92...I was 30...but I have watched basketball since a kid...the old ABA Pacers...Bobby Knights IU legendary teams...you're right, they were glorious times! Nothing like today.
According to John Sally, Isaiah was denied being on the Dream Team by Magic Johnson, NOT Michael Jordan. Reason? Irvin and Isaiah were very good friends until Magic contracted the HIV virus. Isaiah questioned Magic to see if Magic was gay as the HIV had been attributed to the gay community at that time. Magic was very hurt by this and by the fact that Isaiah had been discussing this with other people as well. Larry Bird stuck by Magic and never questioned Irvins sexuality because, to Larry, it didn't matter! When you are a friend of Bird, you are a friend for life! That is one of the main reasons why Magic feels so strongly about Larry Bird. Magic was deeply hurt by Isaiahs betrayal and that is why he vetoed Isaiahs inclusion onto the Dream Team.
I will be watching for part 2. I really enjoy watching these guys play. When Bird was in that game at 33:49 you see him under the basket getting the missed shot. Something I would expect from him. And they finished 77 points ahead of the other team in that second scrimmage game. You're right about that guy on the pistons. Laimbeer wasn't only a nut case, but he was known for his dirty play and had no remorse if he injured someone. He also always played the victim. Bird and many others hated him.
Nah. It was Isiah Thomas leading the brutal piston game play. He was simply a dirty ( but good) player. Jordan didn't want America to be seen as dirty bball players
Notice how Isiah lowered his head like a coward dog as he walked passed Jordan? No eye contact and lowered head says a bunch about his character. That was after eliminating Jordan multiple times and he shook their hands each time. Sucker move, and always will be.
The Redeem Team was incredible. If the Dream Team didn't exist the Redeem Team would be discussed as the best team in team sports history. However, the Dream Team did exist and the argument isn't even close.
The other issue with Isiah Thomas was his directing a “freeze out” of a rookie Michael Jordan at his first All Star game, making sure nobody passed to him so he would not shine in the game. One thing about Jordan: he never, ever, forgot when someone slighted him. It didn’t matter if it was another player, a reporter, a coach or even a fan for an opposing team-he used those things to fuel his game. As far as the Dream Team, it was rumored that Michael and Scotty Pippen would not play if Isiah Thomas was on the team. It has since come out that they were not the only ones against Thomas being in the team, but they certainly were no fans of Isiah. One thing that has also been seldom mentioned: Isiah HATED that Jordan basically OWNS Chicago, which is Isiah’s hometown. He has always been jealous of Jordan for that reason, one of the roots of their conflict. The “Redeem Team” couldn’t carry the Dream Team’s jocks, let alone compete with them….
It truly was a Dream Team. For all the battles Jordan had with Larry Bird, he insisted that Larry be on the team. The only person who wanted Larry there more was Magic who convinced a reluctant Larry to play.
Fun fact: 25:20 Bobby Hurley only played two seasons in the league because he was in a terrible accident. It wasn't lack of talent. Bobby was a very skilled dribbler and facilitator... until that car crash :/
This is the only comment he has liked... Because all he cares about is likes ... And he begins the video saying stupid sh** such as he could have been on The Dream Team?! Are you kidding me!?
Christian Laettner was one of the best college basketball players but gets crapped on for his NBA career because it didn't live up to the highs and praise he was getting in college but he had a pretty good run through his first 8 years in the NBA. He averaged about 17-18pts and 8 rebounds during that time. Laettner and Dennis Rodman had some great battles. Check out a video called 'Dennis Rodman Bullying Christian Lattner Comp (1997)'. Video title is a bit misleading as Rodman doesn't really bully Laettner. Laettner does quite well against Rodman and then Rodman just starts fouling Laettner in frustration.
11 HALL OF FAME PLAYERS THE TWO BEST POINT GUARDS OF ALL TIME: EARVIN "MAGIC" JOHNSON AND JOHN STOCKTON THE BEST SHOOTING GUARD AND GREATEST PLAYER OF ALL TIME: MICHAEL "AIR" JORDAN THE BEST "SMALL" FORWARD IN HISTORY: LARRY "THE LEGEND" BIRD THE BEST POWER FORWARD IN HISTORY: KARL MALONE AND TWO OF THE 10 BEST CENTERS IN HISTORY: PATRICK EAWING AND DAVID ROBINSON NBA´S CHAMPIONSHIPS AND CHAMPIONS AND CHAMPIONSHIPS AND INDIVIDUAL MVP'S, ETC ETC ETC YEAH... Michael Jordan shook the Bad Boy Pistons hands every time they lost to them in the playoffs and he did that even though it seemed like they were trying to end his career
Christian Laettner was talked about in society during his college career because of his talent and back to back championships that is why they selected him as the one talented amature on the Dream Team. He went on to play pro ball in the NBA after having won gold in the Olympics. He was moved across differing teams though over his career, his pro career started with the Timberwolves.
As a Wolves fan: he did alright for us. Put up decent points. Not a superstar by any means and not a good defender, but a decent role player. I’d describe his NBA career as mild at best. But we upgraded from him to KG and never looked back.
You can't fully appreciate the magnitude of the team until you watch them all individually playing on their respective teams to see what made them great.
It just makes it more incredible that during this time, MJ and Scottie Pip won three straight Championships. The amount of ball they played, wow. And back in those days they didn't rest multiple games during the season to stay fresh for the playoffs. I was always taught that if you played more games you were better off physically and mentally to withstand the tougher competition in the later days of the season, the playoffs, etc... IMO, any team with those caliber of skill sets paired with MJ, would not lose in a million years, WOW!!! MJ made those respective stars into superstars... Prime example, MJ and the 84 olympic team destroyed the NBA elite 8-0, because of Michael Jeffrey Jordan, PERIOD!!! Watch the tapes... Those NBA superstars back then were in disbelief!!! He was not a nice human being, fake of all fakes...
You've never heard of Christian Laettner??? He played in the NBA from 1992 to 2012... he wasn't a superstar, but he was a very serviceable starter for more than half of his career.
1. Jordan had to go through the bad boy pistons of the late 1980's before wining his first title 2. In the famous 1988 ASG in Chicago (where his famoua jump man pose comes from) Issiah a Chicago native never passed to Jordan
Dude, Laettner was an amazing college player. Like maybe even top 20 all time. He turned out to be a semi-star in the NBA (known mainly for his play for Duke and the Dream Team 😁) He was picked for the Olympic team instead of Shaq because he led Duke to the NCAA championship that season. He was THE college player of the year, the ACC athlete of the year, Most outstanding final four player, etc. People who say Shaq should have been selected over him are projecting BACK onto summer of 92 how their NBA careers turned out. At that time, Laettner was the best player on the best NCAA team. Period. He deserved it. Also, I personally think AT THAT TIME Shaq would not have fit as well as Christian Laettner with the Olympic Team chemistry. Laettner was definitely the better passer, at least at that time.
Michael Jordan was incorrect in saying that a team with 11 HOF players could not happen again. It happened at the very next Olympics in 1996. The only player on that team to not make the HOF (so far} was Anfernee Hardaway.
Redeem teams starting 5 can go toe to toe with any starting 5, but the bench of the dream team is a literally 6 hall of famers and they have arguably a top 5 coach of all time.😂😂😂
I think Pippen was selected to the 1992 Olympics because of Jordan. MJ let it be known that he wanted Scottie. Plus PIp was a solid passer. And that's what the Dream Team was BUILT UPON. Full stop. People forget that: that 92 USA squad was ABOUT unselfish play. They averaged 120 ppg, yet rarely did any single player score more than 19 in a game. The team's leading scorers were Barkley and Jordan, at 18ppg & 15. Let that sink in. It was a share-the-wealth play style, something their top-to-bottom talent could pull off effortlessly. Beautiful beautiful basketball.
Mike had a genuine dislike for the Pistons, but Isaiah Thomas in particular... tried to snub him out of an All-Star MVP. It was from a couple of years prior to the creation of the Dream Team.
The video got one thing wrong. The 1992 Tournament of the Americas before the Olympics took place at the Memorial Coliseum, not the Rose Garden which opened 3 years later in 1995.
Regarding “Professional” athletes in the Olympics.. a number of countries national teams were full of professional players who had been playing in respective pro basketball leagues.. USA was getting beaten by these teams in international play.. finally they said, That’s enough! If you’re going to play your professional players, sim will we!
Redeem Team?? 😆 If so great, why did they need redemption?🤦♀🤦♂ Dream Team facts: The members of the Dream Team combined for 23 NBA championship rings! The Dream Team roster combined for 15 NBA MVP awards! When the NBA at 50 released its top 50 players of all time, a total of 10 members of the Dream Team made that list. The only players that were not on the top 50 were Chris Mullin and Christian Laettner. The 12 players on the Dream Team combined for 117 NBA All-Star Game appearances! Jordan and Malone led the way with 14 appearances each over their entire careers. Eight of the top 50 NBA scorers of all time played on the Dream Team. That list includes Karl Malone (36,928), Jordan (32,292), Patrick Ewing (24,815), Charles Barkley (23,757), Clyde Drexler (22,195), Larry Bird (21,791), David Robinson (20,790) and John Stockton (19,711).
Games were not even close. The U.S. demolished the other teams. Jordan, the man they wanted most, had a real beef with Isaiah. Isaiah also encouraged hurting opposing team players. Lambeer was the worst dirty player. In the beginning, individual players were ego driven and weren't playing as a team.
Very true no one wants to shake hands especially having won the year before, but MJ and the bulls always shakes there hands when they lost to the pistons. Always swallowed up the anger, hurt, etc…and were professionals! See the mind set?!!! Every player thought they were the greatest!! Not just say Lefony(Lebron) is the best and the rest of the players suck up to him and play soft against Lefony(Lebron) non of the dream team players played like that or acted like that!! Like how everyone does to Lefony
You might have missed it (coz you shzz'd over it), but the Dream Team won the "rematch" with the college kids with a 100 point difference. So they got their revenge over the thrown game.
Isaiah was a dirty caniphing player who disrespected the Bulls by walking out early and not shaking their hands! (Pistons, dirtiest team ever) lead by Isaiah.T.
Yes. It was especially poor sportsmanship when MJ was there after every Bulls series loss the three years before to congratulate him and the pistons. To hell with Isiah. His talent was worthy of being on that team but he was a snake and deserved to be off the team.
No matter had badly you don't want to shake your opponents hand after a loss you do it. Doesn't matter if it's eating you up inside, you take the L on the chin like a grown ass adult. That was horrible behavior and one of the main reasons the committee did not select Isiah. They couldn't have someone with that extent of poor sportsmanship representing the United States in the Olympics.
It was jordan who blocked isiah. Jordan told selectors he would not play with isiah. Isiah was actually better than John Stockton and should have been chosen. Isiah was the best point guard at the time.
Gotta due a little due diligence my man. Other countries were starting to send their PRO's to play in the olympics while the USA was sending the expected top college players. America got beat and the second time, enough was enough. Then America brought OUR BEST and it was lights out. Thomas is an A-hole. It goes back to the Jordan Rules , which were not about playing tough but THUG basketball. Jordan still after losing would shake their hands and then , once Jordan got it going and the team and they beat Detroit, Thomas and his team ran out of the Arena right past the bulls and didn't shake their hands. There was also a bunch of jealousy on Jordan when he came in and his first all star game and thomas was telling players not to feed jordan in the All Star game. SOO, it was multiple things why he didn't like Thomas. The organization putting together the team wanted jordan and jordan actually didn't want to play in the olympics but the rumor is ( and probably true) jordan wouldn't play if thomas was on the team ( and other players said same thing) the chemistry would be bad and of course you going to take jordan over thomas. That is the story. (2008 was overhype. Nothing was like the dream team)
Isaiah not on the team. He was a 2x champ and would have been on the team. After kicking the Bulls ass, literally and figuratively, 3 yrs in a row. He walked of the court early and didn't shake hands. Not to mention Magic, Larry, The Mailman, did want him on the team either.
You forgot to mention that those three years when the Championship Pistons squad (not just Isiah) beat MJ’s Bulls. MJ was a man and stood there after each of those three series losses to congratulate Isiah and the Pistons. Isiah got his ass swept and acted like a female dog not staying to congratulate MJ. That disrespect after years of MJ respecting the Pistons and wishing them well three years in a row. That right there was the final straw.
yurr what's good everybody this is part one of the documentary get this video to 50 likes if ud like for me to continue the series!

Man, I haven't seen dream team vids since i watched them back in the day, felt like a young guy again... Man i miss those days.
THE REDEEM TEAM IS NO COMPARISON TO THE ORIGINAL DREAM TEAM!
I absolutely LOVE Magic for jumping into this with both feet. He was the guy who pulled the team together.
Without Magic... no Jordan, no Bird.
You are so right and it is something we would expect from him. Love his personality.
Magic & Bird made the NBA what we know today. Had many other great players then.
I was rocking with Magic until he endorsed Hawk Tuah Harris. I stuck with through the AIDS but he lost me when he endorsed the party ran by the Devil.
@ someone's got dirt on Magic. The Dems did this with a lot of celebs. But either way, no excuses for endorsing the party of death.
You need Magic and Larry jerseys for that wall.

Because Isiah and the pistons fouled him every second. Dirty players
Christian Lightner didn’t deserve to be on his team should’ve been Shaquille
