@@Noah73827I would rewatch the animated series, or even just look up clips of the cabbage merchant on TH-cam. He’s a fan favorite and arguably the most iconic side-character in the whole series.
I love that Zuko and Lu Ten actually seem to have a relationship in this show. I think it was a missed opportunity to heighten Zuko's grief, losing his cousin, grandfather and mother in the span of a week
They played it multiple times throughout the episode more than the actual animated one almost like they didn’t know how else to pull the emotional strings other than to milk Iroh’s sadness. Very emotionally manipulative of them
and they will probably do the book 3 version in the live action action as well, as Uncle Iroh will go ba sing se for the memorial service of his son, they will make us cry again and i cannot wait. omg
Going more in depth with previous avatars is another great aspect to the show so now you’re not entirely reliant on third-party media to get that information
I loved the show but my biggest gripe was what they did with Bumi’s Character. I understand what they were going for, it is understandable that someone who’s seen a century of war and suffering in would not have the same whimsical energy in REAL LIFE, and while they tried to keep some of his jovial spirit from the cartoon, the change in his character is very jarring, even if they did wrap it up somewhat wholesomely.
Totally agree! I was a bit taken aback by the fact they made him "bitter", blaming Aang and all. I really liked the fact that in the original cartoon, those trials were to know if Aang mastered the other elements. But here, it's like he's mad at Aang (which could be understandable) and it just sounded strange. But hey, like you say, they wrap up this arc nicely!
Then again, it's not like the Avatar franchise hasn't been in dumb shit before as we all still remember that 6 earthbenders lifting up a tiny ass boulder adaptation, but at least that movie is like other adaptations like Dragonball Evolution, Death Note 2017, The Wicker Man and Psycho Remake where it's entertainingly bad enough to the point where you can watch them with a group of friends at a bad movie night and have fun watching it, which is the polar opposite of what this show accomplishes.
so glad to hear you liked the adaptation! with the amount of people who went into the show ready to hate it or didn’t even give the show a chance and just hated on it on the internet, seeing someone with a platform who actually kept an open mind while watching it is really refreshing :) i’m looking forward to your review of the last four episodes!
People like to hate. I loooove how they are combining characters and scenes, it's an adaptation, it had to happen, the original show was rushed sometimes.
Morgan, I've been watching your vids for years and I just gotta say, thank you. Thank-you so much for your reviews that are always so respectful whether or not you agree with something or not. It's hard to see that on TH-cam these days.
I know, but then it just got kind of annoying because I tried to hum along to the melody but then they just started like changing it and twisting it making it all weird
Overall, pretty good. - Actors looked and acted like the characters they portrayed - Dialogue was decent - Writing needed improving - Koh, Jet, and Zhao were fun to watch - Finally, the Mechanist actually has a name - 2, 4, 6, and 8 were really good imo - Sokka's "Go kick his ass" was so funny but so weird at the same time - Zuko wasn't a heartless monster, which was cool - Katara and Aang needed more emotion overall - I get it's not a cartoon, but Aang should've been more comedic - favorite changes were aang burying gyatso (who is... eugh but also took down some fire soldiers) and zuko having the 41st division he saved from a diversion - wish sozin's comet was brought up more, but I guess that'll drive aang to learn the other elements quicker in s2 - hopefully jeong jeong and haru are in 2
Considering Book 2 is centered on Earth Kingdom, I wonder if thats what they will focus more on it, episodes from book 1 that were within the Earth Kingdom like Jeong Jeong and the Fortune Teller... Actualy Aunt Wu could be a perfect way to foretell and foreshadow events like finding Toph and Aang's "death".
Everything with Bumi was something i didnt like, because it just felt out of character with Bumi. I knew I should have said, I've been an avatar fan since last year and I've only seen Bumi's intro episode once and from what I remember Bumi wasn't that harsh to Aang, correct me if I'm wrong.
They seriously butchered him in this show, I feel like the live action writers did not understand the character of Bumi. I also feel like they messed up Roku as well, they made him more comedic which is something that I didn’t like
I actually loved and welcomed the change. It didn't feel "out" of character but more in line with a slightly different version of the character. He was hardened from the war and it's basically driven him mad. He also was angry because Aang basically abandoned him. These are all things that Bumi could have done in the original show, but didn't because he was taken in a different, though equally valid, direction.
Eh, i disagree. I think this adpatation is okay and definitely better than the movie, but it for sure had a lot of flaws. The placement of certain characters (like wan shi tong) were out of place, the changing of bumis personality, that katara had no training literally at all, and the fact that they explained way more than they showed us. I did however love that they made zukos crew the people he saved. That was the only real moment i was really happy with the show.
The "new" names like Wolf Cove or Agna Qel'a aren't really new. They come from the Avatar legends tabletop RPG that came out 2022. The only truely new name is the name of the mechanist.
I completely lost it when I heared "Leaves from the vine" as background music during Lu Ten's funeral... then Iroh cried as well. I WILL NEVER NOT CRY DURING "LEAVES FROM THE VINE" -- it will always get me.
The scene with suki watching sokka was there to show just how little she knew about interacting with men as the majority of the island is female. The cultural diversity was the best part. So many different people
I thought Netflix really did do a good job with it, the actors embodied their characters and gave it the respect it needed. There will always be people who will nitpick every little change but overall I did love it and I do hope that we can get a season 2 and 3.💙💚❤️
I am so glad that you didn’t shoot this down. I was worried that TH-camrs were going to hate on this because it doesn’t recreate the animated show shot for shot. I personally love this version of the last airbender. It is different but I don’t mind that at all. It was more mature which fits with the fact that the fans are grown up by now. Can’t wait for season 2. Just hope that season 1 is successful enough for netflix to go for a slightly longer season so the story gets a bit more space to breath. Especially with Toph being introduced.
I actually binged the whole season when it came onto Netflix and I honestly enjoyed it. Thinking back, the fact that this was serious with good doses of humour was the right move, which helped make it different enough from the original show. And I really appreciated the changes and additions made to make this work as an eight episode show. One of my favourite changes had to be the waterbending scroll. The fact that it was something that was from the Southern Water Tribe and Gran Gran gave it to Katara as she left to save Aang is nice, since it adds a certain dimension and emotion for Katara and her drive to be a great waterbender.
Thank you for doing a review I absolutely adore ATLA and i was super nervous when Netflix came out with this, since a lot of us grew up with this series. That being said, i am disappointed on a lot of harsh critics about the adaptation, because i feel like they are not giving it an honest chance, we all loved this the original but I am enjoying a new perspective on this beloved story. Keeping the spirit of the original but adding something new to it. Hopefully people who are being harsh will have an open mind and give it a real try to see this live action in a new light.
That’s how I feel. Look yes, I was hella nervous about it but I actually enjoy it more and more. It’s a different take. People look for more the negative than looking at what this live action brings
Exactly. Hopefully more people will see it as an adaptation and not a like-for-like remake. They added so much depth and gave a different perspective to different scenes. And all the negative critics choose to ignore this part and only focus on the show's flaws and shortcomings alone. Hopefully more people will watch this with an open mind and judge the show on it's merits and flaws, instead of comparing it constantly to the Animation series. Hopefully the hate doesn't stop open-minded fans from liking this. Cause I really loved this show. And it is not as bad an adaptation as the negativity has made it out to be. Anyone interested in the show, please watch it with an open mind, and judge this show based on its merits and flaws. It's a really good adaptation. And a really good show.
One thing I think is very interesting in the funeral scene: Only Ozai and Zuko are present, but Azula is not, which is quite fitting. Also Azulon died before Iroh returned so it's obvious why he's not there, as he loved Iroh more than Ozai and would be sad for his loss. In addition to that, both Ozai and Zuko say the "Be proud, your son was a hero and died for the glory of the Fire Nation" crap, but only Zuko really speaks what he thinks afterwards. Another nice detail is Lu Ten's painting in the background. It looks quite close to the drawing from the OG show, making it another tribute to Mako.
@@apomalachel8787yeah, his acting was a bit bad(especially the emotional scenes). But i felt that in the last 2 episodes, he had got really good. So hopefully, the more he works with the acting coaches, the more better he can become. Hopefully🤞
I just finished the entired of Avatar Live action, and unfortunately. I will say I did enjoy the first episode. But it goes downhill after the first episode. I did not enjoy this adaptation. This felt WAY too rushed. They took story lines and elements from the future of the episodes, changing the dynamics of characters and removing important story lines that play a huge part in the future. Also, I did not like the disrespect they did to the past Male Avatars(Roku and Kuruk). They gave the spotlight to Avatar Kyoshi. I dont hate they gave more to Kyoshi, I just dont like there is 0 mention of the most recent Avatar before Aang (Roku) until very late in the show and Roku feels like a completly different character. He is the avatar who is supposed to be Aangs main go-to for the show but they made him into a joke charater. Azula was also big problem for me. She was introduced soo early and she did NOT insinuate the battle of the Nothern Water Tribe. She also is supposed to have Blue fire when we first meet her but she has Red??!? Why does she have red then it slowly turns Blue in a singular scene? Another thing that bugs me was Bumi. Aang finds out that the King of Omashu is Bumi way too early. Not to mention Bumi doesn't feel like Bumi. He blames Aang too much for what happens and his reasoning to giving Aang the trials are different. In this it feels like Bumi wanted to torment Aang not help him by thinking outside the box when it comes to fighting the firelord and stopping the fire nation from destroying the world, which is also not brought up at ALL. The entire reason Team Avatar is on this journey is because Roku(who was disrespected) told Aang about Sozens Comet and he has to master the 4 elements by the end of summer. Which is also the whole reason why the go to the Northern Water Tribe. Aang needs to find a Water Bending Master so he can stop the Firelord. After watching this I can see why the creators of Avatar left
I’ve only watched episodes 1-4 so idk how the rest of the season will play out but I *REALLY* hated that they took away Roku’s scene and just gave it to Kyoshi for some dumb reason. Roku being the first Avatar that Aang connects with adds more significance to the story in general: the war, the comet, Zuko…. and they completely ruined that
Favorite parts: 1) cabbage merchant, especially with the build up to his first full release, 2) leaves from the vine at the funeral Least favorite: the secret tunnels and Bumi. I thought both missed the mark, and i would have preferred of they scrapped the secret tunnels part and made the Bumi part more faithful to the original, especially the reveal that it was in fact Bumi. They definitely could've changed him some, but I thought both parts of that episode went poorly.
Agree! ❤ seems someone missed the romantic comedy here. I actually really liked how they flipped the script and made suki the pursuer and Sokka unsure, mildly uncomfortable, but also very interested. Still tension but no misogyny!
* The combat choreography is great. good focus on Aang more flows defensive style as he is not an aggressive fighter and person as the monks and Airbenders lead a more serene lifestyle. Not to mention Aang’s fear of hurting someone as he has mentioned before in episode 2 with Kyoshi. Contrary to Zuko’s sharp, aggressive, and fast movement, using more of his arms and legs for attack. He has more drive and stamina and aggression as that is how the Fire Nation trains him. To be a warrior or a soldier even, not to mention Zuko’s drive to capture again fueling him in battle. Not sure if this was intentional but it’s still pretty awesome. 🍃🔥💨💦🪨
I wasn't expecting Omashu to have an indian aesthetic and I didn't know how much I would love it. Also on episode 3 when Sokka is looking at Sai's desk, there's a jar labbeled with the Flamel Cross from Fullmetal Alchemist for some reason xD
I haven’t cried in a show/movie since 2018 the burden of growing up But when leaves from the vine played at full force a single tear went out it’s truly beautiful and since i’ve watched plenty of musical analysis of the series it was way more impactful than any other scene just because of the soundtrack
THANK YOU for telling me I am not insane when I love this adaptation for what it is. The amount of easter eggs and clever writing convinces me the writers/people behind this loved and respected the original. I am hating the trend of people hating this not being a one to one adaptation, when it truly blended a lot of elements that could just be hanging and erased into meaningful tidbits in the show. Katara's scroll being given by grangran was a better and more personable way of getting it. Omashu being the setting for 4 stories or more was so creative and my favorite change. Iroh and Zuko's portrayal making me love the characters MORE after 10 years. This show was made with love and yet people say it is a shit show and disrespects the original but it is their own biased takes because of nostalgia (in a negative way) This adaptation was a love letter and a great watch. Im not sure how a new viewer would watch this bec ive watched ATLA countless of times through the years but people telling me "you dont understand my anger since I have been a fan for a decade" - it's crazy to assume the people who loved it were not longtime fans as well 😂 I just hope they finish the story until Book 3. They set up a lot of stuff. Tho Aang never learned waterbending this season which was kinda hmmm but with the way how this is written I guess I can give it a pass. Overall I really loved this adaptation. Iroh and Zuko scenes made me tear up so much😢
I dislike the casting of Azula and friends. Azula is insecure and jealous of zuko and not confident unlike the animated show. All of them look so young ang cute. I don't see them as evil and badass
Ty Lee is fine, azula could lose some weight but with better writing could deliver, but the fact that they saw Mai’s actress and were like ‘that!s her’ just baffles me
I gotta admit, the way this show being run is different and unexpected, but I am loving it. I especially love the way Sokka and Suki interacted, it was so well done and I can relate to the whole thing. I could just tell right away that they are into each other, Sokka was just a little twitterpated, and Suki is just speaking without words that the same thing is going on with her. I don't know about you guys but I can tell that this show is gonna be great. I hope you guys enjoy this as well. 👍🍀
This show is actually amazing. Sure, sure it's not a perfect adaptation but that's to be expected cause you can't fit 20 episodes of lore into 8. I also like how they kept some humor and added much more depth to the story and characters. Giving the Earth Kingdom soldier a personal reason for being so harsh on Iroh rather than just cause its a fire nation general was a good example of that. I also loved how they made it so that the platoon of fire nation soldiers Zuko saved by speaking out in a meeting, were the ones who ended up serving him. I can't say if this is better than the original book 1 animation because I'm biased towards the original, but this show is definitely a good 9/10
I am glad people liked it bit for me personally, I found middling. In my opinion it is a solid 6 out of 10. I don't think it was bad, but they lost points for pacing, character directions that were a break from character, for what they cut out of their version, and for a instance of hypocracy that they display for certain portrayals that I will not spoil. Each of those instances were a -1 which is how I got to 6 out of 10.
You are one of the first YoutTubers I have seen with a positive scoop on the show so far, thank you for not dwelling on only the negative aspects of the show.
I have to agree in regards to their clever use of story telling. I was honestly impressed by how much information the writers stuffed into the live action. Though, I feel like they sacrificed a lot of emotional scenes or smaller character-building moments to add to the story/world, I just hope that information serves them well in the second season.
I loved that you could hear the instrumental of Leaves From the Vine in Lu Ten's funeral. That honestly made me tear up and I honestly am both dreading and looking forward to how Netflix handles it. I do love the series it does have it's flaws BUT the flaws do not over ride at how good it is. It actively respects and does something new with the source material. I watched the cartoon when it first came out. Honestly I do really love what Netflix did.
I don't have an issue with aang not wanting a master when he goes to the north, just that he didn't want to learn waterbending at all. I also wish they hadn't changed the bending to focus so heavily on hand and arm shapes/motions, It feels slow and awkward.
i think the hand & arm shapes/motions stuff is an attribute to the martial arts styles that the original bending was inspired from- especially since several members of the cast are trained martial artists. whats slow and awkward is the wirework though ://
Thank u for not totally shitting on the new adaptation. This series it’s own being that still pays homage to its predecessor and I believe if people are willing to watch it objectively they will find it enjoyable
I went into it with an open mind But its strong flaws is u dont really Connect with the characters. They feel almost robotic with their scripts and lack all of the characther depth that the animated had. + the woke kata bs just had me Rolling my eyes
@@TroyzBleedlesI'm on on episode 5 but so far I've liked it but I agree. Aang especially comes off very wooden. Bumi was one of my favorite characters and I didn't like that particular change.
@@coreytrybus7050 yeah i was very annoyed in the way they changed bumi too. i dont mind if they make changes to it but if u are going to make a change u should add on to it and make it better. if the change u make is simply worse why even make the change. ive had that thought about a lot of things. they do have a few good add ons like the 41st company, which i really liked the idea of zuko saving em.
About to start episode seven. So far, I'm extremely pleased with the creative decisions they've made; with remaining loyal to the foundations we all fell in love with YEARS ago, along with their own additions and subtractions. 🙌🏽 Zuko is one of my all times favorite fictional characters and Dallas James Liu is portraying the complexities of Zuko so beautifully. I'm honestly so excited to finish this season, and I hope we get to see the rest of this series in the future. And, who knows; we may get to witness Korra along with other prequels and sequels within this incredible universe. 🙏🏽
I respectfully disagree 😔 while way better than the movie the show was a disappointment, I found the direction and the performances childish, and overall the show was more childish than the animated series.
The way the show adapted the lore that was already established from the later seasons of the OG show in to season 1, is really similar to how the disney+ percy jackson adapted information from the later books into it's first season
I like that how they made the series so intelligently. They mixed other episodes but without making it awkward. I am glad you did the breakdown on this as I was quite upset when you did not do the trailer breakdown! Loved your viewpoints and thank God you were not influenced by haters who keep hating on the show due to small silly details
When they got to the flash back with iroh and the first two notes Leaves from the vine play, i started to cry myself. The scene would have been so incomplete without the song, but they nailed it, along with showing how war broke iroh. That one scene is probably one of the most powerful in this season.
Episode 4 when i noticed the music in the background started crying while saying those lyrics : "Happy birthday my son. If only I could have helped you. Leaves from the vine Falling so slow Like fragile tiny shells Drifting in the foam Little soldier boy Come marching home Brave soldier boy Comes marching home" Rest in peace Mako
Loved so many of their changes. One not mentioned in the video was Oma and Shu, it was subtle so I didn’t even catch it at first, they were star crossed sapphic lovers 🫶🏾
24:58 Not only the actors made phenomenal jobs here, the soundtrack was actually an orchestrated version of Leaves from the Vine, which also played at the end when Iroh said he would join Zuko on his journey. This was such an amazing way to play homage to the original series.
It’s refreshing to hear your appreciation and optimism for the show, I just hear so many people trying to tear it apart. I understand people being upset if it’s not how they imagined or hoped it would be, but I really liked most of the creative changes they made and love how the cast seems to be having fun making it, actually seeming to appreciate the source material
@@KaypainBeats yes, I forgot that as well! just wanna make sure Mike and Brian get their credit. I wish we could’ve seen a whole entire live-action series of what they were interested in.
OK but people arent talking about the firebenders being able to burn someone from the inside out. It was like they were causing a spontaneous combustion. I LOVED that addition. It reminded me a lot of Legend of Korra when Zaheer bended the air out of the Earth Queens lungs and using it to suffocate her. Those are both things that makes sense that they can do but no one thought to ask the question if they could do it until it happened because it is terrifying!
Completely amazing balance between fan service, additional story/character development, great fighting (mostly), and stunning visuals. Nothing can compare with the original show. But this version was an absolute blast to watch.
I think overall they did a good job. Like movieflame said, the costumes ,the casting, locations are all very good. The only big thing that the show did that i dont like is the pacing. I wish they gave it more time to breath and have goofy moments. The changes that they made are logical but sometimes just too much at the same time wich leads to some things not paying of as much as in the animated series. Hopefully season 2 fixes that
Agreed! People that are thrashing the show has no reason for it. The Netflix adaptation is pretty good, pretty faithful and kept the main plot points in very short space to show it. I'm eager to watch a second season focused on Aang mastering the elements and, especially, Toph! I WANNA SEE TOPH!
@@Fhrek42 It's really just the day and age we live in, no matter what happens, new media will always get hate. Many people like the show, others are already hating on it
I watched the animated show in 2020 or 2021 and I love the show. I watched the live-action adaptation of the show last weekend and it is AWESOME! I loved how it stays true to the animated show and how they brought new things to the show that we've haven't seen in the animated show. The cast is absolutely stunning and spot on and when there's a moment I remember from Book 1 of the animated show and seeing that in live-action, I remember and say the memorable lines of some of the characters. Everything else about the live-action adaptation is fantastic.
I was waiting for your episodes 5-8 video, so this is a spoiler warning for people I love how Katara implements an earthbending technique into her waterbending, going in sync with what is originally done in the 2nd season by uncle Iroh when he explains to Zuko how everyone should learn from the other elements. Zuko succeeds in doing this in the Anime, but Katara manages to do so in live action. I didn't like Katara's bland personality live-action, but love her innovation and smarts, genuinely feeling like it's a family trait.
yeah I really liked it, like how they showed suki and sokkas relationship as well! I watched it in 4 chunks, ep 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6 etc. felt it was the designed way to watch the show!
I know that I’m 3 months late but this is definitely my favourite show. I never watched the cartoons but regardless, everything here’s just perfect! Also, fun fact - I’m genuinely only like a month and 8 days older than the girl who does Katara. I have ID to prove it
I avoided this show AND Fate the Winx Saga which if you ask me is the worst live action remake of a cartoon, not The Last Airbender. Movie-wise, I'd say Mulan 2020 is just as bad as The Last Airbender. I've only seen reactions to all of these live action remakes and I think that's all the exposure I need. Anyway, the original series had 20something episodes each season which was perfect! They don't fit Netflix's limit of just 8 or 10 episodes.
That is probably the only good thing to come out of the show is that people are actually dying on screen rather than just left up to audience interpretation.
I’m glad that the firebenders can create fire in the Netflix series just like the original animated series! I’m glad they don’t need sources of fire already present!
Gyasto died more like a weak old man in the new show whereas in the animation, it’s implied that he went out like a bad ass and killed all those fire benders using some kind of suicidal air bending technique, mostly likely from Yangchen since she developed an ability to disable a fire benders and combustion bender by creating an airless void
How was he a coward when he laid down his life to protect the children. Granted he isn’t portrayed as strong here and the fight could’ve been a bit longer to show his capabilities, but still he was definitely not a coward.
I'm sorry but his death went over your head and you completely missed the marked. How can you call him weak when Sozin himself admits Gyatso would have gotten the best of him if it wasn't for the power of the comet
The entire Air bender genocide was way lower scale. The fire benders didn't even look all that enhanced by Sozins comet at all, no visual indication that the firebending was more deadlier with the comet compared to without it.
Bumi is worthless in this adaptation and it's infuriating. He's Aang's old friend and his lesson in the cartoon is for Aang to think outside the box because crazy obstacles are going to be thrown his way. It's a justified lesson because Aang wasn't acting this way before and it comes back in the final fight with Ozai. In this version, Aang is focused on being responsible now that he's returned and feeling ashamed, so his old friend helps him by laying it on thick and throwing obstacles his way so Aang stops playing games and learns how to make hard choices on his own. This lesson doesn't come across as justified because Aang was never playing games with Bumi when they reunited. Maybe if the rest of the series is greenlit we'll see this "lesson" return, but I doubt they'll allude to it.
I love that the Cabbage merchant is the same actor who voiced him in the animated series. He really loves his cabbages!
HE IS?? I THOUGHT HE WAS JUST REALLY REALLY GOOD OMG
The voice actor was the Capp age man in the live action series I didn’t know that interesting
My CABBAGESSSS!!!!!
@@Noah73827I would rewatch the animated series, or even just look up clips of the cabbage merchant on TH-cam. He’s a fan favorite and arguably the most iconic side-character in the whole series.

I love that Zuko and Lu Ten actually seem to have a relationship in this show. I think it was a missed opportunity to heighten Zuko's grief, losing his cousin, grandfather and mother in the span of a week
the fact that they play a version of leaves of the vine in the background with the funeral scene, i cried they nailed it
They played it multiple times throughout the episode more than the actual animated one almost like they didn’t know how else to pull the emotional strings other than to milk Iroh’s sadness. Very emotionally manipulative of them
and they will probably do the book 3 version in the live action action as well, as Uncle Iroh will go ba sing se for the memorial service of his son, they will make us cry again and i cannot wait. omg
i was fighting the tears
Yeah, that was definitely one of my favorite scenes. It was so well shot and well acted
Great 💯 great 💯 job 👍
Definitely he seemed way to bitter and the contrast between the happy crazy bumi was too much

People like to hate. I loooove how they are combining characters and scenes, it's an adaptation, it had to happen, the original show was rushed sometimes.
It never came😂😂😂
I don't understand why so much people were hating when personally I thought it was amazing.
Aang was not goofy enough and kept saying the same dialogue every episode?!, Katara wasn’t fierce enough, Sokka was perfect, Zuko was perfect
Yeah I really don't like katara actress her acting is really bad no emotion
Sokka was defiently not perfect, what on earth are you smoking?
Sokka’s actor is good but the direction for his character is ass. He occasionally has a “funny” line but he’s WAY too serious all the time.
Sokka was perfect?? Yet they took away his biggest character development
@@DatBoiChris420yeah I hated that too but overall the actor was a perfect fit for sokka imo

Fun fact during the scene of Lu ten's funeral the instrumental version of leaves from the vine plays and it made it all the more sader😭😭😭
I cried during that scene. Especially once Leaves from the Vine started playing.
@@sdogreads4444 i cried at zukos crew being the 41st what a great decision
@@ourwrld6822same
Excuse me how dare you attack me with this information. Now I need to go watch it again and cry harder than I did the first time 😭😭😭
I know, but then it just got kind of annoying because I tried to hum along to the melody but then they just started like changing it and twisting it making it all weird
Overall, pretty good.
- Actors looked and acted like the characters they portrayed
- Dialogue was decent
- Writing needed improving
- Koh, Jet, and Zhao were fun to watch
- Finally, the Mechanist actually has a name
- 2, 4, 6, and 8 were really good imo
- Sokka's "Go kick his ass" was so funny but so weird at the same time
- Zuko wasn't a heartless monster, which was cool
- Katara and Aang needed more emotion overall
- I get it's not a cartoon, but Aang should've been more comedic
- favorite changes were aang burying gyatso (who is... eugh but also took down some fire soldiers) and zuko having the 41st division he saved from a diversion
- wish sozin's comet was brought up more, but I guess that'll drive aang to learn the other elements quicker in s2
- hopefully jeong jeong and haru are in 2
Dialogue was horrible
Considering Book 2 is centered on Earth Kingdom, I wonder if thats what they will focus more on it, episodes from book 1 that were within the Earth Kingdom like Jeong Jeong and the Fortune Teller... Actualy Aunt Wu could be a perfect way to foretell and foreshadow events like finding Toph and Aang's "death".
No the actors did not really look like the show in my opinion like Katara barely said a word and Soka was not funny or Sassy a lot anymore
I also feel like they messed up Roku as well, they made him more comedic which is something that I didn’t like
Agreed!
Yea I agree
I actually loved and welcomed the change. It didn't feel "out" of character but more in line with a slightly different version of the character. He was hardened from the war and it's basically driven him mad. He also was angry because Aang basically abandoned him. These are all things that Bumi could have done in the original show, but didn't because he was taken in a different, though equally valid, direction.
@@momomomocensoredbyyoutube9085 exactly that's what I mean
Eh, i disagree. I think this adpatation is okay and definitely better than the movie, but it for sure had a lot of flaws. The placement of certain characters (like wan shi tong) were out of place, the changing of bumis personality, that katara had no training literally at all, and the fact that they explained way more than they showed us. I did however love that they made zukos crew the people he saved. That was the only real moment i was really happy with the show.
Then again, it's not like the Avatar franchise hasn't been in dumb shit before as we all still remember that 6 earthbenders lifting up a tiny ass boulder adaptation, but at least that movie is like other adaptations like Dragonball Evolution, Death Note 2017, The Wicker Man and Psycho Remake where it's entertainingly bad enough to the point where you can watch them with a group of friends at a bad movie night and have fun watching it, which is the polar opposite of what this show accomplishes.
the orchestral version of leaves on the vine in the background of the flashback scenes in ep 4 was such a nice touch
Finally ! The video analysis I was expecting so much ! Thanks in advance.
The scene with suki watching sokka was there to show just how little she knew about interacting with men as the majority of the island is female. The cultural diversity was the best part. So many different people
Except thats not true there were men on the island
What? The Kyoshi warriors are all female, not the entire island. You can see multiple men and boys in several scenes. How would that even work? XD
Yeah you obviously forgot about foaming mouth guy
How does misinformation get so many like 😔
Thank you!!!! Like, I hate how ppl are just accepting all these changes that make no sense! @Wizheadpluto

I literally can’t wait for live action toph! and wan shi tong!
Didnt they already waste wan shi tong@@juliajohnson4080
I actually binged the whole season when it came onto Netflix and I honestly enjoyed it.
Thinking back, the fact that this was serious with good doses of humour was the right move, which helped make it different enough from the original show.
And I really appreciated the changes and additions made to make this work as an eight episode show. One of my favourite changes had to be the waterbending scroll. The fact that it was something that was from the Southern Water Tribe and Gran Gran gave it to Katara as she left to save Aang is nice, since it adds a certain dimension and emotion for Katara and her drive to be a great waterbender.
Me too, binged it the first day. Absolutely loved it.
Thank you for doing a review
I absolutely adore ATLA and i was super nervous when Netflix came out with this, since a lot of us grew up with this series.
Yea it feels like all of them only noticed the negatives but completely ignored the great parts.
The orchestral version of Leaves From the Vine was beautiful.
I’m on episode 5 and I’m not disappointed at all yet
I was definitely awaiting your review
Is the series as good as the original series
No
Is it miles above the movie
Yes
Did he just say Mai was perfectly cast 😅😅😅 Biggest lie I’ve heard this month
Dude it’s been almost 3 months and I have been waiting patiently for the last episodes for you to break down I’m starting to lose hope
I love the actors of this series. Gordon and Dallas really outshines everyone.
Agree, their dynamic was great
Dallas is such a perfect casting for Zuko. Him and Iroh’s chemistry is great so far and they are going to go much deeper in future seasons too.
Gordon lags behind in acting. It must be admitted. Quite often I had the impression that he was just reading the script.
Gordon was horrific. He can't act to save his life
@@apomalachel8787yeah, his acting was a bit bad(especially the emotional scenes). But i felt that in the last 2 episodes, he had got really good.
So hopefully, the more he works with the acting coaches, the more better he can become. Hopefully🤞
7:29 Well... Wolf Cove was the name of the Southern Water Tribe capital in TLoK...
Paragraphs people... not reading all of that
@@KaypainBeats Not surprised that low attention span people can't read.
I’ve only watched episodes 1-4 so idk how the rest of the season will play out but I *REALLY* hated that they took away Roku’s scene and just gave it to Kyoshi for some dumb reason. Roku being the first Avatar that Aang connects with adds more significance to the story in general: the war, the comet, Zuko…. and they completely ruined that
Favorite parts: 1) cabbage merchant, especially with the build up to his first full release, 2) leaves from the vine at the funeral
Least favorite: the secret tunnels and Bumi. I thought both missed the mark, and i would have preferred of they scrapped the secret tunnels part and made the Bumi part more faithful to the original, especially the reveal that it was in fact Bumi. They definitely could've changed him some, but I thought both parts of that episode went poorly.
That scene with Suki and topless Sokka was so funny
Agree! ❤ seems someone missed the romantic comedy here. I actually really liked how they flipped the script and made suki the pursuer and Sokka unsure, mildly uncomfortable, but also very interested. Still tension but no misogyny!
I wish suki was the topless one

I haven’t cried in a show/movie since 2018 the burden of growing up
But when leaves from the vine played at full force a single tear went out it’s truly beautiful and since i’ve watched plenty of musical analysis of the series it was way more impactful than any other scene just because of the soundtrack
WHERE IS PART TWO!?!
This show was made with love and yet people say it is a shit show and disrespects the original but it is their own biased takes because of nostalgia (in a negative way)
This adaptation was a love letter and a great watch. Im not sure how a new viewer would watch this bec ive watched ATLA countless of times through the years but people telling me "you dont understand my anger since I have been a fan for a decade" - it's crazy to assume the people who loved it were not longtime fans as well 😂
I just hope they finish the story until Book 3.
I cried too, man. I have such a strong connection to the original series. ❤️
Iroh might be my favorite character in all of fiction.
I just finished it yesterday and I absolutely LOVED it!! it was definitely worth the years of wait.
Like I was in big aww the whole time
This show is actually amazing. I can't say if this is better than the original book 1 animation because I'm biased towards the original, but this show is definitely a good 9/10
Exactly
I am glad people liked it bit for me personally, I found middling. In my opinion it is a solid 6 out of 10. I don't think it was bad, but they lost points for pacing, character directions that were a break from character, for what they cut out of their version, and for a instance of hypocracy that they display for certain portrayals that I will not spoil. Each of those instances were a -1 which is how I got to 6 out of 10.
Where is the episode 5-8 video? I’ve been looking and looking everyday! You need to post that ASAP!
The waterbending is to be learnt during the time gap between seasons 1 and 2, that way it makes sense that he stayed there awhile
Finally someone in TH-cam breakdown it and actually loved it
Thank u for not totally shitting on the new adaptation. This series it’s own being that still pays homage to its predecessor and I believe if people are willing to watch it objectively they will find it enjoyable
It probably is, but some people don't want to watch the same thing with minor changes
I went into it with an open mind But its strong flaws is u dont really Connect with the characters. They feel almost robotic with their scripts and lack all of the characther depth that the animated had. + the woke kata bs just had me Rolling my eyes

When they got to the flash back with iroh and the first two notes Leaves from the vine play, i started to cry myself. The scene would have been so incomplete without the song, but they nailed it, along with showing how war broke iroh. That one scene is probably one of the most powerful in this season.
Episode 4 when i noticed the music in the background started crying while saying those lyrics :
"Happy birthday my son. If only I could have helped you.

Omg thank you for having a positive review and overall outlook on the show
OK but people arent talking about the firebenders being able to burn someone from the inside out.

I love how Katara implements an earthbending technique into her waterbending, going in sync with what is originally done in the 2nd season by uncle Iroh when he explains to Zuko how everyone should learn from the other elements.
Zuko succeeds in doing this in the Anime, but Katara manages to do so in live action.
I didn't like Katara's bland personality live-action, but love her innovation and smarts, genuinely feeling like it's a family trait.
Are you going to be doing the last 4 episodes?

If it is good and brings in more fans, wonderful!
I never needed to see this story translated into a live action medium.

Uhm… Azula and her friends were «perfectly cast»???
They’ve destroyed Sokka’s development and character arc and replaced it with garbage
I totally agree, I feel that the show really butchered his character. I also feel like the show really messed up Bumi’s character as well.
true
How so?

Bumi got turned into a weirdo but Roku got turned into Bumi. Although there was some good stuff too, that's what killed me
This was not a faithful adaptation. Sorry. Y’all are lying to yourselves.
That is probably the only good thing to come out of the show is that people are actually dying on screen rather than just left up to audience interpretation.
Did you notice that the background music in Lu Ten’s funeral is an instrumental version of “Leaves from the Vine”?
When is part 2 coming?
@@DeeDeeDeeeee I kind of expected him to do a little bit more than just an air shield
@@madambutterfly1997 yeah I agree, but it didn’t make him look weak or like a coward. He’s an old man who still held them off until Sozin came in.
