I totally disagree with your point about Archer; I think that the late '00s/early '10s will be regarded as his best years. He doesn't seem as free-wheeling and overpowering as he did in '90-'92, but he's become so much more disciplined, and the shift to 10-ball suits his game perfectly. John Schmidt commentated the finals of the UPL 10-ball in '08 or '09 and relates his amazement that people around pool regard him as "over the hill."
BTW, the tournament directors instilled a shot clock for the finals match, only, which was a huge advantage for Dechaine.. Pace is very important, and Jones forced his opponents into his pace, for the whole tournament, only to have the rules changed on him in the finals.. Not cool..
True that the rules should not change during the event. But slow players making their opponents wait for minutes on end is unsportsmanlike as well. There should be a shot clock in all of these events. The Mosconi Cup one seems to work fine.
2:17:20 was a good hit, no foul. If you look at the action of the cue ball, it was clearly a draw with left spin action, if it was a push foul, the ball would've gone forward. He elevated with a quick snappy stroke.
OK, Johnny Archer is not playing the best pool of his life, right now... Maybe you weren't around in the 90's, but I was, and trust me on that one.. Although I do agree Mike has a bright future (he could use a ego deflate, but he's allowed to be as cocky as he like, IMHO).. Lemme put it another way, that maybe you'll agree with... The player who eats, drinks, and sleeps pool is gonna have the advantage, and Jones just doesn't play, anymore.. Not enough, at least, to compete at the top..
Billy is 100% right, every tournament should be alternate break. it is not fair to someone who pays their money to enter a tournament and then watch a guy crush you with numerous break and runs, where you barely get a shot in the entire match. And I say this as a guy who has crushed a lot of people in tournaments with a lot of break and runs. If you are playing for cash in a bar, that is different, then it should be winner breaks, unless there is a spot where you give someone the break. But it should always be alternate breaks in a tournament, so it is fair to everyone. let's say you enter a $50 tournament, it is race to 5 and winner breaks. And you draw someone who wins the flip, or the lag, and they break and run 5 games in a row on you, and you lose without even getting a shot, how the hell is that fair. Name one other sport where you can lose and never get to play, you cant.
I don't regard him as "over the hill".. lol.. But, I don't see him in the finals of every tournament, either, like in the 90's.. And I have to disagree with your assertion about discipline.. Johnny has never been undisciplined, and in fact, he tends to actually be meticulous, by nature.. Which is why his control of the cue ball is so legendary.. I stand by my original post, which never mentioned anything about anyone being "over the hill"..
Mike played really well, but you can just see the difference in knowledge, and experience with Jones.. He outplayed Dechaine, really, but missed a couple shots that really cost him.. Just goes to show it's a young man's game (no offense, Double J)..
The players who complain about the lack of spectator interest in pool are the same ones who make the game unwatchable. No one wants to watch players nitpick over the quality of a rack
great match but this guy close to the end of the video knocks over mikes pool case an doesnt look he was going to pick it up if that was me an my case i would b pissed
Billy how do you keep from getting dumped love to gamble alot players I back were honest split money right but few not so honest but I will tell you that one's that dump me paid ultimate sacrifice death and I'm not mad at all about that
Good Point. Louie dumped me to Flyer in a tournament in Little Rock. And I was the guy who had him hypnotized which jumped his game by the 7 ball . But, dumping wasn't a new thing for Louie..
does ultimate holier than thou hyper precision sureshot accu-master commentator wanna-be pool god monotone jeremy drones actually win this utube match??
Thanks for the commentary Billy!

Shot of the match at 1:27:20 !
Racking the balls added 1/2 hr to this match
BTW, I am JJ's younger (but not much younger) brother, so I am a little biased, just so you know..

Is Jeremy going to play in USA VS EUR?
