    I've always wanted a comic dedicated to Iroh and Ozai's childhood and seeing how these two brothers could grown into such opposite beings.

      Wasn't Iroh very similar to Ozai? I thought that they were very similar until Iroh's son died and he became a better person through grief.

      @@onebigfox8310 you're correct tho. Once he got on the throne he wouldn't be as ruthless as Sozin, Azulon, and Ozai tho he would of continued the War believing it was the right thing and would of crushed the other nations if they didn't comply. He was good guy at home tho a was good at doing bad things for the war until he lost Lu-Ten.

      i'd imagine they were similar to azulo and zuko; azulo was always cold hearted while zuko was warmer and empathetic. zuko was hardened by his traumatic experiences and exile. had zuko not been exiled i'd imagined that, like iroh, he'd do his duty to support the fire nation too but be more personable like iroh. i just feel the writers made a lot of parallels with the relationships between characters

    The only person in the entire fire nation that was able to shake Ozai to his very core, was his own wife, even after so many years of separation. It says a whole lot about Ursa than it does about Ozai.

It must have stung even more so. For her to finally break free and see him for what he truly is, and unleash it and fully confront him. Just as zuko did. Yet zukos confrontation was like a baby conpared to this. Ozai probably never felt that powerless in his life. He was the one broken. Ursa broke him
      His narcissim persisted even after complete humliation and defeat, even after losing his bending, losing his freedom... still he believed his own grandeur. That he can still control everything. Ultimately, I think Aang made the right choice in not killing Ozai. Not because of mercy, though. Because in the end, Ozai died a pathetic, broken prisoner left to rot in a cell, with everyone who had ever feared or followed him feeling nothing but contempt for him. Zuko became a beloved firelord, Ursa lived her life with her true love, and even Azula left him behind. He never walked free again, and nobody mourned him when he died, except maybe Iroh, who probably only pitied him at best. For someone like him, that's a fate worse than death.

    I truly believe that Ozai was the greatest villain in the show. He had a great design, a fantastic voice, and a compelling backstory, and even though he’s not sympathetic, that’s what makes him so great. Your not supposed to sympathize with Ozai, your supposed to loath him, Ozai is what drive the plot, and makes him the best villain. Sometimes, a villain you can’t sympathize with is still a great villain.

    Ozai serves as what Zuko could have become, had he chose to follow the wrong path and let his inferiority complex and envy consume him: Both are Fire Nation royals who were envious of their more talented siblings and had abusive fathers, constantly craving their approval and trying to surpass their more talented siblings. But Zuko eventually grew out of his envy and rose over his flaws, while Ozai let himself be consumed by his own envy to the point that he didn't care who he had to stomp in order to get what he wanted.
    For all Ozai's complaints about Zuko, he is the one who resembles him the most physically and in backstory: Ozai was the Zuko of his generation, a man with a massive inferiority complex against their more talented and favored sibling, but unlike Zuko, Ozai never grew out of that phase. Aside from Ursa's words and Zuko's "lack of spark(which he didn't lack, he was just a late bloomer.)" Ozai hates Zuko also because he is the one who resembles him the most physically and backstory, thus reminding him of how he was so "weak and disgusting" in his youth.

    • @thesuperframe
      @thesuperframe 4 ปีที่แล้ว +122

      I think Ozai was never meant to be a character in the same way that Zuko or Azula was, the Firelord was a means to an end, a reason for our hero to jump into action. In the episodes leading up to the finale, when Aang decides to kill the firelord or spare him, it isnt necessarily about the firelord and taking his life, its about aang's internal struggle in sacrificing his morality (to kill the firelord) in service of saving the world, Aang has to decide is taking one life necessary to save the world, in other words, the firelord isn't a character here but a vessel to tell us more about Aang and his morality, the choices he has to make, and the greater the conflict, the greater Aang's resolve.

    • @t_bone_4
      @t_bone_4 4 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      Well clearly Azula is the best enemy in the show, but it was meant for Ozai to be mysterious. How one person can have such an affect on the world and Aang, and no one knows what he looks like.

    • @tornadochaser2457
      @tornadochaser2457 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@thesuperframe I think this show is at its core, a "coming of age" story. It deals with serious themes, such as war, loss, responsibility etc., all of which compliment and enhance the show, aiding in making it great. However, it's really about young people finding themselves, while dealing with high stakes. Aang is coping with the huge responsibility of being the Avatar when he's just a playful kid, and Zuko is grappling with making the right choices due to pressures and presumed expectations from his father and the Fire Nation, causing conflicting loyalties. Katara is still coping with assuming big responsibilities, as she's had to after the loss of her mother. On a more finite basis (per an episode), Katara is coping with feelings of vengeance for the man that killed her mother, Sokka is coping with the insecurity and upset had for not being much help to Team Avatar, due to having no bending powers etc.
      The older people in the show have already found themselves - Uncle Iroh is an excellent example of this. He's old and as wise as wise can get. He's sure of himself. Sokka's sword teacher is sure of himself too, as is Aang's original fire-bending teacher, and circling back to the original topic of this conversation, Firelord Ozai is, as is General Zhai for that matter. Azula, the real main villain of the show, is also finding herself like the younger characters, hence her mental breakdown towards the end of the show. Mai and Ty Lee are of course, finding themselves too - It's all clearly there in the terrific episode, "The Beach", and they ultimately side with Zuko.
      Firelord Ozai having character development wouldn't have fit in with the "coming of age" story Avatar is telling as it wouldn't fit with the show's take. Him not having character development is also perfectly logical, considering he is an adult and knows how to get what he wants out of life now.

    From seeing what a horrible father ozai was, it motivates me to be the best dad possible to my kids . Cuz some parents don't take account of how the mental and psychological effect their actions and words has on their kids. Zuko's delusional motive to capture the avatar , and Azula's heartless, perfectionist mentality was all Ozai's fault. And he deserved to be locked up like the bum father he was to not just Zuko, but to Azula as well. Cuz her mental breakdown in the final battle against Zuko and Katara was mostly Ozai's fault, but also Ursa's fault too for showing favoritism to Zuko

    Ozai is an extremely dark villain with no remorse for any of his actions. most villains you can look at and see that they could redeem themselves or are not to far gone. but not with Ozai..... he wanted the throne so bad that he betrayed his brother Iroh just after his son was killed in the battle of ba sing se. then after fire lord Azulon ordered Ozai kill his own son Zuko for his treacherous proposal for the throne he allowed his wife to murder Azulon so that Ozai could assume the throne and Zukos life would be spared. then he burned Zuko in an Agni kai leaving a permanent scar on his face all because he spoke out of turn in a war meeting. then he proposed a plan to destroy the earth kingdom using Sozins comet. then he attempted to murder his own son during the eclipse using lightning. and then he seemed to have no problem trying to murder a child AKA Aang in order to rid the world of the avatar and he could become the supreme ruler of the world. yeah Ozai is a horrible villain and is not redeemable in any way.

It wasn't until after Roku came back that Sozin talked about the invasion as a Fire Lord. Sozin = Fire Lord = his father already died.
      I'm pretty sure all the previous Fire Lords did not raise their heir to be as ruthless as Sozin's generations. My guess is that Sozin burned off all the evidence because he doesn't want the later generation to learn about the Fire Nation's past, he (thinking his army will concurs the whole world) doesn't want any young to know the fire empire (if won) used to be very weak.
      Sozin said his nation is in a place it has never been in term of wealth. He also got the avatar which will make it easy as heck to take over any country (as a lot of them are not civilized). Using that wealth to colonized other kingdoms make his nation even greater in wealth and power

    Ozai's line during the final battle "you're weak, just like the rest of your people. they did not deserve to exist in this world. in my world! prepare to join them... prepare to die!" this line alone tells you so much about his character. he only values power. and he is basically like hitler, he wants to rid the world of all weak genetics and leave behind only the strongest genes. he does not believe the air benders and I assume water benders and earth benders as well do not deserve to exist in this world because they are inferior to his power.

    What a satisfying end to his cruel reign! Being beaten my a child, all his power being stripped away and thrown chained up in a cell. A nice, pathetic end for a man like him. It's so perfect Aang didn't kill him. And this is coming from someone who agrees with killing dangerous tyrants to save the world. If it were me, I would have killed Ozai. I would have wanted Aang to kill Ozai. But I am so glad he didn't. It's so perfect for Aang because he has a duty as the last Airbender to truly keep his culture alive. The previous Airbender Avatar could do it because there were still many Airbenders. But Aang stuck to his moral compass and it did him good in the end. And besides, if he killed Ozai, he would probably die a matyr.
