From a former TMC driver from 2018-2020, aftering retiring USMC, great recap. I jumped ship due to family issues, but I actually miss doing what I did. I'm 47 now and my wife is almost onboard with running with me. We shall see.
Hey, thanks for this video. I know it's 11 months old by the time I'm watching it, but I am currently studying for my CLP and planning on applying to TMC. This was really helpful to me. Thanks!
Great work driver! With all the TMC hate it’s good to see I’m not the only happy employee. I’m going to a dedicated account on Monday couldn’t be any happier.
Incredible video. I’m in CDL school now and applied to TMC yesterday. Was torn between them and a local company that has big national accounts. I dislike no dog but the percentage pay keeps calling me as I can short of be my own boss by caring for their equipment and loads.
Really appreciate the information! I am in CDL school now. I will finish in December. TMC rep came to talk with us last week and I was impressed by what he had to say. BTW, I live in NC as well. Great video. I subscribed!!
Been driving flatbed about the same amount of time. My advice is stick it out for a full year. Adverage your weekly pay then decide if its worth your while. I was in a good spot to get home but because i lived near the Delaware and Baltimore areas, i always got loads for monday that didnt pay well, and had long stretches to deliver on Sunday. So it was a struggle to make what the average TMC guy got. Then i did some research and found out local guys, eapecially tanker local guys, make bank, so for the best interest for my family i had to go local even though i loved doing flatbed.
Thanks for the video. They are advertising up to 100k for new drivers now. Also just curious, why be OTR when you can be local doing fuel hauling or delivery and be home every night?
This was great. I’ve been looking at companies to drive for and TMC is at the top of my list bc of their training. I got my CDL back in late 2018 and never used it. So I want to go to a company that has a good training division. You did a great job on informing without cursing or being negative, also cool you have been there for 2 years. Have you had to chain your tires when driving in the northern states? I’m in FL which I’m glad you addressed in the video, stay safe out there man
Thanks for the compliment. 🧔🏿👍🏿 I've never needed to chain my tires. If the roads were hazardous enough to require that, I would just park the truck somewhere safe and wait for the roads to be cleared. It's not worth the risk for me.
I've been with TMC with 9 weeks of experience. Their training is militant and you can't walk on the grass at any terminal. They beat you upside the head with safety and have a lot of tests. They spend a ton of time and money into training you. Maybe they don't pay the most but you aren't going to be paid much better and with any other company and get this kind of training. TMC even has CDL classes.I for one am not going to use chains because if it the weather is bad enough to use chains you shouldn't be driving in it anyways if you ask me. I hear MacElroy does just as good with training too. The best thing to do is focus on building your skills more than the money for now.

We do drop and hook on preloaded trailers. Sometimes, you'll still have to still place your securement on the preloads. Other than that, you'll swap trailers and equipment with other drivers if you breakdown while loaded and are down for more than a day waiting for the repair. Lastly, you may swap loaded trailers, if you or another driver need to get home and the trade aims both of you in the direction of your homes.

@hunterdan6939 You would not be swapping equipment constantly. Trailer swaps don't happen every day unless you're on a dedicated account that uses preloaded trailers like Home Depot or Lowes accounts.

Yes, if you have a clean driving record, you should have no issues if TMC is hiring in your area. If you're interested in applying, email me at eruditetrucker@gmail.com, and I can give you a referal to the recruiting department.
Awesome video, super informative. May I ask you, how do you manage your time to eat so that it doesn't interfere with delivery and pick up hours? Do their trucks have a fridge?
I'll make a video regarding time management for truck drivers. TMC's trucks do not have refrigerators in them. You must provide your own. Check below for a link to my review of the cooler that I use. th-cam.com/video/bt4co0cME1Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=oKJ99F1fa5CjfE1O Check the link if you want to purchase the cooler that I use in my truck. amzn.to/43CbMp2
Hey man, all the explanation that you have done, is extremely well put, nice job!!! 👌 i just have a important question: is it a company -employee-lease (owned) based?, and how the cost works regarding the payments coming from TMC to your pocket, IF Employee-Owned? How is your responsibility in term of paying the truck, OR NOT, if based in what I've asked above!!?? take care! 👊 i hope i made myself clear! 🙏🙏🙏👍
Those questions would be best answered by one of the recruiters and someone in the truck sales department. I'm a company driver, so I haven't explored that very much. TMC does have owner operators, and you can purchase used trucks from them.
I have been so stuck on getting into trucking for past couple years i have never done anything like it.. but im also hesitant because of all the negative videos i see on trucking.. is it worth it? Iv worked mostly factory jobs but im burnt out
Is it true you get home time every weekend as it’s posted on the website or is it a false advertisement because I wanna go drive for them if this is the case I’m out in Louisiana
That is the truth. You can go home every weekend if you want to. If you're interested in applying for a position with TMC and would like my referral, email me at eruditetrucker@gmail.com BEFORE you apply, and I can help to expidite the process for you.
Make sure you keep those floor mats spit shined, huuuhhh!! Expect hard long labor intensive work next to driving… for free! Freight rates are in the toilet! As mentioned in the video, you have to keep your truck detailed. They don’t pay you for that. Any labor I Gotta do I Gotta be paid for I won’t do it. I run with my dog. I have a small dachshund and he is my buddy. I can’t have him in the truck. I guess I don’t drive for the company. On the note about tarp pay many companies pay one price for tarp in the truck but if you have multiple stops and you gotta keep removing and re-tarping the remaining load you don’t get paid extra for that. I worked for one company that paid $13 every time I move the tarp, but that was back in 2002. You will never know the exact cost to the truck. All companies hide that info and also do not pay you for all miles! Average is 12% less than you drive. Piece work sucks and truck drivers are often cheated one way or another. I work now hourly, with overtime, with bonuses every month. Freight loads and unloads itself, home every night, paid full on vacations, (currently 3 weeks a year) and home every day. Last year gross was $124k. This is the job you shoot for. 10 years OTR and I’m done. Good luck to everyone who is starting out.
Good info bro. the drug testing do they do urine or hair follicle or both? I stopped months ago so I should be clean but I have long hair. I definitely don't plan on using again just wanna know if I should wait another month or 2 so I'll be all the way in the clear
Aim to test in 6 months after your last joint. Remember failed DOT means you will be suspended until you do SAP! You pay your local SAP provider thousands, weekly visits, collect urine samples with chaperone there as you pee and No money! I say try testing at home and be clear before doing at job. I feel for the Men with families who went through this! This is not a joke
If you guys wanna get training big companies are good but if you guys wanna make money go to small companies. Then become an owner op and keep %90-%92 percent
The trucks don't have apu's, just inverters. I run a fan when I get hot. You can idle the truck all that you want, it will just count against your fuel economy score every month.
@@EruditeTrucker thanks for your answer. I’m going to orientation in August in Columbia SC with TMC for 2 weeks and then 4 weeks OTR training with a driver. I hope for the best, everyone says they have great equipment, strange they have no APUs. Because how will I be able to be a safe driver if I can’t sleep at night ? But I guess, I have to struggle and get that experience…
Good, detailed video. I applied to them a year or two ago but was denied. I applied again this week. Turned out my application had the wrong cdl school which caused my rejection. Hopefully I can get my name on a Pete soon
Would they consider Class B cdl driving as experience? I’d be going on 2 years as a bus driver, most of it being a Greyhound driver (so I have experience with interstate driving, e logs, HOS, etc.). I know it’s unlikely, but you never know until you know 😂.
They would likely consider it overall driving experience. Though you would still need to go through their new driver program since you haven't driven a class A vehicle before.
I currently have a class B with no automatic restrictions. If I go through the training at tmc will I keep that or will I have a automatic restriction since they have automatic trucks
@@EruditeTruckerWould you recommend to do as much as possible to keep the truck moving and managing HOS? Do you have any videos about HOS management and how you do it?
@ImDemonWolf @ImDemonWolf I don't currently have any HOS videos. I will create a video for that in the future. I would advise you to keep the truck moving and not stop unnecessarily.
I'm not exactly sure. I've only been w2 status with the company. There are many owner operators at TMC, though and most if them started out as company drivers first so there must be some positives to 1099 that's keeping them with the company.
That's difficult to say. Every driver's pay varies based on multiple factors, such as where you are in the country, the type of freight that you're picking up, the time of year, etc. Three drivers all getting paid at 33% but in different corners of the country could be earning different amounts of money. The annual average pay for a first year driver is about 65 - 70k based on company averages. You could make more or less your first year. As you get more efficient at the job earnings increase.
@EruditeTrucker That would be great! I It takes time for me to embrace new concepts more like a gentle ascent, but once I do, they're etched in stone. What would the pay look like is what I am concerning my self , do you remember that breakdown while out with your trainer?
I'm not sure about that one. 🤔 That would be a discussion to have with one of the operations managers. I've heard of guys being out on the road for 6 months or a year and taking a long time off afterward, though.
Nice video man, I'm being recruited by Halvor Lines and Ralph moyle right now. Both also offer CDL training since I've never driven before. I really am starting to like your company more. Flatbed sounds like a more interesting position than dry van or reffer. My biggest concern is none of the companies are giving any good information on pay. I've been in the Navy years ago so I'm ok with being OTR. I'm used to being away for a bit. I'd like to be making at least 1500 a week for the sacrifice as well as the extra duties of flatbed work. As a first year driver, what realistically will I make each week? I understand it can vary but if you could please give me a good in-between weekly payout I'd appreciate it.
Like you previously stated, the pay can vary drastically based on a multitude of factors. A general range would be $900 - $1800. It really depends on the particular driver and their individual work week. Ten different drivers can all earn different amounts at the end of the week.
Thank you for the reply. I make 1000 a week now. The risk of making just the same isn't worth it to me. Trucking seems to pay not very well after all my research. I watched some content from another guy from your company and he says expect 800-1100 checks. I won't make the sacrifice unless I'm getting 1500-2000. I feel like that's why the shortage exists. I'm close to abandoning the Trucking sector as my research all night has yielded startling information on very poor pay. I can't sacrifice for less money I wouldn't care about my job if my pay was bad. I really don't care about the environment of the companies. The economy has made me a 1 track employee. Pay me well, or it's a no.
Been watching your videos like your content have a question I applied with TMC about a month ago with Dylan Adams been calling and emailing him and no answer from this recurring
That's strange. 🤔 The next thing that I'd try is asking for anyone who works in the recruiting department. They all should be able to give you an update of yes or no on your application.
I'm not sure if TMC has adjusted their rates, but when I was training, it was $1,000 per week for experienced drivers who already had a class A CDL like I did. New drivers get less.
For the drug test do they watch you or do they put you in the bathroom and tell you not to flush. This is gonna sound stupid but I am pee pee shy lol. Don’t do drugs . Just wondering on the experience
@EruditeTrucker Does idling during the summer affect your percentage real bad? I graduate school soon and have a job offer from TMC already. Really like everything I hear about them except the APU and refrigerator situation lol. I also live down south so it's hot most of the year here. (SC) Edit: Thank you for your time and for the video btw, the up to date information is very helpful!
@bryanvalenzuela524 You can try. Generally, you need to do that before you send in your application. If you feel comfortable emailing me your full name, phone number, and email address, I can refer you to the recruiting department.
That company is a joke, nothing but lies. I did my year and bounced, I also now make more money swinging doors without the back breaking tarping and strapping .
If you are interested in working for TMC and would like my referral, please contact me via text or email BEFORE you submit your application.

I have a class A CDL but I work for the city and have 1 year of driving experience Class B CDL driving dump trucks do you think they’ll give me a chance even tho I’m 22 right now
Yes, if you have a clean driving record, you should have no issues if TMC is hiring in your area.

Check the link if you want to purchase the cooler that I use in my truck.

Hey man, all the explanation that you have done, is extremely well put, nice job!!! 👌
i just have a important question: is it a company -employee-lease (owned) based?, and how the cost works regarding the payments coming from TMC to your pocket, IF Employee-Owned? How is your responsibility in term of paying the truck, OR NOT, if based in what I've asked above!!??
take care! 👊
i hope i made myself clear!
Iv worked mostly factory jobs but im burnt out
💯 % worth it based on my personal experience.
@EruditeTrucker appreciate the response, tmc is the only company that has stuck out to me. Keep up the vids!
Is there a video out there about the physical tarping requirements? I'm pretty strong and flexibility isn't an issue, just 115 pounds😂
What type of haul do you do?
Do I have to ride with a trainer if I’m already an experienced flatbed driver?
Yes, for two weeks. Unless you're a TMC re-hire.
I just did a Dot physical in my home state of New York and I have my 2 years DOT card. Will I still need to do tmc dot physical?
Yes, they well have you do another physical on the first day of orientation.
Good info bro. the drug testing do they do urine or hair follicle or both? I stopped months ago so I should be clean but I have long hair. I definitely don't plan on using again just wanna know if I should wait another month or 2 so I'll be all the way in the clear
It was a urine test when I did it.
Does TMC trucks have APU’s or not ? And if not, how do you sleep in the summer ? I heard you are not allowed to idle the truck as well
The trucks don't have apu's, just inverters.
I'm glad that that confusion got sorted out. Good luck with your reapplication.
Hey you a trainer? I start with them next month
I'm not a trainer.
A first year driver is gonna be making about 50 cm. 65000 / 52 weeks is 1250. ON average 2500 miles a week? That's 50 cent per mile.
You think that will be worth it…if I run hard as a rookie ? I’m talking 1-2 months out..
@@monkmode_11 It's worth a try, The longest I ever stayed out was 6 weeks. It's not easy.
@@EruditeTrucker sounds fair, thanks for the info on the video and for getting back to me 🙏🏽
Thank for the in detail video. I am curious to know if it’s a urine test or hair follicle test?
A urine test.
@@EruditeTrucker thank very much for taking the time to response. Be safe on the road!
I currently have a class B with no automatic restrictions. If I go through the training at tmc will I keep that or will I have a automatic restriction since they have automatic trucks
By understanding, it would change to an automatic restriction since you would train and test out in an automatic truck.
@@EruditeTrucker that's what I was worried about. That sucks lol
It's not ideal, I know. 😬
With me being a gamer would I be able to play my ps5 while being a trucker?
Yes, the trucks have tvs installed in them, so you can use your gaming systems.
When you are going through the beginning process is it a hair follicle or urine test?
Urine
@@EruditeTrucker appreciate for the fast reply, still going through the process of getting accepted to the orientation and training
This was my dream company to work for but they kept ignoring me but bestow lucky to u andothers that work for TMC
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it. 🧔🏿👍🏿
Do you utilize the sleeper berth provision 8/2 7/3 both to manage your 14 hour clock? How often?
I utilize the 8/2 provision to run split logs. I do it occasionally.
@@EruditeTrucker Thank you. I’ll be sure to comment hopefully first for it.
@@EruditeTrucker One more question until then: how often you have to do a 34 hour reset personally? Are you able to drive consistently without it?
I didnt go to cdl school but have my class A but only a few months experience. Will they train me ?
I don't see why they wouldn't. As long as your license is clean, no tickets or violations.
@@EruditeTrucker thanks ! You have great videos and I learn alot from them ! Stay safe !
Is it better 1099 or w2 ?great job 👏
I'm not exactly sure. I've only been w2 status with the company. There are many owner operators at TMC, though and most if them started out as company drivers first so there must be some positives to 1099 that's keeping them with the company.
I have a class b license but I’m highly considering getting my class a
Do it. 🧔🏿👍🏿
Salute 🫡
Will it be better to switch over to cpm when rates are low?
Not in my opinion.
What does 33% translate to in dollars? Average pay on loads?
That's difficult to say. Every driver's pay varies based on multiple factors, such as where you are in the country, the type of freight that you're picking up, the time of year, etc. Three drivers all getting paid at 33% but in different corners of the country could be earning different amounts of money.
The annual average pay for a first year driver is about 65 - 70k based on company averages. You could make more or less your first year. As you get more efficient at the job earnings increase.
I will stick by the hour, seems more money earned.
My application already submitted a few day ago.wished to meet you.bro..please advice
As an experienced driver, can you sign up to get the whole 4 week experience out with the trainer?
I don't think that TMC would have a problem with that.
@EruditeTrucker That would be great! I It takes time for me to embrace new concepts more like a gentle ascent, but once I do, they're etched in stone. What would the pay look like is what I am concerning my self , do you remember that breakdown while out with your trainer?
When I started, it was $1,000 per week while on the road with your trainer if you were an experienced driver.
If you stay on the road for 3 weeks can you take 6 days off instead of taking your two days a week
I'm not sure about that one. 🤔
That would be a discussion to have with one of the operations managers.
I'd call the main company number and ask for him by name when you speak to the receptionist.
@@EruditeTrucker ok ! But have left him voicemail and no response
That's strange. 🤔
The next thing that I'd try is asking for anyone who works in the recruiting department. They all should be able to give you an update of yes or no on your application.
@@EruditeTrucker yea! I’m gonna try that are they strrict with job history
@@EruditeTrucker ok! I’ll try in the morning. Been waiting patient 3 weeks no answer so also applied for Sysco food service LOL!
I have locs will they make me cut them and nose piercing
You might need to remove the nose piercing. The locs should be fine as long as they are tied up or back. I've seen tmc drivers with locs.
Are you able to get hired with them right after cdl school?
Yes, it is even easier if you have a referal.
@@EruditeTrucker I live in New York tho
@graceypatrick tmc has accounts in New York state and other parts of the northeast.
@@EruditeTrucker what do you mean bye that
They have customers that they move freight for in those areas.
how much those new drivers get paid wild they are training?
I'm not sure if TMC has adjusted their rates, but when I was training, it was $1,000 per week for experienced drivers who already had a class A CDL like I did. New drivers get less.
@@EruditeTruckerI have my Class A but no experience, will it be 1,000 for me ?
@@monkmode_11No, it won't.
Do you take truck home while working for tmc
Yes, you can park your truck wherever it's legal to do so.
Does TMC do team driving?
I've seen a couple of husband and wife teams. Other than that, not really that I've seen outside of a trainer and trainee.
For the drug test do they watch you or do they put you in the bathroom and tell you not to flush. This is gonna sound stupid but I am pee pee shy lol. Don’t do drugs . Just wondering on the experience
You go to the bathroom alone. They just ask you not to flush.
@@EruditeTrucker bet thanks
What does Parked up mean
Parking up is arriving at your consignee (or within 30 miles of their location) no later than 9pm on Sunday evening.
@EruditeTrucker ok Good to know
Do tmc trucks still not have APU's or refrigerators?
No, only inverters. You have to provide your own refrigerator.
That sucks what you supposed to do idle nice trucks but no driver comforts
@@EruditeTrucker How bad are the summers with no AC either without idling?
@@LongBoi33 Too hot for comfort, especially if you're down south. It would behoove you to have a fan in the truck if you don't want to idle for a/c.
@EruditeTrucker Does idling during the summer affect your percentage real bad? I graduate school soon and have a job offer from TMC already. Really like everything I hear about them except the APU and refrigerator situation lol. I also live down south so it's hot most of the year here. (SC)
Edit: Thank you for your time and for the video btw, the up to date information is very helpful!
Do they have team driving????
I've seen a couple of husband and wife teams. Outside of that, it's just trainer and trainee teams.

Did you get accepted and how long did it take to get accepted?
@@28ghz i wouldnt go to tmc yeah the pay while tranning is nice but they will flunk you out for any and everything..
Do they have regional ?
Yes
What if u got your license but no experience
That shouldn't be a problem. TMC trains people who don't have CDLs at all and hires them once they get their licenses.
do they sleep test all new hires?
No
Hair follicle test Or urine?
Urine
When they did the hernia test, did they grab your balls and tell you to cough?
No
@@EruditeTrucker Then how did they do the hernia test?
They just press on your abdomen as far as I've experienced.
Can you have another person with you, i understand not a pet but people ?
Yes, you can have one other person.
