I have always been a belter and I'm 13. I attend a musical theatre school on a Saturday. I also have a singing teacher but she sings classical, she doesn't let me use my chest voice. My singing teacher, music teacher and most people at school, who don't do musical theatre, say that belting is bad for you. But I always say that some people are built to belt (I have a wide range in my chest voice) and that you just need to use the right techniques. So please can you do a singing video about musical theatre singing. Thank you, love your videos. Xx
Amelia Stanham shakiras music teacher told her she couldn't sing. Don't listen to other people. We don't all sing or sound identical. You should eventually find a different vocal coach who won't keep you in a box and help you try new things.
I REALLY APPRECIATE THIS VIDEO ALOT!!!! I have never been able to belt ever. I had that problem a lot, a tip try to do the hey thing and while doing it try to get your abs as tight as you can (do it often for like a week or two) and then it will just be muscle memories
I used to as well, just make your stomach real tight, take a deep breath, suck in your stomach and make it tight a little bit and just try singing some notes
How to use belly power: (Key tips before continuing: there should be no tension on the throat. Its all on the bottom of your butt. Push it down down down like youre taking the fattest shit of your life. Never release ab tension as long as youre singing) -imagine breathing with your feet -imagine youre inflating a swimming tube around your waist. Also inflate your lower back -imagine youre gonna carry a refrigerator 2x your size, add the "hmp!" that naturally goes with it -imagine the feeling of crying like a baby. Those things scream with their whole diaphragm. Have you heard of a baby that lost its voice from crying? Nope Finally how to actually use that in singing: Sing like an owl. Thank you for providing such great resources like this one! It's really helped me start getting to where I want to be.
Aw that cute little baby still makes me smile, probably 6 yrs old now? I watch this again and again for practice and I always smile when I hear the baby joining the practice 😁
It's awesome to see that you are actually teaching the correct techniques! I've never trusted TH-cam "voice teachers," but just came across this video. This includes a lot of what we talked about at the CCM Vocal Pedagogy Institue at Shenandoah University this past summer. And you're a great teacher - keep up the great work!
I struggle with this, I have always sung in my head voice (never even knew I was doing it until I got a lesson one day) and the coach who identified it said my head voice is near pitch perfect. Cool. BUT now I have learned how to sing in my chest register, but I can't go very high in chest before I have to switch to head, UNLESS I sing LOUD, I mean LOUD. Help?!
I have the logic that when you have sung all your life in head voice, this is your comfort zone. To get rid of this comfort zone you have to practice every week (even 2 or 3 times) and at first it is totally OK to be loud. For me, chest voice was loud like 2 years and then I could regulate it more easily... now it is very easy, it just needed some working out period.
This really helped me, I’ve been singing in a belt for around a year now and I have constantly had the problem of volume and control. This really really helped me out!
I'm in love 😍 learning how to improve my vocals from home with someone who obviously has an incredible voice, but a great personality, and is so easy on the eyes 🥰
+P3acexL0veScr1be It's not chest voice. Idina belts in mixed voice, which I you can almost think of a "naturally" twanged saturated head voice register

Your tongue might be too far back in your mouth causing turbulence at the back of your throat or even depressing the larynx. If you can phonate cleanly on other vowels, try moving from those to an ah and see if the tip or body of the tongue moves backwards. Ideally the tongue should be high and forward in the mouth for all vowels. Try an ee with the tip of the tongue behind the lower teeth. Then feel the middle of the tongue touching the upper teeth. Try to keep the middle and tip of the tongue in the same place while transitioning from ee to ah. Then see if you can belt an ah with that forward placement. P.S. It will feel really, really weird!
Why the hell is this so good It works so well I’m a classical singer but I love broadway so I’m used to hearing people belt incredible notes and I could never even closely reach them and if I tried my throat would hurt so thank you so so much 🌻
I had to laugh, I left your videos on play, I work as a 3D animator and was making a model of a belt for a character as this video started! Its a SIGN!!! :D
Thank you! I really want to learn to sing with a good tehcnique so I'm grateful for these lessons😊 And I'm really looking forward to hear your cover of Hello!! Stay well with Ashland and Peter ❤
my music teacher always said that singing is just a mind game and that you should always think that you are doing something right. although, not to a point where you just think you’re the best and there aren’t any negatives.
This was really good!! I've had voice lessons for about eight years, but my teacher is classically trained and hasn't wanted to teach me belting as she doesn't know how and don't want to damage my vocal chords!! I'm gonna try these tips once my throat is alright, I've been coughing really badly for over a week - which takes it's toll on my voice. You've definitely gained a new subscriber!! Not only can you sing, but you seem to know healthy techniques and you're so radiant and engaging when you talk☺️ your son is super cute too, haha!!
Off topic but you radiate such a positive vibe and I just can't stop looking at you. Also, thank you for the beautiful lesson. I will practice everyday ☺️

You just gotta sing through that. Pretend like it's not there. I do that when I'm sick
SAME OMIGOD I THOUGHT I WAS ALONE
Why the hell is this so good
It works so well
I’m a classical singer but I love broadway so I’m used to hearing people belt incredible notes and I could never even closely reach them and if I tried my throat would hurt so thank you so so much 🌻
Thank you Evynne, it was very helpful! Cheers from Brazil 🇧🇷🙂
This was excellent info and I adored the bit where Ash repeats you, very sweet.
P.S I have never seen a human being look so flawless. Stunner xx
Examples of belting would be helpful at the beginning of the video so we know what we are trying to achieve.
but is anyone gonna talk about how her eye make up, sweater and hair are perfectly balanced color wise? so good.
This video is a life changer for me! Thank you so much
I had to laugh, I left your videos on play, I work as a 3D animator and was making a model of a belt for a character as this video started! Its a SIGN!!! :D
I started shouting "hey", so my dog came over wanting attention. :D
UwU
Oh wow even just engaging your core adds so much support
I’m gonna sound insane going like HEY HEY HEY
It’s so cute the kid repeating after you hey hey 😂 4:07
Lmao Ariana Grande is gonna be screwed :P
HAAHHA I Came here destined to do that
Lmaoooooo!!!!! 👏😭😂
She has bad technique so she’s already screwed
She can belt but that isn’t her style
Crazy Krazy 🥳🙁😘🤨🙁🤨😒🤨😏🥰🤨😏😘🤨😏🙃😋🧐😘🤓🙃😛
This helped a lot thanks, more in-depth than most descriptions in terms of how you can use it practically!
Where's the ads? Im so grateful to get these knowledge for free❤️. I want to repay by playing the ads🥰
Practice 20 minutes a day, 2 hours impossible
Barrett: Excuse me?
I just want to be able to sing “all I wanted was youuuuuuuaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!”
YASSSSSSSS
This was really good!! I've had voice lessons for about eight years, but my teacher is classically trained and hasn't wanted to teach me belting as she doesn't know how and don't want to damage my vocal chords!! I'm gonna try these tips once my throat is alright, I've been coughing really badly for over a week - which takes it's toll on my voice. You've definitely gained a new subscriber!! Not only can you sing, but you seem to know healthy techniques and you're so radiant and engaging when you talk☺️ your son is super cute too, haha!!
emsova Yes! Musical theatre is the BEST for us natural belters!
I don't what's belting until this. Really help me in singing GREAT JOB🙆🏼♂️
Off topic but you radiate such a positive vibe and I just can't stop looking at you.
Also, thank you for the beautiful lesson. I will practice everyday ☺️
