This whole trend of gut health being the new weightloss is reminding me of the whole hesitancy to say you want to lose weight for esthetic reasons, it is all about health nowadays. I mean dont get me wrong, health should be a big reason but why did it become bad to want to look good.
Goodness yes. “I feel bloated” is (generally) the new “I feel fat.” It’s all about selling bs to people and trendy marketing. Man, I wish I could go back 15 years and tell myself not to listen to all the crap put out into the world about “health.” Thanks for another great video! ❤️
I believed for a while on the bloated thing, just because I'm "skinny" but my belly is "bigger than it should be". And I think you're absolutely right about it. I never feel like I needed to lost weight, but when bloating started to come up it had my undivided attention. Good think my attention window is not that wide, so after I start adding strengh training i kinda forget about the whole bloated thing.
I just realised this is true for me too. I've never been concerned about my belly in the past, but realised in the last months I've been complaining about being "bloated" at the beginning of the week or before my period a lot. But hey. It's always been like that, I just never thought it was important so didn't even notice it. What I find super interesting, though, is that I only follow body positive/neutral influencers with a focus on intuitive eating and scientific thinking. So the debunking that they do in their videos made me probably realise that other women have this issue and then I subconsciously subconsciously wonder if I should have this problem too. Haha, such a damned if you do and damned if you don't social media problem 🙈😅
I remember reading my mom's magazines and deciding that I needed to eat turkey, lettuce, and cottage cheese on low-cal wraps for the rest of my life. I was 12 at the time, fortunately my attention span was very short
I found the channel about 3 days ago and have been binge-watching it! I just wanted to let you know that you will keep me grounded. I tend to throw money at weight loss products since having kids. It feels so slow even though I am doing all the right things. Luckily, you are confirming this! Keep making great content. It is really helping my sanity!
I just found your channel and after 3min I am a subscriber! I have lost 86 pounds since Jan 2021 and still working on losing maybe 20-30 more... Having ACTUAL advice that is HELPFUL is rare, too many influencers trying to make money off of everyone. Thanks for being a breath of fresh air. I have the world's smallest channel (I think I have 44 subscribers) where I am documenting "what really is working for me" and so my family can see how hard I am working to lose weight and move towards becoming "not diabetic anymore". Keep up the great work!!!
I just need to say Justina that your channel is pretty much the entire reason I was able to steer clear of shit like this and actually listen to certified individuals. You’ve helped me IMMENSELY in my fitness journey of actually recognizing what’s pure shitty marketing and what’s backed in science. So thank you for that so much, I will continue to watch pretty much every video you put out with interest 🥰
These people don’t even know what bloating is! I am currently waiting for a referral to a GI because sometimes I look 8 months pregnant and it comes with a list of other symptoms.
Hey Justina! I recently started using weights (5kgs) in my workout and I ended up getting sick (fever, fatigue) everytime I worked out. Turned out I wasn't eating enough lol. Could you do a video with some tips and precautions for someone who is clueless and would like to start using weights
The only argument I could see for #1 would be for people who need assistance and are just starting, but like... you can grab the back of a chair, and use that to help you start squatting. You don't need to buy a one-use contraption. It's kind of like kitchen machines in that regard: like do you REALLY need that thing that only works in a limited, rarely encountered scenario?
In 2018, there were a LOT of "decrease bloating"/"low FODMAP diets"/"inflammation prevention" before it swung around to skinny girls calling themselves body positive for clout (nothing against skinny people being body positive, but being celebrated because you love your body in spite of a tiny bit of fat feels like a low bar to clear). Now it looks like we're back to inflammation, gut health, and keto. It's like time doesn't exist
Hey Justina, first of all thanks for another great educational video, I'm loving very much the "new" candid format! I wanted to ask you if you'd consider doing some kind of video about DXA scan and other body composition analysis tools in the future (effective reliability, cost VS benefit, the actual need to know about your stats, or lack thereof). In any case, keep being this awesome! And say hello to your beautiful cat from her number one fan. : )
Zooey says hi :) and this is a great idea for a video! But I have little to no knowledge about these types of tools so it's probably a better video for someone else to make.
@@JustinaErcole I see, and I appreciate your honest, humble and scientific approach so very much! You really are the best...after Zooey! : ) Can't wait for your next great contents!
The before and after pictures where they pull their pants up higher in the after photos to make their stomachs look smaller drive me crazy! The woman looks perfectly fine in both photos but she's clearly being dishonest.
Justina ur amazing! I wanna go to school to be a physical therapist, or nutrition. (I really wanna just have my own company one day(. And you inspire me.more and more! Also I'm from Philly too!
I love your sassy (and informative) videos! But, seriously...I wonder how many people are diagnosing themselves with severe gut issues, yet they constantly eat 'junk' food, don't drink enough water, don't work on stress management or sleep, and barely move around? That's not a gut issue, that's a whole lifestyle thing.
I’m BEGGING you to make a video on the gut protocol! I have a coworker that keeps trying to push it and I knew it was a fishy MLM diet but I don’t have the right vocabulary to explain myself when I vehemently refuse to try her powders
Can we talk more about that bellypooch and female anatomy though... I have a belly pooch and I never thought it was a problem until media made it so. I realized that it won't go away with diet and exercise pretty fast, my weight is on the low end and my musclemass decent - and I had a tummy tuck operation, so it's not just skin. So far, I have concluded that: 1. I'm short, 165cm (5'4). 2. I have proportionally long legs and a shorter upper body... But by far the most important part: 3. I HAVE A UTERUS! NO amount of 'dead bug' or 'plank' will remove that?! I hate the focus on the 'belly pooch' so much, because from my point of view, it is just another way to shame one of the most crazy amazing organs in the world. Great video (again) Justina!
I don't think having an uterus has anything to do with "belly pooch", otherwise all women would have a little bit of a tummy and that's definitely not the case. Also, if you're 1.65 m tall, you're not short at all, unless you live in one of those Northern Europe countries where the average stature is very high. And lastly, I'm sure you look amazing! Very jealous of your long legs! Don't worry about a thing, I'm willing to bet you're perfectly fine. Have a beautiful day!
@@__Tiziana__ I am exactly from a Northern Europe country, I'm a Dane :-). But it's more like... Long spideylegs and very short from hip to rib, and my uterus is on the larger side. And thank you a lot! I'm over the belly pooch attack too, my poor body don't need these weird 'shame spots'.
I think the key thing to remember here is that we're all built differently. So some women will have a flat stomach. Some women will have a little pooch because of where their uterus sits. And some women will have a pooch just because they store fat in that area. The more we can focus on how our bodies move and feel, the less we have to worry about these (mostly) unattainable aesthetic goals :)
@@MadMadMandy Okay, first of all: hello fellow European, from an Italian friend! : ) I totally understand now why you can feel a little uncomfortable from time to time, but please, remember that: 1) you're not short; 2) being short is fine; 3) if you want to spend a few days living as a really tall person, come visit my region (I'm almost 10 cm less than you and I'm actually considered average/on the taller side where I live), you'd be my guest! : ) Seriously! I'll repeat myself over the last few things: ignore this belly pooch social media stigma, because it's stupid, and focus more on the many beautiful qualities that you definitely have. Oh, and listen to Justina too! : ) I want to be honest, I didn't think the uterus thing was real! I thought that everyone had roughly the same size of the organ and that it didn't affect your physical appearance at all. I was clearly wrong! I want to apologize for being this ignorant. Oh, and please, bring your AMAZING Danish butter biscuits when you come here, okay?! I'll be waiting! :3
This bloating trend is definitely not great for me LOL I've lost 30+ pounds and kept it off, but because of the disorder I have, I hold most of my extra fat in my upper arms and belly pooch. Bloat isn't going to undo your fat!! And if you're bloating all the time, go to a DOCTOR!! That's not okay!! Why are people so obsessed with looking the exact same 24/7... If our bodies were the same 24/7, we wouldn't evolve lol
Gut health is definitely the new “it” thing in weight loss. I don’t see it much for actually getting healthier. Briannah Jewel is another TH-camr who’s done videos on gut health and did a couple on the BB 4-week thing. Really interesting and science-backed.

It is right up there with the fact we are being pushed to fix our gut health. Yes, gut health is important, but they have now made everyone freaked out and obsessed with something that probably wasn't a problem in the first place.
Sidenote: I went over to a friends house awhile back and she has so many freaking supplements on her kitchen counter it was unbelievable. First, it would take me all day to take them all and secondly the money spent every month. I mean how bad could her gut health be to require that level of supplementation?
I always feel like any videos that promise a flat tummy or six pack abs are insensitive and also misleading to women who have had children. Some women may be able to achieve flat abs after pregnancy (and good for them!) but it isn't the norm. If women think their value or worth comes from their abs, then a lot of moms are going to feel bad about their bodies, instead of proud of what all their bodies can do!
