Would it be impossible then to get a contract if you have no experience?

hi, It is possible, especially in freelancing but the contract rates will reflect the lack of experience. Larger companies and banks have contracts with higher rates. I.e. a Java developer for $80/USD. Contractors usually need at least 5 years of experience for those.
The other route is to look for contract-to-hire postings. They do exist for new grads though the expectation is that they convert to full time employee after a few months.
