First time commenting... I like this practical type of video A LOT. It's very caring and something women need to hear. I'm almost 62 and have been consistently in the gym lifting since my mid 20s. I wondered if I could do this challenge? We lift heavy but don't usually walk around with it or hold it longer than 8-12 repetitions. I did it! I loaded a barbell equalling 90lbs (75% of 120lbs) and walked it around for 1 minute. It wasn't easy at the end, but I did it. Thanks!
I’m 80 years old. I practice weightlifting with women half my age 2-3 times a week for an hour on a consistent basis. It has transformed my life as I can do almost everything I could at 40. Highly recommend this for all women at all ages. It is transformational.
I really love how you said that you practice weightlifting. I think that's how we all need to go about it, as if we are practicing and not trying to be professionals. I think you've inspired a video idea for me! 😘
How long ago did you start? I have a stress fracture on my tibia 😳 at 47!!!😮 It's not common and I have an appointment with a rheumatologist to find out what is going on with my bones. But I have been reading up about it and weight lifting is actually really important for your bone density, I thought that I was fine, I spent 15 years in the film industry as a camera assistant carrying heavy gear around all day. I will need to do a bunch of tests and take better care of my health in the future.
@@anaalves3658 I lifted some weights starting around 65, but really got into it all after 70. I don’t do really heavy weights, just a lot of repetitions. The most weight I do is 40 pounds on a barbell and that is for squats. I really think any age is good for weight lifting and I encourage you to get started on a regular basis. I think that and maybe hormone replacement will really help. And you will be starting a lot earlier than I did!
Thought of this today when I came home from the grocery. We live in the furthest apartment. I carried all of the groceries (didn't use the cart). It really makes a difference in my griping once I think of the discomfort as bettering my health.
I am 73. I began strength training in the past two years, though I have always worked out. I haven’t tried carries with more than 40lbs, but I bench 75lbs. I am going to work on increasing this weight. Thanks!
Probably is a coincidence, but my aunt (if God allowed it) will turn 97 this November. It is crazy, but she operates a food stand, in my third world country. She still carries heavy objects, like pots with "mondongo", meat and bags of flour. The pots she carried for a long path, to the street.
PREACH? Strength training has been life changing. Core strength exercises are essential. Everything is easier & I feel great. I started at 58. Oh, and I lost 15 pounds.
You are doing a wonderful service to women speaking on these important topics . I often wish more with fashion and beauty platforms, would do this once in awhile( because it’s pretty much the same people who are following all the female docs and exercise enthusiasts who encourage these practices ) but we can reach more ladies and save more lives by sharing a message of strength all across the board. Thanks and have a super day ❤
This is great. I’m turning 40 this year. We have this massive water container for our chickens and when full, it’s very difficult to carry across the yard to their coop. I’m going to start appreciating the challenge this chore offers me! I actually love hauling wood for the fire too. Benefits to country living!
Kitty litter box is in the basement. Carrying litter from the store to downstairs and Carrying dirty litter upstairs to the trash is heavy lifting. THANK YOU CATS. You make me willing to carry stuff for you.
Heck yeah, strength is so important! I lost about 20 lbs of muscle when I was severely sick with covid in 2020. My doctor recommended a trainer who specializes in rehabilitation. Best thing I ever did. She doesn't have me do cardio except for warmup. I've never been stronger or had better balance. I'm 46.
Ooh, thank you so much for posting this comment! 🤩🙏 I lost a lot of muscle in 2020/2021 due to Covid, too, and have only recovered a little of it. (My thighs are still a lot skinnier than they used to be.) I hadn’t thought of a rehab trainer. I also have osteoporosis in my lumbar spine. I’m 65.
Great video and real message! I weight train at home and NEVER thought about specifically incorporating carry heavy weight for 1 minute. BTW- I just turned 65! Truly fierce old lady!
I just discovered you and I'm excited to begin today! I am 71 and I'm extremely worried about my diminishing strength and dependency on my family. So I need to begin by setting a timer as you suggested and carry those gallons of water for 1 min throughout the house. Thank you and I look forward to your next video!❤
You must be prescient! Five weeks ago I started lifting heavy weights (with a trainer, I'm 78 yo) and can already see and feel a difference. I don't walk around with them, but will start to next week, just to see what I can do now and to try and increase the weight every week. My life as I knew it when up in flames in my late forties, and I was forced to get job "temporarily". My son worked in a kitchen that was always looking for help, and there I became a prep cook. I have been looking into this very recently, I am recovering from a stress fracture on my tibia 😳, which is uncommon at my age, I'm 47. Some forms of exercise are much better for your bone health than others, weight lifting or bearing are the best for growing and sustaining healthy bones. Running actually is not that great, swimming is detrimental to your bones as you are floating in the water and not carrying your own body weight. All exercise has health benefits, but if bone health is what you are aiming to improve, picking up heavy stuff is the way to go.
Thank you for your wise words, Diana. Strength is so important! I have an aged friend who is going into care because he cannot do up shirt buttons or cut bread now due to a lack of strength. I am 61 & joined a gym to get stronger as that is a future that frightens me. Kittens in Ikea bags are adorable ❤. Let's be honest, kittens 'anywhere' are beyond cute!
I don't know that my grip strength has increased or that the look of my body has improved, but at 57 I can most definitely carry and move much more weight than I could 20 years ago. I don't lift weights, but in 2016 my husband and I bought some land and started to build a farm, including the house and expanding to gardening and livestock. I usually measure the amount I can carry in terms of 2x4s or 2x6s and compare it to how I did when we started. Recently we sold the house we had been slowly moving out of since the farmhouse became done enough to be livable (built as we had the cash to do so). I had a fire safe in that house which, when I moved in, not only could I not carry it, but just moving it was a chore. Moving out a couple months ago, I picked the whole thing up and moved it to the other end of the house and into this house. I was so proud of myself. For context, I have fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, and wrist injuries going back to age 20.
Here in Asheville NC we don’t have potable water yet do I grabbed two 2.5 gallon containers (42lbs) and walked from kitchen to bedroom and back. DONE and totally doable daily, thank you!
I applaud what you are saying. I appreciate your encouragement in pushing people to give it their best. I know I am an outlier but due to an accident to my back at 45, picking up a gallon of water is the dream! I am working toward it-one ounce at a time. Don’t laugh! Progress is better than nothing. 😊❤
You are SO RIGHT!! Thank you for this crucial message. So many older people just let themselves wither away. Very sad, and it’s avoidable in most cases
I figured out that carrying my groceries home and doing bicep curls with the bags works wonders. i also raise my arms to the front and sides whilst holding my stomach for as long as I can. Bonus is that by the time I get home my bags are light as a feather.
LOL "Don't turn this off" had me laughing so hard, I had to pause the video!! And yes, while I know that strength training or weightlifting is important, I have never thought of doing something this simple! Thank you for the tip and for emphasizing its significant effects. Also, kitten time is very important for a quality life experience, so thank you for sharing bits of them with us!
I’ve always used weights when working out….Denise Austin (back in the day), Jillian Michaels…but when I started lifting heavy weights? That’s when my body really started to change! I love it! I do Caroline Girvan’s free programs on TH-cam. I feel like a warrior afterwards and it has also changed my mindset--I no longer want to be skinny…I want to be strong. Strength over skinny. The MOST important thing a woman can do for longevity!❤❤😊
To be fair, I've gotten slightly skinnier after starting to lift. Basal metabolism rising and all that. Muscles are more defined but my waist is smaller. I'll take it!
Callan Pinckney developed a set of exercises that combined ballet and what was then known as simply calisthenics. She named her method Callanetics. It was based on the idea of using the body as the weight of the resistance training. I believe it was one of the precursors to Pilates. It taught to maximize the muscle tension and then make micro movements at high repetitions. The premise is similar what you share here. Muscle strengthening! Being able to maneuver our own weight is critical! In her book intro, she said that meet use of additional weights actually lessened the benefited and caused strain. I'm gonna lean into yours and her ideas. Thank you! I do have a pull up exercise bar that i use for decompressing my back. I'll use it more extensively now. 💐
I lift my heavy grocery bags but probably not often enough. I also do a weightlifting routine three days a week......but I should use heavier weights! You have inspired me.
Great messaging. Weights help fend off bone loss as well. I’ve been doing weight work for years - and at 63 I am strong - but can attest to how quickly we lose strength and balance. Lastly, big vote for strength- be sure you can get yourself up off the floor - falls happen with aging. Thanks again - love to those precious kitty babies.
Thanks so much for this information! It's so true, and we don't think about how important those things are that we take for granted, like opening jars and doors. The day will come when we are put to the test and no one is around to help us. 🥰
I can't tell you how much I needed this video and the amazing comments here. I am currently recovering from a stress fracture on my tibia 😳 and I have to get tests done to find out what is going on with my bones. I am walking around with a crutch 🩼 and I feel like my quality of life has been severely effected. As soon as I can put my own body weight on my leg again I'm going to start carrying heavier stuff around, i might start with my cat in an IKEA bag 😂😂😂😂. Pick up heavy stuff ladies! It's for your benefit 😊
I've been putting this off, I was on holiday and when I tried to get my too heavy case off the carousel I lost my balance and almost killed a man. 😂 Needed to hear this today!
Thank you for this PSA, I love this simple and quick idea. Weight bearing also helps prevent bone loss! I have an on and off again relationship with strength training. Have never found something that I stick with for more than a couple months. I DO do a lot of homestead/garden work, like move concrete blocks and feed bags etc. Each concrete block is 51 lbs, feed bags are 40-50lbs. So I do this a bit, but not regularly, and I can't imagine doing more than the 50lbs at this point! I will try to incorporate it on a regular basis, otherwise, I know that there will come a point where I won't be able to do this kind of work. And I don't want that to happen.
I just noticed at 42 that my legs are weaker than before and my joints are protesting the absence of regular dance training this fall( decided to skip my class for half a year to save some money). I was a little shocked at the change, but I’m motivated to reverse the trend.
I'm 70, retired and love walking outdoors daily, rain or shine. I pick up trash sometimes in the huge industrial/municipal park behind where I live. I can walk the bike path and through the woods nearby in another direction. I signed my old car over to my grandnephew and haven't replaced it because almost everything I need is within walking distance. I'm in a small apartment now and own a cart for the small grocery store nearby but prefer to use Kroger Boost to have groceries delivered; it's cheap and I LOVE it. We also have great bus service where I live in SW Ohio, and I can hit three different malls if I get bored. I did plenty of traveling when I was younger and saw and did plenty back in the day and don't care about travel anymore. I don't miss the hot and heavy yard work I used to do for years; in truth, it about killed me and was hell on the skin. When the weather here in Ohio is especially bad, I stay in and exercise to DVD's. I use stretchy bands and some weights. It is NOT necessary at my age to lift excessive weight, and sorry, but no way in hell am I ever gonna get a trainer or join a gym. I did the gym thing years ago and frankly always hated the crowded atmosphere. It was okay when they did ladies days/mens days, but honestly, I dislike the crowds, and it strikes me that gyms are sleazy, germy and the ideal place to catch something, lol. I'm rarely sick, not even a cold. I'd advise that as you age, especially if you're single/divorced with no kids or grandkids that it's smart to divest yourself of unnecessary household goods and anything heavy you truly don't need anymore. Give things away or sell them. I'm not a minimalist but I sure hate clutter. One thing I found out is that my nieces and nephews really don't want any of my crap, but I knew from experience when my mom died back in 2018 with Alzheimer's that NOBODY wanted her nice furniture, china, jewelry, etc. Even with a garage sale, I still ended up donating so much to a thrift store.
Diana, you are great! I'm going to be 78 next week - alive is good! I love your channel. I'm cutening (made that word up) because of being inspired by you. You are refreshing, truthful and inspirational. When are your Zoe 14k gold filled shell earrings coming back? I want some. I went to France for 3 weeks in September, packed a bunch of cute dresses and didn't wear any of them because it was too cold. It even hailed one day in Paris. Good thing I had some comfortable jeans and layered my tops to stay warm. Had a good time anyway.🙂 Thanks, Jane B
Hi Jane! Thank you! Glad to hear of your cutening! 😁 I really want to make more of those earrings, but the last time I went back to my supplier. They did not have those shells! Devastating! I will certainly keep my eye out more someday, but as of right now I don't have any more.
I thought you were going to say squats! They also make a massive difference to balance and strength and you can combine with a kettlebell or dumbbell too. Great video as always and great advice - thanks! 🙏 🏋️♂️🏋️♀️🏋🏼
I’m 47. Ive been doing some dumbbell workouts with 4kg weights but I hadn’t heard about carrying heavy weights and walking around. I just did it with my heaviest dumbbells (8kgs) and I will look for heavier things as it gets easier. Thanks for the reminder.
kitties prefer living in bags! and boxes.. and under the blanket of my bed to give me a heart attack 🥰 great video! such an important topic. my 75 year old mother has **finally** accepted the fact that she needs to lift heavy things. also, thank you diane, for sharing your kittens with us!
Depending on the gym you go to they might have farmer's walk handles. It is 2 bars with handles that you put whatever weight you want. I think it is more comfortable than 1 bar across your hips. Also kettlebells are great for this. I would also recommend carrying one-handed. It is called suitcase carry.
Great advice. Been wondering what to do about grip issues which were not there 3 years ago. The deterioration is so insidious it's alarming. Thank youuuuuuuuu ❤
Excellent video, Diana! On point. People really do overcomplicate things and I'm glad you don't. No excuses. Lifting weight and moving are not complicated nor time consuming. Love this video!❤
Because of this video, I'm looking into joining a gym 1/2 mile from where I live. I'm feeling really positive about this. Diana, I'm so glad I found this channel: it's really changing my live. P.S. wearing a silk scarf...around my neck! Thank you!
Girrrrrrrrrl YES!!!! Weight training is everything. Love love love love everything about the benefits. ❤❤❤ thank u for sharing 🥰 ur content is always 🔥 a reflection of u.
I have two total wrist fusions. That long process had me knowing, the hard way, what life is like without use of wrist/hand/grip strength. It is awful. Before my last surgery, I had my physical therapist tell me what my grip strength "age" was in the charts. She didn't want to but I'm weird, with a dark sense of humor, so why wouldn't I, at age 46, want to know how old my grip was, with basically no cartilage left causing severe pain? We looked it up... and I was a strong as a 6 year old, or a 73 year old. Egads. I can attest to it being a daily life functioning problem. I couldn't even put a small stack of plates up. Now, granted, there was more going on for me on the insides, thanks to osteoarthritis, but still. Good video, great goal, awesome baby step encouragement!
I am 77, and I LOVE your blog! I agree with strength. My exercise routine involves aerobics, strength , yoga and restoration. It all helps so much. What great advice.
I’ve been strength training for 5 years. I’m 64 now and I feel great. My posture is good, my arms look and feel strong, my ankles never “twist”, I can get off the toilet with ease, I can take long hikes, I feel mentally strong. I work out on TH-cam to Senior Fitness with Meredith, Improved Health (with Jules), SeniorShape Fitness. Can’t recommend it enough! ❤️
This is so important Diana, thank you! I've been doing strength and weight training with resistance bands and free weights for a few years now (up to 20kg) and it's helped me so much! I think I'll add a long bar and a few more weight plates to my Xmas wish list so I can up the weight and give this a go. PS kittens in bags are too adorable for words! 😍😊
Thank you for this advice. I'm hearing you loud and clear. I do an essentrics workout most days which does not incorporate weight except to use muscle resistance as you move your body. I like your idea because I've noticed that I can't always turn the lids off jars and that some of my serving bowls and pots seem heavier than they used to be. I'm going to get two IKEA bags and look around for a heavy object to store in each of them so I can "lift" whenever I have a minute. You're right.... there are lots of minutes when you're excited about finding them. xo karen
I started yoga a few years ago, and I think the strength from that practice has been awesome, but I haven't ever done weightlifting (see side-note about hearing I would bulk up and develop weight-lifter's neck/shoulders). Will now begin carrying heavy things on the daily - thanks for the tip!!
Perfect timing! I have been reading/listening to the same advice, and have been actively looking for a strength training program. This is about the simplest and easiest way to start. Thank you for the nudge!
Yes!!! I’m 51 and I’ve recently started lifting heavy! I’m doing it to improve my bone density. May I ask the podcasts you watched about weight lifting?
I just started training in February… I had to get a personal trainer and start with stability exercises and body weight things first, because I have been too sedentary since I was a teenager and was very out of shape… but I can now bench press 60 lbs, deadlift 85 lbs, do farmer’s carry with 80 lbs (2 large dumbells) etc. It’s a long process that takes years but I am really proud of myself. I’m 37 and I always wanted to get fit but never did it so this is a serious focus in my life now. My husband started at the same time and it’s a great project for us as a couple. Edit: these are the weights I can do 15 reps of or 1 min for the farmer’s carry, not 1 rep max.
Within the last year I started strength training with low weights, but this heavily weighted movement is new to me! I don't have barbells, but I have chopped wood around-- so filling up a bag with that and here we go! Thanks for this simple and important information. I do think that focusing on your health is the first step to being stylish.
Haha. I live on the third floor, no elevator. I am 71. I wish I weighed a little less, but I am in good health. I am also a 16 year vegan. I try to be WFPB as much as possible. Ditch the processed foods.
40 here. My 2,5 year old toddler would secretly and diabolically laugh if he would listed to your video, while I'm trying to get him used to no not being carried around anymore. "But mama, it's good for you!" 😅
I thought I knew a lot about exercise but this is new info for me. My father injured his back when he was about my age and lived in near constant pain for the rest of his life; I've become overly worried about picking up heavy things as I got older for that reason. I need to re-think this. Thanks, Diana. You look fabulous!
Ok. heres a crazy thing: my mother, who's 64, STILL tells me that i shouldn't lift heavy things because Uterus. I know that most women today know this isn't true but its SHOCKING how many women have been lied to and still defend these lies. I've carried heavy most if my life because i take jobs that are pretty labour-intensive, carrying boxes, setting up displays and sets, carrying heavy equipment and art and production supplies and other things. I also lift and have never had anything but positive experiences from it. I have never had a car, i cycle or walk or take transit so i'm often loaded up. It makes me SO sad that she wont change her mind no matter how much i try to explain it to her. I am constantly worried for her health.
My mom is the same age and she doesn’t even have an excuse but going on a walk or eating less is just something she absolutely refuses to do. She has a lot of severe medical problems from her lifestyle choices. She tries to shame me about working out or tell me to stay at least 20-25lbs overweight because I look “better” that way. 😑 I’m not listening to a thing she says but it’s agony that she ever says it.
Every day I carry ten litres of water from one to two hundred meters and have done for years. When others have offered to help I refuse explaining its to keep my strength up. I also rise with the sun and go to bed early. Most folk are surprised when they find out my age. So I love that you’ve covered some of this👏👏👏

"This is the Broccoli of advice"" = laughed out loud!!
Nah, this advice is prime rib!🥩

You got this! 😘
My workout is mowing our lawn with a manual lawn mower😂. First the pushing then the pickup is a great workout😊
Gardening is such good work! Good for the body, the soul and the plants!

I love your story! Yay for reinvention!
Quite simply and in summary....move it or lose it! And besides, it feels wonderful to be strong.
💯!
Wow! 💥💥💥
Thank you. Retired Occupational Therapist here.
Here in Asheville NC we don’t have potable water yet do I grabbed two 2.5 gallon containers (42lbs) and walked from kitchen to bedroom and back. DONE and totally doable daily, thank you!
Simone, you are an inspiration. Your humor and resolve in the face of a natural horror are fabulous!
You’re very kind! We’re luckier than many but it’s a long road ahead for all.
Good for you! Hope you accomplish your goal.
So true!
Wow! I’m so inspired. At 74 (!) I’m noticing too many things are getting more difficult. Thank you!
You got this!
You are SO RIGHT!! Thank you for this crucial message. So many older people just let themselves wither away. Very sad, and it’s avoidable in most cases
Yep. Like the cowboy story of "lift a calf every day and at some point you'll be able to lift a cow." Probably not true, but sounds entertaining.
I like that. I'm going to start using that in casual conversation! 😆
Kettlebells are fantastic and can be put anyplace and not roll away!!
A gallon of milk weighs 8 pounds
I figured out that carrying my groceries home and doing bicep curls with the bags works wonders. i also raise my arms to the front and sides whilst holding my stomach for as long as I can. Bonus is that by the time I get home my bags are light as a feather.
Well I tried lifting heavier than I have, because of you. I lifted 24lbs today!! Lol.
(12 lbs dumbbells) it's a start
Yay! You started!
@@unblahyourself My heaviest has been 10lb dumbbells'. I'm moving up!!
😘
I’ve always used weights when working out….Denise Austin (back in the day), Jillian Michaels…but when I started lifting heavy weights? That’s when my body really started to change! I love it! I do Caroline Girvan’s free programs on TH-cam. I feel like a warrior afterwards and it has also changed my mindset--I no longer want to be skinny…I want to be strong. Strength over skinny. The MOST important thing a woman can do for longevity!❤❤😊
Yes ma'am! I love feeling strong!!!!
Yes! 💯💥💥💥
To be fair, I've gotten slightly skinnier after starting to lift. Basal metabolism rising and all that. Muscles are more defined but my waist is smaller. I'll take it!
@@PhoenixAurelius-138 That’s the right kind of change! Putting muscle in the right places and leaning out. Awesome!!!
She is absolutely right. Over 60 and back at the gym.❤
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I lift my heavy grocery bags but probably not often enough. I also do a weightlifting routine three days a week......but I should use heavier weights! You have inspired me.
Yay!
You are so right! Strength equals health!
Yes yes yes!
I've been putting this off, I was on holiday and when I tried to get my too heavy case off the carousel I lost my balance and almost killed a man. 😂 Needed to hear this today!
@@auroracharming5531 oh nooooooo 😅
Excellent advice. Grip strength and gait directly correlates to risk of dementia.
Great! I am going to start. I have started laying down up against a wall, legs up...couple minutes at night. So helpful and healthy too
I just noticed at 42 that my legs are weaker than before and my joints are protesting the absence of regular dance training this fall( decided to skip my class for half a year to save some money). I was a little shocked at the change, but I’m motivated to reverse the trend.
*grip strength* the necessary thing for grabbing kittens as they climb the curtains. Lol.
broccoli of advice?!?! (fists to the heavens) (kicks rock) fine...
Core exercises are excellent when you get older to strengthen your pelvic floor. I have started going back to the gym and I feel great.
Yes!!
Squats are great. Jumping is great. I certainly don't want to overwhelm beginners with all these great things they can do but there's so many!
Also flexability is important. You’re lovely to watch. Thx for these very cute videos. 🥰💕🐶💕🥰
I’m 47. Ive been doing some dumbbell workouts with 4kg weights but I hadn’t heard about carrying heavy weights and walking around. I just did it with my heaviest dumbbells (8kgs) and I will look for heavier things as it gets easier. Thanks for the reminder.
This is good news, I am always carrying heavy things.😀
Thank you! Health is beautiful!❤
kitties prefer living in bags! and boxes.. and under the blanket of my bed to give me a heart attack 🥰 great video! such an important topic. my 75 year old mother has **finally** accepted the fact that she needs to lift heavy things. also, thank you diane, for sharing your kittens with us!
So glad that you adopted 2 kittens!!! Best for them and 100 tunes the laughs v for you!!!
These are foster kitties! They'll get adopted by a wonderful family and then I'll have more!
There are also hand squeezing devices you can do anywhere anytime but then you don't get the whole-body effect.
Excellent video, Diana! On point. People really do overcomplicate things and I'm glad you don't. No excuses. Lifting weight and moving are not complicated nor time consuming. Love this video!❤
Thanks so much!!
Because of this video, I'm looking into joining a gym 1/2 mile from where I live. I'm feeling really positive about this. Diana, I'm so glad I found this channel: it's really changing my live. P.S. wearing a silk scarf...around my neck! Thank you!
I'm so happy to hear that! I'm glad you're here!
Girrrrrrrrrl YES!!!!
Weight training is everything. Love love love love everything about the benefits. ❤❤❤ thank u for sharing 🥰 ur content is always 🔥 a reflection of u.
Thank you so much!
Barometer is a perfect word in this case.
Unfortunately I have just had a double prolapse repair and have been told to never ever lift anything heavy again, or risk another prolapse
Yes, me too - and I’ve always lifted heavy weights and been strong …
🧚♀️❤️🐝🇦🇺
😘
I am 77, and I LOVE your blog! I agree with strength. My exercise routine involves aerobics, strength , yoga and restoration. It all helps so much. What great advice.
I'm glad you like it! 😊 thanks for hanging out with me!
Thanks for the recommendation!
Bags of books!
Good idea!
This is great! Thank you for the info, and for the visuals! I’m 70, and I know how important balance and strength are for overall physical health!
❤️😘❤️
The kittens are hilarious and adorable! 😂
Thank you for your upbeat personality and expressing it. This really is very important. And much older and playing catch-up.
You can do it!
Yes ! I can and I will
Diana you are reliably awesome. Great useful idea, inspired. X
Thank you so much. I have already noticed that I am unable to do many things and this timely advise will certainly help.
You can do it!
best advice ever😊
Thank you for this advice. I'm hearing you loud and clear. I do an essentrics workout most days which does not incorporate weight except to use muscle resistance as you move your body. I like your idea because I've noticed that I can't always turn the lids off jars and that some of my serving bowls and pots seem heavier than they used to be. I'm going to get two IKEA bags and look around for a heavy object to store in each of them so I can "lift" whenever I have a minute. You're right.... there are lots of minutes when you're excited about finding them. xo karen
60, and just been diagnosed with arthritis- been dropping things all summer- can't do this atm. But maybe I could do something else 🤔
Or start really light?
I started yoga a few years ago, and I think the strength from that practice has been awesome, but I haven't ever done weightlifting (see side-note about hearing I would bulk up and develop weight-lifter's neck/shoulders). Will now begin carrying heavy things on the daily - thanks for the tip!!
Wonderful!
Perfect timing! I have been reading/listening to the same advice, and have been actively looking for a strength training program. This is about the simplest and easiest way to start. Thank you for the nudge!
Glad it was helpful!
Fabulous video. Concise. Informative. Important. Thankyou. (& kittens. Whats not to like !)
😘
Great advice! ❤
Yes!!! I’m 51 and I’ve recently started lifting heavy! I’m doing it to improve my bone density. May I ask the podcasts you watched about weight lifting?
I tried to find the ones that I watched, but I can't find them now. Try Googling, "75%body weight Farmers Carry challenge"
Ahhh! I love it! ❤️❤️❤️
Awesome! You are correct!❤❤❤❤❤
Within the last year I started strength training with low weights, but this heavily weighted movement is new to me! I don't have barbells, but I have chopped wood around-- so filling up a bag with that and here we go! Thanks for this simple and important information. I do think that focusing on your health is the first step to being stylish.
Thank you for this advice.
😘
I'm on it! Just joined VShred and got the coach. Thanks for the nudge!
Love gym time of course it's 1000x more effective to find a buddy to with thnkfully my hubby is getting into it finally!!
I can't believe you are the only one at your gym!! Wow. That's nice!!
It was an awkward time of day. Usually it's packed!
Random video suggestion for me - but may i point out that your eyebrows are ON POINT!!! 😉
Thanks 😅
Haha. I live on the third floor, no elevator. I am 71. I wish I weighed a little less, but I am in good health. I am also a 16 year vegan. I try to be WFPB as much as possible. Ditch the processed foods.
You're doing great! So many people start avoiding stairs, but that's the beginning of the end of health.
40 here. My 2,5 year old toddler would secretly and diabolically laugh if he would listed to your video, while I'm trying to get him used to no not being carried around anymore. "But mama, it's good for you!" 😅
Well he's got a point! 🤣
I thought I knew a lot about exercise but this is new info for me. My father injured his back when he was about my age and lived in near constant pain for the rest of his life; I've become overly worried about picking up heavy things as I got older for that reason. I need to re-think this. Thanks, Diana. You look fabulous!
Onto it! Thank you for the reminder🌸
❤Thank you. I had no idea. I’m older, admittedly, but maybe it will add a few benefits anyway.
Absolutely! Start anytime!
You are my inspiration. I’m looking for something heavy in the house to carry for one minute as soon as this video ends 😊❤
You can do it!
Yes will try this
Important stuff, well said!
Ok. heres a crazy thing: my mother, who's 64, STILL tells me that i shouldn't lift heavy things because Uterus.
Yep. How do people think that women carry their babies in their womb and all the fluid!?!
We are built for “load-bearing”!
Aw, I know! Deeply ingrained ideas are hard to change! We women are digging ourselves out of these lies now. ❤️
@@HeatherHasGame I understand and am sorry, it’s tough to watch that.
Every day I carry ten litres of water from one to two hundred meters and have done for years. When others have offered to help I refuse explaining its to keep my strength up. I also rise with the sun and go to bed early. Most folk are surprised when they find out my age. So I love that you’ve covered some of this👏👏👏
Diana, I am so inspired. Thank you.
I'm so glad! 😘
WOW Dianna, your videos always come at the right time for me, I always learn so much from you, you are my helpful friend when I need one 😊
You are so welcome. 😘
