      Oh nice one. I used it over the weekend at Bike Park Wales in some very dark/wet conditions, yet the GoPro performed damn well considering. Enjoy

    Bro, excellent vide and great review!! I have the 10 and it crashed on me a few times. In fact, I recently lost good footage because it locked up. I had to remove the battery and that’s when I lost everything 🤦🏾‍♂️. The crashes occurs when I have the media mode on so hopefully they will fix it with the next update. Outside of that I love the camera! I noticed you don’t use the media mode. Great idea mounting the GoPro on the helmet, excellent view! Keep up the great work!!

    • @NTLife

      @@LukeMegBiking firstly the lock up issue you demonstrated. My DJI never locks up. The stability of the recording doesn't seem as good as the DJI, and additionally there have been numerous reports of overheating. I'e been using the OSMO for a year and the Rocksteady is excellent, the battery life is far superior to gopro and I'e not experienced any overheating or freezing during its use.
      I did like the chin mount though! and if I had a full face helmet would e interested.

    • @LukeMegBiking
      @LukeMegBiking  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NTLife Thanks for the comment. It’s about time GoPro produced a product that didn’t glitch, we are in 2021 and on model number 10, and we still have glitches which is incredible.
      I do have to respectfully disagree regarding the stabilisation in some fashion, as I do not film in “boost mode” as it makes everything too smooth and it makes gnarly MTB trails look like wonderful smooth flow trails (added with the additional crop).
      The trails we were riding were rough, and the lighting was not great (which was the point of the video after all) but there is some personal preference in my stabilisation setup, which I’m sure is the case with your footage.
      From my use of the Osmo the GoPro performs better and certainly better in low light, but we are comparing a 2019 product to a late 2021 product which in the tech world is unfair right.
      We have to highlight the fact that the GoPro stabilisation is in body, and not in an app as it is on the Osmo, which is a big tick for the GoPro in my opinion, but you are right, I have heard of overheating issues, albeit I haven’t had such issues myself.
      I have no affinity to any action cam maker, I will buy the best for my needs, and for sure I’m eagerly anticipating the release of the new Osmo Action 2 later this month.

    • @RidetheWild
      @RidetheWild 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LukeMegBiking the Osmo stabilisation is in camera - the only thing that lets the Osmo down for mtb use is the lack of a wide “superview” type mode. We use 128gb SD cards in the Hero 10 (and did in the Hero 9 before) and format them before every ride. We rarely had glitches on the 9 and the 10 hasn’t glitched at all so far - that said the Osmos were utterly reliable for the best part of a year.

    • @LukeMegBiking
      @LukeMegBiking  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RidetheWild My bad, I got confused with the Insta360 go 2 🤦🏻‍♂️ When I tested the Osmo I found the stabilisation not as good as the GoPro 9 to be honest, but I liked the camera for sure

      I’m stoked you enjoyed it dude. Yes for all clips where I was using the GoPro, the sound is from the inbuilt mic.

    Thanks, stunning testing! Subscribed! I have been doing my own testing too. I would like to know what kind of shutter speed, auto or fixed? Did you use ev compensation? Iso max 1600 would be ok too, it's not that bad in the woods. I'm trying to find some settings to ride in the darkness with lights.

    • @LukeMegBiking
      @LukeMegBiking  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much, super stoked you enjoyed it. Auto shutter for sure, as then the GoPro will automatically adjust to the changing lighting conditions, giving you the best image possible.
      If you are riding in the dark, your footage is going to look terrible unfortunately. The ISO is artificial light generated from the inbuilt software, this is why “noise” (grainy artefacts seen within the image) are present.
      The issue us mountain bikers have is, we are moving the GoPro around in sudden and sharpe movements, and the inbuilt stabilisation cannot read our next move due to the poor lighting conditions, so to expect the GoPro to provide anything above poor quality footage in dark conditions with stabilisation activated is unrealistic.
      Having a mechanical gimbal with the stabilisation turned off with a good bright light would offer better performance.
      EV is another digital option to increase/decrease light, and noise will also occur.
      If I were you, I’d play around and increase the EV and ISO, but ISO 1600 will absolutely make the footage more noisy.
      I would prefer to use 800 and edit the footage to brighten up the footage, as shown in the video.
      Hope that helps 😀

      @@LukeMegBiking I have some testing in my channel. I found out ok settings in 4k30fps with fixed 1/120 shutter and 1600ISO. I also found out nice editing workflow in post where I can mask "jitter" blur to be less annoying. I use interpolation by blending frames. I need to try more for sure. I found out that the ev compensation doesn't work in the darkness. Which makes sense though. I installed gopro labs firmware so I can have more control in settings. I'm going to test more for sure with the labs version. Here is my test th-cam.com/video/LB-dFGlNW3U/w-d-xo.html

    I just got my full face helmet and installed the chin mount for the GoPro 10. After recording my 1st footage, I couldn't see my handle bars as I would when using the chest mount. Just as you demonstrated on your video, I'm going to lower the camera position below the chin and turn it upside down. I'll test it out tomorrow(if weather permits) and see how it goes.
    I've been watching the Gopro helmet mount from the motorcycle TH-camrs. They all mount their Gopros in normal upright position right on the chin. I guess this angles works for motorcyclists, but this method wasn't working for my ebike(Sondors original) which has low handle bar position.

    • @LukeMegBiking
      @LukeMegBiking  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice job on the news set-up 🙌. How I go about positioning the GoPro on the mount.
      1) adjust the GoPro to the position that you think works, tighten it in place then record your riding,
      2) after my first trail I check the footage - it’s pointed too much down, I raise the GoPro by 1-2mm depending (or I raise the GoPro more downwards if the GoPro was pointing too high)
      3) I then film my next trail. By that point it’s pretty much perfect and no more adjustments are needed.
      4) As you are just figuring out your angle, repeats steps 2-3 until you get the perfect filming angle. Take not of the angle and next time you start your ride you’ll pretty much have your perfect angle as soon as you start

      Thank you for the tip. I've been recording street rides on my ebike using the chest mount. I tried to record some footage today using the chin mount on my helmet, but had hard time getting the right angle. Basically I had hard time getting my handle bars to show on the footage. I had the gopro setup like you did on the video. Tried various positions sometimes even using additional extensions to lower the gopro, but wasn't getting good results.
      I like how you used just one chin mount and turned the gopro upsdie down. I'll keep trying like you suggested and hopefully I'll get the right angle.

      @@vidspeed Just remember, If I was riding steep tech vs riding some much flatter flow trails, the angle of the GoPro would need to be adjusted for sure. My GoPro would need to be pointed further forward for steep terrain where as I would position the GoPro so it would be tilted more towards the ground if I was riding something much flatter, this was your handle bars will always be in shot

    hey mate im new to bike riding with a camera and assume chest mount isnt a good view and then thought top of helmet would be better but like u said u dont see handle bars which is not a good view, i have seen people have it mounted on the side of the helmet which i think would be a good view. the view in the footage with it mounted on the chin was good but i felt it needed tilting up a bit as it was too down for me and not level straight view which i would like but i also felt its too high so then ive came back to thinking chest height is the best but the adjustment isnt there is it? im confused on what mount to get. and i wouldnt be wearing one of them helmets especially for long trails and hot weather. also megs cool on a bike and u bro and nice place i would like to do that on my bike. edit: also is that a common thing that keeps happening with gopro 10 crashing or have they sorted that problem?

    • @LukeMegBiking
      @LukeMegBiking  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey dude, the ultimate solution for you would be to use a 360 camera, then you can choose you preferred angle after it is filmed. Thank you for the stoke, we are really lucky to be surrounded by such amazing trails. Yes, unfortunately GoPro's glitch a lot, it's the sad reality of having a GoPro, and I only use GoPro because the footage is so good (when it doesn't glitch)
