Evynne, thanks so much for your vocal lessons! Moms like me who are currently caring for a toddler, and aren't able to attend music lessons, this is a real treat. I love your vocal exercise, singing Zeee-yah! My 21 month old daughter Zia loves it especially, since she thinks the song is about her : ) More power to you, and thanks again!
I'm trying out for my first musical, and I really needed this, so thank you! I'm doing Defying Gravity I think, maybe Belle or The Schuyler Sister maybe I'm still working on it....
You are the only youtuber I trust to help me warm up my elementary music students! All the others were either singing tight, nasally or had painful glottal stops! Thank you for setting the example for healthy singing that protects the voice long term. I made a warm up playlist for my students with only your videos. I watched about 20 other warm up videos for kids and they were all doing things with their voices that I would never want my students to imitate. I can't thank you enough! I'm also huge fan of you and your husband's music videos!
I have to compliment you on this warmup piece. I happened upon it when I needed some guidance for an audition, never having done a vocal audition before. I must tell you I was accepted into an operatic Chorus, and I credit your relaxation and chest voice warmups greatly! Thanks!
I’m going to follow this like crazy. I was a voice major in college. I just turned 59 and can barely sing anymore. I was diagnosed nosed - FINALLY! at 47 with tracheomalacia. I’ve apparently had it since birth. It causes me to cough violently when there is any change in air pressure, even getting the sniffles. This is because my trachea closes too much when exhaling. CPAP has helped the cough about 85%, which is tremendous, but that’s it. There is no cure and it is degenerative. Our niece is graduating from Westminster Choir College in 2021. She has some recording equipment and I have a piano with a 16 track recorder in it. Her major is theory and composition with a voice concentration and sings like an Angel. She writes too and I would really like to do some work with her. So thank you for making these specific videos. You have a beautiful voice. ❤️
Thank you so much, this is helping me a lot. I note a huge difference when you sing Zeeeah and when I do which helps me to improve. Greetings from Germany.
This takes me right back to choir warm-ups. I can still hear my director telling us, "Lift your palate ladies!" :) We did most of these, but instead of the zee-ah in the upper register, we did no-mah-no. I love seeing your videos! You and your family are so beautiful inside & out. :) xo
Love it - thanks a million! Will be adding these to my collection of warmups. Here's some fun ones (I'd credit only I can't remember where I learned them from now - it's been several years) that I use all the time too: "Many men" - to the tune of the William Tell Overture (as in "Many men, many men, many men men men") "How far is my car?" - Doh-So-Fah-Mi-Doh moving upwards one tone at a time. "Spa-ghe-tti-&-Ra-vi-o-li" - Chromatic downwards scales moving up keyboard (chest - head voice.
Hi Evynne! Really love your How to sing- videos!❤Your advices really works👏 I use them every time I practice. And I will continue with that😁 What I would love to have is all your vocal exercises in ONE video. More singing/ exercises, less talking. Now I use bits and parts from all the videos, and they are great!! But it would be so much easier to have them in one video, covering all the techniques you use.... and we could do them along with you😊 But anyway, thank you so much for your good advices and your lovely smile🌹
Both of your warm up videos are great! Please keep sharing these tips. Maybe even share some tips for getting past the nerves of performing and how to not let the nerves effect your voice. I have trouble with that.
Hi Evynne, I just wanted to say thank you for posting these! I’ve been trying to get my voice trained up, and despite having a lot of training, I tend to strain. Your technique is so great, even listening to you speak helps remind me to relax my throat! I don’t know if you ever reply on here, but I would love personally if you could go more into the lip flubs part of warming up? I have trouble getting tone, and remember years back someone telling me to make a rolled r sound instead. That doesn’t feel like the same kind of exercise at all, and I want to find that magic balance between tone and how much actual air should be moving. Anyway, you are SO BUSY and have little kids to take care of, so probably that video won’t happen, but in any case thanks again for being such an inspiring youtuber! I hope to imitate some of your awesome practices, not just in singing, but in your wonderful, upbeat attitude and in your career here on youtube. Thank you for the beautiful performances and sharing your wonderful self!! :D
That sliding warmup I sounded like a dying cat. 😝 my mixed range is where I am lacking the most and need the most work. What can I do to improve that area and also what keys are you playing so I can practice on my own? Thanks!
I love all your How to Sing videos! They truly help me sing better and you give a lot of good tips. You explain things better than other voice teachers.
I have just written to you on the mixed voice vid. I have now done the exercises in this one and love them because they are different to the ones on the other site I have used. I have been looking for something different! Many many thanks. This is so riveting!
Thanks, Evynne! I will try these as I try and get my voice back in shape after esophagus surgery. Right now I have chest and head voice tones, but no mid range.
love it that's for some tips :) I'm in my high school choir had we do warm ups similar to what u do on of our warm ups is sun is high the shadows fly the west Is clear and bright the morning calls that was up all behold the morning light.
I was a Sweet Adeline for about 7-ish years before other commitments (aka college) required me to leave the chorus I was in. This video was very nostalgic for me, because we used to do all of these warmups during practice. :)
I don't do any vocal warms up before i sing because i just sing karaoke in my room but if i ever did karaoke live i probably would my vocal range is a soprano so i can hit good high notes sometimes!
My 4 yo daughter wanted to watch this after the Tangled video, and after doing some warm ups she said "hey! My cheek is actually warming up! It's working! Wait, is that what warming up means?" Thanks for a fun morning entertainment and music education!
This was so helpful 😃 But I have a lot of trouble with the breathing part of it, I never take big enough breaths and when I do, it's kinda loud. Then I have a bad habit of either taking a breath, then immediately releasing it and singing, or I take a breath and hold it while I sing. I try not to, but it's just kind of a natural reaction my body has, so I was wondering if you could post a video on how to breathe better or give me some advice. Thanks, lysm ❤️
Thank you! These remind me of the warm ups I did years ago, but then forgot them. I'm really out of practice, would you happen to have some warm ups for lower male registers, too?
aah~ it's been so long since i've watched your videos (I will make up for it ;) ) but it's good to be back! btw! LOVE your shirt! It's so simple but nice!
Hello, I read that singing in the morning can be damaging and that the body needs about 3 hours before it is ready. I googled that when I hurt myself singing right when I got up, I was actually trying to belt. So what is your intake on that subject? You mentioned doing the warm-ups in the shower........I want to practice in the morning because this is "my time", when the kids are at school. So, what do you think?
We used to do something very simple - we did "Poppa had a head like a ping pong ball" which made sure we used lots of diction, it really worked when we did shows!
where did all the vlogs go?? i watched 2014 and then now 2015 there only 3???? please help me out where are they? did you stop?? i only find the lessons but nothing anymore????
Amazing as always Ev ! =D as i said to our Hollens Fam. a month ago i started going to singing classes =) my warm ups are pretty basics for now... but yours are kinda similar (and more complex versions) of some of mine =P aaaanyways... i would really love to see Peter in your channel doing a quick warm up and giving tips to us the males in the family since i cant hit those real high notes as you do xD maybe ***** has another tips and stuff for lower voices =D ^_^ aaanyways =D luv u ! sending my love to all 4 of you ! =D Happy singing ! =D #HollensFamily #VocalWarmUps
I'm not a singer, but if you're looking for helpful ways to warm up your vocals, then perhaps you should allow the gorgeous and talented ***** to coach you on that! :)
If the trill stops, it's because you don't have enough support and enough air...I never understood what the point of the trill, it's so obvious now! haha. Thanks :)
I HATE my mix voice lol I can go really low & really high, but when it comes to going from mid-high to high, it's like a 20 car pile up! That chest to head switch when climbing, SUCKS! 🤣
Awesome warmups Love!!
***** ^ that guy is awesome!
Thanks, good tips! I have trouble relaxing when I sing high.
SO appreciate this series. As someone looking to improve their voice and not knowing where to start, your videos are a lifesaver.

It would be fantastic to have a full sing along video. This moves way too quickly for absolute beginners.
My voice teacher used to teach me a lot of those :) some were new though
This was so helpful 😃 But I have a lot of trouble with the breathing part of it, I never take big enough breaths and when I do, it's kinda loud. This video was really interesting. We do one of the warmups in choir you did :)
Thank you! These remind me of the warm ups I did years ago, but then forgot them.
I'm really out of practice, would you happen to have some warm ups for lower male registers, too?

Omg me too!
Ooh! Cool!
My music teacher must follow you because she uses most of these :)
Most of these are pretty standard. My Chorus Teacher used alot of these warm ups long before this young lady was born. 😊

Lip trills are the best
Ever since I got laryngitis(got it twice) I'm not able to sing high notes I just sound hoarse whenever I try I went from a soprano 2 to Alto
I HATE my mix voice lol I can go really low & really high, but when it comes to going from mid-high to high, it's like a 20 car pile up! That chest to head switch when climbing, SUCKS! 🤣
