My absolute favorite Broadway show..even to this day. I was fortunate to see it 3 times and meet the main cast members (and, Rex Smith’s sweet dog). Absolutely magical.
.....Yes, We saw it 3x too-----Rex wife came to Stage Door with little dog and waited for him to sign a few autographs and then leave...!!!....( Guess they walked home ).....Douglas Sills signed a Few Programs, too...!!!.....:)🤩
Agreed. I only saw the first iteration once, but I did run into him after the show. He warmed my hands. I was giddy. I was writing my thesis on the Pimpernel at the time, so you better believe it was one unforgettable moment. I've seen the show around 20 times since, and nobody beats Douglas Sills in this role.
Everything, everyone has said. Lucky to have seen 1.0 and most of the iterations through Sill's final performance at the Ahmanson in LA (my home turf), and we met an extraordinarily gracious Sills at the stage door. Yes, SWOON. This VOICE! Amazing video quality, you are amazing. Imagine if a slime existed with today's technology, or if a Hamilton were done of this magic. In our dreams, right?
Fortunate to have seen this musical twice back in the late 90s on Broadway in NY where I grew up. Once with my girlfriend and then again with friends after we broke up. 👍😁
I saw this on broadway in 1998 it is my all time favorite broadway musical and the music still gives me chills!! I still have the cd and never get tired of it. Thanks for uploading!
@@auroraspiderwoman5886 That makes sense! I never heard of a full proshoot, but of course they would have had one for press reals. Are there other clips?
Wow, this video is such amazingly good quality! Thank you so much!! Does anyone know where I could possibly access a video of the full show of The Scarlet Pimpernel? It's my favourite show and I've never seen the whole thing, and would LOVE to.
Is this from a complete pro-shot or just promotional? I only became aware of the Scarlet Pimpernel through the studio album and novels in the last few years, long after the show had already ended (and living in the other side of the world anyway). Watching a complete pro-shot of this first version of the Scarlet Pimpernel musical would be a dream come true, probably my most wanted piece of media ever.

Saw the original run, both versions, 8 times total. Love the chemistry between Sills, Andreas, and Mann. Can't believe that this was 20 years ago.
So Jealous :(

One of the best songs from the show. When we finally learn who the REAL Percival Blakeney is and what he stands for.
My goodness he's perfect like the recording live. Stunning
I love a good.rousing,inspirational marching/military song.Thanks for sharing.💙
This was so incredible live
I got the Soundtrack for Christmas last week! 🤗
The only show I've ever actually seen on Broadway itself but worth it.
I cannot believe someone managed to get a bootleg this good in 1997! Most were potatoes.
This is not a bootleg. This is from a two-camera proshot of excerpts, from which a press reel was assembled.

@@dramaticimpulse Yes, there are a couple of other numbers from the press shoot on this channel.
I heard their going to be doing a One Night Concert event of the Pimpernel; and Douglas Sills better come back to be Sir Percy Blakeney!
Doug is so amazing.

I think this was from the drama desk awards ceremony.
I have been searching for a dvd of the original broadway performance for yearsssssss. I need this!
It's hysterica, you must get a full copy of it and watch!
I think this is a bootleg. I know for certain there wasn't an official full video recording but maybe It's promotional.
Is the full show available?
Only know him from tv show "The Closer"He's sexy as hell on that show.
Ahhhh, poor Doug messing up his lines. Great recovery though!
He did. That horn at the beginning was worse, though.
