    Hourly rates usually scares clients away in my experience. The breakdown approach works best and they see money for value service. Great video Dennis.

    Amazing words, as a freelancing tutor/mentor, I charge my clients weekly or monthly! I don't know why but this has helped me secure more clients!
    Good content Dennis, keep it up!!

    Very good points ! Most business would have certain budgets allocated for projects, which makes it easier for them to decided whether they can afford to do business with you.
    Providing fixed / multi options pricing model requires you as a developer to have a good understanding of what needs to be done, potential challenges, current market price for the type of job to be done and other factors.
    It would be interesting to hear what factors you take into account when pricing certain jobs. Perhaps an idea for another video :)

    These are some amazing points you brought out, especially the "price-quality-time" triangle. I also urge freelancers to think more about the value they deliver and price accordingly.

    I am not sure if hourly or fixed rates are also a cultural thing, but the tip with the three options broken down to feature cost is genius! Great video as always!

      Honestly I end up making twice my rate sometimes when I charge by the project.

    Why not do the Hybrid Performance method? They client pays hourly for work product and they pay a smaller fixed fee if the work product performs. A good example is the client pays hourly to do the physical work like input the SEO optimizations. But if the SEO actually gets them leads due to proper research/strategy, the client gets billed for success.

    One should quote a professional budget which takes care the personal needs of the developer and his/her family throughout the time of the project plus a reasonable amount as savings!

    Do you actually provide clients with static websites? Would love a video about that specifically. I can imagine it's not suitable for a lot of non-technical clients.
    Love the tips about giving back control to the clients.

    • @DennisIvy
      @DennisIvy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess when I say static websites I mean small mom and pop sites with simple pages. I’m more so referring to my days of building Wordpress websites. Now days I tend to focus more on complex applications tho.

  • @unperrier5998

    Dennis, how do you manage with recurring costs like domain rental when you charge them say $2,000 for a website.
    Do you expect the client to renew the domain themselves? How does it work?
    How about modifications (for example they change address or phone number), do you charge the client for simple changes?

    • @DennisIvy
      @DennisIvy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For this I typically add on a monthly fee. Some clients may want to have complete control over this so I will pass on the domain and all account info when the project is complete. In 95% of my projects I add on a fee as low as $50 a month for domain, server and small updates as you mentioned, and in other cases the monthly fee will be as high as $1,500 to $2,500 a month for things like on going SEO, content marketing, etc. It really depends on what the client wants.
      For the smaller hosting fees, most clients dont want to deal with this. They would rather just pay a few and know that any future updates, hacks and site fixes can be taken care of without them needing to deal with it.

    • @DennisIvy

      That happens a lot. Take note with each request, do your research on the best way to message a client, write a proposals and most importantly make sure you meet all the qualifications of the request.
      I’ve hired a lot of people on codementor.io and the frustrating thing was having to filter out all the unqualified request. Make it easy to understand why you are qualified and how you can help.
