  • After weeks of testing my own variation on this recipe, I think I've made the most realistic vegan chicken recipe ever. These chicken drumsticks are made from tofu skins, and look so real that it is hard to believe that they are vegan.

    By the way, soaking the tofu skin in cold water for a longer period of time will change the texture of the Tofu skin to have more elasticity. Hot water will shrink the time for hydration period, but the tofu skin will have a more floppy texture. The cold water texture, you can definitely try out for other recipes.

      Canned young jack fruit pieces that you have rinsed Several times after smashing them. Boil them in clean salted water for about ten minutes. Then rinse them again and simmer another ten minutes in a double strength chick'un broth and proceed as usual. It Amazing. I use the brown dry pack young jack fruit similarly with nobeef broth for pot roast. You can Barely tell it isn't the real thing. My dyed-in-the-wool carnivore husband LOVES both of tbese.

    YESSS!! I just discovered "tofu skins" and "soy chops", which are texturally similar, but the chops look like a small patty. I cannot believe the texture from these!! And it's only like two ingredients, and ridiculously perfect texture. Same w the rice paper. I never need to over-pay for Impossible/Beyond meat substitutes again. This taste better (depending on what flavor YOU add), and more importantly, has wayyyyy better texture than any plant-based protein I've had before. SO good!!

    When you soak the tofu skin, can you add stock or bouillon at this stage so that the flavour is drawn in to rehydrate the strands ?

    They l👀k amazing! The tofu skin I get here (U.K.) is flat, more like a sheet of it than strips, but it would still work for these juicey drummers.
    I was thinking of your bacon, last time I bought these skins and now I have managed to get rice paper too!
    Hows about put a few small thin random slices of the tofu skin between the rice paper, where you sprinkle a bit of crumbled tofu in your recipe, that might give a more fleshy texture alongside the crisp… could be good…?

    • @EdgyVeg

    These look SO GOOD! I'm thinking about a turkey substitute for Thanksgiving, and would love to make it gluten free. I wonder if I can combine this recipe with the Vegan Turkey Roast recipe (avoiding use of seitan) from last year. Any thoughts?

    • @EdgyVeg
      @EdgyVeg  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The seitan is really what holds that recipe together, I don't suggest leaving it out. You would try using this recipe to make drumsticks and make them larger as a turkey substitute
