This is the kind of authenticity and mindset I have always looked for in the context of beauty and wellness on TH-cam. I'm very conscious about the kind of content I consume and so I initially completely gave up watching beauty related videos on here (even though it's my jam) because it was always very shallow and did not align with my beliefs. I'm so glad I finally found a beauty channel I can fully enjoy watching!

Fully echo this sentiment! Diana is a breath of fresh air.
I got so tired of the sameness of fashion channels that I ditched them all. Too much consumerism, or boring minimalism, or just the cheapest fast fashion! I want style, not trends! I mean, who else will help me become my inner librarian dominatrix using thrifted items?!? 😉😂

I have a friend who is homely at best according to classical beauty standards, but she is one of the most beautiful people I know. She has a great sense of style, but more importantly, she is genuinely interested in the people around her, a great listener, and truly kind. When you spend time with her you feel seen and appreciated. What can be more attractive than that? When I first met her, I thought ugly. Now when I see her, I see beauty.

My mom ad a friend like that… she has passed on now… but I remember how beautiful she was to me. And how beautiful she made me feel bc she always radiated the purest love. To this day if anyone asks me who the most beautiful woman I ever saw/know is… I say Mrs. Myers, I tell them that i could not do justice describing her beauty but that it was almost other worldly like a living angel.

Diana, my eye is always drawn to beauty, and every time I see a beautiful woman, I tell her how lovely she is. One time, I was in a restaurant, and I could not take my eyes off the most elegant woman I have ever seen. At the end of my meal, I stopped by her table to tell her how elegant she was. She was over 80 years old, and she looked absolutely stunning! So don't let anyone tell you that beauty fades. It can evolve if you make the effort.

I know you talk about French girl style but your humour is actually quite British. ...you make me laugh while talking absolute sense, you are a star. 'I can't even fly' ....😅 ...'plastic surgery - If you want your art to cost a lot of money and be painful' 🤣 I love your 5 ways of being pretty. I was running through Wimbledon recently and stopped at a road crossing. Sweating, wearing lycra, hair all over the place, not a good look for a 56 yo woman. The lady next to me and said wow, what's that perfume you're wearing, it smells lovely. I was, frankly, aghast. So even when you don't necessarily see yourself as put together you can still seem so to others. I felt pretty all the way home 🙂 Finally, active kindness and generosity...this is gold dust. Keep doing what you do Diana its wonderful

      😉That's a great moment. I remember a time when clothes shopping🛍 w/my beloved mom🥰 in the 90s.
😖Was admittedly a somewhat spoiled 20something, sulking dramatically over our incredibly long line & slow register after a long day.
Not saying much in a royal blue trouser suit, but speaking volumes w/my silent eye rolls & silly expressions to entertain her. 👠My discomfort in high heels coupled w/growing impatience inspired me to be more theatrical. Moved to a wide stance w/my hands firmly planted on my hips.
Moments later this gentleman came over from across the floor & said to her: "Your daughter looks like ★Wonder Woman★... about to twirl & go off to fight some crime."
😊We all had a good laugh. Lovely to be likened to the beautiful 📺 Lynda Carter, but embarrassing😳 to be caught out by a complete stranger in the midst of a silly tantrum.
Lesson: Be aware of how you act (& what you're projecting) at all times. You never know who is 👁👁watching...

What you say about mirrors (and I feel photos etc fall into that too) is so true. I've often gone out, dressed nicely, felt pretty and had a great time, only to see photos later on and be crushed by how little I looked like what I thought I did. Or you're doing great, strolling along, thinking you're killing it until you catch sight of yourself in a shop window and be totally knocked down by what you see not matching how you feel = mood ruined. Yet if I had never seen that, I would have continued feeling good and confident. So, less mirrors please!

I have tried over the years to explain happiness and contentment to people who can't seem to access that feeling. I get a huge amount of joy in the worlds smallest joys...flowers, bees, wildlife, children, sunshine, ants, silly sounds, waterfalls...you name it. When I access the tiny little things in life, my looks don't matter. I think the most attractive trait someone can have, is total acceptance and contentment.

    • @oliviastar3812

I think you've hit on such a key point there. It's the reason so many 'homely' and even (seen as) unattractive women snag men of all descriptions as faithful husbands, leaving their prettier peers on the shelf. Not that that's better but a sad but true fact. Plus it seems people go out of their way to praise less attractive women, usually for ulterior motives or to, in their minds, compensate for some perceived disadvantage. Sometimes it's cringeworthy and awkward. Seen women gushed over that clearly know something's not right/genuine.

@@doricetimko5403 😊Dear friend, it's tempting to lose heart when dealt such a blow, but I encourage you to keep the 🕊faith.
Thankfully, you successfully survived an incredibly difficult situation. The truth is our healing & recovery can take these unexpected twists & turns.
And, I've no doubt your lovely 🙂smiles😁 have cheered many folks over the ages. 😉 I have always enjoyed smiling at others too. It does feel like a 🦸‍♀️superpower⚡️way of showing empathy, interest, & support to others.
At first, I seriously felt the loss🥺 when we were required to wear masks😷 in public. I learned from that experience that a smile can be conveyed beyond that particular limitation.
🤔That was never more evident for myself. After the worst of the pandemic passed, I had over a 2.5 month stay at hospital & rehab where masks were required as a safety precaution outside of our rooms.
I found it's still possible to positively connect w/other patients & all the incredible workers even when my smile was quite hidden. Sometimes a cheerful head nod or deferential head bow will serve.
Otherwise, it's allowing your positivity or reflections of goodwill to ✨️sparkle & shine✨️ out of your wonderful eyes👁👁. Your internal look of interest, concern, & care can be remarkably effective. I was quite gratified to see that almost everyone responded in kind to my non-verbal expressions. An effective smile always goes beyond our lips anyway. Blessings.

I wish my mom or aunt or some other woman in my family had given me this advice when I was younger. I hope that doesn't sound weird. But I've been really enjoying your channel because I've been looking for some positive "parental" type content to view. It was obvious to me to look for channels like "Dad, How do I...?" because my dad actively pushed me away, but it took longer for me to see that my mom also just didn't really communicate the kinds of things to me that positive female role models do. I'm not very young anymore, but I appreciate your advice! You are right about leaning into our uniqueness and kindness. I think the times I've felt prettiest have been when I made someone laugh and they looked at me with delight, or when I did something nice for a coworker or friend.

Hi Diana, I love your channel very much, you make myself and my son laugh with your out look on life as it is very much our way of thinking about things.. Totally agree with how society and advertising are making people look inward at themselves rather than outward and getting enjoyment from doing so and helping others in return. Your foster kittens are so cute! Fantastic thing to do. I also get a lot from your makeup advise, but being a non meat eater and an animal lover I will not use make up companies such as Max and others as they test on animals, I only buy cruelty free products. But, I do frequently feel "cute," so I dress for the cutest that I can attain at 46 (thankfully my husband appreciates the cuteness). I do, however, know that I have a beautiful smile (thank you, it's paid for), and I raised my daughter with my idea that "life is hard, beauty is fleeting, but a genuine smile goes a long way in life," especially when one has a natural Resting Bad Face. 😂 Smiles make everyone so much more appealing, and they're free!

I like this. It stresses the importance of internal validation. "I feel pretty. Who cares what anyone else thinks." I don't look at photos of myself very often because all I see are imperfections and I undermine myself. Kind of like "I feel great!" Then I get on a scale, and it ruins my day. I don't get on scales. And I totally agree with you on Mr. Rogers. Occasionally, when I need to be inspired by a human being I'll watch "Won't you be my neighbor?" Sometimes I need to be reminded that I like myself, just the way I am. And so does Mr. Rogers.

I felt prettiest when once I was in Trader Joes and a little child pointed at me and said, "Look at the pretty lady!" I must have been giving off vibes of kindness.
"Decorating yourself" in your definition is the perfect explanation of why I feel so compelled to do it- it is so important for me, as a former neglected "invisible child" to treat myself as someone who is worth decorating. Plus, I just love decorating and I'm allowed to decorate myself however I want!
And yes, I have walked past people in the grocery store and smelled their dirty hair and just gagged. That is one of the worst smells in the world to me! I simply can't be around people who don't wash their hair frequently enough.

That Okcupid survey sounds legit. I'll use my favorite kpop group as an example since that is an industry that focuses very heavily on looks. My favorite member is one of the least popular members in the group, but I think he's the most handsome man in the world. I also really appreciate how talented he is and his personality makes me wish I knew him irl. I'll be his fan until they quit.
The more popular members (read: attractive in a very specific way) have an endless supply of fans, but are also some of the most fickle and toxic people you'll ever see in a fandom. They'll be the first to change their mind about who they like best or stop being fans altogether. Being "prettier" may give you more options, but often lower quality options too.

All your points are great & true. My mum used to say 'more tears have rolled down the face of a pretty girl than a plain girl's.' She was born pretty & so was I & she tried to instill in me early not to rely on looks but to develop character. She also knew how pretty looking people are often misjudged & envied. It's SO important to be loved for who we are not what we look like. Thank you for this video. I get that a clean smelling good and well groomed person is nice to be around, but to me, I see beauty in eyes and living energy in any kind of people and specially “real” people that are less financially fortunate and they don’t dwell in the overly material and appearance world. When I visit my home country of Brazil, what I most look forward to is to interact with the “common” people, being them a fisherman, a farmer, a rural artist, a simple life person… there is beauty in the authentic non assuming or physically unique I groomed , even toothless old grandmothers!… I ounce chat with a fisherman in the northeast of Brazil that he was the most delightful beautiful human I have ever met! His smile was contagious and he was missing a couple of teeth! His eyes were shinning like an ocean under the sunrise. His movements were like a slow song. He was happy as a child even though he looked ageless in his midlife. He exuded beauty!

Great video, Diana! The only time I don't feel pretty these days is during PMS. Dang hormones! I have worked on myself physically mentally and emotionally, and I would say I'm very at ease with myself; I like myself, despite the fact that most of my life people around me (and more importantly, myself) considered me very plain, even ugly. When I am PMSing, I am reminded of how easily my perception can revert back to the way i used to think, based on how I feel, how well I'm sleeping, and what my hormonal balance is like. Meditation and visualization help quite a bit. As always, I'm a work in progress.

    Brilliant video!!!
You know I always thought the word pretty was a little ambiguous and maybe even boring. In all the “choose 3 words to create your personal style” videos - you never hear pretty, but rather “beautiful” or “elegant” which seem more impactful somehow. Still I always came back to wanting the word pretty but it didn’t really work. Now I know why - I never realized until today that pretty makes MORE sense as a feeling/verb than it ever did as an adjective. Feeling pretty is individual and comes from within, versus looking pretty which I guess is about pleasing others. You have completely shifted the paradigm here in an amazing way - thank you 😊 🎉❤

What leapt to mind is a Facebook page for “Over 50 Women” (age not amount) and it seems that over fifty of them are competing like high school girls. What you describe is EXACTLY how I want to mature and evolve, although having carried extra weight all my life has challenged me in the”beauty” area so that area is a work in progress. Nonetheless-I HATE worrying about my emerging turkey waddle or the male gaze (never really had it anyway-although my son and husband think I’m okay and frankly never leave me alone…NOT complaining).
