I have an 18’ Klamath, duel console with windshield, definitely rides better with2 or 3 people. 60 hp Yamaha, great on gas. Keep in on trailer at Atlantic Highlands. Prior owner trailer boat from Oregon to NJ
John...Great video. As a marine surveyor/CG Marine inspector for over 40 years I was convinced the only aluminum boats that belonged in salt water were the ones that were trailered. The damage salt water does to aluminum that is allowed to sit in it was often devastating. You need to come to North Kakalacky where the limit for flounder is no fish of any size for the foreseeable future. Of course there are times when fishing for speckled trout/redfish I've seen people catch the elusive "North Atlantic Halibut" that often ends up in a cooler!
Sometimes think you just have the midas touch John. Out of 91 fluke last Wednesday in the area, not one made it over the line. Love my welded aluminum, only wish I switched sooner.
Glad to see you catching keepers, I was out on 7/3 to the west of Mattituck and 40 shorts, 0 keepers. I guess I’ll head east next time. Nice drift education, Thanks .
Thanks for all the videos John. I was out this weekend off Ft. Salonga and there was a cinderworm spawn. They were everywhere. Any tips for fishing for fluke during this? Fished a good 8 hours with not much to show for it. Was I wasting my time. Bass all around me as well but I didn't bother throwing much at them as I never found success with those either during a hatch/spawn.
I'd try the little lure I used in the part of this video when I had bass on top feeding on tiny bait. I've not fished it in a cinder worm hatch, but the profile would be pretty close. th-cam.com/video/AYTga8nAp68/w-d-xo.html
@@JohnSkinnerFishing I get what you're saying but 98% of us will use seats while traveling, having lunch or just having break and just talking for a while but again I get your point
John, What do you think of Stabicraft boats? I have been looking at them for a few years now and was thinking of getting one I would not mind your opinion on them, they too are an aluminum made boat.
Great videos! You should know that I am a Skinner student. I understand that you say to always drift in the direction of the current. You also say to drift about 0.5-1.5 mph for fluke. My question is since I can’t put any trolling motor on my boat, If the current is going strong in a direction at , say 2.5 mph and the wind pushes in the opposite direction, slowing my boat to a 1.0 mph drift in the same direction as the current, would I still catch fluke just the same as if there were no wind and the current was moving the boat at 1 mph?
No. It would be terrible. Although your boat's drift speed would decrease a bit, your lines would scope way out with the current. It would be worse than having no wind.
John, I love your videos and I too have a welded. I would love to know how your partner mounted the electric motor on the boat. I would love to do the same thing to mine thank you very much.
Love to see these videos on aluminum, John. I've had a 23 Pacific since 2005. Practical, strong, and lots of deck space. Why do you think aluminum has never caught on here like the West Coast?
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Thanks. I’d love to have you out some time if you’re ever up in Massachusetts or Buzzards Bays. Your channel allowed my buddies and me to become actual fluke fishermen from accidental ones. Appreciate it.
Great video as always. When you are launching/retrieving your aluminum boat on one of these beaches on your own, how do you secure it when you are parking your car or backing the trailer in? Pull it all the way up on the beach or push it out and secure the anchor?

My friend has a Metal Shark that he keeps in the water on LI and in Florida with no apparent problems, but I understand the concern.
I have a 16 Klamath twin motor
It's 40 years old and still solid
Use it off central CA coast
Love the ride
Great hull
Great pointers on working the trolling motor and angle of the fishing line. That is one amazing boat.
It took me a long time to subdue my recurring boat envy syndrome. You’ve managed to reverse all my progress in one episode 😢. Sweet, sweet boat!
Good information concerning tide movement by using spot lock and watching the direction of line scope. Thanks
Another cool video. Trying to control the drift with wind against tide can be tricky sometimes
Thx for sharing - I enjoyed it 🙏🙏🙏
Nice catch - I have a 16’ / 2010 alumacraft - love alum. Boats !
God Bless 🇺🇸🙏🎣
I had my 18’ Lund Alaskan for 30 years, still going strong. I trailer all over NH & ME and use it in fresh and salt.
I had a 16-ft Lund for a long time. Great boat.

I wish mine was welded, but I love everything else about it.
Hi George. If you can reach out to me on SS or FB or email I can give you some more detail on this catch.
Great job sir
You are a very professional fisherman.
Columbia river style. Very cool.

if that doesn't tell you that you shouldn't be keeping striped bass, what else would you need?
@@Peter-zg3em Fluke fishing Peter, sorry for the confusion.
@@duffmeister6480 no that's my bad, i didn't realize the whole video was fluke. i just worry about our bass. have a good season tight lines
I caught over 20 shorties in the Chesapeake Bay last weekend and zero keepers.
Love the videos .
Hey John! Love the tips! Did u say poquonnock bay? Grew up in Groton, always trying to find a spot to bring my dad for flat fish.
This was Long Island Sound.

Cool boat but to me no boat should have only one seat they could of put a two person small bench instead on the one seat
Marine beanbags
I almost never sit on a boat. I'd be fine with no seats.
Youre one in a million then @JohnSkinnerFishing
@@JohnSkinnerFishing I get what you're saying but 98% of us will use seats while traveling, having lunch or just having break and just talking for a while but again I get your point
On my 16-ft tin boat people who want to sit can use the cooler or the forward platform. The same could be done on this boat.
what is the boat model John??!?!?! you didn't list it in the description!
Very cool little boat. Was this a recent trip? Haven’t seen you in a kayak in a while.

John I love your Videos. Watched every 1 of them. I live in Sound. Would you able share what’s the name of this ramp and where is it? Thank you.
If I guess ,it’s iron pier!
It is. You need a Riverhead permit and it's tricky with any waves and this is about as large a boat as I'd launch there.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Got it. Thank you John.

Everytime we see a Pacific on the water we go "Oooh - look at that". Really cool boats. No clue about the east coast/west coast thing.

Plz post a link to the aluminum boat. Thx
I can’t find a dealer anywhere outside of the NW region😬

That is the toughest time! I tie it as tight as possible, nose to the shore, with this: amzn.to/4cz8JT3.
Nice! How well does it work on non-sandy beaches with small pebbles?
I've not used it on sand. I use it on Long Island Sound - small stones, pebbles...
Cool, I'll have to give it try. Thanks for the tip!

how many people can fish on this boat?

The mean I can pull it with my Cherokee
Aluminum boats are hard on the knees and back, thats a pass for me
With a lack of weight, youre just gonna get rocked harder. Respectfully disagree with the choice.
