@@gamermilk2989 Agree to some extend, (Jade never looked that good) the problem I have is how boring the females look. With the exception of 2 character, every female looks boring and uninteresting with a lack of diversity. Idk about all that but I remember all tits and asses in the Injustice games. Particularly the second one. If anything I feel like we see less and less gore in video games. I think the ability for higher graphical fidelity is making gore unpalatable for a lot of devs - it was fine when it was just red polygonal gibs. The last game that wasn't cartoony that had serious gore in it was like, fucking Red Dead Redemption 2 - the quality on the human viscera was higher than on the animal carcasses, like when you skin an animal, the skinned carcass is kinda blurry on purpose but you can literally blow someone's fucking face off with a shotgun - up close - sticking it under their chins - and it's in glorious 1080p.

The TM2 Marcus Kane ending and "text ending" of TM1 Bruce (Thumper) will always be my favorite two conclusions to the story. Marcus may have his in animated form, but to imagine that 2005 Los Angeles becomes a place of peace because of one man's wish...that's pretty awesome, even if the "ANTI-CLIMACTIC" ending didn't make it to the game.

I love the way david talks. Hes informal, frank, earnest and REAL. Developers today are so damn fake and rigid, constantly worried about publisher overlords or stock values.

Thanks for making this! I have so many amazing memories of Twisted Metal.
Upstairs out of sight of the adults at a Christmas party, getting to play TM 1 with the older kids.
Endless summer hours playing TM 2 and then 3&4.
Reminiscing in college as I met new friends who had similar memories of TM 2. Getting a chance to see the cutting edge visuals in TM Black.
Discovering TM Head On and rediscovering the series all over again.
And introducing my future fiancee to the series I'd had with me for so long via TM 2012.
I know if there were a TM 2019 I'd probably be happy for some updated mechanics and controls, but for me the old games still hold up so well as trips back to the past. I'm really grateful for this series. =)

    • @calvinball1
      @calvinball1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

And for me, the hatred of 989's TM 3&4 are overblown.
Sure, they weren't up to the revolutionary standard of TM2. But a respectable amount of the soul carried on, and at the time I was hungry for more Twisted Metal. Maybe something more like Head On would have extended the popularity of the series better, but I can't say I didn't put many enjoyable hours into what we had. -\(0.0)/-

    • @calvinball1

the original is still my fave, it has a grimy grungy mid 90s look and style that is completely gone by TM2. I also love the realistic creepy character portraits over the comic book style of the second and third games or the dark style of Black. Sweet Tooth looks the scariest and creepiest in this game more than any other.

My favourite games to watch my dad play when i was a kid.
Dad used to revel in the identity the game earned him in the eyes if my brother and i.
He used to love playing any driving game that left you shoot, or at the very least run away from and crash into cops and other cars.
He played the hell out of Driver as well.
Used to call himself The Wheel Man.
The imagery and crazyness of the series made going for a ride in the car with dad a super fun time.
Couldn’t help but think of the games when we’d jump in his car.
We’d be trying to get to a store before it closed, and dad would pull in right on time and say something like “the wheel man does it again” lol
Sounds cheesy, but if twisted metal was a real tournament, my dad would be a legend.

2 is my favorite but I remember going to Toys R Us and buying both 3 and 4 when they came out and I played the shit out of all of them beating each character to see their ends. 3 and 4 had a lot of secrets and although there are aspects I don't like about them they serve their own purpose and I have tons of nostalgia for them. As much as I'd love to live in alternate reality to see what they could have been with the original creators I don't think I would do it if it meant the one's we got were never made. But if we could go back in time maybe that would be different. I feel like it's a lot easier to come in and say they are shit if you didn't play them as a kid. As an adult stepping in and playing them for the first time, or if you were part of the original team of creators. Then I could see why it deserves bashing. But to me they were great games on their own right and if you were a fan of the series as a kid I'm sure you got just as much of a kick out of playing them as me.

Oh shit was not expecting that custom ending at the end there that was just straight chef's kiss there. And damn that one face Calypso was making gave me chills...
Man I wish I was able to play this series in its hay day, back when I was able to play video games with family on a more regular and frequent basis. Alas I never had a PS1 and was exceptionally terrible at car based games. And by the time I got a PS2 _(albeit for the first Kingdom Hearts)_ my brother and cousins pretty much played Dave Mirra BMX exclusively so getting such titles as TM Black was pointless.
But even as an outside observer I can still appreciate these games beyond just the base level car combat.

in regards to the entire rant from 55:10 on
My only issue with this is the later creation of Twisted Metal (2012) (which i have my own list of complaints about) literally decharacterises the cars into... well, cars (and Talon). It effectively reduces the characters to 3, maybe 4 characters. There isn't those intriguing characters and endings that made the first 2 games fun. Its almost ironic in a way

    • @july1730
      @july1730 5 ปีที่แล้ว

They really goofed on the last twisted metal. Longtime fanboy of the whole series but it wasn't better than black or head on. There is definitely a weird formula with TM storytelling that you can see they tried to copy from Black but didn't succeed. I don't fault them, they had over a decade away from development and maybe the true charm of Twisted Metal, like Spawn, is they are truly 90s creations. The 2001 emergence of Black was a culmination of everything happening at that time. They really should have never did a cinematic driven story and just stuck with powerful and yet simple tales from a good 8 drivers. There is something interesting about how Black's cinematics will hold up in time more than the live action version of 2012. A huge treat with Twisted Metal is the lore and how smart it was.

As a kid, going from Twisted Metal 2 to Twisted Metal 3 was one of the most jarring experiences I had in gaming growing up. They are completely different games and TM3 and TM4 were horrible.

I like 4 (custom cars) better than 2 (cartoon endings) but 1 (the classic) is my favorite. Black was so literally dark (hard to see) and none of the whismy of 1 I loved.

God if these could've gone on Microsofts consoles I think the later titles would've sold SO MUCH BETTER

Was that fucking Mel McMurrin at the end?

Was "arena shooter" not a term back then? I'm almost positive they existed back then. That's what Twisted Metal is, a vehicle based arena shooter.
Edit: The second I saw that fuckin' Dunkey shirt I knew EXACTLY where this was going.

tm 2012 almost seamed like a prequal to black especially with an ending that jaffee released involving the preacher ending up in the asylum made me think story wise for the preacher you'll want to play through 2012 then black

    Love the video.
I'm gonna point out that you ripped on Juggalos once in the video (I am one). I am used to Juggalos getting ripped on, so I take no offense. But I just wanted to point out that at the end of the video, both David Jaffe and yourself describe the reason why people like Twisted Metal ( 55:55 ). This is a perfect description for why I love ICP as well. I just found it ironic, is all. Much clown love.

First off, this kicks all of the other TM lore/content right in the fuckin balls. Thanks for uploading.
8:25 Secondly TM as we know it either wouldn't have happened or would've happened much differently, down to the iconic theme song with Sweettooth's laughter.. BASED ON A FUCKING COIN TOSS!
    Let that sink in.
There's an alternate reality thinking back on their childhood with still an absence of fondness for fighter plane simulators aaand WITHOUT CAR COMBAT.
Off the top of your head, no Google,
What's another car combat series? Exactly.
We lucked out, truly. In every sense
