    What I love about Alec is that even thought all his instruments are middle of the road guitars, basses, drums…. everything sounds wonderful. It’s the player not the instrument….and of course mikes / recording. Way to Go Alex

    I think the one downside of this device is how it handles your vocals. Idk if it’s just me but with some of the other high end preamps you’ve used your vocal just sounds finished on the way in. One thing I love about your demos is how everything sits so well without actually mixing, it really helped me to understand the value of preamps.

    Thank you for the quality content Alec :) I sold my Camden 500 as I found it a bit too perfect and boring, and Mojo wasn’t to my taste. Ended up using it just for the Hi-Z in… In comparison, can the Skulptor be noticeably more exciting and coloured with the 2 ‘shape’ flavours?

    • @alecbrits
      @alecbrits  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s hard to say what would be the right choice, or what would be more exciting to for you. For me personally I tend to lean on microphones and instruments for colour primarily, then the pre I choose highlights that flavour.

  • @samueloluyinkaojomu6548

    If you are faced with this 2 scenerio which would you prefer or go for. Option 1 is tracking with an Apollo twin x using universal audio prepamps and compressors for traking in or Option 2 Using an Audient ID44 mkii with real analog compressors as inserts for tracking. Which would you go for if you are tracking vocals, saxophone, bass and guitar and mixing 100% in the box without UAD plugins

    • @alecbrits
      @alecbrits  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Once I try the ID44, ill let you know. =)

    Thanks for a great video! I am looking for a Preamp, and I want it to work fine for audio book reading and pop vocals. What should you look for in that category of choices?🎉

    • @alecbrits
      @alecbrits  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would reacg out to some other voice over artists and ask them what they think in this department. I would assume a relatively clean mic pre, clean Pre and comp, with a very well treated room would be a pretty solid start.

    Can't help but think that their decision to use their own chassis is less about sonic performance, than it is a way to sell their own hardware. 500 series can already support voltages high enough for very clear audio.

    • @alecbrits
      @alecbrits  ปีที่แล้ว

      I like that we have the option to buy the units themselves, or in the qube format. =)

    • @snoopywalker1881
      @snoopywalker1881 ปีที่แล้ว

      Uh Yeah no….Do you really think that Elysia wants to get into the power supply business when Rupert Neve already makes a solid super powerful chassis. ITs a distraction to Elysia, but they must believe they need some kind of special power needs

    • @ParadNorthProd
      @ParadNorthProd ปีที่แล้ว

      You can buy the Skulpter units as EITHER 500 series for $899 each, or a pair inside of one these Elysia Qubes for for $1949. Same units. So, in effect, the Qube is a 500 series chassis.
      @@snoopywalker1881

    • @roman2374

      This unit exists as a regular 500 series unit. The qube is just an easy way to pick up these units without needing to invest into a lunchbox system if this is your first 500 series component. Also very practical for a compact touring setup.

    Alec, I know this maybe the wrong place to ask but I am about to make a purchase on a mic pre amp and liked your Neve Newton channel video. If I were to buy the Newton do you think I would have been really better off with the Shelford channel? also if you could only pick one mic pre amp which brand and model would you own?

    • @BrianSladek
      @BrianSladek ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have owned many preamps and have all Rupert Neve, Maag, Api, Cranbourne, ect. Mic preamps are overrated, but yes they are important. The EQ and Compressor I prefer no tracking eq and a 1176 or La2a compressor after the preamp, but not required. My 2 cents is get a phenomenal mic first, and a good interface if you don’t already. Lastly if you are recording Room treatment is unflashy, but trumps everything in recording. Between the two you mentioned, I prefer the shelford channel with the input and output transformers, but either is high end and will yield great results

    • @alecbrits
      @alecbrits  ปีที่แล้ว

      I tend agree with you there Brian! =)

    • @braxal6983
      @braxal6983 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrianSladek Right now I am using a RME UFX III the the Lauten Atlantis mic. I do have a old Demeter Tube Mic pre-amp VTMP-2a and thought getting one of these fancy Neve Newtons so I can use it for tracking and use the unit as an insert on certain things. I have the new AS78 from Audioscape which is very much an 1178. Thoughts?

    • @BrianSladek
      @BrianSladek ปีที่แล้ว

      @@braxal6983 Nice! My recommendations is definitely another mic could help, but depends on your focus. RME has great preamps, yet if your after the Rupert Neve sound and don’t have any solid state Neve transformer type pres or outboard gear than a you will enjoy the neuton or shelford since they are different from your current setup. If you record a lot of instruments and some vocals, I wouldn’t get this and focus on individual pieces as you will inevitably prefer different mic/pre/ect chains on different things. If you do mostly vocals or minimal instruments I think you’ll love either strip. I am partial to the shelford. A lot of pro mix engineers mixing in the box are getting tracks that are recorded through an excellent channel strip, but if you don’t know what you are doing you can ruin a recording as it is baked in. Best of luck! We are all on our own audio obsessive journey’s and don’t be afraid to return something if you don’t like it or spend all of your savings either would be my biggest suggestions :)

    • @braxal6983
      @braxal6983 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrianSladek I very much appreciate your input. I just want to have the very best I can get for the money. If you think I would be happy with the Newton I can go that way. The price range is up my alley considering all the other large ticket Items I have already purchased. I will be using it for vocals and acoustic guitars. If you have any other suggestions please let me know. I value your opinion.
