You never used the codes for the ice missile, shooting backwards, and several other ammo types that use that bar above your ammo. It makes the game significantly easier to beat when you can freeze a guy in place with a well timed freeze missile. Me and my brother would play for HOURS.
I remember making my friends so mad when i would play my favorite, Shadow and use his special move backwards. :D I played this last year and yeah. Couldnt remember all the moves though.
This really takes me back! When I was a kid my best friend and I played this religiously! He died in the early 2000's and this video has brought back a ton of great memories. Thanks for that
I used to play it with my wife until the third disc we bought in a year time period became unplayable and we gave up on discs and switched back to the Sega Genesis and it's more reliable cartridges.
I found a secret in this game. I've never seen anyone else use it, or any record of another player finding it. So here we go: when dark tooth is defeated, prior to the head fight, go invisible (right, down, left, up). For the fight against the head you will be half invisible. For some characters its barely noticeable, some half, some mostly invisible. Anyways, hope someone tries this, it's been 26 years and I've never seen another player do it.
I always thought Axel's ending was incredibly profound for something so brief, dumb, and pulpy. His whole little story arc in 2 to me was always about the subtext that in the end, the true prison was always his own mind. Whatever went on with him and his father, he was more afraid of him than Calypso and his tournament, and had such an incredible effect on him mentally that he doesn't even explicitly wish to be free, he just wants the courage to face him. That, and ripping his arms out of the machine and holding his broken, jagged arm bone to his absolutely fucking flabbergasted dad's throat while yelling "I AM A FREE MAN, AND YOU ARE NO LONGER MY FATHER" is one of the most metal things I've ever seen in my life.
Even as a little kid it always baffled me how he was able to survive in that contraption for so long. There is literally no logic to it, they could’ve at least said he was a cyborg so it would make a LITTLE sense, or a zombie, anything.
@@Bingo_the_Pug It's not meant to be taken too seriously, almost everything about TM2 makes no sense. But Axel should have just wished to be released from the machine.

The ricochet bombs on New York were so awesome. One of my favorite childhood gaming memories was when my childhood best friend came over to hang out for the first time in a few years (we had grown apart a bit after he moved out of town), and we popped TM2 in and played 1v1 on New York with ricochets only. We couldn't stop laughing and had a blast for hours before his dad came and picked him up.

@ 12:44 i burst out laughing at your bowling ball with strike sound effect edit, along with Sally's "ooh lala!" from commando @ 13:44 and the water drop at 13:51. You're an entertaining story teller with dank edits!
8:18 The first time I played the game I loved it, but it was difficult to play looking for all the weapons and I began to notice strange things, if I noticed that the cpu could recover life but it didn't grab the weapons, then I saw how they could infinitely launch any weapon that They would want and then freeze you infinitely, that is, they had a super infinity bar and infinite weapons and then the harshest reality, it was not a tournament of all against all but one of all against me, becoming 9 vs 1 in the Netherlands, after I started using that to match the possibilities infinite super and infinite weapons, after that the game became tremendously entertaining and addictive, I really enjoyed it a lot, I always played on hard after that
My dad wasn't a video game guy, however... my cousin thought he was so great at this game that my dad put in countless hours getting absurdly good playing as Axel. He could crush anyone in a few moments on any level. I wouldn't be shocked to find he was the best player ever at this game... just so he could piss off his teenage nephew! 🤣 It's such a fantastic memory and I still love this game
Wow the most nostalgic thing about it was the cutscenes and the artwork, the grittyness and rawness made me pretty much have nightmares every night after I played it.
Me and my buddy got so good we would finish it without dying. And eventually without dying and no health pickups. Key was always use the shield and take out certain cars when they are alone. I am trying to fix my PS3 just for this reason
I remember the christmas I got this game. It was perfect. Hard and you really had to know the car, the special moves and the maps to win. It was the best Twisted Metal game and NOTHING has come close since. The comic/cartoon intro and endings was also amazing.
The fatal falls just heighten the fun. I really hate that they started making falls just do a little damage and make you respawn back on the battlefield somewhere. It definitely cheapened the experience.
One of my favorite games of all time. I played this game so often we found useful glitches, like the ability to shock people through the walls with the environmental weapon in Tokyo. And we made our own game, using the freeze weapon to play tag. Man that was fun
oh, man. those were 24 minutes i never knew i needed. commentary was on point. pop culture references were legit. nice work. made me feel like i was playing tm2 again without having to go through all the bs.
I highly recommend Rogue Trip: Vacation 2012. The passenger mechanic introduces a new intensity to play, it forces you to be aggressive when you're damaged if you wanna grab the tourist to get paid and heal.
Freaking brought back memories man! Run down to the grocery store and rent this for the weekend with my cousins. Great times! Hope they bring it back someday.
Your commentary and editing is very enjoyable to watch! I'm not a gamer but this was more entertaining on a late night than the other algorithm suggestions! subbed!! (also nostalgic, loved TM back in the day)

If I remember correctly, using the level code brings you back to that level with full lives. Which may be why you remember the windmill level being easier. When I was younger I would lose all my lives on Antarctica and new york, but could always just reload the Holland and get thru no problem

Back in the day, at our epic LAN party sessions either at my friends house with just 6-7 of us most weekends, to the later LANS with 25+ of us all renting out a warehouse once a month, we played the same games pretty much all the time. A Quake / Quake III session, an Unreal Tournament session for the girls that couldn't handle Quake, some Total Annihilation and Starcraft, Battlefield 1942 and COD, Medal of Honour Allied Assault and also some Rollcage, Screamer 2, TOCA etc. THEN one day, I downloaded Twisted Metal 2 from some pirate FTP and played the shit out of it all week. Had a complete blast. At our next LAN, I shared the folder and convinced everyone to download it from the network, and it became a mainstay for us for a year or more. EVERYONE looked forward to that Twisted Metal 2 slot at the LANS. Complete madness and carnage. Truly great concept and fun deathmatch. Part Carmageddon, part Demolition Derby, part ... I don't fucking know but it was awesome.
Legendary. BTW. I did not see you using homing napalm and homing freeze. You can press left right up quickly for homing napalm, or right left up (maybe in the end you should press the maciene gun fire button, i cannot recall). I think you can do special (of that TANK boss from mission with lava and pyramids: up, up, down, up, fallowed by the Shift assigned to Machiene gun fire) just by using your energy (right side of the screen; that green bar + combination of arrows). It took me years to find it out without internet ))) Stay Safe PPL.

One of the best games ever. Mr. Slam was my jam. My friends and I used to co-op this game constantly back in the day. We used to camp in the Eiffel Tower, backs against the corners of that transporter room. Soon as someone entered, my friend would freeze him and I would move in and use the slam attack to throw him out of the tower. Lather, rinse, repeat, occasionally mixing it up with some ricochets or power missiles. Yes, it was absolute cheese. However, we knew just how difficult the rest of the game was, so we considered it a sound tactic just to get us to the next level quicker. Freeze attacks were a must for us - it shocked me to see you play through this whole thing without using it once! Napalm gets a bad rap IMO - we used to use it right next to the AI vehicles to light them on fire, then turbo away to put out the fire on ourselves. Machine guns are also overlooked - yeah, they don't do much damage, but they do erode the health bar with no cost, and every little bit counts in this game. Thanks for showcasing this absolute classic gem!
This is honestly one of the best Twisted Metal videos ever released on TH-cam. You do a perfect job recapturing the experience this game offered to all of us youngins 20 or so years ago. @ 12:44 i burst out laughing at your bowling ball with strike sound effect edit, along with Sally's "ooh lala!" from commando @ 13:44 and the water drop at 13:51. You're an entertaining story teller with dank edits!
Still the best Twisted Metal game of all time. I still play it all the time.
is that a Psygnosis logo you got there? kinda crazy and weird that you'd use such an obscure logo as your avatrar
@@KronStaro I also recognize that bird...from Colony Wars?
GOAT
Do you know that you can play as Sweet Tooth?
@@maximilianpitscheider5034 Yeah, you can play as Dark Tooth and Minion.
8:18 The first time I played the game I loved it, but it was difficult to play looking for all the weapons and I began to notice strange things, if I noticed that the cpu could recover life but it didn't grab the weapons, then I saw how they could infinitely launch any weapon that They would want and then freeze you infinitely, that is, they had a super infinity bar and infinite weapons and then the harshest reality, it was not a tournament of all against all but one of all against me, becoming 9 vs 1 in the Netherlands, after I started using that to match the possibilities infinite super and infinite weapons, after that the game became tremendously entertaining and addictive, I really enjoyed it a lot, I always played on hard after that
I wish they remade this. I’d be all about it
The Twisted Metal series and Vigilante 8. Both need a comeback.
And rogue trip vacation
@@jaulloa21Rogue Trip needs a remake for sure!! Definitely underrated imo so awesome
O
you forgot to do the hidden specials moves like the ice ball and jumping, the ice is critical when you run out if ammo
This is low-key hilarious.
26 years later i still love it, everything about it. it was biggest multiplayer game in my country at the time.
I only finished this in co-op. And only with my little brother. A much harder game in solo. So many fond memories, in my top 5 of all time.
Me and my buddy got so good we would finish it without dying. And eventually without dying and no health pickups.
Key was always use the shield and take out certain cars when they are alone. I am trying to fix my PS3 just for this reason
Did you ever use your magic? Like freeze, napalm, or health restore for item use? Left, right up? Right, left up?
I remember the christmas I got this game. It was perfect. Hard and you really had to know the car, the special moves and the maps to win.
It was the best Twisted Metal game and NOTHING has come close since. The comic/cartoon intro and endings was also amazing.
The closest was Twisted Metal
Black, but all the others are just bad
This was like a beautiful slap in the face from my twisted past. I loved this game. Very big part of my childhood. Thank you for this.
I instantly remembered all of the sounds and music from the game even though I haven't played this since around the year 2000. Nice video. :)
This was my favorite Twisted Metal game. I played Roadkill and Warthog mostly. The games got worse when they added 'realistic' physics. 😭
New York may be a bad level for everyone else, but for Mr. Slam it's the best level in the game.
New York is my favorite level and I'm a Roadkill player.
It can be pretty good for Outlaw too and to a lesser extent twister
The fatal falls just heighten the fun. I really hate that they started making falls just do a little damage and make you respawn back on the battlefield somewhere. It definitely cheapened the experience.
its also amazing when your a kid and u figure out u can hold the button for MR slam's special
Only level me and best friend would play. Specter all day
Hearing Mr Grimm's special was always an oh shit moment lol
One of my favorite games of all time. I played this game so often we found useful glitches, like the ability to shock people through the walls with the environmental weapon in Tokyo. And we made our own game, using the freeze weapon to play tag. Man that was fun
We did tag too!! Man I wanna be a kid again!!
@@yup4477 I always wondered if others also played tag! I love it! How great that you also did that!!!!
oh, man. those were 24 minutes i never knew i needed. commentary was on point. pop culture references were legit. nice work. made me feel like i was playing tm2 again without having to go through all the bs.
I highly recommend Rogue Trip: Vacation 2012. The passenger mechanic introduces a new intensity to play, it forces you to be aggressive when you're damaged if you wanna grab the tourist to get paid and heal.
You want mustard on that?
@@baughjaughes5104 Uh-huh-huh!
@@ClarkKentai here’s spit in your eye
Classic
Rogue trip... we hated at first.... then became a CLASSIC amongst my friends. I loved the levels and music. Streak was fun too.
I would terrorize my brothers turning them to ice cubes and using mr slam special over and over
Freaking brought back memories man! Run down to the grocery store and rent this for the weekend with my cousins. Great times! Hope they bring it back someday.
I need more of this in my algorithm
Played this game when I was 6 years old just recently bought it to enjoy today glad you are revisiting this gem
Your commentary and editing is very enjoyable to watch! I'm not a gamer but this was more entertaining on a late night than the other algorithm suggestions! subbed!! (also nostalgic, loved TM back in the day)
The energy moves really make a huge difference in this game. They are worth learning.
TM 1 & 2 were an absolute mainstay of my childhood. I bought a PS 1 and both games and the nostalgia feels were in full effect. I'm glad to have been around to appreciate these games in their prime.
I still own this game. Absolute classic. And the track audio from L.A. brings back so many memories
No kidding. The Nostalgia is something else
Really enjoyed this video. You're commentary and editing is so entertaining. Probably gonna binge your channel now. Thanks!
the nostalgia and ptsd from this came flooding back for me. lol love it!
I can't quite put my finger on why I love the format/style of your Twisted Metal videos, I just love them!
A game I definitely should of not have played at such a young age but I regret none of it and I enjoyed so much
Vigilante justice also played the hell out of that
If I remember correctly, using the level code brings you back to that level with full lives. Which may be why you remember the windmill level being easier. When I was younger I would lose all my lives on Antarctica and new york, but could always just reload the Holland and get thru no problem
Was insanely fun playing this split screen as a kid
ScreenLOOKER!!!
Thumper for life... pink cadi but man that flame thrower
Twisted metal is a god tier game. The second one is still my overall favorite game
Shoutout to everybody in the comments. More than likely we were kids at the same time. Twisted Metal is one of the greatest games of all time.
“His special is a crock of ass” made me laugh more than I should have
This game got me and my roommate through college. Thumper was my favorite, followed by Grabedigger. That phantom ground missile that could go through walls was sick. Outlaw and Roadkill were azz!
Freeze Burst: Left, Right, Up
Napalm: Right, Left, Up
High Jump: Up, Up, Left
Energy Shield: Up, Up, Right
Rear Attack: Left, Right, Down
Drop Mine: Right, Left, Down
Invisibility Cloak: Right, Down, Left, Up
Minion's Special: Up, Down, Up, Up, R2. You can hold R2 while pressing Up, Down, Up, Up, also. (Takes Full Energy Meter)
Rear Freeze: Left, Right, Up, Left, Right, Down (Weapon inventory must be empty, or you'll just fire the selected weapon backwards.)
Rear Napalm: Right, Left, Up, Left, Right, Down (Weapon inventory must be empty, or you'll just fire the selected weapon backwards.)
Sell Your Soul: Down, Up, Right, Left, Up, Up, Down, Down (Trades your weapons inventory for extra life. You must have enough power to perform this code as it will empty all your weapons. The more weapons you have, the more life you will receive.)
One of my favorite games ever. So many glorious hours spent finding all the secrets and completing all the stories. Thanks for the video
really cool video dude!! This unlocked some core memories, I played the hell out of this as a kid. Total nostalgia trip.
This brought back so many memories of being a kid again. God I miss those days.
This game and Vigilante 8 was all I played.
I have such major life memories as a kid playing this with one of my best friends and absolutely loved it and still do. Couldn't stop thinking of it in school
Omg this brings back memories, the Clown truck you could secretly unlock was always my fav to troll my friends
Arrived in Japan to find a PS1 in my apartment, and this, Wipeout XL and Tekken 3 became my go to stress release for years. So cool to see it again, thank you.
its crazy how i remember these graphics being awesome....lol
Core memories unlocked with this vid, spent countless hours playing with my pops!
loved this game.i still remember the d pad combos to shoot ice.sheild.shoot behind you.drop minds etc.
Twisted metal 2 is my game forever bro
Up down up up is Minion's weapon.
Left right up - is the freeze.
I wasn't 100% sure I had played it until I saw the lava level. That's what triggered my memories. As soon as it popped up on screen I was like, this effin level. Thanks for the trip!
Thank you so much for this, it was such a great journey to nostalgia
This is honestly one of the best Twisted Metal videos ever released on TH-cam. You do a perfect job recapturing the experience this game offered to all of us youngins 20 or so years ago. The only one I can think of that's slightly better is GhenryPerez's multi-part retrospective. Still, you should be very proud.
A fresh TM2 video in my feed? Yes! Sank a million hours into this game. Was happy to see this in my recommended. Fine Axel play, Sir. Shadow main here myself.
