Thanks for making this video. I’ve got a Fiat Ducato campervan which had the infamous airbag module fault. Already sent it away and paid £100 to have it repaired only for the fault to come back after a few weeks. Was tempted to get a new module but the need to proxi align it was putting me off until I watched this video which gave me the confidence to give it a go and so glad I did as all sorted now.
I know it's a long shot that you'll see this, but my Fiat 500 turbo has the issue where the mileage is blinking but the buttons on the steering wheel all function. Is this just a proxy alignment issue? I would assume so, but my stock stereo does this weird thing where it cycles itself between radio and auxiliary. I don't know if that means a faulty blue and me module or if that means a bad stereo.
Hiya, great videos! My blue and me is faulty, parasitic drain and flashing mileage, and i just want to disconnect it and replace with aftermarket stereo. How do i do this? Ive seen most of your videos but cant seem to find one with this process on (i.e. fitting the aftermarket, disconnecting blue and me permanently, proxy alignment to stop parasitic drain, getting rhe steering wheel controls to work with aftermarket). Thank you!
@@PodfootPodiatry you have to disconnect at the unit itself. Depending which after market you buy the steering wheel controls may just work. If not you can set them up via the setting in the stereo. Flashing mileage needs a proxy alignment.
Hi, great video. Is the proxi alignment the same procedure for a fiat ducato? Ideally need to find someone in Devon who can help me, I've lost the steering wheel controls and parking sensors. Alpine aftermarket head unit. Was fine but i accidentally shorted a wire installing rear camera, in drivers fuse box area! Cheers Jules

thanks you for the heads up! Yeah i believe you refered that in the video too, car has no warnings anywhere on any module as far as i know but those would be no problem because my Elm32 cable came with all the color adaptors too like the yellow one you used in the vid, again thanks for sharing your knowledge, it can ebe scary to poke around these systems when you are not used to so videos like this provide incredible knowledge for the average user that does maintenance on their own@@Love500
Love your site. Question. I have an American 2012 Fiat POP. Got it used. Mileage flashing. Bluetooth not working. Three days without starting and battery is dead. However when the battery is disconnected for a while and I reconnect it the mileage is not flashing and the Bluetooth is on and then the Bluetooth stops working and mileage starts flashing again. Any ideas other than trying the proxy alignment to see if it’s the unit? My hill start is the same problem. Replaced the switch and still doesn’t work. Another thing there is a huge electrical plug unconnected under the passenger front side of the car just hanging there. I’ve seen them on other cars. Any idea what that is for? Keep in mind this is an American Fiat left side drive.
Sounds like your blue and me is broken. If there’s anyone in the US that repairs them (unlikely) then it’s worth getting it done. Otherwise you’re better off disconnecting it at the plug and installing an aftermarket stereo. You’ll then just need to clear codes and do a proxy alignment. The plug may be a front fog light plug. Some cars have the plug but not the fog lights. It’s normally, on the uk cars a plug near the horn on your drivers side but may be different position on a US car.
Great video, thanks. I have a 2017 Fiat 500 with the 7" touchscreen installed. It has UConnect and Siri, but doesn't seem to have Carplay. Think I can activate Carplay with this kit? Thanks!
Your head unit would have to have car play in it. If you take it out it will have the car play logo on a sticker. It’s a possibility it already has it.
do i need to backup the proxy file before i do the alignment ? on my mito i just disconnected the blue&me because it started flashing the mileage and i didnt even use the thing. im asking this because if someone else wants to have it on the car in the future i would like to be able to put it back how it was from factory. thanks in advance.

Hey Paul hope you are good, I would be happy if you could help me in any way possible... My fiat 500c (Europe Version-Germany) had a battery drain issue and a not working blue & me + flashing mileage... after searching here in youtube i came across on a lot of videos where they showed how to solve it and do the proxy allignment and disconnect the blue & me.... so i went for it for the first time of my life doing anything on a car found the blue &me behind the handglove box took it out and disconnected it. The car was driving again for 2 days until i did the proxy allignment the same way you and others show in their videos....Problem now is the car is not turning on anymore after the proxy allignment and when i turn the ignition on (the car has some battery left even lights turn on but cant drive) it shows different errors like not enough fuel, ABS error and one more which i cant remember... maybe you have a solution for me?
I think that’ll be a coincidence however what you describe is either a poor battery or your main earth strap. Get your battery voltage tested and if ok consider putting a new earth strap on. There’s a video in my how to playlist of how to change the earth strap.
@Love500 I powered the battery up again and every error was gone and I could drive the car again. After 3-4 days driving it I let it stay in my garage for 2 days to see if it drains the battery again but it didn't ! I bought a multimeter now and want to check the voltage and if there is any electricity leaking when the battery is in sleep mode. Thank you so much Paul. Be blessed for your help :) One more thing though I dont know if you can tell me what that is. When starting the car there is a electric/hydraulic like sound in the left front side of the car. It happens when I open the door on the driver side and while driving when I stop accelerating. Do you have any clue what that sound might be? In some chats they guess it could be the fuel pump or something so when you stop accelerating the engine gets ready that way to accelerate again ? And that sound shall be normal....Sorry I'm a total greenhorn in terms of cars that was how I understood it maybe any idea or Is that normal? Thanks beforehand even if you should have no idea what that is or don't reply to this post🙏
Hello about to change the standard radio uconnect 5 in a 2016 facelft model, bought the same radio but with dab and nav, I have the codes will it just work putting code in or will need a proxi doing.
Hi Paul, Thanks for all info! Do you know if there is an option, or rather the possibility using MultiECUScan etc, to totally programme out the Blue & Me Module with proxy alignment? I mean rewrite data to the ECU - BCM as if were never fitted from factory and the vehicle ECU / BCM not look for it etc? I saw on another forum a guy with an Alfa Giulietta (same platform as Fiat) bought the car with Blue & Me module removed, flashing odometer etc, the chap at "the Alfa garage" (he said) did something on a laptop and stopped it flashing? Is it possible mate?
If it's unplugged or missing, you can then do a proxy alignment to electronically "remove it". You can't do that if it's plugged in though I don't believe.
Hey what's up. I hope I'm not too late to the party. I did this procedure on my 2016 Fiat 500X 2.4L I4 SOHC with MES (MultiEcuScan) 5.1 and OBDLink SX USB cable and the blue adapter and grey adapter after swapping the "second-best" stock factory radio (with the Trip button) to the "best/top-tier" factory radio (with the Nav button), but when it gets to the radio/climate portions (where the blue adapter cable is required), I get a "timeout error". It's the same error that is provided if the cable is disconnected entirely from the car, or if no or incorrect adapter is connected between the OBDLinkSX and the car. I tried restarting and resetting anything and everything, having the seatbelts connected and disconnected, having the climate control on and off, having the radio on and off, and any other combination thereof, and through multiple tries, although everything else works out great and the grey adapter is recognized and all other Proxi Alignment procedures work successfully, I always get the Timeout Error when it gets to the portion of the climate control and radio portion (the portions of the Proxi Alignment that require the blue adapter). One thing to note before I ask my question: MES does not have the 2.4L 500X as one of the vehicle options in the list, so I click the 2.0L 500X, but that shouldn't make a difference for the Proxi Alignment procedure regardless. My apologies for the long-winded message, but I wanted to be thorough. My question is thus this: would all of this indicate a faulty blue adapter cable, or is there something else that could be the culprit of this issue? Mind you, I'm supposed to take my car in for the U90 recall, and they are supposed to update and reset the tranmission PCM through a Proxi Alignment at the dealership, but I'd like to resolve this before then so they don't ding me for whatever reason or refuse service or charge me for something. Thanks in advance for your time. I appreciate you and others like you that make TH-cam University the amazing place it is
To be honest, although I've had two 500X cars as my own car, I've done very little with MES on either of them. I was aware that they use different coloured cables and it's a possibility it's faulty but are you sure it's the right cable? I would join the MeS forum on their website and have a look see if anyone else has had the problem. They also have a chart of which ECUs on which cars use which connector which will confirm you are actually using the right one. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
Great video, very helpful. Maybe you could advise me, I have been using the ELM with multiecuscan on various fiat cars I have owed over the past few years only for engine management purposes with no connection issues, I purchased a full set of adaptor cables, now I have come to use the yellow adaptor and it won't connect. Could you advise? Thanks
Elm is used on its own for steering and engine and yellow for pretty much everything else. What are you trying to connect to? Most connection issues are down to speed settings or port settings.
@@effimia3 oh I see. Connection issue is that your blue and me is broken not because MES is set up incorrectly. See my more recent video on flashing mileage.
Hi I'm considering purchasing multiecuscan software to use on my daughter's fiat 500. It definitely works ????, just purchased the obd cable and the yellow cable, also does it take long to install ie not difficult ????
Most problems are due to either using the wrong cable or the elm not being selected in the settings and having the speed set right. Should set up almost straight away.
The radio completely went out in my 2017 Fiat 500 Lounge today and my mileage is flashing now. I’ve disconnected the battery now. Will reconnect and see if that helps. If you have a touchscreen stereo, I.e. a 2016 onwards facelift car it doesn’t have blue and me. The system was replaced with uconnect which is built into the head unit. Diagnostics will tell you what is causing the flashing mileage and a proxy alignment may just fix it. Good luck

Yes it should do. I don't think it makes any difference what versions. Have a look at www.multiecuscan.net but I'm sure it will do. The proxy alignment will save you a lot of money. The purchase of the software and a set of cables will be cheaper than Fiat charge for a proxy alignment alone.

I have a set of both and both work fine. Fuel cut off not working is normally either brake light switch or a problem with the Airbag ECU but MES will give you a clue. You cannot disable Start/Stop in MES I don't believe.

Hi Paul, Thanks for all info! Do you know if there is an option, or rather the possibility using MultiECUScan etc, to totally programme out the Blue & Me Module with proxy alignment?

Maybe you could advise me, I have been using the ELM with multiecuscan on various fiat cars I have owed over the past few years only for engine management purposes with no connection issues, I purchased a full set of adaptor cables, now I have come to use the yellow adaptor and it won't connect. Hi love 500, hope you well, keep up the good work and videos great.
Can you please advise on this issue that I've now came across please, so last week our fiat 500 lounge 2008 stop and won't start a message came up saying fuel cut-off unavailable, Air bag light is on and the mileage is flashing. I've called two mechanics and all saying my air bag module ECU could be responsible. what do you thing and how can i get it fix?

Sorry, I'm a bit late replying. Without diagnostics its impossible to say for certain. It could be the ECU, it could be the speedometer (I know what you're thinking about the speedo, but trust me, it's happened to many people). YOu need to plug it in first, to narrow down what the problem is.
I’ve got exactly these symptoms on my 500L. Did for find a fix for the problem?
Hey mate! is there any point of getting the yellow cable for the fiat 500?

That’s the most likely. Have you got a charger? Try bench charging it overnight and test the voltage. Batteries don’t last long these days.

You can get them on eBay but I went to the MES website and bought them from one of their preferred suppliers. Much better quality.

If you can connect to other ECUs then it’s not a baud rate/speed connection. If you can’t connect to any then it’s trial and error. Assuming you’ve bought a decent set of cables too as they are important. Try connecting to the engine without the yellow adapter.
