Hey Tim, thanks for the detailed video for fixing the power seats on my venerable FJ 80. We’ve had her for 25 years, second owner. My wife always announces that it’s her tank. Decided to attempt the repair on the unmovable passenger side seat. Bought the gears and cap from your website, just finished installing and is a great success. Decided to use the job as a teaching moment for the grand nephew - graduates high school next week. We do a lot of yard and building projects but first time anything automotive related. Setup my iPad and your video on the tailgate and dove in. We didn’t have the nifty stool like you used. Just set the seat upside down on the tailgate, perfect workbench. No problems, just start/stop the video to stay in sync. Our only problem was dropping one of the nuts from the lead screw shaft into the seat. Luckily some pounding and shaking of the seat cushion and it bounced out so he could snag it with the magnetic probe. The background music was great to work along with (nicely done BTW). So seat works great, grand nephew can brag to his Dad about his new skills, and Happy Wife, Happy Life. Thanks again Tim. Oh yeah, both gears were stripped smooth.
Thanks for this. I paid attention so I wouldn't make your mistake. Then I dropped one of the trim screws into the seat and upon retrieving it I found one of the inner washers in there. Fell out while I was fiddling with trying to get it back together. Just like you, had to take it all apart again. But I'm good at the process now thanks to your video and my extra practice.
Another thanks. Today I tackled my drivers seat because of a clunk when accelerating and braking. Turns out, from the screw in the cap, someone already replaced the gears. However, from your video and my experience on the passenger side, I was able to identify that the rear washers were missing, causing the clunk. Got them replaced and much better. Thanks again for all the info shared here.
Thanks for the great tutorial! Swapped both gears in the passenger seat - back up and running as good as new! One more 'right of passage' task completed that all 80 series owners must endure!

Awesome video Tim! My seat gears arrived and I super appreciate the roof rack conversation. Typically with alot of land cruiser stuff like going into a gun shop the gunshop guys know more than anyone about everything and are not cool to talk to. I appreciate the awesome information and your openness of communication! Very refreshing!
Great video. The Gamiviti parts arrived and I think I will tackle the project this weekend. Looks like it takes about 30 - 45 minutes per seat. I hope the problem is the seat gears. My backyard find had a number of things needed and inoperable seats was one of them. Thanks again.

Great video, but the "background" music is super annoying, very monotonous, and it is quite loud with respect to the voice, sometimes we can barely hear what you are saying.
Mine turned out to be an unsuccessful story. Broke one of the plastic gears, as I was installing it. And now, with everything installed, only one of the rails moves. The other rail doesn't move at all. And now, it's not even engaged. Motor is just spinning II can hear it) and seat is not moving. Back to the drawing board. Ugh!
The best grease would be what's made for plastic gears, like for RC Crawler diffs.. I've used normal chassis grease, same as used on the wheel bearings on the 80, and that seems to be working well also.
Wish you could remake this video with louder verbal audio and where the flash screens with the information don't disappear so fast. Also, what's an ejector pin mark? May I suggest you put a sharpie mark on the side that you're referring to? Thanks

Awesome video. Had my gameviti gears break When reinstalling. Broke first after install. Broke second one when trying to lightly mallet hammer the gear onto the steel axle. Any advice? Am reordering.
Your video is very well done. I have a plastic gear problem on my 2005 100 series Cruiser which appears more complicated than the 80 series fix you show. Have you replaced gears on a 100 yet? Any videos or repair parts available to replace the drivers side forward and back track gears? There are 2 and my left side is fine but the right side is not working and binding. At that point, the fuse blows and nothing on the seat works.
This is an awesome video. My new gamiviti gears arrived quickly and went in great! Unfortunately however, the motors aren’t turning on either seat when I plugged them in 😟. I’m a novice, so forgive me…but does this mean both of my motors are shot? Or is there something I’m missing?
did the motors work before, and now they don't? any sound at all? Just trying to trace if it's a connection issue, electrical issue, or if there's binding somewhere... you sure you reconnected the power?
Hey kit worked great but for some reason I can’t put the seat back in the truck. The bolts do not align correctly. What can I possibly be doing wrong ? Ps great video
Yes this is fairly common.. you want to open up those holes in the seat bracket a little bit with either a step drill or file, enough so that the bolts can pass through. Otherwise if you bolt the seat down by forcing the bracket to align with the holes, the whole thing will be bound up and won't slide very well.
@@gamiviti4828 thanks for your reply. I found the issue I took off both seats, took apart the 2 rods on each seat and mix matched them when I put it back. The drivers seat is a bit longer than the passenger seat rod so this caused issues.
you can pull your seat apart to inspect the gear, if what you have looks like the same then there's a good chance these will fit. They fit multiple vehicles from the 1994 era so good chance you're in luck here. And of course if you purchase the gears then discover they are different you can send them back.

@@gamiviti4828 amazing video by the way. I ordered your gears and followed the instructions and now my seats work flawlessly. My gears were too old and the plastic was melted stuck to the metal part itself so I had to heat them up quite a bit before I was able to remove my old plastic gear. The new gears were very easy to put on, I just had to use a lot of Grease. Thank you so much.
I just did my oassenger seat, each time i put the seat back in i could move the seat back, but when going fwd it binds up. Thoughts? i tired three times, one of which i noticed the ger i installed was chewed up, so i used a spare. I aligned the slides, screwed the end peice on as suggested.
Thanks for the comment! these are replicas of the Toyota parts, which we stock and ship worldwide. The Toyota part would be the entire motor assembly, which you don't need to replace, just these little plastic caps and gears.

Excellent product and first class tutorial. Took one hour for passenger's seat then 15 minutes for driver's side. Both now are as good as new.

that was awesome. my chairs don't slide back & fourth at all, my guess is the motor itself needs replacement, what do you think?

Do you know what models these gears cover? I have a 1994 Aristo

You can pound it off with a socket and hammer. Definitely recommend a vice for pressing the new one back on though.

I would make sure the seat moves before you bolt it down. and of course make sure the white cap isn't in too far.
