China has been well ahead to the rest of the world for ages. Created soy milk during the period 25 - 230 AD and seitan around 500 - 700 AD and soy sauce (a stable ingredient in east-asian cuisine) was even created B.C. I think it’s fair to say China should get the credit they deserve.

I had those vegan chicken drums in Malaysia. Both Thailand and Malaysia have Buddhist vegetarian eating places whose quality and service range from very basic, though the quality of the food is always very high but you may have to sit on plastic stools and may have to share your table with others. Many are self service and you pay according to the quantity you put in your plate. They are the original creators of mock meat and fish. If you have the chance, it would be great to spend a few weeks in South East Asia to try their healthy and delicious food and don't forget a cameraman, you'll get plenty of ideas! I would love to watch a series where you travel around the world hunting for great vegan food!

I don't understand why people try to replicate meat when they are trying to be vegan, simply go for good vegetables, fruits, eggless breads or rice simple!

I'm a vegetarian (but I only eat ghee) and I suggest to try Indian dishes..since most of the Indian are vegetarians you would have plenty of mouthwatering dishes and street foods..you'll never go back or think of meat... and they are very healthy...most of the dishes are a mix of pulses, veggies, lentils, sprouts etc....

This looks similar to Soya chaap( Indian vegan soy food). Soya chaap is really very tasty, do try it if it's available in your place.
