  • The S&W M&P had a very bad showing in our first reliability test so, based on user feedback, we decided to subject the M&P 2.0 9mm to the MAC Gauntlet test! How does the M&P 2.0 stack up to the original in our reliability torture test?

    FTE and FTF were likely magazine induced failures. If you breakdown the magazine, notice the follower. The follower is an anti-tilt follower that prevents rounds from nose-diving and one of the aspects of this useful implementation are the front and back follower protrusions that keep the follower level which also has the magazine follower and rounds moving mechanically upwards from spring like along a track. The dirt and grim fouling up this track movement likely is what causes the failure experienced. Usual TRB (Tap, rack, bang) malfunction drill performed will correct this as shown by Tim. The continued failures is presumably from dirty magazine as only the gun was cleaned off; notice that the magazine wasn't flushed with water like the gun after the elemental testing, none of the mags looks like they were flushed and all of them dirty. This is a common failure trait with magazines with anti-tilt followers and probably more apparent with guns like the older Berettas that either lack the magazine follower anti-tilt characteristic or have looser mechanical tolerances. You can also find this problem inherent with the M/AR platform with these types of followers and exasperated by issues with springs with either too much compression opposing strength like with new springs or too little strength from compression wear, another reason why a lot of those common FTE and FTF problems can be short-term, field-expedient fixed with magazine-based or magazine circulating malfunction drills. Lubrication is a short term field expedient fix until the magazine can be broken down and cleaned as the slide has a more positive movement flowing backwards with higher force either shaking the follower free or ejecting the shot round fast enough with enough force to also have the follower shear free upwards giving more weight to the common credence of well lubricated or having well lubricated firearms like these handguns or rifles like the M/AR platform. Just my opinion, of course, in lieu of proper scientific study.

    I noticed that S&W significantly lengthened the forward rails on the 2.0 vs. the original M&P. I wonder if this caused it to be more reliant on proper lubrication to function? Budget guns might not be the same thing but a close second is what they’re doing. And for that price which to be honest is a factor when it comes to a lot of new gun buyers is a major factor. For the price of a Glock pre COVID-19 $550 you could’ve gotten a Taurus G2C for around $250, good Kydex iwb holster for $30, and $30 for a value box of Remington 9mm 115 jhp and be good to go. The reason it did so poorly might have been because of the spring. The first batch of 2.0 fulls had really tight recoil springs and people were having serious trouble with underpowered reloaded ammo. I think that just that small amount of added friction is making the slide short stroke and causes the failures to feed.

      Stitch Hall whilst Glocks are a very good durable brand, I love my subcompact S&W MP 9 shield. Working as an armed guard, I love and prefer the subcompact as it’s very concealable, and with its smaller size and profile, it’s a great deterrent for someone whom may attempt a gun grab, I also love it since two of my security contacts consists of narrow hallways and small rooms/corridors which any long gun or full sized handgun could prove to be clunky per-se and limit your freedom of movement. 💯

    I just got mine on 23 Feb. 2033 in Central FL and I have to say I was very impressed with the pistol! Out of the box, it was very accurate and pleasant to shoot. I also have a Glock Model 45 (9mm) and a Kimber (the Shadow and yes it works) and a Taurus Commander 1911. But that being said, I think my new carry gun will be the S&W 40. I usually carry the 1911, but for now, it will be the S&W. The ammo is also very cheap - $15.00 a box of 50- and I also used Blazer Brass and aluminum (165 gr.) and both fed just fine. The brass was only $21 a box of 50. The Tier One training 180 gr. ammo is the $15.00 a box of 50. I also used Sig Sauer V-Crown JHP 180gr. That preformed very well. It all shot very well and had great accuracy every shot. And that was another for getting back into the .40 cal. was the ammo prices. Can't beat it. I really enjoy the videos, please keep them going. The S&W 40 was $699.00 before tax. Well worth it.

    If anyone is seriously hating any of these guns that he tests because they don't perform perfectly, you need to understand that very few civilians will actually use the weapon in those kind of conditions. Yes its cool to see how it performs with the harsh conditions but at the end of the day, keep your weapon in good condition and you will be fine almost 100% of the time

      Bredaxe Don't let Travis whatever see that. He'll tell you the 1911 is garbage and they rusted shut in Vietnam lmao. I love my 1911's but am far from a fanboy as I enjoy carrying it as well as my Sig's, and my new S&W M&P M2.0 FDE. But the 1911, whether it be a GI model, Sig Scorpion/ Emporer Scorpion or even a Springfield, they are great guns. I'm trying to get my hands on the ATI 1911 that has a polymer frame.

    • @Bredaxe
      @Bredaxe 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1stFallschirmjägerRgt I just bought a bob tailed Sig Emperor carry 1911. The thing is an absolute tac driver. I'd buy it again in a heart beat. It was the most expensive 1911 I have and feeds everything I've given it. Even those DRT rounds with the sharp edges, by the way, I highly recommend you try them. Check out TH-cam. A guy destroyed a hog through the shoulder and into the heart with one round. I will admit I use to be a 1911 hater, not because I hated the gun but the people that demanded it's the best firearm ever made, but that many hate on anything polymer. Ridiculous. I wanted one of those ATI's also but they went quick at that $450 price point. My next 1911 purchase will be the RIA in 10mm. 8 or 16 rounds for under a grand?! Give me two!

    • @chsims7032
      @chsims7032 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll probably have to wait on getting the Emporer Scorpion. I shot one and loved it. But when I saw a Sig Scorpion and an Emporer Scorpion next to each other at my local shop, and debated $899 vs $1100, I went for the $899 Scorpion new and it has been flawless as well as a tack driver so far. I'm not a fan of the stainless barrel, trigger and hammer, but at the $899 price I can't complain. I definitely want to get a threaded barrel for it when I get approval from the ATF for my .45 AAC Ti-Rant suppressor.

      @Keith Smash- Although I now will be able to carry concealed, legally- that would be a dumb and dangerous thing to do. Low I.Q. angry street criminals carry without holsters, no training whatsoever, and play head games with their guns- makes 'em feel powerful in a short life of unimportance. They brandish, shoot and kill people, sometimes for no reason, other than to establish street creds- primarily because they have no respect for Human life, and don't care who is in the way. Good people who carry, need TRAINING, and I cannot emphasize that enough. I will carry, but not until I have received plenty.

    I purchased a 2.0 full size 9mm from my local gun shop 3 days ago that is selling out and closing down do to flooding from hurricane florence. The gun sat under nasty swampy river water for at least 2or3 days. They took all the flooded handguns and dunked them in some type of motor oil or something and sold them half price. I took it out yesterday without cleaning the internals and to my surprise it fired 400 rds of pmc fmj and 50rds of Sig brand hollowpoints flawlessly. I also picked up a new colt 45 rail gun that didn't get flooded for 700 and a st** ton of ammo 75% off. They had over 500000 in inventory and basically gave it all away. I hate they lost it all its the only place I shop but damn I dropped 4grand in there this week on guns ammo and accessories. By the way all the guys that work there are huge fans of MAC! I've yet to find a video of yours I didn't like I especially enjoy the gauntlet videos.

    MAC maybe you should consider adding to the test some bone-dry pistol shooting. At the beginning of the test you get the pistol, clean it and strip it of all the lube it has from factory or previous use, and you run a few magazines in it to see if it runs well with no lube. Then you clean it, lube it and proceed with the elements test as usual. It would be interesting to see if some pistols need lube more than others!
