Thanks JJ. That's where I go wrong many times is my eyes fooling me once in down on the shot and then readjusting. Need to trust my aim as you say!
New to this way of shooting but also not fully trusting the alignment. Doesn't always look right.

Excellent video. It took me a number of years to figure out how important alignment is to consistently being a good shot maker (I am a bit slow on the draw). We see these pros so casually, it seems, get down on the shot we figure it is just something that happens without much thought. Well initially, until it becomes totally normal, you have to think about it.
I had a bad habit of aligning my right foot (I am right handed) to the right of the shot line. This caused all sorts of problems because for my body type it meant I was pulling the stick back slightly to the right of the shot line and then coming through from slightly right to left - which is not good. Once I realize that alignment was so critical I have mostly fixed this problem and become a highly consistent shot maker.
My advice to all watching this video. Do as mentioned! Focus on your fundamentals and one of the most important, if not the most important is alignment and stance. If you have those two down the rest of it becomes much easier.
Hi, I totally agree with you, but what I think is that we cant say what is more important in between alignment/stance/stroke. They cant without each other.
@@andrijabujosevic1295 Well, all are important. One thing you left out is aim. Without aiming right the other three really don't matter. But once you have the aim then alignment and stance are next.
I was playing a young guy yesterday that had one of the best strokes I have ever seen. His stroke looked like Gorst. But it was obvious to myself and others his alignment was off. He really really the entire match. There was really no way he could should well with how far off his alignment was.

Neils has a good video on this as well. Stand behind the shot line. Lay cue down on shot line with tip almost at cueball, touch cue butt to your right leg(right hand player) while its on the line, then dont move your right foot, just turn it about 45 degrees across the shot line that you just established, then step into the shot with your left foot and get down onto the table without moving the right foot, and everything falls in line

I have started using these approach like few months after I started playing pool, it was weird on the begging, but now its a kind of mechanical movements. But what I think, its really hard to adjust to these things if you are someone who is playing it differently for a years.
Great nitty gritty on the stance. Honestly, this is why most people are “inconsistent” from day to day, like me. Even if your feet are an inch or two off from day to day, you are messing up your shotmaking! Also, I think it’s important to mention that some people are cross eye dominant, and for them, a more sideways stance is appropriate, vs a more square stance. My vision center is in between my nose and right eye, and I’m also right handed, so a more square stance is appropriate for me.
Yep, being out of line with your stance, even just a bit, can cause all sorts of inconsistent shooting problems. Properly aligning your stance is one of the most important things there is, maybe the most important, to being a good shot maker.
Aiming is the easy part , basically a 3 minute tutorial on body position is all it takes. A straight stroke and cue ball knowledge is what’s needed,that’s the work.

Excellent fundamentals of aiming. Don't fall for most of the unique aiming systems. You see the shot when you are a couple steps away from the table. Do you thinking away from the table. Once you are in the shooting stance you perform.

I'm glad I'm finally taking the time to learn some good fundamentals now that I'm old and married with kids and will never have the time and energy to put the time in to get competition ready for this game ever again.

Mark Wilson teaches creating the shot line outside the back foot to provide ample clearance. Do you agree with trending in that direction or are you firm on lining with the ball of the foot?

I was taught 50 years ago there is no english on a cue ball until you go right or left of the center line.
has that rule changed in pool
draw and follow are simply below center or above center

the first video made completely question my mechanics. is contact supposed to happen when the arm is exactly 90 degrees, or slightly after?
Exactly at 90 degrees, at that point is at the bottom of your pendulum swing, if you make contact after that point, you will be hitting the ball during your follow through, that's not what you want!

Great and very knowledgeable coach. But... this time it's slightly unclear.
The 1st (so not his personal which he explains secondly) way, stepping in is 2 steps? If so that ruins the whole lining up. His way seems to be 1 step, which makes the advantage of the 1st way unclear, although the square standing doesn't strain your muscles and joints, which is a physical plus.
If there is one little piece of criticism it would be that less (words) could make it clearer in some insurances.

Waaaay back when I was nine or ten, my uncle showed me this. I'd been copying Minnesota Fats because he had made the biggest impression. Now, like 40 decades later, I can shoot either way, so that's a real baffler to the competition. This may sound silly, but every single shot is custom crafted to suit the circumstance.

How many of you are able to see the ghost ball?
Would be really nice if women could get some advice on how to adjust your shot if you are overly endowed - after 5 yrs of playing I have just begun to understand that the irritating side that appears to have snuck into my game at times is due to my boobs and short or binding them or cutting them off, I don't know what to do becoz the chicken wing doesn't do it for me either... D:<
I have concluded that this may be 1 reason why I encounter less women than men in this game at higher levels perhaps?!
