best video on the subject EVER.. double clutching is something so many drivers just kind of "know how to do" but can't explain to me the specifics of what it is they're actually doing.. so many details in this video that are super helpful: like not depressing the clutch all the way, the sweet spot on the tachometer, how to recover from a missed gear etc.. this video is a real game changer. thank you guys! I've gotten this far with my CDL only because of the amazing community here on TH-cam and helpful creators like these guys that are willing to make such detailed five star content like this.. my road test is on the 6th.. wish me luck guys.. thanks for everything
Been driving OTR for 12 years, with a total of about 26 years driving tractor/trailers. For those of you that are here trying to figure out how to change gears in a big-truck, you are going to hear 374 different ways to change gears. Everybody has their own way. I've never "double clutched". I only use the clutch when starting from a dead stop, but hey, whatever works for you. When I first started, I shifted by watching the rpm's. Every truck has it's own personality, and will shift in it's own way. Now, I just shift by ear and feel. Here are some things to always remember.... Don't lug the transmission!! Keep your rpm's up (between 1200 & 1500 rpm). DO NOT SLAM OR MASH the gears. When you are between gears (going from one to another) don't jerk it into gear. GENTLY pull the gear into place. If it won't go, just rev-up and gently pull into gear. The same is true for down-shifting. Good luck, I know it's a little frustrating trying to learn.
I PASSED MY TEST THANKS TO YOUR VIDEOS!!!!🎉🎉. I had never driven a manual vehicle in my life and learning in the beginning was so difficult for me. When I came across your videos it put EVERYTHING in perspective for me and now I can shift like I've been doing it for years!! Thank you for sharing your teaching skills with the rest of the world because I have definitely benefited from it. God bless you all!!👍🏾
My instructors do a great job at pointing or what you do wrong, but fail to ever even explain the how and why of what I'm even doing. After a long day of getting yelled at for reasons I dont understand, it was really nice and refreshing to see a quality educational video that I can actually learn from and improve from. I now fully understand what I was doing wrong, and why my instructor was so frustrated. If only they took the time to explain it to me like this video instead of just yelling at me for not knowing what I'm doing. Thankyou for the high quality educational tool.
Couple active Navy guys on a remote island, had to learn a 10 speed because it was all we had. looked up your video and we got in the truck. 45 minutes later we were both shifting through gears smoothly.rrally appreciate how in depth the video was.
Big A.L.: that's an excellent comment you posted. Come back and review our video during your training (we did cover a lot of ground). Thanks for watching, pal.
They have not taught any of this in my driving school. I have to test next week and I’m grinding gears like crazy; down shifting. Thanks for this video. Hopefully I have time to practice what I should have learned three weeks ago. Update, I got it figured out. Thank you.
My first ride was horrible. I didn't even make it out of the first 5 gears. I found this video. On my 2nd ride I was literally on the highway in 10th gear going 70mph. It was an incredible feeling. I just need to now find videos on how to slow down and prepare for setting up turns and getting into the turning gear. Big thumbs up.
I learned a lot more from this video in 15 minutes than I learned from my instructor yelling at me today.Your not listening! Your not listing! Some people are just not cut out to be instructors My sincere thanks to the producer of this video.👍
You have a choice. I chose to learn on a manual in school so I will test on a manual. You can choose to learn on an automatic and you will test on an automatic however you will have a restriction on your license that will not allow you to drive a manual. 95% of the carriers now have automatic trucks. Some of the smaller "mom and pop" carriers still have manual transmission. I test on October 29th. Wish me luck!🙄
Yes! This is an endemic response from poor teachers. "LISTENiING" involves several functions in learning, not just ears. Therefore the proper instruction before, during and after a skill is crucial in locating the bodies total ability to "listen" and respond accurately. This takes patience, timing and practice. Often times poor instructors will not have prepared a student in advance of the maneuver and then when the student is panicking during a skill, they become frustrated and blame the student for not listening. ( This is not to say there are not students who don't listen, or are poor students, but I am speaking to those who are trying in earnest to learn and trying to listen but are receiving confusing or incomplete instruction). Then the student internalizes this and probably becomes further frustrated themselves. While there are alot of decent, accomplished people teaching, not everyone is being taught how to instruct. You can be a great trucker and a not so great instructor. (There are some people who are in teaching positions who are not fit to be there as well, but I am not speaking about that at the moment). So, students, learn from these wonderful videos, prepare your minds in advance and practice the shift pattern in a chair as they showed. Get muscle memory and think through the process everyday while in school for a few moments at home and have patience and focus while learning on the road. Some instructors do more harm than good. If you have one of these try to stay calm and remember your skills from these videos. (Try to look like you are listening to your instructor while focusing on what you learned from this video!) If you have a good teacher listen well to them, if you don't, learn from information like these videos as best you can.. Be safe, stay calm, and rewatch these tutorials everyday. To those having bad school experiences who are bright individuals that are trying hard to learn in a poor environment, know that it is real, you are not imagining it, there are many of these places taking advantage of the opportunity to make money. Unfortunately, many of their teachers are also abusive. But you cannot win there so keep your head down, learn any way you can and make it through that horrible experience and get your CDL hopefully. Then try to learn the best you can with a potentially terrible trainer on your first job! Someone should do some investigative journaling on these scam schools. Thanks to cdlcollege for their integrity, clarity and professionalism. They are saving people's lives literally.
I just want to say that I've never shifted a manual trans in my life. I started CDL school this past Monday, and our first day on the pad was yesterday. Within an hour, I was upshifting from 3rd to 6th and downshifting from 6th to 3rd without any grinds or missed shifts, and it's all thanks to this video and my instructor's patience. I'm at a great school with 1:1 student to instructor ratio. Great guys all around, and small class size. Still have another 4 weeks to go, but I'm very pleased. Shifting was my worst fear, even moreso than backing or pre-trip, and this video put my mind at ease on day 1. Thanks!
Very cool that you found a patient instructor! Think about this: if your instructor was impatient, it would manifest itself as EMOTION. Most students are intimidated by the size of these trucks. Intimidation emanates from emotion. So, if the student and instructor are both in an emotional state of mind, the learning process breaks down because it is largely logic-dependent. The fact that your instructor remained calm greatly assisted you in learning what you needed to learn. You're fortunate. There are a lot of instructors who have no patience and end up hindering the learning process because they are, essentially, selfish. They suck. We truly appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment, Jason. If you need help with backing maneuvers, we have a TH-cam playlist you may be interested in: th-cam.com/video/X7iVz2vbogM/w-d-xo.html Good luck with the rest of your training, brother!
He truly is a great instructor. He finds ways to make you laugh to ease the tension and nerves of getting behind the wheel of a semi. He encourages mistakes because, as he puts it, "you can only learn how to fix something if you mess it up". He also said he's not an instructor for the money. He simply enjoys the looks on students' faces when "they finally realize they can drive a truck". Definitely lucked out on this one.
Life Saver!.!. Took a 30 year break in driving to become a cop; 2 speed rear ends were the norm back then. After retirement I went back to driving. Everything is automatic for the first 3 years. Then yesterday they sent me 200 miles to retrieve a tractor, because, “You can drive the old stuff with a clutch.” Hmm, custom knob with no shift pattern and a badly leaking top radiator hose. While facility mechanics got the replacement part, I learned the transmission was an Eaton and probably a 10 speed. After starting to watch a number of terrible amateur videos I found yours! Hallelujah! Made it back through rush hour traffic. Not a pretty sight and the driver’s mirror fell apart at one point (ALWAYS carry Gorilla Tape and flex ties). I did have to pull to the shoulder and start over 3 times, so I’m avidly rewatching the downshift and missed shift segments over and over today.
Having coffee & getting ready for day 10 in a 4 week CDL-A class at my local driving school and I’m glad to have found this video. First time on the road was like a dream, I loved it. Felt like a natural. Second? It was a nitemare of anxious fits and starts. Realized pretty quick I’d need help. 20 years of driving standard takes over when I get jumpy and the clutch goes all the way to the floor & shifts get hyper quick…recipes for disaster in a truck. This video explains shifting & all its nuances better than any other I have found. Better than my textbook and better than every instructor I’ve had except for one. Thank you. Being a 4 week student, this is the instruction I need. All the best!
What a gift for some of us who are moving from the older trucks to these newer ones, or for any student new to the game. I’ve seen nothing better on TH-cam or anywhere else that demonstrates shifting in such a detailed and practrical way. Thanks so much for sharing!
About to start CDL school on Monday 10/19/2020...I've never driven a manual transmission before, so this video is food for thought...thanks and wish me luck, hopefully in the next 30 days I will have mastered the art of shifting and be well on my way to being a professional driver...thanks from Steve in Indianapolis
Same in Indy as well, just watched for the first time in class and had to find it on TH-cam to watch it again...zero experience....fingers crossed by December 29 Im A1.
@@antoinetten.9956 I ended up switching to automatic after a week, because I wasnt really getting enough time to practice on it. It was actually easier to learn than I thought. You should be good if they give you enough time to practice it.
Wow.am paying school to teach me this but it sad that i had to seek help.we need instructions like this in classes . otherwise, they put us behind the wheel without explaing this and expect us to work magic. This video is worth all the school fees i have wasted on the school.
We understand your frustration, simplicity. We hear stories like yours all the time. Maybe we'll open some other locations someday and put these crappy schools out of business. Anyway, glad you watched, and learned from, our video. Stay safe out there.
I am starting a new job with a good company. I told them I have not driven in 3 years and am a little rusty with shifting. I drove an Automatic for 2 years. The company is bringing an automatic for me; I did not ask them to. Now after this video I am wish they didn't. All the things I was missing came together. This video rocks!
This video is VERY well done! As an experienced driver, I'd recommend this video to new drivers!! It's all so easy to me now, but I can still picture myself when this was all new to me. Now I can laugh and smile looking back. Being new to trucking, and believing that you HAVE to be rough with the truck to make it work... and then discovering that it's much easier to shift with 2 fingers that your whole hand choking the hell out of the shifter :-)
This is truly gold. No one comes closer to this. By far the best video on the subject matter. Well done. There should be 25 million views and zero dislikes. Appreciate it.
Thank you. I am an instructor at a Truck Driving School in Ca. All we do is teach students how to pass on 6 speeds which does not help them in the real world. I got frustrated with this and found this video..... I will share with them so they can have a better shot after passing. Thank you.
I'm in school right now, and they are trying to teach us 10 speeds. I hate that soo, much I can not get the timing down right and I'm getting pissed off about, it. 😡
@@esotherwiseotherwise9927 dont get pissed off. Just keep at it. Trust me, you will get it. Once it clicks with you it sticks with you. Keep tying. You can do it.
@@esotherwiseotherwise9927 what is getting pissed about it going to do to help you? If you're getting frustrated at school with an empty trailer, how is your temperament going to be when you're a newbie out on the road with crazies with 40,000lbs on your back. Not trying to chastise you whatsoever just trying to offer some perspective. Now is not the time for negative toddler like emotions of any kind, you need laser like focus & to hone the skills they are trying to teach you. The skills you posses or lack out there on the road could literally be life & death out there. So cowboy the fuck up & hone & embrace the skillset you're going to need to survive life on the road. Practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent. Perfect practice makes perfection.
@@esotherwiseotherwise9927 a week isnt very old when trucking school is three weeks long. I was trying to give you some perspective If your patience is so small that depressing a pedal two times is too difficult for you & you get pissed like a wittle baby. This job is going to be super hard for someone with such limited patience & ability. Your right though a green horn doesn't need anyone's advice & will learn everything the hard way. Good luck numb nuts
I plan on going to trucking school soon and this is BY FAR the best and most informational video I’ve come across. I’ll refer to this video every time I need to learn something leading up to my classes. Thanks for this video
Love this video. I passed my road test recently and watching this video reminds me so much of my instructors. I have a couple coworkers motivated to go for the CDL and I'm definitely sharing this video with them.👏
Today was my first day driving on the street with a trailer and this was very helpful. Very helpful detailed video. This man explains it better than my current instructor haha thank you much appreciate this!
Gerardo! Thank you, brother. I also answer all of the TH-cam comments. Your participation level during the Pre-Trip is awesome. Thank you for that as well. See you next time...
Great video. I'm getting back in the saddle after 7 years and just wanted a tune up/refresher. Learned a few things I forgot/didn't know. Down shifting has always been my weak spot and this really helps understand what up..
I wanted to leave a Thank you comment for you guys as your videos are EXCELLENT. This videos is the one that helped me the most. I got training from a CDL school but I did not find their videos or most of their trainers to be helpful at all. I learned everything from your videos and with just a few hours of road training that were not good at all except with of their trainers, I passed the road test. So thank you again for making such great and helpful videos and please continue your hard work!
Great refresher video if you have not been driving trucks for a while. One suggestion. Maybe you already have it, but if this video specified a 5 minute section on shifting before turning, it would be great. Students need to know how soon to start to plan the slow down before a turn, to avoid the easier neutral slow down over gear slow down and that when a non-stopping turn is made, you should not be any higher than 4th gear when making the turn.
This is a great video/class. I have very limited experience driving trucks, I paid over $1200.00 dollars for 20 hours class, with great joy I found this video/class. Every mistake described here happened to me, I was very nervous, frustrated cause I've driven manual trans all my life but it doesn't apply to trucks. I learned a lot, very grateful for the video/class. The clutch-rev-clutch to downshift and the walls we very helpful, thansk a lot!!
I SECOND " Best video on the subject EVER !!!" Long story short, I just started truck driving school 2 weeks ago. Naturally not knowing a thing about how to shift a semi truck. The school instructor's instructions were " 1500rpm cluth up 1000 clutch down. " I had no issues clutching up it was the clutching down where my issues were at. I would miss the window of opportunity to down shift to a lower gear. After attempting to put the transmission in to gear the instructor would just say reve it up and he would throw into any old gear and ask what gear are you in. Keep in mind I'm behind the wheel the truck is moving forward and I confused as @#$%. My answer was " I don't know why don't you tell me since you threw it into gear " this happened for the first 3 days of behind the wheel training. And one day I was on TH-cam looking for tutorials on shift and what do you know, your video was the first one to come up. I watched it it was well explained and I took what I saw and used it the very next day. Especially the math part of the video. Even though I missed the window off opportunity to down shift I had the math part dowm "1+5=6 ( 6th gear ). So on and so forth, the instructor asked what I did over night to improve my skill. I answered I took a math class and left it at that. I shared this video with all of the students attending that day and urged them to share it with any new student walking into the yard. THANK YOU 😊
This is fantastic! I’m on my third day of school driving the truck and although I’ve been doing well as I learn quickly, the great description and demonstration you provide on video is helping me understand the entire shifting concept all the more fast. Absolutely wonderful! I learn the best when I have thorough information and instruction off the bat and so I’m thankful for this video as I research to get a more in depth understanding of what I have learned so far at school. Thanks so much!
I was a road instructor for Napier truck driving school in Hamilton, OH back in 2001 and this is probably the best video I have watched for shifting. A lot of this is how I use to teach my students. Most students are just so nervous on the first day, I usually concentrated on them driving the truck more. I use to make a little paper up for shifting and marked a little 5 next to all the lower gear numbers. This showed where all the high gears should go for that speed. So high gear 1st slot = 15, 2nd slot = 25, etc... This is the first time I ever saw anyone else use that little trick. I was never shown it and just came up with it when I was a instructor.
I've been driving for 3 years. I want a job driving manual and wanted a refresher... hands down this is the best video on the topic. I wish I seen this video while I was in school.
Great video!, I am a retired Marine and drive school buses (CDL B) on a military installation and just decided I want my CDL A’s again, I drove 48 states plus Canada with Schneider (tanks) and dock P&D for Roadway back in the early 90’s and have forgotten how to double shift, I drive a 6 speed manual Sentra right now so I hope I can pick back up on it again, starting class next week on base for a month
It's been two and a half years since I went to CDL school and haven't touched a 10-speed since then. The other day my first time behind a 10-speed since school. Didn't go very smoothly. Today went awesome! Much appreciated.
I have driven a stick my whole life, and it didn't think it would be as difficult as it was to convert over. After watching this video, I think I'm gonna nail it when I'm in the seat at school today! I'll let ya know how it goes. Great video!
Excellent job man! I drove a truck 12 years ago, and am trying to refresh. You have covered all the essentials and possible problem habits lucidly and succinctly.
Oh my gosh..this definitely helped me. I am at Roadmaster and I advanced two levels on my Shifting class in one day after watching this. The instructor there made it WAY too complicated. That math formula you gave is the absolute god send of shifting. I now get to practice driving in town, which kind of shook me up a little because I didn't know we were going to. He pulled over to go in the store and told me to drive me to drive back to the school. I now must learn how to make those turns through intersections.
CDL College, LLC nah lol I mean he surprised me by telling me to drive back through town. I had only been practicing on this big almost empty highway that they use as a shift pad
Thank you so much for the refresher. I went from driving an manual 10 speed to an automatic 12 speed for 2.5 years. Now I am back onto an 10 speed. Thank you for posting this video. Take care...
Definitely adding this video to my daily watch list until CDL class is over! As a lady (soon to be) trucker, its been difficult to get a rhythm shifting gears and remembering all the pre-trip stuff (in/out of cab). After watching this video, I’ve learned great tips and affirmation.
Thank. You. Saving me anxiety before shoveling over $3000 for a truck driving "school", that probably wouldn't explain shifting this clearly to a newbie like me. Thank you!
Your Explanation and practical is much better and very precise to follow. I can catch up on driving a 10th gear truck just in a Week. Watching your video Papua New Guinea.🇵🇬🇵🇬
Hands down this is the best video on shifting that I seen step by step I needed a refresh on shifting cause I was in a automatic for over a year this video help when I first got my C.D.L. an still today but the only thing I would say it's missing is were I had problems is the down shifting to 6th gear to 1st & when you comings to a stop what gear to be in & if you're at a red light and it suddenly changes on you to green how to react an respond accordingly to shift smoothly and keep you in motion other than that💯 this is to good of a video revise it just a hair...💯
Great video. I saw it out of curiosity about double clutching and it taught me about car shifting more than many car driving videos. The lack of sync in trucks makes me understand more about the benefits of sync in cars and how best to benefit from it. Thanks for such an informative video.
Just came by to say thanks, without this video I wouldn’t have made it through my CDL test- which I passed today! 😁😁😁 Parker Professional Driving School, Raynham, Massachusetts 🚛🔥😁
This is the best video ever to learn double clutch, 10 gears up and Down, very professional instructor, very well explained and detailed, thk you for this video , it will help a lot of people , just like is helping me.
This video was SERIOUSLY helpful. I just got my Class A working for a beer distributor but most of their trucks are auto. I need to learn 10 speeds and this video was INCREDIBLE! THANK YOU! My company has one manual day cab and I’m going to use that thing to learn!
I have heard of double clutching but never understood it. When you said “clutch to neutral, clutch to gear” I understood. The more difficult part will probably be rev matching.
I've just started training and had my first ride this past weekend. WOW! I've been driving a stick shift since I was 10 years old. Now that I'm 58, that clutch to the floor and shift when you're ready mentality is so engrained in my brain, that I found my first ride very frustrating. I know and understand what to do, but my brain, feet, and right hand just keep wanting to revert to a passenger vehicle. Any additional tips you can pass along for helping to break that grip and transitioning into smooth non-synchronized double clutch shifting? Your videos are very helpful and have been a great learning tool.
This show made me best shift 10 speed gear than before, because I interrupted driving manual for 3 years, I was driving automatic, but when I watched this video made me to improve my shift 10 speed! Thank you for your help!
i have a possible driving trial with an interviewer wednesday. im a little rusty on cdl driving lol. this video actually explains double clutching better than my actual instructor in my cdl course did.
Great video. I drove my first 10 speed today and I can see how the video might confuse someone with no first time experience of it. After doing what I did today, THEN watching this, I feel much more prepared for tomorrow. Thank you for a well done video!
@@jackzyskowski3 Was going great (downshifting a little more frustrating!), and then I found out that the company that was going to hire my husband and I disqualified me for employment due to a 'following to close' rear-end accident I had 1 1/2 years ago. It was a shocking call to get on day 2 of trucking school AFTER I quit my job at the PO. Luckily I was able to get a refund on school and was able to save my job and go back. I'm so bummed. I really LOVED driving that truck! I will have to wait a couple more years I guess, then I'll head back to truck school :(
I just wanted to take time and thank you for the video help me understand better how to shift manual transmission even I got my CDL yesterday but I'm still watching the video because I'm still learning, thanks again
I had my first lesson on the street yesterday. Came back here to review this video. It was very helpful in conjunction with the coaching from my instructor. IMO it's a good idea to practice coasting and having to find your gear at various speeds, before your road test, so you're ready for that when it comes up. The thing that was most surprising for me was that it takes a more assertive motion than I was expecting, to get the truck into gear, especially when downshifting.
@@josephc3249 found the problem, rpm gauge helps, 1k then 1500 to downshift, upshift isn't a problem sometimes to slow to clutch to 5th, just have to develop more speed double clutching, looking forward to learning Floating gears after passing my test.
Very good.. I'm in CDL school now and your video really helped me out alot.. thank you for breaking things down step by step and helping me get a better understanding...
Thank you so much for clearing up all of this double clutching for me. I go in this Friday to practice shifting and am much more comfortable with this now!
This is very informative! I received my cdls last year through a school that taught us on a manual and this legit covered everything we’ve learned as far as driving a ten speed ! Once I graduated I needed up working for a company who only had automatics , but my job called me last week saying I would have to drive a manual 😬 mind you I haven’t been in one since I graduated in August of last year. BUTTT honey this video legit helped my memory bring all the information flooding back , I practiced doing the clutching process during all the commercials while watching tv. I informed my employer that I was nervous but for some reason he had total faith in me , I watched this video the night before and the entire way to work … I went in an hour early to practice before we left out and I did it like a pro! I honestly think it’s because of this video helping me remember all of the things I learned in school seriously everything from using the hard wall correctly to staying cool when having shifting problems. This was a fantastic video ❤️
Best video I’ve seen thus far with superior attention to detail. This video even has problem solving tips that most people studying will search for and have difficulty or variations in the answers they’re looking for.
Hey Monday was my first day at the CDL school. I’m so excited. These trucks are very big. Tomorrow I will be in one and start learning to gear and use the clutch. This instructor is a excellent teacher. Lucky for me I have an instructor who is very similar to this gentleman here. Well, I wish you the best of luck. I hope you pass and get this CDL A.
best video on the subject EVER.. double clutching is something so many drivers just kind of "know how to do" but can't explain to me the specifics of what it is they're actually doing.. so many details in this video that are super helpful: like not depressing the clutch all the way, the sweet spot on the tachometer, how to recover from a missed gear etc.. this video is a real game changer. thank you guys! I've gotten this far with my CDL only because of the amazing community here on TH-cam and helpful creators like these guys that are willing to make such detailed five star content like this.. my road test is on the 6th.. wish me luck guys.. thanks for everything
Had to pin your comment, Damien. Thank you for the kind shout out and for finding our videos. Best of luck on your skills test!
Damien Tyler agreed
Damien Tyler how did you do on your test?
Double de-clutching is great on old cars with no or worn out synchromesh. Its a good skill to have
Double clutching is what most states require you to do to pass the cdl exam.
I passed my CDL ROAD TEST TODAY!
Killer! You committed to getting it done and then followed through. You rock, Anderson. Stay safe out there.
Awesome good job!
@Jerry PalmerDont worry, its not impossible... It too me 3 weeks to memorize all that
Congratulations

Great tips, RedSox21. We cover a lot of what you said in our Double Clutching, Hybrid Shifting, Floating video.
Thanks for your comment.

They have not taught any of this in my driving school. I have to test next week and I’m grinding gears like crazy; down shifting.
Thanks for this video. Hopefully I have time to practice what I should have learned three weeks ago.
Update, I got it figured out.
Thank you.
I'm just getting my CDL, but I spent years as a trainer/master trainer. I can spot a good, effective teacher in 2 seconds, and you're it. Nicely done.

Right on, Trey. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Glad you're learning from our video, brother.
Some people are just not cut out to be instructors
My sincere thanks to the producer of this video.👍
Do you have to pass for the driving test with a Manual transmission

If you need help with backing maneuvers, we have a TH-cam playlist you may be interested in: th-cam.com/video/X7iVz2vbogM/w-d-xo.html
Good luck with the rest of your training, brother!
Nice dog, too. If you're going to drive regional or OTR, find a company with a pet policy. You can take your dog with you on the road.
Found a great company to go to after school that allows larger dogs. Appreciate the help!
Jason Clemons Good job. Practice, practice, practice.Companies will not allow new drivers to float gears during test.Keep that in mind. Good luck.
All the best!
what is the issue with shifting the truck like a car manual transmission? will it kill the trucks transmission if double clutching is not used?
By far my favorite video on shifting. I passed my A's today thanks to this video. Took me 3x but I'm a fkin trucka
I started on Monday with no experience either. How comfortable are you with it now?
Same in Indy as well, just watched for the first time in class and had to find it on TH-cam to watch it again...zero experience....fingers crossed by December 29 Im A1.
@@Monteltallen Did u grasp it?

Stay safe out there.
simplicity I agree . The schools expect you to learn everything in a few weeks get your CDL and be an expert.
I really wish my school had not assumed I knew how to shift and sat me down for a lesson like this. This is a HUGE help. Thank you.
CDL Trainer and Examiner here. This video is nearly verbatim to the curriculum I used. Very well done!
Very kind of you, Tummun. Glad to assist with your training.
Driving a Cascadia with my dad right now. We're in Illinois, and my turn to drive is in a few hours. Thanks for the tips.

All we do is teach students how to pass on 6 speeds which does not help them in the real world.
I got frustrated with this and found this video.....
I will share with them so they can have a better shot after passing.

I’m going to this driving school at this moment and mike is a good guy he explains everything right and clear when he explains the pre trip inspection
Hands down the BEST video out on shifting been driving 13/18 speed long time, wish this was around when I was learning. Simple....to the point!!!
This is by far the best and easiest tutorial I have ever watched on shifting gears.
The clearest and most concise instruction for shifting a 10 speed truck that I’ve been able to find anywhere. Great job and THANK YOU!
I passed my inspections and skills test now I have my road test tomorrow hoping for the best 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Good luck! Be confident
How it go
Great refresher video if you have not been driving trucks for a while.
Vani! You sound dedicated to learning this stuff, good on you. That will pay off for you later this year. Keep at it!
Hands down the best video out there on this topic if you can get this into your head anyone will pass their CDL no problem. Excellent Job sir.
I'm taking my Cdl class. I'm Little bit scar but 100% ready to pass that test boy.

Way better than my instructors constant ranting and raving on my first road drive.
I've been driving for 7 days and I still get yelled at lol. My instructor is ass and impatient you can tell he doesn't want to be there
It's been two and a half years since I went to CDL school and haven't touched a 10-speed since then. The other day my first time behind a 10-speed since school. Didn't go very smoothly. Today went awesome! Much appreciated.
I know my in- cab and pre- trip. This video is helping my learn to drive 10 speed Manuel while double clutching
I have driven a stick my whole life, and it didn't think it would be as difficult as it was to convert over. After watching this video, I think I'm gonna nail it when I'm in the seat at school today! I'll let ya know how it goes. Great video!

@@briston64 it went good! I have to not press the service brake so deep when shifting (I do that every now and then) But overall, really good!
FTP! I'm feelin' it. Hey, that was a heckuva compliment you typed. Thank you. Did your instructor really allow you to drive the truck by yourself?
CDL College, LLC nah lol I mean he surprised me by telling me to drive back through town. I had only been practicing on this big almost empty highway that they use as a shift pad
Thanks for the clarification, FTP.
You deserve all the credit for my progression. There is a difference in a great driver and great instructor
This is a godsend. Way way better than all of my instructors in the past
Out of all the videos I've watched on shifting this one has been the most informative.
Thank you so much for the refresher. I went from driving an manual 10 speed to an automatic 12 speed for 2.5 years. Now I am back onto an 10 speed. Thank you for posting this video. Take care...
OMG, a video that explains double clutching in a way that makes sense. HALLELUJAH!

15:18 pure gold regarding how to determine what gear you should be in, I don’t even know what to say.
Definitely adding this video to my daily watch list until CDL class is over! As a lady (soon to be) trucker, its been difficult to get a rhythm shifting gears and remembering all the pre-trip stuff (in/out of cab). After watching this video, I’ve learned great tips and affirmation.
Girl am right with you. This all seem so foreign lol. This video helps
Thank. You. Saving me anxiety before shoveling over $3000 for a truck driving "school", that probably wouldn't explain shifting this clearly to a newbie like me. Thank you!
Your Explanation and practical is much better and very precise to follow.

I have never driven a stick truck. This is very informational and helpful. Helps me understand the concept before I take my test. Thank you!
Great video. I saw it out of curiosity about double clutching and it taught me about car shifting more than many car driving videos. The lack of sync in trucks makes me understand more about the benefits of sync in cars and how best to benefit from it. Thanks for such an informative video.

Having a hard time finding the softwall, nervous probably gripping to tight on the shifter, I'll try to lighten up today and see how it goes.
Same, I'm having a lot of trouble shifting from 6th to 7th
@@josephc3249 found the problem, rpm gauge helps, 1k then 1500 to downshift, upshift isn't a problem sometimes to slow to clutch to 5th, just have to develop more speed double clutching, looking forward to learning Floating gears after passing my test.
