Sean Jung I dont know the full interpretation of Gary's quote but to my understanding its a business and marketing strategy that relies heavily on giving and hoping for the human trait of reciprocity. If there's a motivated buyer // someone looking for exactly what you're selling to solve their problem and you offer a solid offer then good copy and advertising is enough, no need to go overboard with free content unless it's laying the foundation for your long term strategy. Also, another company that's adopted this (worth looking at if you're interested in design) is The Futur. They've stated its their strategy for sales and they're damned good at what they do, interesting stuff...
