@@ImpressionBlend Shiva Baby was my favorite all year until I saw Wes Anderson's The French Dispatch and it blew me away. Great year for comedies and comedy-dramas. Love your list and videos!
I was blown away by Pig not to mention relieved that it wasn't another revenge film. It was also nice to see Alex Wolff show off his acting ability. I haven't seen him since Hereditary.
I know you said you aren't a big fan of westerns, and neither am I, but if you haven't seen "The Sisters Brothers" it's another great movie. It's an atypical western and I think you would like it. It's gorgeous, beautifully shot with a great cast and a solid story. I really liked "The Power of the Dog" even though I also don't particularly like westerns. And since I also love "The Sisters Brothers" I would definitely recommend you give it a watch if you haven't.
OMG! What a treasure it is to hear you talking about your 2021 favorite movies Marianna! We can tell you really love the art of cinema! I’m new to your channel but already binge watching your videos and turning on the notifications cause I don’t wanna miss a thing! Keep it up the incredible work you’re doing here!! Xoxo 😘
_The Green Knight_ is a top choice. The scene with the walking giants was one of the most exhilarating cinematic moments of the year. Weird year, my Top 5: 5. _Passing_ 4. _The French Dispatch_ 3. _King Richard_ 2. _Attica_ 1. _The Beatles: Get Back_
New Viewer this year and I’ve already watched so many movies bc of this channel. love how I can decide if I wanna see a movie mentioned or not with ZERO spoilers or giving anything away. So many reviewers say “no spoilers”, then spoil the movie.
I'm so glad you chose The Green Knight as your number 1. I haven't seen a film that was this thought-provoking in years. Great list! I am OBSESSED with this movie!
C'mon C'mon was amazing. I'm not into fantasy movies but the green knight looks promising. Would be nice to see a video of your favorite books in 2021.
Awesome list, Marianna. I've yet to watch every film in 2021, but of the ones I've seen so far, here's my Top 10: 1. Last Night in Soho 2. CODA 3. West Side Story 4. Mass 5. Dune 6. A Quiet Place: Part 2 7. The Father 8. Pig 9. The Green Knight 10. Spider-Man: No Way Home This year has been so incredible when it's come to film. It's really pained me to leave so many of my favorites off of my Top 10. Lol
Thanks! 😊 I honestly think it's gonna be one of those films that's gonna be looked upon as a masterful psychological-horror classic within the next few years.
Finally a list that includes C’mon C’mon! I also adored it for the reasons you stated. It was my #1 of the year and i’m still completely infatuated with it. Wish it was getting the attention it deserves for awards like at least Original Screenplay.
I'm new to your channel and I was watching every second of this video hoping "no way home" does not get mentioned. Glad to say I'm not disappointed. I enjoyed 50% of that movie and the other 50% I hope I could forget. Nothing wrong with movies like that, but to garner so much praise and popularity for the average movie that it was... kinda offends me as other good movies deserve more.
I liked your list. This is my top 10: 1.Dune 2. Last Night In Soho 3. Last Duel 4. The Father 5. Annette 6.Judas And The Black Messiah 7. Riders Of Justice 8.The Alpinist 9. The Mauritanian 10. The Killing of Two Lovers Havent seen cmon cmon, Flee, Or Nightmare Alley

Belfast Honorable Mentions: Pig The Green Knight Nine Days Encanto Bergman Island Last Night in Soho The Humans
You’ve honestly managed to watch all those films? Impressive! I saw Belfast last night and it’s hard to imagine it could ever be ranked 20th on a list of best films of the year. Testament to how strong a year it’s been I guess.
@@chrisjames1924 Yea, I've watched a total of 166 movies from 2021, I have no idea how, but my full list is here: letterboxd.com/impressionblend/list/2021-in-film-ranked/
Still haven't seen many of the films on your list yet, but 'Pig' definitely had one of my absolute favorite scenes of the year in it (I'm putting it at #2 right now), and that's the dinner scene that Cage cooks for Alex Wolf's father. That scene floored me. I still put 'Dune' in my #1 film slot because it was masterful filmmaking at every level by every department. Part Two can't get here soon enough. I want to see 'The Green Knight' again for the cinematography alone, and also because I now have a better grasp on the story, and I loved 'C'mon C'mon' so much, too. Gotta try to catch up on so many others I missed still.
@@michaelkreisel3573 - Haha, they definitely grabbed my attention, in post because I live in Portland where it takes place and that location was crazy, and doesn’t exist (or a does it?)!
Very impressed with your selections, some of these movies would have missed my attention had you not made this video and that would have been a shame knowing how much I love watching good movies - so, thank you!
Terrific top 10! I’ve seen many of these lists on TH-cam but this one was more similar to mine than any other. I ended up putting C’mon C’mon as my favourite of the year but it was a toss up with Worst Person in the World
10. Black Widow 9. Fear Street series 8. Spiderman 7. Don't look up 6. Shang Chi 5. Encanto 4. Passing 3. King Richard 2. The Harder They Fall 1. Summer Of Soul
Saint Maud is a HAUNTING film, and I don’t even watch or enjoy horror that much but there’s just this visceral and psychological emptiness and despair that clings to it and you long after you watch it
Your 1st choice is truly personal.. For that sole reason I like your list, even though that movie wouldn't make my own top list (but I found it entertaining, with nice pictures)
My favorites that I watched in 2021 (not that premiered in 2021) are Promising Young Woman, 1917, Palm Springs, The Last Duel, Interstellar and Dune. On a different note, yesterday I bought Solaris and I can't wait to read it. I have to finish Hyperion first.
Awesome top 10 these were my top 10 of the year 1. Titane 2. Boiling Point 3. Dune 4. Mass 5. Power of the Dog 6. Flee 7. The Alpinist 8. The French Dispatch 9. Pig 10. West Side Story
I haven't seen enough films from this year that I was super passionate about to fill out a best of list, but I can say that I most enjoyed Titane and The Lost Daughter, and that my favorite film, by far, was The Mitchell's vs. The Machines.
@@crobeastness The way Titane discusses identity, humanity, and transformation in the 21st century, to me, far surpasses what Ducournau achieved with Raw (which I also enjoyed)

fantastic list. The Green Knight is my #1 pick as well. probably the most accesable art film i have ever seen due to the little quest stories that I found really fun and interesting. I'm subscribing to you now! (I think Power of The Dog is my #2 pick) St Maude! *chef's kiss* great list
So, I came here looking for your review of Nightmare Ally and you're absolutely right: we were not worthy. I finally watched the film today and It was AMAZING. Even though I don't think the romance is fleshed out very well, Mara and Cooper are great together, specially in the latter part of the film. The ending is a gut punch that I'm still thinking about. WONDERFUL FILM 🔥🔥🔥 As for the rest of the list, hell yeah on Green Knight and Saint Maud. A24 really knocked it out of the park. Great video, always love to hear your thoughts on film 👏🏻♥️
After all these years! I come across this woman of great substance and beauty. And have been awoken to a great litany of film making that I thought was lost in the paat. Thank you Marianna for reawakening my love for cinema. You need to be more famous. Like Ebert and Kael. Keep it up!

Free Guy Yes, I had so much fun with 'Free Guy' lol
Watched The Green Knight last night. I loved it. It's now one of my favourite movies of all time. Beautiful, otherworldly, mystical, thought provoking, art. I loved Lowery's A Ghost Story too. I'm excited to see what he does next.
I'm a big fan of "A Ghost Story" myself. He's doing "Peter Pan & Wendy" next, curious how that turns out - I hope Disney will still allow him to bring in that personal touch and creativity.
So glad to see "Nightmare Alley" on your list. I think it's a fantastic remake of a classic noir that suffered the same fate upon its 1947 release (highly recommend giving the original a watch if you haven't yet). Hopefully this "Alley" will also form a strong cult following and be re-evaluated as years go by.
10. The French Dispatch 9. Titane 8. Worst Person In the World 7. Zack Snyder Justice League 6. Pig 5. Dune 4. The Power Of The Dog 3. The Last Duel 2. Belfast 1. The Green Knight Honorable mention: Don't Look Up, The Eyes of Tammy Fey, Spencer, Mass, C'mon C'mon, Drive My Car, King Richard, Eternals, Luca, Macbeth, Val, Annatte
Awesome!! I just discovered this channel nice work, I still gotta watch Pig, but I tend to like Nic Cage unrestrained when he's pretty wacked out LOL such as Matchstick Men, Leaving Las Vegas , Face Off, Raising Arizona etc... Anyways I appreciate your intelligent reviews on films keep em coming thanks!!!
Green Knight is my favorite of the year as well. Watched it thrice now. Most beautiful and lively movie of the year. Teaches a great lesson of valor, honesty within oneself and how to be a better person in general. Dev patel is great in the movie but Ralph Ineson as The Green Knight steals every scene. His voice is eerily good.
Omg I love C'Mon C'Mon, it's such a relaxing film to see. Also, have you seen Lamb? If there's one rare Cannes festival film I want people to watch, it's this one. Perfect cinematography in the Icelandic field and very twisted story with suspense from beginning to end.
Hey Marianna! Loved this list! It aches my heart that I had to take The Green Knight off my top 10 list after being there for many, many months! Completely agree with you about it being one of the best fantasy films… ever! But, I was satisfied with my list in the long run. 1. Licorice Pizza 2. The Worst Person in the World 3. tick, tick…BOOM! 4. Dune 5. Don’t Look Up 6. Spencer 7. C’mon C’mon 8. Red Rocket 9. West Side Story 10. Spider-Man: No Way Home I cannot wait to see what 2022 brings to your channel! Sending you nothing but the best! ✨
Such a great list. Loved almost every one of them, except SAINT MAUD. I would like to add to the list: RED ROCKET, SPENCER, THE HAND OF GOD, THE LOST DAUGHTER, MINNAL MURALI, SARDAR UDHAM, Bo Burnham's INSIDE. Still to catch up with a lot, especially Farhadi's A HERO.
Haha The Last Duel! I heard that Ridley Scott Company asked to visit a medieval castle near my town. They called the standard of the Office of Tours and Visits, and they asked: do you have an airstrip around here? Well, my boss said...it's a little town, you should find one if you drive 50km to come here. They came and took a look at it. Unfortunately, they did not retain the castle for the movie! :(
You still need to see Red Rocket. I know you disliked The Florida Project, but still. Worth a shot. Simon Rex is superb, and it’s gripping and unlike anything else to come out that year.
Magnífica selección y análisis. Hace pocos días encontré tu canal. Felicitaciones. Saludos desde Costa Rica 🇨🇷 Excelent selection and analysis. A few days ago I found your channel. Congratulations. A hug from Costa Rica 🇨🇷
I'm constantly surprised at how many people love 'The Green Knight'. I honestly fell asleep after 30-40 mins, and never went back to it. Maybe I'll give it another try.
Sorry to double comment but I just watched the Udo Kier film Swan Song (not to be confused with the Mahershala Ali film), and it absolutely blew me away. Please seek it out if you haven't. Might be my new favorite of the year
Wow!! New viewer and subscriber. Can't wait to watch these movies. Just curious though....There are two movies that have been left off your list that I am surprised about. The first Drive My Car and Licorice Pizza. I have not seen these movies, however, am aware that they have made many top ten lists for 2021. And how about The Lost Daughter. thanks, Vida. :)
Amazing list! The Green Knight is so incredible! Pig was also so much more than i expected. And i was sad Nightmare Alley did so poorly due to competing Spiderman :/ Have you read the book Nightmare Alley?
So far, out of all the top 10 of 2021 lists I've come across on TH-cam, your list is the closest I've found to my own personal top 10 of the year. Love it! I'll have to check out the couple ones I haven't seen yet.. Here are my picks: 1) Dune 2) The Green Knight 3) The Last Duel 4) C'mon C'mon 5) The Tragedy of Macbeth 6) Riders of Justice 7) Pig 8) Nightmare Alley 9) The Suicide Squad 10) Don't Look Up Honorable Mentions - The Power of the Dog, The Night House, Belfast, Justice League: Snyder Cut, and Val
I loved the Green Knight , I regarded it as storytale you hear as a kid , but darker ..when the movie ended I wished there were others like it , that I could watch ..very original
Fantastic list and really happy to see my number 1 of the year here (Pig). Yet to see 4 of these but most excited for C'Mon C'Mon, Flee and The Worst Person in the World, which I've heard nothing but rave reviews for. Happy new year - let's hope 2022 is just as good or better

@@bryancooper5495 It was the most critical and quotable movie of the year and the most inspiring one for me personally.. I enjoyed it enough to re-watch it a week later. The action, cinematography and editing sucks compared to the trilogy but it's still the most thought-provoking sci-fi-action movie in years.
you missed mentioning the scenery of The Power of Dog. One of the best locations I have ever seen in a Hollywood movie. And credit to whoever choose the locale. It compliments the screenplay so well. The scenery is just like the movie. Beautiful, yet sinister and haunting.

Xoxo 😘
Dune and The Green Knight? Absolute taste
Aww thanks)) Looking forward to your Top 10!
_The Green Knight_ is a top choice. The scene with the walking giants was one of the most exhilarating cinematic moments of the year.
Weird year, my Top 5:
5. _Passing_
4. _The French Dispatch_
3. _King Richard_
2. _Attica_
1. _The Beatles: Get Back_
Two documentaries at the top! Awesome! Really looking forward to catching up on both of those.
Totally agree with you “The green knight”and “Dune” are masterpieces full of pure beauty and images we have never seen before.
C'mon C'mon was amazing. I'm not into fantasy movies but the green knight looks promising. Would be nice to see a video of your favorite books in 2021.
Awesome list, Marianna. I've yet to watch every film in 2021, but of the ones I've seen so far, here's my Top 10:
1. Last Night in Soho
2. CODA
3. West Side Story
4. Mass
5. Dune
6. A Quiet Place: Part 2
7. The Father
8. Pig
9. The Green Knight
10. Spider-Man: No Way Home
This year has been so incredible when it's come to film. It's really pained me to leave so many of my favorites off of my Top 10. Lol
That's a great list! Love that you put "Last Night in Soho" at the top!
Wish it was getting the attention it deserves for awards like at least Original Screenplay.
i hear you pal
I'm new to your channel and I was watching every second of this video hoping "no way home" does not get mentioned. Glad to say I'm not disappointed. I enjoyed 50% of that movie and the other 50% I hope I could forget. Nothing wrong with movies like that, but to garner so much praise and popularity for the average movie that it was... kinda offends me as other good movies deserve more.
I liked your list. This is my top 10:
1.Dune
2. Last Night In Soho
3. Last Duel
4. The Father
5. Annette
6.Judas And The Black Messiah
7. Riders Of Justice
8.The Alpinist
9. The Mauritanian
10. The Killing of Two Lovers
Havent seen cmon cmon, Flee, Or Nightmare Alley

14. Flee
15. Spencer

18. Nightmare Alley
19. Judas and the Black Messiah
20. Belfast
Honorable Mentions:
Pig
The Green Knight
Nine Days
Encanto
Bergman Island
Last Night in Soho
The Humans
That is a SOLID list!
You mean that fight club scenes didn’t grab your attention? 🥴 best thing about Pig, it was only 93 minutes
Yea we need more critics like her. Most popular TH-cam movie critics only review Popular movies at the time of release.
Terrific top 10! I’ve seen many of these lists on TH-cam but this one was more similar to mine than any other. I ended up putting C’mon C’mon as my favourite of the year but it was a toss up with Worst Person in the World
10. Black Widow
9. Fear Street series
8. Spiderman
7. Don't look up
6. Shang Chi
5. Encanto
4. Passing
3. King Richard
2. The Harder They Fall
Those are some great picks!
I'm going to finish Solaris tonight!
@@vins1979 great!!
Awesome top 10 these were my top 10 of the year
1. Titane
2. Boiling Point
3. Dune
4. Mass
5. Power of the Dog
6. Flee
7. The Alpinist
8. The French Dispatch
9. Pig
10. West Side Story
I haven't seen enough films from this year that I was super passionate about to fill out a best of list, but I can say that I most enjoyed Titane and The Lost Daughter, and that my favorite film, by far, was The Mitchell's vs. The Machines.
really? Titane was such nonsense. that director did a much better with Raw.
@@crobeastness this take is such nonsense
@@crobeastness The way Titane discusses identity, humanity, and transformation in the 21st century, to me, far surpasses what Ducournau achieved with Raw (which I also enjoyed)
@@looney1023 the way Titane discusses identity is post-modernistic relativism. That kind of philosophy plays well with high schools, not real people.

3- The Worst Person in the World
4- Dune
5- A Family
6- Justice League

9.The Eternals
8.Halloween kills
7.Mortal Kombat
6.Shang chi
5.Black widow
4.A Quiet place part 2
3.Venom let there be Carnage
2.Spider-Man No Way home
1.Zack Snyder’s justice league
fantastic list. The Green Knight is my #1 pick as well. probably the most accesable art film i have ever seen due to the little quest stories that I found really fun and interesting. I'm subscribing to you now! (I think Power of The Dog is my #2 pick) St Maude! *chef's kiss* great list
Thank you for sharing the list! I missed so many fabulous works last a few month and should catch up. Your list helps much!
WONDERFUL FILM 🔥🔥🔥
As for the rest of the list, hell yeah on Green Knight and Saint Maud.
Keep it up!
Marianna has definitely improved her critical skills.

Yes, I had so much fun with 'Free Guy' lol
I'm so glad you loved the Green Knight so much! I have seen few people talk about it which blows my mind - it is such a fantastic and stunning film.
@@ImpressionBlend That is an interesting choice. Yes I hope he can maintain his unique vision.

How in the world is it "lively"?
Omg I love C'Mon C'Mon, it's such a relaxing film to see.
Also, have you seen Lamb? If there's one rare Cannes festival film I want people to watch, it's this one. Perfect cinematography in the Icelandic field and very twisted story with suspense from beginning to end.
Cannot wait to dig into the films I have not yet viewed. Thanks Marianna!
I hope you discover some new favorites! Thanks for watching!
Hey Marianna! Loved this list! It aches my heart that I had to take The Green Knight off my top 10 list after being there for many, many months! Completely agree with you about it being one of the best fantasy films… ever! But, I was satisfied with my list in the long run.

2. The Worst Person in the World

4. Dune
5. Don’t Look Up
6. Spencer
7. C’mon C’mon

great video my top 6 are
6 Dune
5 Snyder Cut
4 No Time To Die
3 The Suicide Squad
2 No Way Home
1 Shang-cHI
Such a great list. Loved almost every one of them, except SAINT MAUD. I would like to add to the list:
RED ROCKET, SPENCER, THE HAND OF GOD, THE LOST DAUGHTER, MINNAL MURALI, SARDAR UDHAM, Bo Burnham's INSIDE.
Loved your intro message! Great list I have a little catching up to do!
Thank you! Hope you discover some new favorites))

Excelent selection and analysis. A few days ago I found your channel. Congratulations. A hug from Costa Rica 🇨🇷
I'm constantly surprised at how many people love 'The Green Knight'. I honestly fell asleep after 30-40 mins, and never went back to it. Maybe I'll give it another try.
There's a film from a few years ago, titled "Dude, where's my car?" I recommend it to you, I guess you'll love it, it is probably at your level.
I just Didn't like it
Sorry to double comment but I just watched the Udo Kier film Swan Song (not to be confused with the Mahershala Ali film), and it absolutely blew me away.
Here are my picks:

@@bryancooper5495 It was the most critical and quotable movie of the year and the most inspiring one for me personally.. I enjoyed it enough to re-watch it a week later. The action, cinematography and editing sucks compared to the trilogy but it's still the most thought-provoking sci-fi-action movie in years.

you missed mentioning the scenery of The Power of Dog. One of the best locations I have ever seen in a Hollywood movie. And credit to whoever choose the locale. It compliments the screenplay so well. The scenery is just like the movie. Beautiful, yet sinister and haunting.

I liked St Mauds, Sound of Metal and Dune, those were just bubbling under. I wasn't fussed on Power Of a Dog. There's a bunch of other things I haven't seen but need to get around to.
Another well considered list. C'Mon C'Mon hasn't arrived in the Caucasus yet. But my radar is on full alert! And Nightmare Alley is coming in another week, so I will catch it on the Big Screen... eagerly. I could quibble with the list a little but that is nature of lists isn't it? What I always appreciate about your lists is that you explain very clearly why you were moved by a piece of work, and even if it didn't strike me that way, I do use your comments to reflect again. Saint Maud was wild. That last shot! Also reminded me of Eileen by Ottessa Moshfegh in ways. omg i really thought your #2 was going to be your #1!
Whoa, I need to read "Eileen" then because I need more weird stuff like this! And yes, I suspect most people thought my runner up was going to be my top pick - plot twist :D
@@ImpressionBlend they aren’t similar in terms of the religious stuff but the atmosphere, how dark it is, the female relationships, the depressing tone etc all are VERY Eileen
Happy New Year, Marianna! ^_^
I haven't watched any of these films.
I always trust your curation so I'll be starting the year with these films.
Thank you = )

Recently dropped on your channel. You reviews are 100% spot on. Will watch The Green Knight on the basis of your recommendation - fingers crossed I like it.
Exceptionally strong list.
Great list! Also, I never realized how much you look like Jodie Comer until this video.
Thank you!
The Power of the Dog was absolutely H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E ! I’m rooting for it to completely dissipate out of existence. PIG was way too bleak, not horrible, but not all that entertaining either. Dune was fantastic!
You Marianna are absolutely Magnificent!
Holy crap!! We have the same top 2!!
And I am one of the those people that thought the original Nightmare Alley was better (and under 2hrs).
Cool, i actually havent seen ANY of the films on this list except Dune haha, looks like i have a lot of catching up to do.
Still haven't seen all the films I wish to yet, but I doubt many of these will change.
