This is a special video and a touching story.
While in Timor-Leste, I got connected with a local named Nata. He’s a really cool and friendly guy, who has been kind enough to take me around his country!
Nata and his youth group, Hatutan, recently started a LGBT pride parade in the small country of Timor-Leste, which has been making international headlines. Their movement has provided an opportunity to promote social inclusion for everyone in a country where LGBT people have struggled to gain family/social acceptance.
Their first pride parade was held last year, which attracted 500+ people and was so powerful that it brought in support from the previous Prime Minister. They are already planning their second pride to happen this coming June.
I really admire Nata's approach to make an impact in his country’s society, so I sat him down to question him and learn more about his story.
This is the longest video I've ever made, at nearly 5 minutes, and also the hardest I've spent editing... I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it.
Special thanks to PixelAsia and FilmDeit Productions for the extra footage, and to Nata & his friends who helped make this video happen. Music: Epidemic Sound

I am going to tell you why was Timor under Indonesian occupation.
It all started in Lisbon 1961, when Angola declared war to Portugal, because other colonies have bean getting independent, and Angola wants to be independent, so Salazar the portuguese dictator, started sending troops to Angola, in 1963 Guinea Bissau declared war and in 1964 Mozambique did the same thing. Timor leste did not declare war. The war went to a end in the 25 of april 1974 when portuguese troops, got in Lisbon and kick out the dictator, and Portugal finally went back to a republic.
After 25 of april Portugal wanted their colonies to get independence, Angola, Mozambique, Guinea Bissau, S Tomé Princepe and Cape verde got independence, but East Timor when they got independent, Indonesia sent troops to occupy East Timor.
So for 27 years Timor was under occupation of Indonesia
But until 2002 East Timor got ist’s independence!
And that’s why they speak Portuguese in Timor

@@Gnomelander1400 We in the Philippines tolerate LGBTQ on the streets, we tolerate the weird drag, but a good amount of us find them disgraceful to our own family once a member of the family comes out as LGBTQ. As a country, the Church has a hold on the lowland Philippine educational systems. Given the history of Timor Lorosae and Philippines, I noticed that lowland Philippines seems more deeply Christian, just about as deeply Islamized as the Malays and Coastal Javanese.
We have a rather convoluted way of practicing "Hate the sin, love the sinner," where we separate Church from State, tolerance is viewed as good and even synonymous to acceptance, and we simply stay diplomatic on their face. We eat with them. Everything seems fine, until the LGBTQ start fighting for their rights. Then...

Love Sunnah I am Christian, and I don’t understand your logic. If someone doesn’t agree with you they are sentenced to torment? How does that work? Honestly that is cruel. Also, who are you to decide and know who goes to Hell? You aren’t God. It is very rude. Things in this world change. This change is for the better, for people’s happiness and well being so they can stop living in fear and being killed for how they were born. People are born gay, they do not decide to become it. God wants happiness among his people as long as they aren’t harming anyone and don’t sin without repentance. And these people are not harming anyone. Being gay is not a sin. I just hope one day our world will put aside our differences. That is the only way our world can live peacefully... let’s have straights and gays, blacks and whites, and religion of all kinds coexist together. I’m no hippie, but this is just what I believe. Sexual orientation was not understood in biblical times, and now that humans have advanced, we know more about it.

Wtf bruh, Timor Leste is part of Indonesia from the start,
you can't compare the Dutch colonialism with Indonesia, it's different,
then Timor Leste wants to separate because they were told by the west,
that their territory is rich in natural resources,
promised to be a rich country like singapore,
      but what do they get?
Their natural resources are being squeezed by the western colonies to be divided among their cliques,
Indonesia has stopped interfering in Timor Leste's affairs,
Look who's taking advantage of Timor Leste's natural gas..??
      That's Australia,
and Timor Leste is a good example for regions that want to separate from Indonesia, such as Papua and Aceh.
That they will be the next Timor Leste,
cry helplessly there's no military nor friend to defend themself.

    • @Amanda_Lauren
      @Amanda_Lauren ปีที่แล้ว

      @@adrianwakeisland4710
both regions have natural wealth potential,
when they rebel to escape, it is the western countries that arm them,
dividing territory is the best way to plunder natural wealth,
and you're still a fool to realize that your enemy is a shadow that you are not aware of.
still want to say Indonesia colonized Timor Leste?
please take care of your own problems, Indonesia is hands off,
you still feel colonialism until now without you knowing it,
releasing Timor Leste is a wise choice,
rather than having to spend a lot of money to fight the western countries,
while Indonesia was still in an economic crisis at that time,
but at least we got a good sample for Indonesia's future.
