  • A military guard of honour and Royal Air Force flypast marked the funeral on Saturday of Captain Sir Tom Moore, the World War Two veteran who raised millions of pounds for Britain's health service during the coronavirus pandemic.
Emotional tributes were paid at the crematorium service by his two daughters, who vowed to keep his legacy alive with the foundation set up in his name.
Moore died on February 2nd after contracting COVID-19.
In the run up to his 100th birthday last year, he had been challenged to walk 100 laps of his garden to raise a modest $1,000 £.
By the time he finished, on April 16, he had earned the support of millions in Britain and beyond, and the total raised was heading towards $39 million £ (U$54 million).
Moore was knighted by Queen Elizabeth in recognition of his efforts, while the White House said after his death that he had "inspired millions through his life and his actions."
In line with current pandemic restrictions, the funeral at Bedford Crematorium in central England was attended by just eight members of Moore's immediate family. It was televised, however.

The passing of one of the true hero's of this century. May god rest his gallant soul, and keep him in peace.
Every day we lose so many of these hero's. It is literally losing parts of our collective histories, on top of losing members of our families.
Deepest sympathies to Capt. Moore's family from one who has lost a ww2 veteran.
These people who went to war to free Europe and Asia from oppression are true hero's for their sacrifices and trauma's they suffered. That they did it willingly and without complaint should inspire us all to try to live up to the legacies these brave men and woman left us.
Weather it was bringing up people spirits during the hard times, or refurbishing bikes to see kids smile, or the countless other deeds these people have done, they deserve our never ending admiration and for us to NEVER FORGET OUR FALLEN HERO'S.

Tom was an exemplary in the way he lived his life & thought of helping others despite his advanced years. I am so glad I lived in part of his era. I was lucky enough to see his final journey as I live next door to the crematorium in bedford. Rest in Piece Tom, you have now a special place in heaven & history.
