second only to the AREX, which I don't think it'll be matched at this point. That does it for my old school favorites (USP, 92FS, Glock 17), but I'd still like to see a CZ75 and 1911 test. I'm not really a fan of the newer school HKs like the P30/HK45, but I'm wondering if they'll fare nearly as well as the USP. I view the P30 as the USP successor, we all know the VP9 sure as hell ain't.

    • @azores15

      I like the P30. It's one of the few guns that just seems to aims itself, for me, when I put it at eye level. I made the mistake of getting one with the LEM trigger. I traded it for a VP40 (bad trade), but I would like to get another one that's DA/SA.

    • @azores15
      @azores15 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Affirmative, Maximus. Mine was the V2 (heavy LEM). The trigger was heavy enough to affect my ability to shoot the gun accurately. Plus, it just wasn't enjoyable to repeatedly pull such a stiff trigger. As a result, I ended up hating a gun I should have loved. I doubt I'll ever get another one; they cost a thousand dollars anywhere that's willing to order one for you, and the big box stores that sell them for seven hundred seem to only have the V2's.

      I’m willing to bet the P30 will perform as well if not better than the USP. The sample size is not large enough for even the USP. That is, I believe the USP could very well perform flawlessly on The Gauntlet. My GTWGs would be any HK hammer-fired pistol, preferably the USP9c or P30.

  • @Berserkable
    @Berserkable 7 ปีที่แล้ว +47

    In my opinion, after going back and watching the Arex test, this test seems more impressive. The Arex didn’t have nearly as much mud stuck on it as the USP did and the USP still locked open. He also didn’t throw sand dirt and mud over the gun and basically completely submerge it as he does with the USP. Just my opinion. Or is there another Arex gauntlet I didn’t see?

    • @Phoenix-214
      @Phoenix-214 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well, the AREX also fired a full thousand rounds in rapid succession with Battleborn lubrication and didn't malfunction once. The slide was over 200 F at the end of it and it still worked. The trigger was I think 170 F, which is a few degrees more than what's necessary to kill flesh on contact. (Obviously, thick gloves were involved in this test.) So while the Gauntlet wasn't repeated, the AREX proved itself in other ways afterwards, if that helps.

    • @Berserkable
      @Berserkable 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Phoenix 731 So have 1911s. The HK45 went 50,000 rounds with like 1 or 2 malfunctions only being cleaned every 4K or something and at one point went like 12k without cleaning at one point. It’s on pistol training website. It’s pretty interesting. I think the USP could do the same as the Arex honestly.

    • @Phoenix-214
      @Phoenix-214 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 50,000 round test took months, however, and I should note it wasn't smooth save for a couple of malfunctions: It experienced some parts breakage, too, although it continued to fire even with the damage. When I say the AREX fired a thousand rounds in rapid succession, I mean in something approaching the space of about 14 minutes or so. I wouldn't be surprised if it _could_ do it, but that's not the sort of abuse I'd place bets on a typical, non-megabuck 1911 shrugging off save possibly if you're lucky enough to get ahold of an old original milsurp which is in good condition, and even then, I wouldn't be so sure: The Colt Series 80 1911 the Military Arms Channel tested completely choked and they weren't even able to finish. Sure, it's not an old GI-issue model, but it _is_ still a Colt, at least, and I would expect somewhat similar performance.

    • @Berserkable
      @Berserkable 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Phoenix 731 I believe the Colt would have done better with Wilson mags. First thing I did with my Colt was throw away the stock mags. They were labeled as 8 rounders and I could barely get 6 in em. 3300 rounds with 1 FTE somewhere around 2900. Now obviously those 3000 rounds were over a period of time but it’s gotten dirty and have been reliable. Also these 1000 round tests still don’t really prove anything since no one realistically will need to fire 1000 rounds in quick succession. I’m sure the Arex is a great gun. I just don’t have an interest in it after owning my 226. Just didn’t like the overall feel.

    • @Phoenix-214
      @Phoenix-214 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would've caused the handgun to malfunction somewhat less, but what caused the test to completely fall apart was the gun itself simply locking up and refusing to go back into battery, and it consistently malfunctioned upon contact with the dirt up to that point. Mags won't fix that. It failed because of severe dirt ingress in the handgun itself. I'm not tryin' to sell ya on the AREX or anything, I'm just pointing out that the 1911 is a century-old design and it's showing its age. I'm sure that a custom-made, modernized, and of course quite expensive 1911 can still kick ass and chew tobacco, but how practical a choice would it be, especially for a service pistol? The AREX is about $600, which is a pretty decent price for what it can do, and many even cheaper polymer striker-fired handguns in that test choked considerably less. However, I _do_ agree that the USP and the HK45 are kickass handguns and could definitely handle themselves quite well in adverse conditions. A 1,000 round meltdown test would be interesting to try with them. Sure, it wouldn't be realistic, but frankly, neither is intentionally dunking a handgun into all of these elements, either. The idea is "Shit happens in a warzone/zombie apocalypse, so let's have some fun and see what happens when it does."

      He should. And talk about how stupid they are, that they should ban them, at least to give the dems a win so they will leave us alone for a while. Let's be honest as gun owners guys, the bump stock can go and it would be OK.

      Dead on the money bro. Couldn't have said it better myself. The left and liberal hollywood will ALWAYS be preying on our 2nd Amendment rights. Can't trust any politicians any farther than you could throw them, including some in the NRA . I've had my reservations about joining the NRA for years, and never could come to terms with giving them my money for what little they do for us.These knee jerk-gun grab reactions by the left are typical, and really sickening seeing them use tragedy as a platform to legislate based on the feelings the of victims. Truly disgusting.

    Between the HK45 USP and the CZ-97B I would absolutely trust my life with that in my hands to defend what I love. When I looked I wanted reliability, and utility. HK has that option over CZ. This right here solidifies my reason why I would chose this platform. Awesome video!

    Awesome performance!!! My theory is most .40's would do well due to the high pressure and recoil but....some crazy people think .40's suck

  • @gr8momba
    @gr8momba 7 ปีที่แล้ว +58

    Do you think being a 45 it has more power to knock the crap off? Mostly it seems like 9mm is the go to round when you test?

    • @Militaryarmschannel
      @Militaryarmschannel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +52

      That's kind of something I touch upon in the video. I do believe the more brisk recoil may have contributed to the reliability, which if true, would be an interesting point.

    This started a marathon of me watching all the old tests again. I'm really curious how a decently well made 1911 would fair (Springfield TRP, Colt, etc.). I'm not surprised the USP did so well.

    • @mpow3r972
      @mpow3r972 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well from what I have been told by HK experts and armorers the hammer fired mechanism in the P30, P2000, HK45, HK45C, T, CT, et al. is essentially the USP mechanism in different sizes and configurations (DA/SA, LEM). The lockup, extractor, etc. on all of my pistols are almost identical as well. I own a few hammer fired HKs lol The USP in 45 Tactical and 9 Tactical, an early MARK 23 with the chrome lined barrel and original "SEAL" finish, a VP9, but the guns I enjoy the most are my P2000 V3 and P30 V3. The MARK 23 is my woods gun, where I run 45 super xtreme penetrators. The P2000 is the most underrated and under-promoted DA/SA carry gun on the market. Almost identical in size to the Glock 19, but more ergonomic, it's what I carry every day. The only thing it lacks in comparison to the Glock is 2 rounds in the magazine in 9mm. It was billed initially as a more ergonomic USP 9 Compact, and had things like ambi mag releases, slide releases and interchangeable grip panels well before it was all the rage. The P30 is simply the best out of the box duty sized hammer fired handgun on the market in my opinion, and I'm a big CZ fan too. The ergonomics are second to none, and the true ambidexterity of all HK pistols is unmatched. Oh, and they're reliable... As everyone can see.
