      I'm no expert at all, but I sometimes go to the gym with my brother, but more often do workouts at home because i have dumbells. But I noticed that when you did the rdl's you were kinda squating at the same time. I often watch videos explaining that exercise and people usually say that when you are going down with the dumbells you should push your glutes back and not do a squat, cause when you are pushing the glutes back the legs automaticly bend, so that you extend the muscle that goes from the leg to the glutes. I cant explain it really well, but you should watch some videos of gym influencers doing the exercises you dont know really well, thats what I do. I watch a lot of them but Im gonna suggest the ones that I remember de name: Krissy Cela, Analis Cruz, Caroline Girvan (I do her home workouts), Diana Conforti.

      Hi omg okay so for the RDL’S first bit of advice if you really want them gains, elevate your ankles a little, you can use like a block or a thin weight, just a few inches off the ground and it really helps. Also: keep your knees/legs together, maybe five-seven inches apart, and imagine you’re leaning back to touch your butt against a wall while keeping your weights as close to your legs as possible. Trust me, they burn but they work. 🩷

      To further on the weights to legs thing, imagine leaning forward to pick something up

    You're actually iconic for filming your first time at the gym! 💎 I went for the first time at 23 years old and I just felt so embarrassed wandering around looking for the equipment I wanted, figuring out how to adjust machines, and figuring out the right weights for a new exercise. For real though it's all mindset, someone can be an experienced gym goer and still feel that gymtimidation when they go to a new gym or try new things (which you should to keep the fitness journey fun). Just enjoy the process and you'll see those beginner gains before you know it! ❤

Don’t get caught up in the fad diets and etc.. do what works for you. And it’s trial & error if you don’t have a coach; so try different things out and don’t be afraid to experiment.

    I'm a bit late but I thought I'll comment on your split (the one in the notebook):
    - Overall volume may be high for someone just starting out but since women can usually handle and benefit from more volume than men, you may be good.
    - Your pull day (back and biceps) seems too lat-dominant, missing some upper back work. I'd swap out one of the vertical pulls (pulldown or pullup) for a high row, face pull or even a rear delt fly. Also, I don't see a point in doing the seated row one arm at a time, no need for that, especially with beginners, unless you have a good reason for it.
    - Your push day (chest, triceps, shoulders) seems very tricep-heavy. Whereas chest should be good in your case with just 3 sets, from experience, shoulders can handle a lot of volume. I'd swap one of the tricep exercises for a lateral raise.

  • @kaylathepa
    @kaylathepa 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I think you did awesome! The more you go, the more comfortable you will get and find the exercises you like to do most. The RDLs are more of a hip hinge, less squat, but honestly I think the deadlift is one of the hardest lifts to get right! Just takes time. Even 10 years into lifting, it is still a constant effort to make sure my form is on point! Keep up the great work.

    She's smashing it 🎉
    Deffo don't worry about weight for the time being, just make sure you're comfortable that youre doing the movements safely. Remember to protect your back by tucking you bum under your hips to prevent hyperlordosis (arching of the back).
    But just enjoy yourself and keep doing what youre doing. You will do so well if you keep up this approach but don't be too hard on yourself if you wobble sometimes!! X

  • @emmyedavis
    @emmyedavis 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    You’re doing so well, the hardest part is just starting and showing up for yourself. The best thing about exercise is that everything is scalable!
    It’s a really good idea to start with 0 weight for things like the lunges, get the form right, and then build up from there!
    Oh also!!! You can practice the form at home with a mirror, so your body knows what to do when you get to the gym 🥰

    Hi Kayli! So proud of you for making this huge change! You should be so proud of yourself ❤
    Also I’m not one to correct others form because forms differ with body type, but one thing that is really important and helpful to know early : engage your core! For example on the hamstring machine, keep your back flat to the seat and engage the core to protect your back and put the strain on the right muscles, same with all exercises really 😂

Also, getting a trainer for a couple sessions is super helpful. It's scary (and sometimes expensive) but helpful to have someone focus on your form and broaden your gym abilities. Definitely try it out once you get more comfortable! It gave me more confidence to have a trainer for a month. It also gives you more workout ideas you can use in the future! Keep it up :)

    Preworkout is not regulated by the FDA! It’s not considered food, so there aren’t regulations for what can be in it, if you are looking for an energy boost before exercising I would recommend having a shot of cold brew and something with a little bit of sugar to keep you going

  • @staciebfit_
    @staciebfit_ 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Also RDL’s vs SLDL (straight leg deadlifts) RDL’s you want that bend in your knee which is PERFECT, but imagine you have something on the crease of your hip, and hinge at your hip. And only go up when you feel that stretch in your hamstring and glutes. SLDL mainly target your hamstrings. you want to make sure you only slightly bend your knees & take that weight past your knees to get that stretch in your hamstrings. For a challenge, place a plate under your feet

    Going to the gym is stressful!! I relate. Two pieces of advice I would stress: take your time going in and out of each exercise. rushing isn't going to help you. second thing is really pay attention to your back and core; you don't want to be arching into other exercises and compensating. can cause back problems down the line. also relax your neck!

    I would definitely recommend doing your personal training sessions sooner rather than later! They will help you get your confidence on the machines and will get your form 100% correct so you can learn before you try doing everything on your own! And they’ll also be able to tell you if the workouts you’re doing are a little too advanced and set you up for more success working up to higher level workouts.

    so your going to want to focus on pushing your hips back or your butt, hinging at your hips, you can have a slight bend in your knees that’s okay, keep your back flat and slide the weight down your legs using your glutes don’t use your back as much, id probably go just to your shins or more your knees, you’re not doing any sort of squatting with your knees and quads, it’s more stiff and like a teeter totter, then activate your glutes to hinge back up to standing! you got this your doing amazing!

    PRE-WORKOUT ADVICE: just a tip, it’s probably best to have the pre workout in your system at least 30 min before your workout, that way once you start working out it’s already doing what it needs to. Taking it on your 5 min drive to the gym by the time you’re halfway through your workout the preworkout is only starting to do what it needs to. That could also be why the preworkout stayed in your system for so long.

      I think this pre is different bc you do feel it in 5 minutes lolll it’s very fast

    Hey Kayli! So great to see you getting into the gym 🫶 just a tip with RDL’s you want to keep your legs pretty straight and only slightly bend at the knees when bending forward, this will help target your hamstrings and glutes ❤️

    Hi!:) I've also started going to the gym like this year and thanks to my boyfriend I've learned a lot. For example, I suggest you some mobility exercises and warm up before your actual workout, it definitely helps you better for the pain ( you actually don't feel it at all after the gym session). I was also very scared at first, don't worry for the other people! Everyone has been a beginner!!

  • @BethVonBlack

    No one who's been to the gym twice, needs pre-workout. I've been training for 18 months and coffee still hits beautifully. No one needs pre-workouts, especially stimulant ones and especially not for people who have anxiety issues.

    • @BethVonBlack
      @BethVonBlack 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also, writing down the weight you're using is perhaps one of the most important parts of strength training, for progressive overload!!

    1. do the exercises you enjoy
    2. form > weight
    3. only take pre-workout when you really need a boost
    4. listen to your body
    5. eat your protein!!!

    Hey! Just a little tip that really worked for me, if your really trying to grow your glutes try and do sets at a weight where you can't do more than 6-8 reps and then keeo upping the weight whenever your able to get 10-12 reps at the current weight!

    You go girl!!!! So proud of you! And yes, the gym can be scary, but you made it and you even filmed there and you absolutely crushed it 🔥 your rdls look a bit more like squats form-wise though, but it took me awhile to get those down as well. You got this ❤
    Oh and little disclaimer for that tip: I'm not a professional in any way, I'm just a gym girlie myself and that's what caught my eye. So please don't take my advice (or any other stranger on the Internet's) over the advice from a trained professional lol 🫶🏻

    A deficit DB lunge would be hard for a beginner. Same as Bulgarian split squats if you have those in your split. The deficit part is also a progression so I would recommend body weight only and both feet flat on the ground to start

    Kayli: 1,5 hours at the gym is too long, it’s probably because I did everything for the first time
    Me, a gym rat: 3 hours at the gym and I feel like it’s not enough 😂😂
    By the way a small tip: try stretching right before and after you workout, that’ll help your muscles recover and it’ll hurt a lot less afterwards ❤️

    when people say nobody cares they FRRRR don't cause there was one time I failed my bench in a CROWDED gym and nobody noticed me for a good 15 SECONDS until I called for help so yup! gg to the gym is def super scary but once you get more used to it it's so worth it :-)

    It's so scary at first but the first time is the hardest! It'll only get easier from here. 6 days a week sounds intense, I would consider starting with 3-4 and working your way up if you want so you don't get burned out! Also be sure you're getting enough protein to build muscle. Either way so proud of you for being brave. This is real life and it's important to see!

    hii i definitley recommend doing a quick mobility warmup before u start your workout (+i usually go on a treadmill for 5 minutes before that) and to stretch after your workout :)

  • @ana891

    don't push yourself too hard. in the beginning keep doing 3x10 for about two weeks so your body is able to get used to it and focus ONLY on learning the correct forms. after that you're doing 3x12 for 2 weeks, then if you're able to do 1x15, THEN you can add more weights (btw more than 3 sets should not be your goal for now). once you add more weights, do 3x8 for a week or two and repeat the process. hope this helps!

    Congrats!! Getting in the gym is definitely the hardest part and you did great! My tip would be to consider compound vs isolation exercises. You probably want to do your harder compound lifts that require more muscle groups (hip thrust, RDLs, squats, lunges) first then go into isolation movements (hamstring curls, calf raises, abductors) towards the end. I also think lunges are 1,000% easier on a smith machine because you can use the bar to brace yourself! Great video 😊

    at the rdls (last exercise) try to not bend your knees and just push the hips back (for femural muscle) and if you want to target the glutes, after you push the hips back, bend the knees just like an inch and go back to normal, and to not exclude that you need to keep the dumbbells sticked to the legs, and also try to look just down to have a neutral spine

    For the RDL, think of it more as a hinging motion from your hips rather than a modified squat! Imagine trying to close a door with your butt. Keep your dumbbells or barbell close to your legs, and pretend like you’re holding a pencil between your armpits. When you’re going down, stop when you feel a stretch, then come back up. Hope that helps!
