Hi John, another useful video, thank you. I see you are on vacation, enjoy it. Quick question when you have the time, I'm looking at some simple lighting for Ironhorse. Of course we are looking for quick set up and a small/light footprint. I don't fully understand DMX but I was wondering if Multitracker could send MIDI commands in a way to make simple changes to lighting based on what is happening in the tracks. The examples I can find all show commands coming from a DAW.

Must say it's been great and saved so much time "mixing" our backing track stems in rehearsals on the fly and being able to save the edits. We've had a lot of songs to do and just about finished.. Sorry to ramble on; Our Drummer is controlling Multitracker with click etc but there's one thing he's not sure of. Now that we've nearly finished the mixing bit, we need to "even up" the volumes of all the backing tracks in our songlist. Is there an overall "global" volume control for each backing track. We've downloaded all of our backing tracks from Karaoke Versions and have found that volumes do vary from one song track to another. We're hoping we can even things out in Multitracker
Hi Tony! Nice to hear from you again. Volume stabilization is accomplished best using Output Busses. For us, we use 4 output busses out of the 8 available on the audio interface. In Multitracker, Output bus 1 and 2 are for R/L FOH and are set to 0.25 and Output 3 is 0.43 for the bass and Output 4 is 0.81 for Click and Cues. All songs have these Output settings setup in song configuration mode in MT and saved. It is tedious, but worth it. How did I arrive at those levels? By setting the Gain Level on the Mixer. HOW TO SET MIXER GAIN LEVEL Signal flow in a MIXING CONSOLE is like this - Input Jack>Gain>Channel Fader>Main Fader>FOH (simple version of signal flow but is the same across mixers). Since IEMs get the signal pre-channel fader on the MIXING CONSOLE, the Multitracker signal MUST be stabilized at the GAIN of your MIXING CONSOLE (as should all of your instruments and vocals). In other words, the GAIN meter should hit the same level on every channel of the MIXING CONSOLE when that channel is sent its loudest input. Hopefully, you have a mixer with a GAIN meter, then you can see this. I stabilized none of my mixes by listening. All of it is via silent watching of LED meters of the GAIN. I chose -12 as the target GAIN for all channels on my UI24R MIXING CONSOLE. If your MIXING CONSOLE has an integrated audio interface, stabilize levels by watching the MT OUTPUT BUSSES levels and keep them the same. Pick a song with the most tracks and set the OUTPUTs in Multitracker to hit the same -12 GAIN level in the mixer per MT OUTPUT to MIXING CONSOLE Input Jack (that is how I arrived at my 0.25 stereo R/L, 0.43 Bass and 0.81 for click). Once that is done, you can begin to mix your songs within MT. HOW TO SET AUDIO TRACKS Once the chosen song with the most tracks has resolved the OUTPUT settings in MT and GAIN settings on my MIXING CONSOLE, I mix the song in the AUDIO TRACKS section of MT to stay at (or reasonably close to) the same GAIN level (-12 for me) on the MIXING CONSOLE LED. That means, that the summation of all FOH tracks must hit the same -12 GAIN target (or close to it). Click and Bass Tracks should do the same. Again, I hear nothing, it is all done by sight of the GAIN LED meter on the MIXING CONSOLE. Raise and lower faders in MT AUDIO TRACKS section to set a stable GAIN on the MIXING CONSOLE receiving the signals from your iPAD. If you are going direct to an integrated audio interface on the MIXING CONSOLE, then set the OUTPUT BUSSES to strike the same level on the LED in MT in OUTPUT BUSSES section. SET THE MIX TO ALL OTHER SONGS In MT, Hit the COPY MIX button on the chosen song after you have saved that song’s finished mix and output settings. Call up each song and hit PASTE MIX (but you still have to set the OUTPUT BUS levels before saving each song. Those don’t COPY and PASTE).
USEFUL TIP Have a system in song creation. That is, for example, Audio Tracks are set with - First Track is CLICK - Second is CUEs - Third is BASS - Fourth is DRUMS - Fifth is PERCUSSION - Sixth is GUITARS - Seventh and beyond is various instruments and the last track is BACKING VOCALS. Then, when you PASTE MIX it comes out consistent with some minor adjustments needed. FINALLY Once all this is done, you can mix to FOH on your MIXING CONSOLE’s channel faders. Since GAIN is stable, each musician’s IEM can be custom mixed to their liking without any fluctuation in levels per song regardless of how you mix to FOH from your MIXING CONSOLE.
Hi John Have you experienced a problem with program change commands at song load ? It is not every time my program change settings work. Not the first time I load a new song, but if I try to load another song and return to load the intended song it somehow works and the correct patterns are selected on my synths ?
A few tools can investigate this issue, midi wrench will teach midi command history to see if the commands are being sent. Another tool is midimittr which is an internal midi routing system for the iPad to assure communication between devices. I use MT to launch program changes in an external vocal effect. So far, it works. BOME app is another midi routing app to establish consistency in midi communication. I use this, as well. Finally, if you tap on the midi track name (area) it will reveal the midi routing. Be sure that it is pointing to the right port on your device.
@@CaliforniaCreedence I found out that the Yamaha MD-BT01 sometimes not receive the program change first time. When I switch to a powered 4 port USB-hub the problem went away ?? I use MidiMittr for enabling the ports while using Multitracker. Now it works like a charm, but I'm still a little curious why it is so unstable via Bluetooth MIDI. Have you had any problems with yours, John ?
Hi, you certainly can. In SONG CONFIGURATION mode, select the OUT button to send the CLICK track to either the R or L headphone out. If you are using an audio interface, you can use the headphone jack as another isolated 2 channels to send to the mixer. So if you have a simple 2 channel audio interface and a headphone R/L splitter adapter, you have a total of 4 separate outputs to send to your mixer or headphone amp. You can plug the CLICK send into a headphone mixer that can be used by band members.
