What I really appreciate about Stallone is that until the last round where he defeats Ivan, the latter was shown either as a superior, stronger or more dangerous fighter than Rocky. That’s why this movie is a classic. This is what female centric superheroes don’t understand. Both Captain Marvel, Wonder Woman and even Rey Skywalker need a villain who is more dangerous than them until the last 15 minutes of the movie/trilogy where they defeat the villain eventually with one foot in the doorstep of death. But these women keep defeating villains so easily, there is no proper impact about their heroism in the minds of the audience.

And you talking about villains being stronger than main lead then what about successful characters like John wick, Jason Bourne, etc. They being overpowered is fine but not captain marvel. But I find the modern day woman heroes to be way more overwhelming to the villains. Like Roger Moore’s James Bond, you know that nothing will happen to Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel because they’re literal gods. As a result the audience cannot really feel thrilled with their onscreen heroic exploits.
