See, it's funny because people go through the whole game and it all seems pretty childish sometimes, because it makes ridiculous jokes, and the enemies look so silly... then Wa-hey! BAM. Giygas shows up and scares everyone into wetting themselves, and it's funny as hell.
Y'know I've heard people say that it looks like a fetus and I could never see it, but I finally saw it just now. When the first wavey graphic comes, Giygas' "face" is inside the mind and body of the fetus(it's outlined in black). It's quite clever.

In its defense, Mother final bosses are not designed with a challenge in mind, but to wrap up the lore and play a critical role in driving the plot to its conclusion.
Giegue was just a baby of an alien race that had PSI powers. His race abducted George and Mary (Ninten's Grand parents) Mary took care of giegue and song the 8 melodies to him. George stole the secret of PSI, escapes and studies PSI. 80 years later a poltergiest happens. Giegue was brainwashed and sent by his masters to take back the power of PSI from Ninten (and anyone else with PSI). Ninten sings the eight melodies to him causing giegue to revert back to his memories of mary and so on.
Fun fact: when you see Giygas' "fetus form," flip it upside down and look closely. Fans of the original game, "Mother," will notice it bares a striking resemblance to Giygas' form from that game when he was just named Giyig.
Btw, at the start of the game, you could change Ness's name to all kinds of crap, which can lead to hilarious results if abused. E.G. NOMNOMNOMNOMNOM etc.

I don't know why everyone follows the fetus theory but it just can't be correct. Giygas is still very much alive here just in a different form. Here he is a swirling mass of 'evil' energy. And why do people think his lair looks like a uterus? It looks nothing like one. Looks more like a brain which would be appropriate considering he is in a mind form now.

once you get to the screen with all the Giygas faces, they clearly create outlines of a baby as seen through a sonogram. Really take a look. It's not accidental. The screaming red faces are just the shapes used to make the outline after the initial SCARY FACE WAVING AT YOU
