  • When I got the call about this small collection I almost could not believe the story that the seller had. Then he sent me pictures and I just got so excited. Naturally since the cars he had were so scarce I had to have them.
    So did were they the Rare Store Display cars from 1968? Were they as nice as the photo preview? Join me now and see!
    Check out what I have for sale at www.ToyCarCollector.com Thanks for watching and supporting my channel.

    OK, so they aren't exactly mint. But as a collector myself, I can tell you they can easily be sold no problem. There are new collectors that just want a complete set of Sweet Sixteens, regardless of whether they're mint or not. It's just my humble opinion...

  • @hotwheelindeals6805
    @hotwheelindeals6805 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Seriously, unless you paid thousands you shouldn't have expected mint original redlines. If you don't appreciate them, I'll give you what you paid for them happily so you can get your money back. DM me if you want to sell them.

    My name is Robert Hirst. When I lived in Florida many years ago I used to buy off of you, through catalog. Late 80s early 90s. I took your word and your grading system and I was never disappointed. I was watching your store display reveal, I've been collecting for a long time and I got a few cars I've been collecting, not nearly as nice as yours 8 and up, on a tens scale. Because there's there's no photographs or very few to go by on the store display to determine which colors were the real colors. Now I'm missing the mustang the bug the Camaro the the T-Bird and the barracuda. But the ones I have are nines and I'm happy about that, . It's too bad no one will make a copy and sell it of the display itself. It's good to watch your video es, makes you feel good on . Have a great day and good hunting

      Well hello again! The store display was such a deal when it came out at just $500. Many folks parted out the cars right away and got$1500 just for the cars. The displays sold on eBay without cars for $300. The display with cars has been as high as 3500 and no cars 800. They made only 1500 of them. I would be curious how many have just been put away? I bet a third have been parted out. The cars arr awesome!

    Mint condition when you've seen and held 100,000 examples is a completely different perspective than someone who has only seen and held 35 examples. It took me years of holding 165,000+ coins to understand what a MS67 really should look like.

    Store display Hot Wheels rule. Many of those cars were faded from being in store windows for months.
    The store display Deoras are always a lighter Aqua, I finally found one. Sometimes the surf boards were glued on, but I don’t know if that was factory or the shop owners doing it. They glued the hoods, so..?
    Dr Mint had a store display Custom Mustang that was almost totally faded in a mauve color.

    Didn't see my main question addressed: rare store displays..what does that mean as far as the cars' configuration? Early variations? The T-bird roof was not painted; was that part of it? If the only difference here is their post-mfg environment, faded & glued etc., wouldn't make them rare to me. Thanks!

    When HOT WHEELS 1st came out my dad bought 20 cars 10 of each to play with and the other 10 duplicates of each were stashed away for sure I do remember the Red Barron because my name is Baron the rest I'll have no clue as to what they were. Every time I bought a HOT WHEELS car MATCH BOX or Johnny Lighting I always bought 2 cars. As for HOT WHEELS, OH BOY! I had no love for the TRACK because if I didn't get the belt then it was a piece of the track so I threw the track in the garbage can.

The Bone Shaker is one of the most popular models to collect. Oh now that I think of it look on eBay for "Hot Wheels Bone Shaker FIRST EDITION" that should do it.

      Check out CarneyPlastics.com for really nice display cases that all the collectors love. 108 car case is the most popular. NOTE: do not mount any display cases directly on an outside wall of your home. If you have to be sure to extend it from the wall. You do not want the cold to get to the cars and bring moisture.

    Recently my love for Hot Wheels was executed. My house was robbed. I'm 62. Been collecting HW since 1968. Among my losses they took a large portion of my cased redlines and black walls. And sigh my complete heavy weights. They left me with 1987 and up. I just dont have the energy, time, or the funds to start again. So I'm dumping what's left at our up coming yard sale. Should I separate by year, model, or condition?

      Ebay costs about 14% which is cheap considering if there was no internet and ebay the cars would be $5 a piece. Now most redlines are at least $30 to $60 and way more for the good ones. Email pics to me toycarcollector @ gmail.com

    U know you have handled to many cars when your this picky. Tbh I wouldn't want a mint store display car, because it might be fake or not an actual store display. The glue damage is actual a good thing. For example a mint Brown Camaro could have actually come from a blisterpack or track set.

    You need to do your homework about the post office
    From the video it shows that it wasn’t a post office box but one the customer chose themselves

    • @toycarcollector
      @toycarcollector  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think after 33 yeas of mail order I kinda know what I am doing. The problem with any box is that once you go over 12x12x12 the cost sky rockets at the post office and you are better off with UPS. In this case he used a box that was not necessary for this stuff. So because it was over 1,728 cubic inches total (12x12x12) the cost of US Post Office was $30 higher than it needed to be.

    How can you tell if they are store displays?

    • @toycarcollector
      @toycarcollector  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The combination of models. Most store displays came with models rarely or never seen in blister packs. I believe the light pink Mustang has never been seen in a blister or not from a display. Also the Brown Camaro which only one in BP has been found. I think possibly the same goes for the Gold T-Bird with no black roof. The Red Barracuda came be found somewhat easier. Some displays have the Ice Blue Cougar. Antifreeze Python seems to be in all the displays and the light aqua Fleetside and Deora. The seller was not really a hot wheels collector, all the cars were given to him after his dad went to a toy fair. I've noticed some variety of color mixes in displays seen on the internet but I think some of that may be due to people switching out cars. Back when displays sold for around $5k you could take out the Mustang or Camaro out and sell them for $1k to $2k each.

      I always pay based on condition and rarity. With all the information available to anyone today there are no bargains to be had. Plus competition is stiff as there are Hot Wheels collectors everywhere. The only deals I hear of are guys running in to sellers at shows who have not taken the time to look up values. I know a guy who recently bought 3 displays at an antique show for $500 a piece and they are actually worth $5000 to $10k each! I have hit a few scores like that in the past but today it's super rare.
